Abstract

A new series of aromatic polyimides were synthesised by solution polycondensation of diamine monomer with different dianhydrides via the conventional two-step method. On comparison with tetraphenyl components related previous reports, synthesized polyimides containing heterocyclic tetraphenylthiophene-quinoxaline unit showed outstanding thermal properties. Synthesized polyimides showed high glass transition temperatures between 244–274°C. The structure-property correlations among these polyimides were also studied. Also, these polyimides were displayed excellent hydrophilicity except PI-V with the contact angles in the range of 50.4–93.6°. Such hydrophilic polyimide films can be used as polymer electrolytes in ion conduction applications and batteries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

24. Synthesis and characterization of aromatic–aliphatic polyamides

Abstract

A new monomer, 2,5-bis(4-carboxy methylene phenyl)-3,4-diphenyl thiophene (V) has been synthesized and characterized by physical and spectroscopic methods. A series of eight aromatic–aliphatic polyamides was prepared from the (V) and different aromatic diamines using Yamazaki's direct phosphorylation reaction. The polyamides were characterized by IR spectroscopy, viscosity measurements, and thermal analysis. An excellent yield of these polyamides was obtained, with inherent viscosities in the range of 0.28 to 0.67 dL/g, and the polyamide were readily soluble in aprotic polar solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, N-N-dimethyl acetamide, dimethyl sulphoxide, and so forth. Polyamides could be cast into transparent and flexible films. They had glass-transition temperatures of 225–273°C. When evaluated by thermogravimetry, thermal analysis of the polyamides showed no weight loss below 311°C, and the char yield in air at 900°C was 55%–67%. Abstract

A 4-(o-chlorophenyl)-2-aminothiazole (CPAT) has been synthesized by reacting o-chloroacetophenone, iodine and thiourea under microwave irradiation as a green chemistry approach. The reactions proceed selectively and within a couple of minutes giving high yields of the products. The compound was characterized by elemental, spectral (UV-visible, IR, NMR and GC-MS), XRD and thermal analyses. The TG curve of the compound was analyzed to calculate various kinetic parameters (n, E, Z, ΔS and ΔG) by using Coats-Redfern (C.R.), MacCallum-Tanner (M.T.) and Horowitz-Metzger (H.M.) method. The compound was tested for the evaluation of antibacterial activity against B. subtilis and E. coli and antifungal activity against A. niger and C. albicans. The compound was evaluated for their in vitro nematicidal activity on plant parasitic nematode Meloidogyne javanica and molluscicidal activity on fresh water helminthiasis vector snail Lymnea auricularia.
