The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people globally, with respiratory organs being strongly affected in individuals with comorbidities. Medical imaging-based diagnosis and prognosis have become increasingly popular in clinical settings for detecting COVID-19 lung infections. Among various medical imaging modalities, ultrasound stands out as a low-cost, mobile, and radiation-safe imaging technology. In this comprehensive review, we focus on AI-driven studies utilizing lung ultrasound (LUS) for COVID-19 detection and analysis. We provide a detailed overview of both publicly available and private LUS datasets and categorize the AI studies according to the dataset they used. Additionally, we systematically analyzed and tabulated the studies across various dimensions, including data preprocessing methods, AI models, cross-validation techniques, and evaluation metrics. In total, we reviewed 60 articles, 41 of which utilized public datasets, while the remaining employed private data. Our findings suggest that ultrasound-based AI studies for COVID-19 detection have great potential for clinical use, especially for children and pregnant women. Our review also provides a useful summary for future researchers and clinicians who may be interested in the field.

Linear quadratic output systems constitute an important class of dynamical systems with numerous practical applications. When the order of these models is exceptionally high, simulating and analyzing these systems becomes computationally prohibitive. In such instances, model order reduction offers an effective solution by approximating the original high-order system with a reduced-order model while preserving the system's essential characteristics. In frequency-limited model order reduction, the objective is to maintain the frequency response of the original system within a specified frequency range in the reduced-order model. In this paper, a mathematical expression for the frequency-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$ norm is derived, which quantifies the error within the desired frequency interval. Subsequently, the necessary conditions for a local optimum of the frequency-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$ norm of the error are derived. The inherent difficulty in satisfying these conditions within a Petrov-Galerkin projection framework is also discussed. Based on the optimality conditions and Petrov-Galerkin projection, a stationary point iteration algorithm is proposed that enforces three of the four optimality conditions upon convergence. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the algorithm's effectiveness in accurately approximating the original high-order model within the specified frequency interval.

An important class of dynamical systems with several practical applications is linear systems with quadratic outputs. These models have the same state equation as standard linear time-invariant systems but differ in their output equations, which are nonlinear quadratic functions of the system states. When dealing with models of exceptionally high order, the computational demands for simulation and analysis can become overwhelming. In such cases, model order reduction proves to be a useful technique, as it allows for constructing a reduced-order model that accurately represents the essential characteristics of the original high-order system while significantly simplifying its complexity. In time-limited model order reduction, the main goal is to maintain the output response of the original system within a specific time range in the reduced-order model. To assess the error within this time interval, a mathematical expression for the time-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$-norm is derived in this paper. This norm acts as a measure of the accuracy of the reduced-order model within the specified time range. Subsequently, the necessary conditions for achieving a local optimum of the time-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$ norm error are derived. The inherent inability to satisfy these optimality conditions within the Petrov-Galerkin projection framework is also discussed. After that, a stationary point iteration algorithm based on the optimality conditions and Petrov-Galerkin projection is proposed. Upon convergence, this algorithm fulfills three of the four optimality conditions. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a numerical example is provided that showcases its ability to effectively approximate the original high-order model within the desired time interval.

SMS, or short messaging service, is a widely used and cost-effective communication medium that has sadly turned into a haven for unwanted messages, commonly known as SMS spam. With the rapid adoption of smartphones and Internet connectivity, SMS spam has emerged as a prevalent threat. Spammers have taken notice of the significance of SMS for mobile phone users. Consequently, with the emergence of new cybersecurity threats, the number of SMS spam has expanded significantly in recent years. The unstructured format of SMS data creates significant challenges for SMS spam detection, making it more difficult to successfully fight spam attacks in the cybersecurity domain. In this work, we employ optimized and fine-tuned transformer-based Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve the problem of spam message detection. We use a benchmark SMS spam dataset for this spam detection and utilize several preprocessing techniques to get clean and noise-free data and solve the class imbalance problem using the text augmentation technique. The overall experiment showed that our optimized fine-tuned BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) variant model RoBERTa obtained high accuracy with 99.84\%. We also work with Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) techniques to calculate the positive and negative coefficient scores which explore and explain the fine-tuned model transparency in this text-based spam SMS detection task. In addition, traditional Machine Learning (ML) models were also examined to compare their performance with the transformer-based models. This analysis describes how LLMs can make a good impact on complex textual-based spam data in the cybersecurity field.

Integrating components from convolutional neural networks and state space models in medical image segmentation presents a compelling approach to enhance accuracy and efficiency. We introduce Mamba HUNet, a novel architecture tailored for robust and efficient segmentation tasks. Leveraging strengths from Mamba UNet and the lighter version of Hierarchical Upsampling Network (HUNet), Mamba HUNet combines convolutional neural networks local feature extraction power with state space models long range dependency modeling capabilities. We first converted HUNet into a lighter version, maintaining performance parity and then integrated this lighter HUNet into Mamba HUNet, further enhancing its efficiency. The architecture partitions input grayscale images into patches, transforming them into 1D sequences for processing efficiency akin to Vision Transformers and Mamba models. Through Visual State Space blocks and patch merging layers, hierarchical features are extracted while preserving spatial information. Experimental results on publicly available Magnetic Resonance Imaging scans, notably in Multiple Sclerosis lesion segmentation, demonstrate Mamba HUNet's effectiveness across diverse segmentation tasks. The model's robustness and flexibility underscore its potential in handling complex anatomical structures. Phishing email is a serious cyber threat that tries to deceive users by sending false emails with the intention of stealing confidential information or causing financial harm. Attackers, often posing as trustworthy entities, exploit technological advancements and sophistication to make detection and prevention of phishing more challenging. Despite extensive academic research, phishing detection remains an ongoing and formidable challenge in the cybersecurity landscape. Large Language Models (LLMs) and Masked Language Models (MLMs) possess immense potential to offer innovative solutions to address long-standing challenges. In this research paper, we present an optimized, fine-tuned transformer-based DistilBERT model designed for the detection of phishing emails. In the detection process, we work with a phishing email dataset and utilize the preprocessing techniques to clean and solve the imbalance class issues. Through our experiments, we found that our model effectively achieves high accuracy, demonstrating its capability to perform well. Finally, we demonstrate our fine-tuned model using Explainable-AI (XAI) techniques such as Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME) and Transformer Interpret to explain how our model makes predictions in the context of text classification for phishing emails.

Model order reduction involves constructing a reduced-order approximation of a high-order model while retaining its essential characteristics. This reduced-order model serves as a substitute for the original one in various applications such as simulation, analysis, and design. Often, there's a need to maintain high accuracy within a specific time or frequency interval, while errors beyond this limit can be tolerated. This paper addresses time-limited and frequency-limited model order reduction scenarios for linear systems with quadratic outputs, by generalizing the recently introduced structure-preserving balanced truncation algorithm. To that end, limited interval system Gramians are defined, and the corresponding generalized Lyapunov equations governing their computation are derived. Additionally, low-rank solutions for these equations are investigated. Next, balanced truncation algorithms are proposed for time-limited and frequency-limited scenarios, each utilizing its corresponding limited-interval system Gramians. The proposed algorithms ensure accurate results within specified time and frequency intervals while preserving the quadratic-output structure. Two benchmark numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithms, showcasing their ability to achieve superior accuracy within the desired time or frequency interval.

Electrolyte design is critical for enabling next-generation batteries with higher energy densities. Hydrofluoroether (HFE) solvents have drawn a lot of attention as the electrolytes based on HFEs showed great promise to deliver highly desired properties, including high oxidative stability, ionic conductivity, as well as enhanced lithium metal compatibility. However, the structure-dynamics-properties relationships and design principles for high-performance HFE solvents are still poorly understood. Herein, we proposed four novel asymmetric HFE designs by systematically varying polyether and fluorocarbon structural building blocks. By leveraging molecular dynamics (MD) modeling to analyze the solvation structures and predict the properties of the corresponding 1 M lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) solutions, we downselected the most promising candidate based on high conductivity, solvation species distribution, and oxidative stability for extensive electrochemical characterizations. The formulated electrolyte demonstrated properties consistent with the predictions from the simulations and showed much-improved capacity retention as well as Coulombic efficiency compared to the baseline electrolytes when cycled in lithium metal cells. Four rounds of surveys of slum dwellers in Dhaka city during the 2020-21 COVID-19 pandemic raise questions about whether the slum dwellers possess some form of immunity to the effects of COVID-19? If the working poor of Bangladesh are practically immune to COVID-19, why has this question not been more actively investigated? Digital Twin technology is being envisioned to be an integral part of the industrial evolution in modern generation. With the rapid advancement in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology and increasing trend of automation, integration between the virtual and the physical world is now realizable to produce practical digital twins. However, the existing definitions of digital twin is incomplete and sometimes ambiguous. Herein, we conduct historical review and analyze the modern generic view of digital twin to create its new extended definition. We also review and discuss the existing work in digital twin in safety-critical robotics applications. Especially, the usage of digital twin in industrial applications necessitates autonomous and remote operations due to environmental challenges. However, the uncertainties in the environment may need close monitoring and quick adaptation of the robots which need to be safety-proof and cost effective. We demonstrate a case study on developing a framework for safety-critical robotic arm applications and present the system performance to show its advantages, and discuss the challenges and scopes ahead.

Digital Twin technology is playing a pivotal role in the modern industrial evolution. Especially, with the technological progress in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and the increasing trend in autonomy, multi-sensor equipped robotics can create practical digital twin, which is particularly useful in the industrial applications for operations, maintenance and safety. Herein, we demonstrate a real-world digital twin of a safety-critical robotics applications with a Franka-Emika-Panda robotic arm. We develop and showcase an edge-assisted collaborative digital twin for dynamic obstacle avoidance which can be useful in real-time adaptation of the robots while operating in the uncertain and dynamic environments in industrial IoT.

Image super-resolution is an important research area in computer vision that has a wide variety of applications including surveillance, medical imaging etc. Real-world signal image super-resolution has become very popular now-a-days due to its real-time application. There are still a lot of scopes to improve real-world single image super-resolution specially during challenging weather scenarios. In this paper, we have proposed a new algorithm to perform real-world single image super-resolution during rainy condition. Our proposed method can mitigate the influence of rainy conditions during image super-resolution. Our experiment results show that our proposed algorithm can perform image super-resolution decreasing the negative effects of the rain.
