1. STEM Research Trends from 2013 to 2022: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract

The integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) approaches into learning continues to attract the attention of researchers and academics. Teachers play a key role in the success and support of learning when implementing STEM-based learning. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview, building on previous literature, and to provide future directions for further STEM research by researchers and educators. There are 193 documents containing his STEM in the Taylor & Francis database, which were synthesized. Research questions include annual publication frequency. Distribution includes STEM titles, method and topic distributions, most cited counts, most contributing countries, and frequently publishing journals in the STEM field. Of the 193 articles, only 21 contained the word MINT in the title, and 64 documents saw a significant increase in publication frequency in 2022. Most of the research published in the STEM field focuses on teaching and learning and mastering concepts. Aligned by country, the United States, United Kingdom and Sweden make the largest contributions in this area compared to other countries, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Norway. The most cited authors are Joseph Krajcik, Susan Codere, Chanyah Dahsah, Renee Bayer, and Kongju Mun, who have been cited 110 times. Based on the number of articles, the International Journal of Science Education is the journal that contributed the most to STEM between 2013 and 2022.

Abstract

Soil respiration activity is one of the contributors to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the agricultural sector. The agricultural sector can also reduce the CO2 emissions it produces, one of which is by making biochar from agricultural waste. Palm shells have potential as raw materials for biochar because they contain hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin. The purpose of this study was to study the effect of adding biochar with variations in pyrolysis temperature on CO2 emissions resulting from the soil respiration process. Palm shell biochar was pyrolyzed with temperature variations of 500 oC and 600 oC for 1 hour and activated using NaOH. Biochar was then added to the soil at a dose of 10% and incubated for 25 days which was tested once every five days. The results showed that the highest CO2 emissions occurred from soil respiration activities with the addition of palm shell biochar at a temperature of 600 oC at an incubation time of 5 days, which was 37 mg CO2. This value was 22.95% greater than the control treatment without the addition of biochar.

5. Increase Student Learning Activities by Using A Problem-Based Learning Model in Legum Technology Lecture Materials

Abstract

Student learning activities can be measured by how active students are while studying. A student-centered learning model is needed, especially for courses with no practicum, such as legum technology material, to make the classroom atmosphere more varied. Therefore, this study aims to increase student learning activities using a problem-based learning model in legum technology lecture materials. This research is a class action study conducted in 2 cycles, each consisting of 2 meetings. The research subject comprised 20 students majoring in Agricultural Industrial Technology, Agro-industrial Study Program. The data collection techniques include preserving student learning activities using a problem-based learning model. The results showed that the students learning activity increased with an average per cycle in cycle I of 2.14 and was included in the "sufficient" category with the description of group C, and on average in cycle II increased with the achievement of 2.85 and has been included in the "good" category. This research shows that the problem-based learning model has been proven to improve student learning activities in the classroom. In addition, this research also demonstrates that classroom action research can be carried out in elementary, middle, and high schools and at the college level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis manajemen pendidikan berbasis pembelajaran inspiratif dan bermakna di era teknologi digital. Dimana pendidikan yang bermakna nantinya bisa memberikan inspirasi bagi peserta didik dalam dunia pendidikan di era serba digital, guna membangun suatu iklim pembelajaran yang menyenangkan, menginspirasi, bermakna serta terlaksana dengan efektif dan efiseien. Untuk mewujudkan tujuan penelitian diatas, maka peneliti memilih jenis penelitian studi pustaka dengan pendekatan filosofis atau analisis konten dengan mengumpulkan literatur terkait, baik buku, artikel dan literasi relevan lainnya sebagai sumber data. Adapun hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dalam menjadikan iklim pembelajaran yang bersifat bermakna dan inspiratif di era digital ini, maka aspek yang paling dasar yang wajib dipahami oleh para pendidik ialah bagaimana para pendidik bisa mendorong serta menarik minat untuk menyukai serta senang terhadap kegiatan pembelajaran serta materi yang disampaikan. Untuk mewujudkan hal itu, proses pendidikan mesti dimanajerial dengan baik yaitu melalui substansi manajerial terkait inovasi pada model pembelajaran era digital, menguasai konten knowledge dan teknologi knowledge serta menjalankan evaluasi serta inovasi dalam pembelajaran dengan bantuan media digital.

Abstract

Pendidikan vokasi merupakan pendidikan berbasis keterampilan siap kerja. Pembelajaran juga lebih menekankan kepada praktik langsung tanpa melupakan pentingnya pemberian teori di kelas. Oleh sebab itu, materi parameter limbah cair yang dinilai cukup sulit untuk dipelajari oleh mahasiswa juga harus diajarkan sebagai bagian dari mata kuliah Teknologi Pengolahan Limbah. Penggunaan aplikasi Kahoot dimaksudkan agar pembelajaran menjadi lebih menyenangkan. Penilaian pada beberapa materi tertentu termasuk materi parameter limbah cair dilakukan menggunakan cara biasa atau umum menggunakan lembar jawaban dan melalui aplikasi ini. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mendeskripsikan respon mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Kahoot. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester 5 Jurusan Teknologi Industri Pertanian Politeknik Negeri Tanah Laut tahun akademik semester Ganjil 2019–2020. Instrumen penelitian adalah angket respon. Data hasil penelitian diolah secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa lebih menyenangi pembelajaran dan penilaian kuiz pada materi parameter limbah cair dengan Kahoot dibandingkan dengan yang menggunakan cara biasa. Rerata angka yang diperoleh dari angket menyatakan sebesar 4,394 mahasiswa menyatakan suka terhadap pembelajaran menggunakan Kahoot, sedangkan rerata angka yang diperoleh dengan pembelajaran cara biasa hanya sebesar 1,818. Hal ini terbukti bahwa mahasiswa di kampus Vokasi lebih menyenangi perkuliahan yang terdapat aplikasi seperti Kahoot didalamnya untuk membuat kegiatan belajar mengajar semakin menyenangkan.

20. Determination of Kinetic Parameters and The Effect of Ion Mg2+ Inhibition Into Pectinase Activities.

Abstract

The purpose of study was to determine kinetic parameters and inhibitory effect of Mg2+ ions on pectinase. Activity test performed at pH 4,5 temperature 55oC for 50' with 10 mm concentrations of each ion 0-10mm. Galacturonic acid content, as product of pectin substrate hydrolysis, was used as basis for determining activity and analyzed by visible spectrophotometry. At concentrations 2 and 4 mm Mg2+ act as an activator, but at concentrations 6, 8, and 10 mM as inhibitors. The value of KM with and without inhibitors is almost same, that is 0.3145% and 0.3105% but value of Vm from both are different, that is 80,645 μg.ml-1.minute-1 and 62,112 μg.ml-1.minute-1. The conclusion that type of inhibitory pectinase with Mg2+ is a non-competitive inhibition. The inhibition constant value (Ki) is 26,84.
