LoRaWAN (Long Range WAN) is one of the well-known emerging technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT). Many IoT applications involve simple devices that transmit their data toward network gateways or access points that, in their turn, redirect data to application servers. While several security issues have been addressed in the LoRaWAN specification v1.1, there are still some aspects that may undermine privacy and security of the interconnected IoT devices. In this paper, we tackle a privacy aspect related to LoRaWAN device identity. The proposed approach, by monitoring the network traffic in LoRaWAN, is able to derive, in a probabilistic way, the unique identifier of the IoT device from the temporal address assigned by the network. In other words, the method identifies the relationship between the LoRaWAN DevAddress and the device manufacturer DevEUI. The proposed approach, named DEVIL (DEVice Identification and privacy Leakage), is based on temporal patterns arising in the packets transmissions. The paper presents also a detailed study of two real datasets: i) one derived by IoT devices interconnected to a prominent network operator in Italy; ii) one taken from the literature (the LoED dataset in Bhatia et al. (2020)). DEVIL is evaluated on the first dataset while the second is analyzed to support the hypothesis under the DEVIL operation. The results of our analysis, compared with other literature approaches, show how device identification through DEVIL can expose IoT devices to privacy leakage. Finally, the paper also provides some guidelines to mitigate the user re-identification threats.

Objectives Studies describing linkage of ambulance trips and emergency department (ED) visits of patients with opioid-related overdose (ORO) are limited. We linked records of patients experiencing ORO from ambulance trip and ED visit records in Massachusetts during April 1–June 30, 2017. Methods We estimated the positive predictive value of ORO-capturing definitions by examining the narratives and triage notes of a sample of OROs from each data source. Because of a lack of common unique identifiers, we deterministically linked OROs to records in the counter data set on date of birth, incident date, facility, and sex. To validate the linkage strategy, we compared ambulance trip narratives with ED triage notes and chief complaints for a sample of pairs. Results Of 3203 ambulance trips for ORO and 3046 ED visits for ORO, 82% and 63%, respectively, matched a record in the counter data set on date of birth, incident date, facility, and sex. In 200 randomly selected linked pairs from a final linked data set of 3006 paired records, only 5 (3%) appeared to be false matches. Practice Implications This exercise demonstrated the feasibility of linking ORO records between 2 data sets without a unique identifier. Future analyses of the linked data could produce insights not available from analyzing either data set alone. Linkage using 2 rapidly available data sets can actively inform the state’s public health opioid overdose response and allow for de-duplicating counts of OROs treated by ambulance, in an ED, or both.

The European Variation Archive (EVA; https://www.ebi.ac.uk/eva/) is a resource for sharing all types of genetic variation data (SNPs, indels, and structural variants) for all species. The EVA was created in 2014 to provide FAIR access to genetic variation data and has since grown to be a primary resource for genomic variants hosting >3 billion records. The EVA and dbSNP have established a compatible global system to assign unique identifiers to all submitted genetic variants. The EVA is active within the Global Alliance of Genomics and Health (GA4GH), maintaining, contributing and implementing standards such as VCF, Refget and Variant Representation Specification (VRS). In this article, we describe the submission and permanent accessioning services along with the different ways the data can be retrieved by the scientific community.

The number of scientific articles published each year is rapidly growing and so is the number of academic journals. This makes it impossible for an individual practitioner or researcher to keep track of all research published in their own field or sub-discipline. With the growing amount of publications, it is also becoming more difficult to distinguish between similar papers published on the same topic, in the same journal, or by the same researchers (or research team). This perspective paper could support students and novice researchers, outlines the difference between the unique identifier for: (1) you as the researcher, (2) a specific paper; and (3) a specific journal. This paper further outlines the various numerical identifiers associated with academic publishing to help demystify academic publishing.

Wirelessly based security applications have exploded as a result of modern technology. To build and/or implement security access control systems, many types of wireless communication technologies have been deployed. quick response (QR code) is a contactless technology that is extensively utilised in a variety of sectors, including access control, library book tracking, supply chains, and tollgate systems, among others. This paper combines QR code technology with Arduino and Python to construct an automated QR code-based access management system. After detecting a QR code, the QR scanner at the entry collects and compares the user's unique identifier (UID) with the UID recorded in the system. The results show that this system is capable of granting or denying access to a protected environment in a timely, effective, and reliable way. Security systems can protect physical and intellectual property by preventing unauthorized persons from entering the area. Many door locks, such as mechanical and electrical locks, were created to meet basic security needs but it also helps to create a data files structure of the authorized persons.

In modern life, the massive number of vehicles makes it hard for a human being to process its related information. So, it is important to build an automatic system to collect information about vehicles. The license plate is the unique identifier of a vehicle. In this paper, we propose an automatic license plate recognition system. The proposed system was based on the Faster R-CNN improved by adding an adaptive attention network for the segmentation of the license plate to retrieve the numbers and the letters of identification. Also, we add a deconvolution layer at the top of the features extraction network to detect the small size of the target license plate. To train and evaluate the proposed system, a dataset was collected for Arabic countries such as Egypt, KSA, and UAE that have similar license plates with Arabic and Indian numbers, Arabic and Latin alphabets. The dataset was collected from the internet using a python script then it was filtered and annotated manually. The evaluation of the proposed model dataset results in achieving a recall of 98.65 % and a precision of 97.46 %. The developed system was able to process images in real-time with a processing speed of 23 FPS.

The current clinical interface for Varian's intrafraction motion review (IMR) is limited, providing only qualitative data for review at the treatment console. This study provides a method of extracting and interpreting data from combined log files for quantitative evaluation. Combined log files acquired during patient treatment and a parsing code was developed to scan the combined log file looking for unique identifiers pertaining to the data of interest. We were able to extract clinically relevant parameters from the log files including date and time, gantry angle, expected marker position, found marker position, pixel size, and detection result. This study details how to compare IMR data to Calypso investigating dual‐surrogates for intrafraction monitoring during treatment for other researchers to build on these methods. Understanding data recorded during treatment within the combined log files can be helpful in quality improvement of patient care by retrospectively reviewing intrafraction motion.

Currently, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the key technologies to realize the Internet of Things (IoT), which is widely used in our daily life. However, there are some security threats such as impersonation attack, replay attack in existed RFID systems. In addition, most physical-layer authentication methods for RFID systems are mainly to authenticate tags without authenticating the user. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of Au-Hota, a system that can authenticate the tag and the user simultaneously, and can resist replaying attack and impersonation attack that cannot be solved by most physical-layer methods. Our idea is to assign a unique identifier to the user based on the inductive coupling between two adjacent tags. When the user draws the identity identifier on the tag, different identity identifiers correspond to unique phase features so that simultaneous authentication of the tag and the user can be achieved under the premise of ensuring security. The system is fully compatible with Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID systems without any modification. We implement a prototype of the system and conduct extensive experiments to evaluate performance. Our results demonstrate that the system has good authentication performance.

Objective: To describe and understand the experiences in the use of the Internet of the students of the Nursing School of the I and II cycle of a private university of Chiclayo, 2019.Method: This research was qualitative with an exploratory descriptive approach, made up of all university students belonging to the I and II 2019 cycle II of the nursing school of the Catholic University Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo, who took all their courses according to their plan of studies, singles, their ages ranged from 17-20 years, an adolescent and young population. The sample size was 12 regular nursing students, and it was determined by the saturation and redundancy data technique. To obtain data, the semi-structured interview was applied in depth, prepared by the researcher and validated by expert judgment. The data was processed with content analysis, ethical principles and scientific rigor were kept.Main results: Two categories: a) Use of the Internet as an educational support: virtual campus, information search and group work and b) Use of the Internet as a means of communication and entertainment: risks and repercussions.General conclusion: Nursing students see the internet as a very important tool in their training, communication and university entertainment, but at the same time they experienced repercussions on their health (sleep pattern disorders such as insomnia, red and tired eyes, fatigue physical), as in the social (cyberbullying). El tamaño de la muestra fue de 12 estudiantes regulares de enfermería, y fue determinada por la técnica de saturación y redundancia de datos. Para la obtención de datos se aplicó la entrevista semi-estructurada a profundidad, elaborada por la investigadora y fue validada por juicio de expertos. Los datos se procesaron con análisis de contenido, se guardó los principios éticos y de rigor científico.Resultados principales: Dos categorías: a) Uso de internet como soporte educativo: campus virtual, búsqueda de información y trabajos grupales y b) Uso de internet como medio de comunicación y entretenimiento: riesgos y repercusiones.Conclusión general: Los estudiantes de enfermería ven al internet como una herramienta muy importante en su formación, comunicación y entretenimiento universitario, pero al mismo tiempo vivenciaron repercusiones en su salud (trastornos del patrón del sueño como el insomnio, los ojos rojos y cansados, cansancio físico), como en lo social (ciberbullying). Objective: to determine the differences in the score of the National Nursing Exam in applicants to the Rural and Urban Marginal Health Service in Cajamarca Peru, according to the university of origin.Method: Observational, cross-sectional study, carried out in 68 applicants to the Rural and Urban Marginal Health Service 2020 - I in nursing, using the online database of the Ministry of Health.Main results: The average score obtained by the applicants of the National Autonomous University of Chota was 14.36 ± 1.09, of the National University of Cajamarca of 13.65 ± 1.40, of the Private University of Chiclayo of 12.13 ± 0.64, of the San Pedro Private University of 12.10 ± 0.84, of the Antonio Guillermo Urrelo Private University of 11.98 ± 0.70 and from the Alas Peruanas University of 11.15 ± 0.21. The overall difference in score between universities was significant (p = 0.000).General conclusion: Comparing the score obtained between pairs of universities, the National Autonomous University of Chota with the National University of Cajamarca do not present significant differences; but there are significant differences between the National Autonomous University of Chota and the Private University of Chiclayo, San Pedro Private University, Antonio Guillermo Urrelo Private University and Alas Peruanas University.
