1. Semantic Web Enabled Geographic Question Answering Framework: GeoTR

Abstract

With the considerable growth of linked data, researchers have focused on how to increase the availability of semantic web technologies to provide practical usages for real life systems. Question answering systems are an example of real-life systems that communicate directly with end users, understand user intention and generate answers. End users do not care about the structural query language or the vocabulary of the knowledge base where the point of a problem arises. In this study, a question answering framework that converts Turkish natural language input into SPARQL queries in the geographical domain is proposed. Additionally, a novel Turkish ontology, which covers a 10th grade geography lesson named Spatial Synthesis Turkey, has been developed to be used as a linked data provider. Moreover, a gap in the literature on Turkish question answering systems, which utilizes linked data in the geographical domain, is addressed. A hybrid system architecture that combines natural language processing techniques with linked data technologies to generate answers is also proposed. 13. Natural language based analysis of SQuAD: An analytical approach for BERT

Abstract

In recent years, deep learning models have been used in the implementation of question answering systems. In this study, the performance of the question answering system was evaluated from the perspective of natural language processing using SQuAD, which was developed to measure the performance of deep learning language models. In line with the evaluations, in order to increase the performance, 3 natural language based methods, namely RNP, that can be used with pre-trained BERT language models have been proposed and they have increased the performance of the question answering system in which the pre-trained BERT models are used by 1.1% to 2.4%. As a result of the application of RNP methods with sentence selection, an increase in accuracy between 6.6% and 8.76% was achieved in answer detection. Since these methods don't require any training process, it has been shown that they can be used in question answering systems to increase the performance of any deep learning model.

Abstract

Today’s technological improvements have made ubiquitous healthcare systems that converge into smart healthcare applications in order to solve patients’ problems, to communicate effectively with patients, and to improve healthcare service quality. The first step of building a smart healthcare information system is representing the healthcare data as connected, reachable, and sharable. In order to achieve this representation, ontologies are used to describe the healthcare data. Combining ontological healthcare data with the used and obtained data can be maintained by storing the entire health domain data inside big data stores that support both relational and graph-based ontological data. There are several big data stores and different types of big data sets in the healthcare domain. The goal of this paper is to determine the most applicable ontology data store for storing the big healthcare data. For this purpose, AllegroGraph and Oracle 12c data stores are compared based on their infrastructural capacity, loading time, and query response times. Hence, healthcare ontologies (GENE Ontology, Gene Expression Ontology (GEXO), Regulation of Transcription Ontology (RETO), Regulation of Gene Expression Ontology (REXO)) are used to measure the ontology loading time. Thereafter, various queries are constructed and executed for GENE ontology in order to measure the capacity and query response times for the performance comparison between AllegroGraph and Oracle 12c triple stores.

Abstract

Background: One of the state-of-the-art techniques for question answering frameworks is using linked data by converting the user input into SPARQL which is the query language for linked data. Objective: The main target is to emphasize the most fundamental issues while developing a question answering frameworks that accept input in natural language and converting it into SPARQL. Methods: The trend of applying linked data as a data source is gaining popularity among the re-searchers. In this study, question answering frameworks that combine both natural language processing techniques and linked data technologies are examined. Common principles of examined question answering frameworks recognize user intention, enriching natural language input and converting it to a SPARQL query. Results: 9 studies are selected for further examination to be compared by using selection criteria de-fined in the research methodology. Conclusion: Resulting outcomes are represented and compared in detail. In addition to the comparative review of systems, a general architecture of question answering frameworks on the linked data is drawn as an outcome of this study to provide a guideline for the researchers who are studying related research fields. © 2021 Bentham Science Publishers.

Abstract

8th International Conference on Information Systems Security and Privacy (ICISSP) -- FEB 09-11, 2022 -- ELECTR NETWORK, Ontology Based Data Access (OBDA) is a semantic paradigm to perform a mapping between an ontology and a data source for querying heterogeneous data sources. The result of this mapping ensures data access and data integration. Therefore, OBDA allows to query various datasets and provides data virtualization by integrating multiple and varied data sources. Ontology Based Access Control (OBAC) enables the realization of an access control mechanism by using Semantic Web technologies. OBAC allows to model the access control knowledge and uses domain knowledge to create policy ontologies. This paper revisits the OBAC approach by considering the OBDA to query legacy data that are stored in different types of data sources. For this purpose, OBAC is examined within the scope of OBDA and a conceptual model is proposed to extend OBAC with OBDA to provide data virtualization and to consolidate users' access privileges. 14th Turkish National Software Engineering Symposium, UYMS 2020 -- 7 October 2020 through 9 October 2020 -- -- 164914, In the internet advertising industry, web and mobile applications that display ads need to choose high-paying ads to increase their revenue. Ad mediators create various decision mechanisms to select ads that will generate higher revenues in order to increase the revenue of advertising applications. One type of these decision mechanisms is to select and deliver the ad with the highest eCPM (Effective Cost Per Mille) value from ads that can be placed in an ad slot. The eCPM value varies depending on different external factors for different applications. It is not possible for domain experts to make successful predictions by analyzing different sets of external factors for many applications and to keep these predictions constantly updated. Therefore, eCPM values were automatically predicted separately for each application on different ad slots and different countries using time series analysis and machine learning algorithms. SARIMA, MLP, CNN and LSTM algorithms are used to make predictions. The LSTM algorithm has generally yielded better results in eCPM estimation. As a result of the trials conducted with a limited number of users of the two applications on production environment, an increase in daily income per user was observed. © 2020 IEEE.

26. Testing an Internet-Based Turkish Obesity Behavioral Therapy Program: A Randomized Study

Abstract

Objective: Behavioral treatment is recommended as the first line intervention for the prevention of health problems pertaining to obesity. Internet-based programs are used to provide cognitive behavioral therapy for psychiatric disorders and systemic diseases to a large number of patients at low cost. The aim of this study is to develop the first internet based Turkish obesity behavioral therapy program and test its short-term effectiveness. Method: A Turkish web-based behavioral therapy program based on the behavioral strategies employed in the Diabetes Prevention Program was generated. In order to test the effectiveness of this internet-based program an eight week randomized study was conducted. A total of 101 overweight participants with body mass index in the 25-40 range were randomly assigned to an eight-week weight loss program using either the Internet Behavior Therapy (IBT, n=51) or e-mail education (EE, n=50). The participants in the IBT group were provided access to an Internet program that provided videos teaching behavioral weight-loss skills as well as a self-monitoring platform to calculate the daily calorie balance. The participants in the EE group received weekly e-mails with information on healthy eating, physical exercises and weight loss for eight weeks. The primary outcome measure was the observed weight change at the end of the 8 weeks. Results: In the analyses wherein baseline weight was carried forward for missing data, the IBT produced significantly larger mean weight loss in comparison to the EE at the end of the 8 weeks [2.28 kg (2.11) vs. 0.74 kg (1.57), p=0.001]. The participants in the IBT group, when compared to the EE group, were also more likely to achieve a clinically significant weight loss of 5% of their initial body weight at the end of the 8-week study period (17.6% vs. 2%, p=0.016). Abstract

Levosimendan and dobutamine are comparable inotropic drugs as regards their hemodynamic effects and clinical outcomes in decompensated heart failure (HF). The aim of this study was to compare the effects of levosimendan and dobutamine treatment on NT-proBNP levels in patients with decompensated HF. Forty-four patients with decompensated HF and ejection fraction n =26) or dobutamine ( n =18). NT-proBNP was measured at baseline and 12 h, 24 h and 48 h after the initiation of drug infusion. NT-proBNP levels at baseline, 12 h, 24 h and 48 h were 16,879±2437, 16,004±2635, 12,881±2305 and 11,078±2092 pg/ml, respectively, in the levosimendan group and 16,031±3463, 15,908±3806, 12,271±3299 and 14,840±4009 pg/ml, respectively, in the dobutamine group. Abstract

Cigarette smoking adversely affects endothelial function and increases risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). The pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis is currently thought to involve interactions between inflammatory cells and vascular endothelium. Adhesion molecules play a pivotal role in the accumulation of inflammatory cells at the endothelium. Little is known about the role of cigarette smoking in this atherosclerotic inflammatory process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of cigarette smoking on the plasma concentrations of soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in patients with CAD. The soluble VCAM-1 level was quantified in smoking CAD patients (n=19) in comparison to those from patients with CAD alone (n=10). Plasma concentrations of soluble VCAM-1 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The soluble VCAM-1 level was found significantly higher in smokers than in nonsmokers (32.1279 ±21.6421 vs 9.4570 ±7.8138 ng/mL, p0.05). No significant difference was observed for soluble VCAM-1 levels between hypertensive and nonhypertensive patients, multivessel and one-vessel disease, or anterior and inferior MI localizations. The present study suggests that in patients with CAD, smoking leads to elevated levels of soluble VCAM-1 that may clarify one of the mechanisms of its accelerating effect on the atherosclerotic process.

Abstract

Background: Although internal cardioversion (IC) for atrial fibrillation (AF) is effective at restoring sinus rhythm, immediate recurrence (IR) of AF after IC is a major and largely unpredictable clinical problem. The purpose of the study was to determine the role of P wave duration and amplitude in prediction of IR of AF after IC. Forty-five consecutive patients undergoing IC for chronic AF were evaluated. Material and Methods: After successful IC, 1-minute ECG recording was obtained in all patients. P wave duration and amplitude in Lead II and V1 were measured using computer. Forty patients (88%) had successful IC. Thirteen patients experienced IR of AF within 1 minute of restoring sinus rhythm. Results and Conclusion: As a result, the incidence of IR of AF after IC was higher in the patients with shorter P wave amplitude (for lead II P < 0.01, for V1P < 0.01) and larger P wave duration (for lead II P < 0.01, for V1P < 0.05).

Abstract

Aim We thought, that analysis of surface electrocardiograms recorded immediately after electrical external cardioversion (EC) might enlighten the mechanisms responsible for immediate recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and especially to test whether atrial ectopic beats (PAC) with long-short (LS) sequence are related to the recurrence of arrhythmia after cardioversion in patients with chronic AF. Methods and results One hundred and thirty-seven patients (mean age 577 years) undergoing EC for chronic AF entered the study. Evaluation of the patients included clinical history, physical examination, ECG, routine laboratory tests, and transthoracic echocardiography. The cardioversion was performed with monophasic waveform shock and immediately after successful EC, 1 min of recording of the ECG lead II was analysed. One hundred and twenty patients (87%) of 137 patients enrolled in the study had had successful EC and 33 (27%) of them experienced immediate recurrence of AF within 1 min (Group I) and 87 patients had no arrhythmia recurrence (Group II). In group I in 24 patients (73%) recurrence of AF was initiated by PAC with LS sequence. In only 12 of 87 (13%) patients who did not experience immediate recurrence of AF (Group II) PACs were recorded. Conclusions Atrial ectopic beats (PACs) with LS sequence, being responsible for AF relapse in about 70% of patients, might predict early re-initiation of arrhythmia after EC. Electrocardiograms, recorded immediately after EC, are a potentially feasible approach in establishing the patterns of AF relapse that may be useful in the management of AF recurrence.

disease. A recent report from the Coronary Artery Risk in Young Adults (CARDIA) population indicated that 18% of young black men aged 18 to 30 years had detectable calcium. Among our study participants (all black adults) who were aged 30 years with no history of cocaine use, 36.4% had detectable coronary calcium. Thus, the proportion of young black adults having detectable coronary calcium is much higher in our study than in the CARDIA report. This suggests that some other unmeasured factors merit investigation.

Abstract

Behcet’s disease (BD) is a relapsing chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology. BD was initially characterized by a triad of recurrent oral aphtous ulcerations, genital ulcerations and uveitis, but it is now more commonly recognized to be a multi-system disease concomitant with vasculitis as its main pathological finding [1]. Although vascularmanifestations, particularly venous thrombosis, arteritis, and aneurysm formations, are not uncommon, a direct cardiac involvement is to be determined only rarely. We herein describe a patient with BD who developed recurrent operated intracardiac thrombi associated with inferior vena cava thrombosis, pulmonary arterial thrombosis, renal vein thrombosis and Budd–Chiari syndrome.

Abstract

Occlusion of the superior vena cava is a rare but serious complication of transvenous endocardial pacing. We describe an unusual approach for permanent pacemaker implantation using the azygous vein in a patient with occlusion of the bilateral total subclavian and innominate veins after previous bilateral pectoral pacemaker implantation. Endocardial pacing using the azygous vein with minimal invasive thoracotomy may be a good option for patients with inaccessible subclavian route.

Abstract

A 52-year-old woman was admitted with the complaint of dyspnea that was present at rest and lasted a few hours. On bedside echocardiography, multiple small thrombus formations were detected in the right atrium under the tricuspid valve. Similar thrombus formation was detected in the left atrium. The lung perfusion scintigraphy indicated pulmonary embolism. Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator was started via intravenous infusion; after a dose of 60 mg, speech disturbance was observed, so thrombolytic therapy was terminated. The patient's speech problem subsided spontaneously. The dyspnea improved dramatically. Repeated bedside echocardiographic examination revealed the thrombi in both atria had disappeared.
