An e-book version of a title adds all sorts of good things to the book. It produces an instant concordance which outperforms the vast majority of indexes and/or tables of contents. E-books are a way around the most obvious downside to printed books--they weigh too much. And they are a way to move books from place to place, to figure out which ones are needed, and to use Print on Demand technologies to turn the book back into a printed book wherever and whenever it is needed. If e-books are endangering printed ones, one would suppose we would be seeing more of the former and fewer of the latter. We are not.
