Circumstellar material (CSM) produced by mass loss from massive stars ($\gtrsim10 M_{\odot}$) through strong stellar winds or binary stripping provides rich information for understanding progenitors of core-collapse supernova remnants. In this paper we present a grating spectroscopy of a Galactic SNR G292.0+1.8, which is claimed to be a Type Ib/c remnant in a binary system according to recent studies. If G292.0+1.8 was experienced a strong mass-loss via binary interactions before its explosion, an oxygen-rich material produced in the He-burning layer is expected to be observed in the central belt-like structure formed by shock-heated CSM. Using the Reflection Grating Spectrometer onboard XMM-Newton, we detect N VII Ly$\alpha$ line (0.50 keV) for the first time in G292.0+1.8 and find that the abundance ratio of nitrogen to oxygen is significantly lower (N/O$=0.5\pm0.1$) than the solar value. This low N/O suggests that the progenitor of experienced strong mass-loss and ended up to a Wolf-Rayet (WR) star exposing the He-burning layer at the pre-supernova. Comparing our result and the evolution models of single stars and binaries, we conclude that the progenitor of G292.0+1.8 experienced strong mass-loss enough to occur a Type Ib/c supernova. The performance of mini-batch stochastic gradient descent (SGD) strongly depends on setting the batch size and learning rate to minimize the empirical loss in training the deep neural network. In this paper, we present theoretical analyses of mini-batch SGD with four schedulers: (i) constant batch size and decaying learning rate scheduler, (ii) increasing batch size and decaying learning rate scheduler, (iii) increasing batch size and increasing learning rate scheduler, and (iv) increasing batch size and warm-up decaying learning rate scheduler. We show that mini-batch SGD using scheduler (i) does not always minimize the expectation of the full gradient norm of the empirical loss, whereas it does using any of schedulers (ii), (iii), and (iv). Furthermore, schedulers (iii) and (iv) accelerate mini-batch SGD. The paper also provides numerical results of supporting analyses showing that using scheduler (iii) or (iv) minimizes the full gradient norm of the empirical loss faster than using scheduler (i) or (ii)., Comment: 28 pages, 15 figures

In recent years, the formation and evolution of rapidly accreting supermassive stars has received significant attention in the hope of better understanding the origin of high redshift quasars. It is often taken for granted that once formed, these supermassive stars will encounter the general relativistic radial instability and collapse to form massive black holes. Here, we present the first ever general relativistic hydrodynamical simulations of the collapse of rapidly accreting supermassive stars. We find that black hole formation is in many cases prevented by nuclear burning due to the long timescales of the collapse of these stars ($10^6$ s). Consequently, this is a novel astrophysical site for hot CNO burning and hydrogen burning via proton captures. For Pop III accreting supermassive stars, we find that only stars with very high (100 $\rm{M_\odot}/$yr) or low (0.1 $\rm{M_\odot}/$yr) accretion rates can form black holes, with models in between undergoing energetic thermonuclear pulsations. The final fate of these pulsating models may be to undergo subsequent pulsations or explosions or to collapse to black holes. For metal rich accreting supermassive stars ($Z\geq 0.1 \rm{Z_\odot}$), we do not find any black hole formation, with some models undergoing extremely energetic explosions ($10^{55}$ ergs). Amplitude-modulation (tapping-mode) atomic force microscopy (AM-AFM) is a technique for obtaining surface topographic images at the atomic or molecular-scale by detecting changes in the cantilever oscillation amplitude. Since it can operate in air or liquid conditions, it has contributed to various material research fields. However, it remains unclear why the tip-sample interaction force estimated from an experimental amplitude value is substantially greater than the actual molecular binding force, despite the successful visualization of molecular dynamics. Here, we performed a theoretical analysis to tackle this question. We show that in general AM-AFM measurements, the cantilever is excited at the resonance slope whereas the conventional equation is only valid for excitation exactly at the resonance frequency. We then derive a force conversion equation for an arbitrary excitation frequency and found that the conventional equation overestimates the actual force by about five times. The theory derived here can be used for diverse AM-AFM applications, and is useful in many fields of material research.

The International Maritime Organization developed the Second Generation Intact Stability Criteria (SGISC) with the objective of mitigating maritime incidents attributable to roll motion. Given that surf-riding precedes broaching, the SGISC uses vulnerability criteria for broaching based on surf-riding dynamics. The surf-riding threshold is derived by Melnikov's method in the level-2 vulnerability criterion. We present the number densities and physical properties of the bright galaxies spectroscopically confirmed at $z\sim7-14$. Our sample is composed of 53 galaxies at $z_\mathrm{spec}\sim7-14$, including recently-confirmed galaxies at $z_\mathrm{spec}=12.34-14.32$ with JWST, as well as new confirmations at $z_\mathrm{spec}=6.583-7.643$ with $-24< M_\mathrm{UV}< -21$ mag using ALMA and Keck. Our JWST/NIRSpec observations have also revealed that very bright galaxy candidates at $z\sim10-13$ identified from ground-based telescope images before JWST are passive galaxies at $z\sim3-4$, emphasizing the necessity of strict screening and spectroscopy in the selection of the brightest galaxies at $z>10$. The UV luminosity functions derived from these spectroscopic results are consistent with a double power-law function, showing tensions with theoretical models at the bright end. To understand the origin of the overabundance of bright galaxies, we investigate their morphologies using JWST/NIRCam high-resolution images obtained in various surveys including PRIMER and COSMOS-Web. We find that $\sim70\%$ of the bright galaxies at $z\sim7$ exhibit clumpy morphologies with multiple sub-components, suggesting merger-induced starburst activity, which is consistent with SED fitting results showing bursty star formation histories. At $z\gtrsim10$, bright galaxies are classified into two types of galaxies; extended ones with weak high-ionization emission lines, and compact ones with strong high-ionization lines including NIV]$\lambda$1486, indicating that at least two different processes (e.g., merger-induced starburst and compact star formation/AGN) are shaping the physical properties of the brightest galaxies at $z\gtrsim10$ and are responsible for their overabundance., Comment: 32 pages, 22 figures, submitted to ApJ

It is generally hard to put robust constraints on progenitor masses of supernovae (SNe) and remnants (SNRs) observationally, while they offer tantalizing clues to understanding explosion mechanisms and mass distribution. Our recent study suggests that ``shell merger'', which is theoretically expected for stellar evolution, can appreciably affect final yields of inter-mediate mass elements (IMEs; such as Ne, Mg, and Si). In light of this, here we report results of X-ray spectral analysis of a Galactic SNR G359.0-0.9, whose abundance pattern may possibly be anomalous according to a previous study. Our spectroscopy using all the available data taken with XMM-Newton reveals that this remnant is classified as Mg-rich SNRs because of its high Mg-to-Ne ratio (Z_Mg/Z_Ne=1.90+0.27-0.19; mass ratio 0.66+0.09-0.07) and conclude that the result cannot be explained without the shell merger. By comparing the observation with theoretical calculations, we prefer the so-called Ne-burning shell intrusion and in this case the progenitor mass M_ZAMS is likely <15M_sun. We confirm the result also by our new molecular line observations with the NRO-45 m telescope: G359.0-0.9 is located in the Scutum-Centaurus arm (2.66--2.94 kpc) and in this case the resultant total ejecta mass ~6.8M_sun is indeed consistent with the above estimate. Our method using mass ratios of IMEs presented in this paper will become useful to distinguish the type of the shell merger, the Ne-burning shell intrusion and the O-burning shell merger, for future SNR studies.

We present HeI/H$\beta$-flux and He/H-abundance ratios in three JWST galaxies with significant constraints on N/O-abundance ratios, GS-NDG-9422, RXCJ2248-ID, and GLASS150008 at $z\sim 6$ mostly with the spectroscopic coverage from HeI$\lambda$4471 and HeII$\lambda$4686 to HeI$\lambda$7065, comparing with 68 local-dwarf galaxies. We find that these high-$z$ galaxies present strong HeI emission with HeI/H$\beta$ flux ratios generally larger than those of local-dwarf galaxies. We derive He/H with all of the detected HeI, HeII, and $2-3$ hydrogen Balmer lines in the same manner as the local He/H determination conducted for cosmology studies. These high-$z$ galaxies show He overabundance He/H$\gtrsim 0.10$ or high electron density $n_\mathrm{e}\sim 10^{3-4}$ cm$^{-3}$ much larger than local values at low O/H, $12+\log \mathrm{(O/H)}=7-8$. In contrast, we obtain low He/H and $n_\mathrm{e}$ values for our local-dwarf galaxies by the same technique with the same helium and hydrogen lines, and confirm that the difference between the high-$z$ and local-dwarf galaxies are not mimicked by systematics. While two scenarios of 1) He overabundance and 2) high electron density are not clearly concluded, we find that there is a positive correlation on the He/H-N/O or $n_\mathrm{e}$-N/O plane by the comparison of the high-$z$ and local-dwarf galaxies. The scenario 1) suggests that the overabundant helium and nitrogen are not explained by the standard chemical enrichment of core-collapse supernovae, but the CNO-cycle products and equilibrium ratios, respectively. We investigate the dynamics of GN-z11, a luminous galaxy at $z=10.60$, carefully analyzing the public deep integral field spectroscopy (IFS) data taken with JWST NIRSpec IFU. While the observations of the IFS data originally targeted a He II clump near GN-z11, we find that CIII]$\lambda\lambda$1907,1909 emission from ionized gas at GN-z11 is bright and spatially extended significantly beyond the point-spread function (PSF). The spatially extended CIII emission of GN-z11 shows a velocity gradient, red- and blue-shifted components in the north and south directions, respectively, which cannot be explained by the variation of [CIII]$\lambda$1907/CIII]$\lambda$1909 line ratios. Assuming the velocity gradient is produced by disk rotation, we perform forward modeling with GalPak$^{3D}$, including the effects of PSF smearing and line blending, and obtain a rotation velocity of $v_{rot}=257^{+138}_{-117}$ km s$^{-1}$, a velocity dispersion of $\sigma_v=91^{+18}_{-32}$ km s$^{-1}$, and a ratio of $v_{rot}/\sigma_v=2.83^{+1.82}_{-1.41}$. The $v_{rot}/\sigma_v$ value would suggest a rotation-dominated disk existing at $z>10$ albeit with the large uncertainties. The rotation velocity agrees with those of numerical simulations predicting a rotating disk formed in the early universe under the condition of mass compaction and weak feedback. While the velocity gradient is consistent with the rotating disk solution, we recognize that galactic outflows can also explain the velocity gradient as well as the extended morphology and the high velocity dispersion found in the outskirt. Higher S/N and resolution data are necessary to conclude the physical origin of the velocity gradient in GN-z11., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

SN2018ibb is a recently observed hydrogen poor super-luminous supernova which appears to be powered by the decay of $30\;\rm{M_\odot}$ of radioactive nickel. This supernova has been suggested to show hybrid signatures of a pair instability supernova and an interacting supernova. In a previous paper, we found that rotating, metal enriched pair instability supernova progenitors appeared to check both of these boxes. In this paper, we model the lightcurves of the pair instability supernovae using STELLA. We find that the STELLA models can explain the overall shape of the bolometric lightcurve of SN2018ibb, though not specific morphological features such as the luminosity peak or the bump at roughly three hundred days after the peak. We also estimate the contribution from interaction, and find that with relatively low wind velocities, the circum-stellar medium originating from the stellar winds is consistent with the evidence for interaction in the spectra. The observed values of the photosphere velocity in the hundred days after peak luminosity are similar to the STELLA models, but the deceleration is lower. This leads to the biggest inconsistency which is the black body temperature of SN2018ibb being much hotter than any of the STELLA models. We note that this high temperature (and the flat velocity) may be difficult to reconcile with the long rise time of SN2018ibb, but nevertheless conclude that if it is accurate, this discrepancy represents a challenge for SN2018ibb being a robust PISN candidate. We investigate the physical origins of the Balmer decrement anomalies in GS-NDG-9422 (Cameron et al. 2023) and RXCJ2248-ID (Topping et al. 2024) galaxies at $z\sim 6$ whose $\mathrm{H}\alpha/\mathrm{H}\beta$ values are significantly smaller than $2.7$, the latter of which also shows anomalous $\mathrm{H}\gamma/\mathrm{H}\beta$ and $\mathrm{H}\delta/\mathrm{H}\beta$ values beyond the errors. Because the anomalous Balmer decrements are not reproduced under the Case B recombination, we explore the nebulae with the optical depths smaller and larger than the Case B recombination by physical modeling. We find two cases quantitatively explaining the anomalies; 1) density-bounded nebulae that are opaque only up to around Ly$\gamma$-Ly8 transitions and 2) ionization-bounded nebulae partly/fully surrounded by optically-thick excited H{\sc i} clouds. The case of 1) produces more H$\beta$ photons via Ly$\gamma$ absorption in the nebulae, requiring fine tuning in optical depth values, while this case helps ionizing photon escape for cosmic reionization. The case of 2) needs the optically-thick excited H{\sc i} clouds with $N_2\simeq 10^{12}-10^{13}$ $\mathrm{cm^{-2}}$, where $N_2$ is the column density of the hydrogen atom with the principal quantum number of $n=2$. Interestingly, the high $N_2$ values qualitatively agree with the recent claims for GS-NDG-9422 with the strong nebular continuum requiring a number of $2s$-state electrons and for RXCJ2248-ID with the dense ionized regions likely coexisting with the optically-thick clouds. While the physical origin of the optically-thick excited H{\sc i} clouds is unclear, these results may suggest gas clouds with excessive collisional excitation caused by an amount of accretion and supernovae in the high-$z$ galaxies., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

The rise in internet usage has led to the generation of massive amounts of data, resulting in the adoption of various supervised and semi-supervised machine learning algorithms, which can effectively utilize the colossal amount of data to train models. However, before deploying these models in the real world, these must be strictly evaluated on performance measures like worst-case recall and satisfy constraints such as fairness. We find that current state-of-the-art empirical techniques offer sub-optimal performance on these practical, non-decomposable performance objectives. On the other hand, the theoretical techniques necessitate training a new model from scratch for each performance objective. To bridge the gap, we propose SelMix, a selective mixup-based inexpensive fine-tuning technique for pre-trained models, to optimize for the desired objective. The core idea of our framework is to determine a sampling distribution to perform a mixup of features between samples from particular classes such that it optimizes the given objective. We comprehensively evaluate our technique against the existing empirical and theoretically principled methods on standard benchmark datasets for imbalanced classification. We find that proposed SelMix fine-tuning significantly improves the performance for various practical non-decomposable objectives across benchmarks., Comment: ICLR 2024 SpotLight

Simulations of pre-supernova evolution suggest that some intense shell burning can be so active that, in extreme cases, it can merge with the outer shell, changing the initial conditions for the supernova explosion. However, such violent activity in the interior of stars has been difficult to confirm from observations of stars. Here we propose that the elemental composition of O-rich ejecta in supernova remnants can be a tool to test for this kind of intense shell burning activity in the final stages of progenitor evolution. As an example, we discuss the origin of "Mg-rich" ejecta in the supernova remnant N49B. A high Mg/Ne mass ratio $\gtrsim 1$ suggests that the Ne- or O-burning shell has broken into or merged with the outer shell before the collapse. Such Mg-rich (or Ne-poor) ejecta has been identified in some other supernova remnants, supporting the idea that some destratification process, such as a shell merger, does indeed occur in the interiors of some massive stars, although they may not be the majority. Our results suggest that X-ray observations of O-rich ejecta in core-collapse supernova remnants will be a unique tool to probe the shell burning activity during the final stage of a massive star's interior., Comment: Submitted to ApJ and received positive peer review. Acquiring plausible pathways on high-dimensional structural distributions is beneficial in several domains. For example, in the drug discovery field, a protein conformational pathway, i.e. a highly probable sequence of protein structural changes, is useful to analyze interactions between the protein and the ligands, helping to create new drugs. Recently, a state-of-the-art method in drug discovery was presented, which efficiently computes protein pathways using latent variables obtained from an isometric auto-encoding of the space of 3D density maps associated to protein conformations. However, our preliminary experiments show that there is room to significantly reduce the computing time. In this study, we use the Mapper algorithm, which is a Topological Data Analysis method, and present a novel variant to extract plausible conformational pathways from the isometric latent space with comparatively short running time. The extracted pathways are visualized as paths on the resulting Mapper graph. The methodological novelties are described as follows: firstly, the filter function of the Mapper algorithm is optimized so as to extract the pathways via minimization of an energy loss defined on the Mapper graph itself, while filter functions taken in the classical Mapper algorithm are fixed beforehand. The optimization is with respect to parameters of a deep neural network in the filter. Secondly, the clustering method, which defines the vertices and edges of the Mapper graph, of our algorithm, is designed by incorporating domain prior knowledge to assist the extraction. In our numerical experiments, based on an isometric latent space built on the common 50S-ribosomal dataset, the resulting Mapper graph successfully includes all the well-recognized plausible pathways. Moreover, our running time is much shorter than the above state-of-the-art counterpart.

We present the evolution of Ly$\alpha$ emission derived from 53 galaxies at $z=6.6-13.2$ that are identified by multiple JWST/NIRSpec spectroscopy programs of ERS, GO, DDT, and GTO. These galaxies fall on the star-formation main sequence and are the typical star-forming galaxies with UV magnitudes of $-22.5\leq M_\mathrm{UV}\leq-17.0$. We find that 15 out of 53 galaxies show Ly$\alpha$ emission at the $>3\sigma$ levels, and obtain Ly$\alpha$ equivalent width (EW) measurements and stringent $3\sigma$ upper limits for the 15 and 38 galaxies, respectively. Confirming that Ly$\alpha$ velocity offsets and line widths of our galaxies are comparable with those of low-redshift Ly$\alpha$ emitters, we investigate the redshift evolution of the Ly$\alpha$ EW. We find that Ly$\alpha$ EWs statistically decrease towards high redshifts on the Ly$\alpha$ EW vs. $M_{\rm UV}$ plane for various probability distributions of the uncertainties. We then evaluate neutral hydrogen fractions $x_{\rm HI}$ with the Ly$\alpha$ EW redshift evolution and the cosmic reionization simulation results on the basis of a Bayesian inference framework, and obtain $x_{\rm HI}<0.79$, $=0.62^{+0.15}_{-0.36}$, and $0.93^{+0.04}_{-0.07}$ at $z\sim7$, $8$, and $9-13$, respectively. These moderately large $x_{\rm HI}$ values are consistent with the Planck CMB optical depth measurement and previous $x_{\rm HI}$ constraints from galaxy and QSO Ly$\alpha$ damping wing absorptions, and strongly indicate a late reionization history. Such a late reionization history suggests that major sources of reionization would emerge late and be hosted by moderately massive halos in contrast with the widely-accepted picture of abundant low-mass objects for the sources of reionization., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

Lyman-Werner (LW) radiation photodissociating molecular hydrogen (H$_2$) influences the thermal and dynamical evolution of the Population III (Pop III) star-forming gas cloud. The effect of powerful LW radiation has been well investigated in the context of supermassive black hole formation in the early universe. However, the average intensity in the early universe is several orders of magnitude lower. For a comprehensive study, we investigate the effects of LW radiation at $18$ different intensities, ranging from $J_{\rm LW}/J_{21}=0$ (no radiation) to $30$ (H-cooling cloud), on the primordial star-forming gas cloud obtained from a three-dimensional cosmological simulation. The overall trend with increasing radiation intensity is a gradual increase in the gas cloud temperature, consistent with previous works. Due to the HD-cooling, on the other hand, the dependence of gas cloud temperature on $J_{\rm LW}$ deviates from the aforementioned increasing trend for a specific range of intensities ($J_{\rm LW}/J_{21}=0.025-0.09$). In HD-cooling clouds, the temperature remained below $200$ K during $10^5$ yr after the first formation of the high-density region, maintaining a low accretion rate. Finally, the HD-cooling clouds have only a low-mass dense core (above $10^8\,{\rm cm^{-3}}$) with about $1-16\, M_{\odot}$, inside which a low-mass Pop III star with $\leq\!0.8\,M_{\odot}$ (so-called "surviving star") could form. The upper limit of star formation efficiency $M_{\rm core}/M_{\rm vir, gas}$ significantly decreases from $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-5}$ as HD-cooling becomes effective. This tendency indicates that, whereas the total gas mass in the host halo increases with the LW radiation intensity, the total Pop III stellar mass does not increase similarly., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, submitted to ApJ

Variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm designed for noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers. It is promising for quantum chemical calculations (QCC) because it can calculate the ground-state energy of a target molecule. Although VQE has a potential to achieve a higher accuracy than classical approximation methods in QCC, it is challenging to achieve it on current NISQ computers due to the significant impact of noises. Density matrix embedding theory (DMET) is a well-known technique to divide a molecule into multiple fragments, which is available to mitigate the noise impact on VQE. However, our preliminary evaluation shows that the naive combination of DMET and VQE does not outperform a gold standard classical method. In this work, we present three approaches to mitigate the noise impact for the DMET+VQE combination. (1) The size of quantum circuits used by VQE is decreased by reducing the number of bath orbitals which represent interactions between multiple fragments in DMET. (2) Reduced density matrices (RDMs), which are used to calculate a molecular energy in DMET, are calculated accurately based on expectation values obtained by executing quantum circuits using a noise-less quantum computer simulator. (3) The parameters of a quantum circuit optimized by VQE are refined with mathematical post-processing. The evaluation using a noisy quantum computer simulator shows that our approaches significantly improve the accuracy of the DMET+VQE combination. We study outflows in 130 galaxies with -221000 km/s. With the velocity shift and line widths of the outflow broad lines, we obtain ~80-500 km/s for the outflow velocities. We find that the outflow velocities as a function of star-formation rate are comparable to or higher than those of galaxies at z~1, accounting for the selection bias, while the outflow velocities of AGN are large but not significantly different from the others. Interestingly, these outflow velocities are typically not high enough to escape from the galactic potentials, suggestive of fountain-type outflows, which are concluded on the basis of thorough comparisons with recent JWST results. We estimate mass loading factors ${\eta}$ to be 0.1-1 that are not particularly large, but comparable with those of z~1 outflows. The large fraction of galaxies with outflows (30% with high resolution data) provides constraints on outflow parameters, suggesting a wide opening angle of >45 deg and a large duty-cycle of >30%, which gives a picture of more frequent and spherical outflows in high-z galaxies., Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, submitted to the Astrophysical Journal

We present the rest-frame optical and UV surface brightness (SB) profiles for $149$ galaxies with $M_{\rm opt}< -19.4$ mag at $z=4$-$10$ ($29$ of which are spectroscopically confirmed with JWST NIRSpec), securing high signal-to-noise ratios of $10$-$135$ with deep JWST NIRCam $1$-$5\mu$m images obtained by the CEERS survey. We derive morphologies of our high-$z$ galaxies, carefully evaluating the systematics of SB profile measurements with Monte Carlo simulations as well as the impacts of a) AGNs, b) multiple clumps including galaxy mergers, c) spatial resolution differences with previous HST studies, and d) strong emission lines, e.g., H$\alpha$ and [OIII], on optical morphologies with medium-band F410M images. Conducting S\'ersic profile fitting to our high-$z$ galaxy SBs with GALFIT, we obtain the effective radii of optical $r_{\rm e, opt}$ and UV $r_{\rm e, UV}$ wavelengths ranging $r_{\rm e, opt}=0.05$-$1.6$ kpc and $r_{\rm e, UV}=0.03$-$1.7$ kpc that are consistent with previous results within large scatters in the size luminosity relations. However, we find the effective radius ratio, $r_{\rm e, opt}/r_{\rm e, UV}$, is almost unity, $1.01^{+0.35}_{-0.22}$, over $z=4$-$10$ with no signatures of past inside-out star formation such found at $z\sim 0$-$2$. There are no spatial offsets exceeding $3\sigma$ between the optical and UV morphology centers in case of no mergers, indicative of major star-forming activity only found near a mass center of galaxies at $z\gtrsim 4$ probably experiencing the first phase of inside-out galaxy formation., Comment: 33 pages, 18 figures, 6 tables, accepted

Neutrino interactions with stellar material are widely believed to be fundamental to the explosion of massive stars. However, this important process has remained difficult to confirm observationally. We propose a new method to verify it using X-ray observations of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. The elemental composition in its Fe-rich ejecta that could have been produced at the innermost region of the supernova, where neutrinos are expected to interact, allows us to examine the presence of neutrino interactions. Here we demonstrate that the amount of Mn produced without neutrino nucleosynthesis processes (i.e., the $\nu$- and $\nu$p-process) is too small to explain the Mn/Fe mass ratio we measure (0.14--0.67\%). This result supports the operation of significant neutrino interactions in the Cassiopeia A supernova. If the observed Mn/Fe mass ratio purely reflects the production at the innermost region of the supernova, this would be the first robust confirmation of neutrino-matter interactions in an individual supernova. We further show that the Mn/Fe mass ratio has the potential to constrain supernova neutrino parameters (i.e., total neutrino luminosity, neutrino temperature). Future spatially-resolved, high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy will allow us to investigate the details of neutrino-supernova astrophysics through its signatures in elemental composition not only in Cassiopeia A but also in other remnants., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures. In this paper we revisit metal-enriched rotating pair instability supernovae (PISNe) models for metallicities consistent with the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and 0.1$Z_\odot$. By calculating multiple models, we intend to clarify mass ranges and the ejected $^{56}$Ni masses from the PISNe, and mass loss histories for progenitors. We find the choice of the Wolf-Rayet (WR) mass-loss rates are important and we adopt the recently proposed rate of Sander & Vink (2020), which covers the mass ranges for PISNe progenitors. We show that slow rotation lowers the PISN range due to the increase in core mass by rotational mixing. On the other hand, if we assume typical rotation speed for observed OB stars, the mass loss increase becomes more significant and the final stellar masses are smaller than non-rotating models. As a result, typical mass range for bright SNe, with $^{56}$Ni mass more than 10${ M}_\odot$ for such fast rotating models are more than 400, 350 ${ M}_\odot$, for LMC and 0.1$Z_\odot$ metallicities, respectively. It is interesting that, unlike previous works, we find Oxygen rich progenitors for most cases. This O-rich progenitor may be consistent with the recently identified PISN candidate SN2018ibb. He-rich progenitors are seen only for relatively dim and metal poor ($Z \lesssim 0.1 Z_\odot$) PISNe. We also discuss the black hole mass gap for metal-enriched PISNe, and show that the upperbound for the gap is lower than in the Pop III case.

We present chemical abundance ratios of 70 star-forming galaxies at $z\sim4$-10 observed by the JWST/NIRSpec ERO, GLASS, and CEERS programs. Among the 70 galaxies, we have pinpointed 2 galaxies, CEERS_01019 at $z=8.68$ and GLASS_150008 at $z=6.23$, with extremely low C/N ([C/N]$\lesssim -1$), evidenced with CIII]$\lambda\lambda$1907,1909, NIII]$\lambda$1750, and NIV]$\lambda\lambda$1483,1486, which show high N/O ratios ([N/O]$\gtrsim 0.5$) comparable with the one of GN-z11 regardless of whether stellar or AGN radiation is assumed. Such low C/N and high N/O ratios found in CEERS_01019 and GLASS_150008 (additionally identified in GN-z11) are largely biased towards the equilibrium of the CNO cycle, suggesting that these 3 galaxies are enriched by metals processed by the CNO cycle. On the C/N vs. O/H plane, these 3 galaxies do not coincide with Galactic HII regions, normal star-forming galaxies, and nitrogen-loud quasars with asymptotic giant branch stars, but globular-cluster (GC) stars, indicating a connection with GC formation. We compare C/O and N/O of these 3 galaxies with those of theoretical models, and find that these 3 galaxies are explained by scenarios with dominant CNO-cycle materials, i.e. Wolf-Rayet stars, supermassive ($10^{3}-10^{5}\ M_{\odot}$) stars, and tidal disruption events, interestingly with a requirement of frequent direct collapses. For all the 70 galaxies, we present measurements of Ne/O, S/O, and Ar/O, together with C/O and N/O. We identify 4 galaxies with very low Ne/O, $\log(\rm Ne/O)<-1.0$, indicating abundant massive ($\gtrsim30\ M_\odot$) stars., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

We performed $42$ simulations of the first star formation with initial supersonic gas flows relative to the dark matter at the cosmic recombination era. Increasing the initial streaming velocities led to delayed halo formation and increased halo mass, enhancing the mass of the gravitationally shrinking gas cloud. For more massive gas clouds, the rate of temperature drop during contraction, in other words, the structure asymmetry, becomes more significant. When the maximum and minimum gas temperature ratios before and after contraction exceed about ten, the asymmetric structure of the gas cloud prevails, inducing fragmentation into multiple dense gas clouds. We continued our simulations until $10^5$ years after the first dense core formation to examine the final fate of the massive star-forming gas cloud. Among the $42$ models studied, we find the simultaneous formation of up to four dense gas clouds, with a total mass of about $2254\,M_\odot$. While the gas mass in the host halo increases with increasing the initial streaming velocity, the mass of the dense cores does not change significantly. The star formation efficiency decreases by more than one order of magnitude from $\epsilon_{\rm III} \sim 10^{-2}$ to $10^{-4}$ when the initial streaming velocity, normalised by the root mean square value, increases from 0 to 3., Comment: 15 pages, 16 figures, 1 table, Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present statistics of $z\sim 6-9$ galaxy outflows indicated by spatially-extended gas emission and broad lines. With a total of 61 spectroscopically confirmed galaxies at $z\sim 6-9$ in the JWST CEERS, GLASS, and ERO data, we find four galaxies with [O{\sc iii}]+H$\beta$ ionized gas emission significantly extended beyond the kpc-scale stellar components on the basis of the emission line images constructed by the subtraction of NIRCam broadband (line on/off-band) images. By comparison with low-$z$ galaxies, the fraction of galaxies with the spatially extended gas, 4/18, at $z\sim 6-9$ is an order of magnitude higher than those at $z\sim 0-1$, which can be explained by events triggered by frequent major mergers at high redshift. We also investigate medium- and high-resolution NIRSpec spectra of 30 galaxies at $z\sim 6-9$, and identify five galaxies with broad ($140-800$ km s$^{-1}$) lines in the [O{\sc iii}] forbidden line emission, suggestive of galaxy outflows. One galaxy at $z=6.38$ shows both the spatially-extended gas emission and the broad lines, while none of the galaxies with the spatially-extended gas emission or broad lines present a clear signature of AGN either in the line diagnostics or Type 1 AGN line broadening ($>1000$ km s$^{-1}$), which hint outflows mainly driven by stellar feedback. The existence of galaxies with/without spatially-extended gas emission or broad lines may be explained by different viewing angles towards outflows, or that these are galaxies in the early, late, post phases of galaxy outflows at high redshift, where the relatively large fractions of such galaxies indicate the longer-duration and/or more-frequent outflows at the early cosmic epoch., Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present volume-averaged neutral hydrogen fractions $x_{\rm \HI}$ and ionized bubble radii $R_{\rm b}$ measured with Ly$\alpha$ damping wing absorption of galaxies at the epoch of reionization. We have investigated structural, electronic and magnetic properties of H$_2$Pc on Fe$_2$N/Fe using low-energy electron diffraction and soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy/x-ray magnetic circular dichroism. Element specific magnetization curves reveal that the magnetic coupling with H$_2$Pc enhances the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of Fe$_2$N/Fe at the H$_2$Pc coverage of 1 molecular layer. However, adding two and three molecular layers of H$_2$Pc reverts the shape of magnetization curve back to the initial state before H$_2$Pc deposition. We successfully link appearance and disappearance of the magnetic coupling at the H$_2$Pc-Fe$_2$N/Fe interface with the change of hybridization strength at N sites accompanied by the increase in the H$_2$Pc coverage., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We present 20,567 Ly$\alpha$ emitters (LAEs) at $z=2.2-7.3$ that are photometrically identified by the SILVERRUSH program in a large survey area up to 25 deg$^2$ with deep images of five broadband filters (grizy) and seven narrowband filters targeting Ly$\alpha$ lines at $z=2.2$, $3.3$, $4.9$, $5.7$, $6.6$, $7.0$, and $7.3$ taken by the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) and the Cosmic HydrOgen Reionization Unveiled with Subaru (CHORUS) survey. We select secure $>5\sigma$ sources showing narrowband color excesses via Ly$\alpha$ break screening, taking into account the spatial inhomogeneity of limiting magnitudes. After removing spurious sources by careful masking and visual inspection of coadded and multi-epoch images obtained over the 7 yr of the surveys, we construct LAE samples consisting of 6995, 4641, 726, 6124, 2058, 18, and 5 LAEs at $z=2.2$, 3.3, 4.9, 5.7, 6.6, 7.0, and 7.3, respectively, although the $z=7.3$ candidates are tentative. Our LAE catalogs contain 241 spectroscopically confirmed LAEs at the expected redshifts from previous work. We demonstrate that the number counts of our LAEs are consistent with previous studies with similar LAE selection criteria.
