Context: Rehabilitation after an anterior cruciate ligament injury is recommended to be started soon after the injury. When surgery is required, research supports the delivery of physiotherapy before anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (prehabilitation) to optimize recovery and positive outcomes. Individuals attending prehabilitation have never been questioned regarding their adherence to prehabilitation, perception of utility in meeting needs, upcoming events, or anticipated recovery goals. Design: Mixed methods cross-sectional study: Methods: 25 individuals before anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (43% of eligible individuals from 12 clinics during the delivery period) were surveyed on their mindset and recovery expectancies. Semistructured interviews conducted in 9 of 25 participants assessed their lived experience of prehabilitation. Results: Participants reported that preventing a reinjury (96% of responses) and feeling confident during daily activities about their knee (92%) were the higher rating expectations at this stage of their treatment course. Three themes were developed from the interviews and analyses. (1) Participants reported that prehabilitation was a period full of challenges with memories of the injury and uncertainties. (2) They viewed prehabilitation as a step to move forward by finding support and self-motivating. (3) They believed that prehabilitation would have positive impacts on the treatment outcomes. Participants were confident that prehabilitation would accelerate the recovery of muscle volume (88%) and strength (84%). The current study explored coach and athlete reactions and challenges leading up to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, with a specific focus on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Games' postponement. Nine Australian Paralympic coaches (n = 3) and athletes (n = 6) shared their experiences in semistructured interviews. The thematic analysis highlighted how participants experienced the emergence of the pandemic in different ways, but all were relieved when the late but eventual decision to postpone the Games was made. Regarding lockdown periods (i.e., social-distancing restrictions), some coaches and athletes thrived under the new reality (i.e., training from home, online coaching) while others had more difficulty adjusting. Furthermore, results highlight the many uncertainties still remaining, which continue to influence participants' sport and personal lives. The experiences of coaches and athletes during the COVID-19 pandemic sheds light on strategies and resources that could support Paralympic coaches and athletes during current and future crises. This paper studies supply chain pricing and production/ordering decisions under carbon tax policy and retailer's stochastic demand. Firstly, a supply chain model with random demand obeying normal distribution is established. Based on this, a stochastic optimization problem with the goal of maximizing expected social welfare is constructed. The multi-agent consensus is used to solve the optimization problem, and the pricing and production/ordering decisions with random demand obeying normal distribution are obtained. Finally, the theoretical results are verified by numerical simulation, and the influence and effectiveness of multi-agent consensus theory on supply chain decision-making are demonstrated in the presence of random demand and sudden failure of an enterprise in the supply chain and further analyze the impact of carbon tax policy on supply chain decision-making. This article investigates an observer-based robust model predictive control (RMPC) design to control the uncertain discrete-time linear systems with disturbances. To make a more practical scheme, it is supposed that the uncertain system has been faced with unknown disturbance and input constraints. The proposed RMPC approach is based on a state feedback control design that ensures the H ∞ performance criterion to attenuate disturbance affections. Furthermore, in view of practical application, the control law is constructed based on the estimated states obtained from the Luenberger observer. Based on Lyapunov's theory, the input to state practically stability (ISPS) of the closed-loop system is ensured. Appropriate conditions for the ISPS of the closed-loop system and the estimation error are obtained in terms of online linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which lead to obtaining the time-varying gain matrices of both controller and observer. Finally, to validate the obtained results, the proposed approach is applied to a numerical example and it is compared with the existing control scheme and the superiority is proved. The operation of the three-phase standalone inverter is affected by many factors, such as heavy changes in load, unbalanced loads, nonlinear loads, system uncertainties and external disturbances. These are critical weaknesses for the control system of the three-phase inverter to reach robust optimal performance. This paper proposes an adaptive optimal sliding mode control (AOSMC) scheme for a three-phase nonlinear uncertain inverter. This AOSMC strategy solves the problems of nonlinear optimization by adaptive dynamic programming, one of the techniques of reinforcement learning, and overcomes the uncertainties and disturbance effects by a disturbance observer–based sliding mode controller. This algorithm uses only one neural network to approximate the critic; therefore, the burden of computation is significantly reduced. Both the weight matrix of the critic network and the disturbance observer are asymptotically stable. The overall system is guaranteed to be ultimately uniformly bounded stable via Lyapunov stable theory. The simulation is conducted to validate the insensitivity of the proposed AOSMC algorithm to working conditions. The main advantage of Transmission Switching (TS) is decreasing the cost function in a power system. Using TS requires a high number of transmission switching in the system, which can cause some problems in the long run. These problems include decreased lifetime and failure of circuit breakers (CBs), higher repair and maintenance costs, line outage, increased probability of load shedding, and lower reliability of the system. In this paper, congestion management is utilized in the unit commitment problem constrained to the security with the TS to decrease the number of switching. This methodology will resolve the mentioned problems and improve the overall security of the system. Besides, a grid-connected water-power package is suggested to make relaxation for the line congestion which results in the alleviation of the transmission switching. The proposed water-power system is restructured regarding the fuel cell based renewable resource considering the hydrogen tank. Indeed, such a restructured system utilizes the water grid to generate the hydrogen and then power with the aim of linking the electrical grid. Also, on the account of being uncertain of some parameters coming in the electrical grid, an uncertainty-based UT function is addressed to handle uncertainty impacts on the grid's performance. To make awareness-raising, we carry out an outage of the generators as a different contingency scenario of the problem. Finally, the introduced model is testified on two 6-bus and 118-bus grids and solved by Bender's decomposition method. The simulations are performed in GAMS software to confirm the introduced approach effectiveness. Continual illness uncertainty can affect how people perceive and interpret their well-being. Some cognitive and spiritual factors may be involved in the management of disruptive thoughts and emotions that can emerge during the experience of cancer. An evidence-based integrative model was developed to evaluate and show the role that mindfulness, acceptance, self-efficacy, uncertainty, meaning, and purpose in life play in the self-perception of well-being in individuals with cancer. This evidence-based integrative model was conducted using relevant and selected studies. An integrative model for self-perception of well-being has been proposed. This model integrates evidence-based findings and provides clear principles for clinicians and researchers. This integrative model proposes that mindfulness, acceptance, self-efficacy perception, and uncertainty can predict how people with cancer perceive their well-being. The model also posits that meaning and purpose in life can act as mediators or moderators of this prediction. This integrative model involves the multidimensionality of human beings and facilitates the understanding of some key factors for the design of therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy or Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy. Mindfulness, acceptance, self-efficacy, uncertainty, meaning, and purpose in life can be highly relevant for clinical oncology. An integrative model is proposed to understand the combined influence of these factors on patients with cancer. Background: Laparoscopic treatment has been increasingly adopted for giant hepatic hemangioma (HH), but the role of liver resection or enucleation remains uncertain. The aim of this study is to compare the laparoscopic resection (LR) with laparoscopic enucleation (LE) for HH, and to provide evidence on how to choose the most suitable approach for HH. Methods: A retrospective analysis of HH patients underwent laparoscopic treatment between March 2015 and August 2022 was performed. Perioperative outcomes were compared based on the surgical approaches, and risk factors for increased blood loss was calculated by logistic regression analysis. Results: A total of 127 patients in LR group and 287 patients in LE group were enrolled in this study. The median blood loss (300 vs. 200 mL, P < 0.001) was higher in LE group than that in LR group. Independent risk factors for blood loss higher than 400 mL were tumor size ≥ 10 cm, tumor adjacent to major vessels, tumor occupying right liver or caudate lobe, and the portal phase enhancement ratio (PER) ≥ 38.9%, respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that LR was associated with less blood loss (155 vs. 400 mL, P < 0.001) than LE procedure in patients with high PER value. Both LR and LE approaches exhibited similar perioperative outcomes in patients with low PER value. Conclusions: Laparoscopic treatment for HH could be feasibly and safely performed by both LE and LR. Entrepreneurs have to price their innovations under the unpredictability of customers' reactions. While predictive pricing methods are prevalent in business-to-business pricing literature, we argue for the critical importance of control-oriented pricing strategies for digital services. By applying effectuation theory, our study investigates how entrepreneurs co-create their pricing strategies for their digital services as a co-evolutionary, iterative process with their customers. We found that pricing is the co-evolutionary process where entrepreneurs learn from their interactions with customers and use this knowledge to develop and improve their pricing practices further. The findings contribute to behavioural pricing literature by explaining pricing strategy formation as a co-creative process that focuses on interactions rather than predictive actions. Purpose: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is prevalent worldwide and considered a crucial issue regarding women's health. In the present study, the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2019 dataset was utilized to assess the distributional trends in PMS burden and prevalence in regional, national, and sociodemographic index (SDI) categories. Methods: The analytical methods and approaches used in the 2019 GBD study were adopted to investigate the incidence rates and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) related to PMS in 204 countries or regions. Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR), 95% uncertainty intervals (95% UI), and annual percentage changes (EAPC) were calculated from the data. Results: The global incidence and disability-adjusted life years of PMS exhibited a declining trend in the year 2019. Regions with medium–low SDI had the greatest burden of PMS, with the regions of South Asia (ASR = 7337.9 per 10,000) exhibiting the greatest Age-standardized incidence rates, while the high-income North American states presented the fastest upward trends in Age-standardized disability-adjusted life year rates. At the national level, 107 nations exhibited a decreasing trend in PMS incidence ASR, while 97 nations exhibited an increasing trend, with the United States presenting the greatest increase. Conclusions: The present study highlighted that even though the global PMS incidence and disability-adjusted life years have decreased from the year 1990 to 2019, PMS remains a prevalent health concern for women worldwide. While addressing preventive measures and treatment, it is also important to consider the regional and national differences in PMS to develop further effective and targeted health policies. Active patient participation is an important factor in optimizing post-stroke recovery, yet it is often low, regardless of stroke severity. The reasons behind this trend are unclear. To explore how people who have suffered a stroke, perceive the transition from independence to dependence and whether their role in post-stroke rehabilitation influences active participation. In-depth interviews with 17 people who have had a stroke. Data were analyzed using systematic text condensation informed by the concept of autonomy from enactive theory. Two categories emerged. The first captures how the stroke and the resultant hospital admission produces a shift from being an autonomous subject to "an object on an assembly line." Protocol-based investigations, inactivity, and a lack of patient involvement predominantly determine the hospital context. The second category illuminates how people who have survived a stroke passively adapt to the hospital system, a behavior that stands in contrast to the participatory enablement facilitated by community. Patients feel more prepared for the transition home after in-patient rehabilitation rather than following direct discharge from hospital. Bodily changes, the traditional patient role, and the hospital context collectively exacerbate a reduction of individual autonomy. Thus, an interactive partnership between people who survived a stroke and multidisciplinary professionals may strengthen autonomy and promote participation after a stroke. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and neoplasms have been considered as public health concerns worldwide. This study aimed to estimate the epidemiological patterns of death burden on CVDs and neoplasms and its attributable risk factors in Western Europe from 1990 to 2019 to discuss the potential causes of the disparities. We collected data on CVDs and neoplasms deaths in 24 Western European countries from the Global Burden of Disease Study. We analyzed patterns by age, sex, country, and associated risk factors. The results include percentages of total deaths, age-standardized death rates per 100,000 population, and uncertainty intervals (UIs). Time trends were assessed using annual percent change. In 2019, CVDs and neoplasms accounted for 33.54% and 30.15% of Western Europe's total deaths, with age-standardized death rates of 128.05 (95% UI: 135.37, 113.02) and 137.51 (95% UI: 142.54, 128.01) per 100,000. Over 1990–2019, CVDs rates decreased by 54.97%, and neoplasms rates decreased by 19.54%. Top CVDs subtypes were ischemic heart disease and stroke; top cancers for neoplasms were lung and colorectal. Highest CVD death burdens were in Finland, Greece, Austria; neoplasm burdens in Monaco, San Marino, Andorra. The major risk factors were metabolic (CVDs) and behavioral (neoplasms). Gender differences revealed higher CVDs death burden in males, while neoplasms burden varied by risk factors and age groups. In 2019, CVDs and neoplasms posed significant health risks in Western Europe, with variations in death burdens and risk factors across genders, age groups, and countries. Background: Users of dietetic services have unmet spiritual needs, although no study has yet explored dietitians' opinion, perceptions or experience of assessing spiritual needs and delivering spiritual care in clinical practice. Methods: A cross‐sectional survey assessed the role of UK dietitians in spiritual care. Results: Thirty‐seven practicing dietitians, with experience ranging from newly qualified to over 21 years of practice, took part in the survey containing open and closed questions. Almost half (49%) of dietitians said they always conducted spiritual assessments and most (57%) said they sometimes made a referral for spiritual concerns. When spiritual issues arose, dietitians were highly likely to listen well (score 4.6 out of 5) and encourage service users in their own (the service user) spiritual or religious practices (score 4 out of 5). However, the likelihood of taking the initiative and enquiring about religious and spiritual issues was lower (score <3 out of 5) in all areas of practice including end of life care. This may have been because confidence around spiritual care was also low (score 4.7 out of 10), uncertainty was high (score >3.5 out of 5) and there was a strong desire to receive training (>4 out of 5). Qualitative responses expanded further on these results suggesting that there was positive "intention" to provide spiritual care, but lack of training was a significant barrier (qualitative theme: "inadequacies"). The recognition of necessity but uncertainty of how to meet spiritual needs was also shown through qualitative findings to be a source of "emotional labour", particularly where there were conflicting beliefs between a dietitian and service user. Conclusions: Although limited by a small sample size, these results provide new knowledge that spiritual care is considered an important part of the dietitians' role and that this is the case regardless of the dietitians own spiritual identity or religion. Dietitians would value training in spiritual care so that they can support service user needs more readily and confidently. Identifying governing equations from data and solving them to acquire spatio-temporal responses is desirable, yet highly challenging, for many practical problems. Data-driven modelling has shown significant potential to influence knowledge discovery in complex geotechnical processes. To demonstrate feasibility, in this study a physics-informed data-driven approach is developed to automatically recover Terzaghi's consolidation theory from measured data and obtain the corresponding solutions. This process incorporates several algorithms including sparse regression and prior information-based neural network (PiNet), transformed weak-form partial differential equations (PDEs) (to reduce sensitivity to noisy measurement) and Monte Carlo dropout to achieve a measure of prediction uncertainty. The results indicate that consolidation PDEs can be accurately extracted using the proposed approach, which is also shown to be robust to noisy measurements. PDEs solved by PiNet are also shown to provide excellent agreement with actual results, thus highlighting its potential for inverse analysis. The proposed approach is generic and provides an auxiliary method to verify heuristic interpretations of data or to directly identify patterns and obtain solutions without the need for expert intervention. In an age of 'radical uncertainty,' state capacity proves critical for countries to contain 'wicked crises' and improve the resilience of societies. At the same time, authoritarian populism has come to dominate politics in several countries. The impact of populist leadership on state capacity, however, remains an under-researched theme. We explore how populist rule has impeded effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic by weakening state capacity. We compare Brazil and Turkey as cases with similar degrees of state capacity but diverging pandemic management performance. We also examine South Korea as a benchmark case combining high state capacity and effective leadership. We show that state capacity is central in managing 'wicked crises,' but populist leadership undermines it through a set of mechanisms. Hispanic women who experience intimate partner violence (IPV) face unique disparities. They have poorer health outcomes and are less likely to seek help than their non-Hispanic counterparts. When women remain in relationships where IPV occurs and refuse to disclose or seek treatment, they may resort to self-silencing, which can also worsen health outcomes. The purpose of this study was to develop a theory that explains how self-silencing evolves among Hispanic women who experience IPV. Participants were recruited from two research studies focused on Hispanic women's health, and from snowball sampling, which involved referrals by previously registered participants. Data were collected via Zoom® and included individual interviews. A total of 25 women participated in this study. Analysis followed constructive grounded theory levels of analysis described by Charmaz and constant comparative methods described by Glaser and Strauss. A grounded theory entitled Bearing (Aguantando) With Intimate Partner Violence emerged from the data. The theory explains the main strategy Hispanic women use to deal with violence while remaining in a relationship where IPV occurs. The theory is constructed of four categories with subcategories. The results of this study provide an initial framework to understand the self-silencing process among Hispanic women who experience IPV. In addition, this study identifies different levels of interventions that can be useful for researchers and healthcare providers to promote Hispanic women's ability to become empowered, use their voices, and seek help. The first step in the hazard or risk assessment of chemicals should be to formulate the problem through a systematic and iterative process aimed at identifying and defining factors critical to the assessment. However, no general agreement exists on what components an in silico toxicology problem formulation (PF) should include. The present work aims to develop a PF framework relevant to the application of in silico models for chemical toxicity prediction. We modified and applied a PF framework from the general risk assessment literature to peer reviewed papers describing PFs associated with in silico toxicology models. Important gaps between the general risk assessment literature and the analyzed PF literature associated with in silico toxicology methods were identified. While the former emphasizes the need for PFs to address higher-level conceptual questions, the latter does not. There is also little consistency in the latter regarding the PF components addressed, reinforcing the need for a PF framework that enable users of in silico toxicology models to answer the central conceptual questions aimed at defining components critical to the model application. Using the developed framework, we highlight potential areas of uncertainty manifestation in in silico toxicology PF in instances where particular components are missing or implicitly described. The framework represents the next step in standardizing in silico toxicology PF component. Trauma‐informed care has emerged as a prominent strategy to eliminate coercive practices and improve experiences of care in mental health settings, with advocacy from international bodies for mental health reform. Despite this, there remains a significant gap in research understanding the integration of trauma‐informed care in mental health nursing practice, particularly when applied to the acute mental health or hospital‐based setting. The study aimed to explore the experiences of mental health nurses employed in acute hospital‐based settings from a trauma‐informed care perspective. The study design was qualitative, using a phenomenological approach to research. A total of 29 nurses employed in acute mental health or hospital‐based environments participated. Three over‐arching themes were uncovered: 'Embodied Awareness': highlighting mental health nursing emotional capabilities are deeply rooted in bodily awareness. 'Navigating Safety': signifying spatial elements of fear and how some mental health nurses' resort to coercive or restrictive practices for self‐preservation. 'Caring Amidst Uncertainty': revealing the relational influences of security guards in mental health nursing. The study reveals a significant gap in trauma‐informed care implementation when applied to the context of mental health nursing practice in this setting. Limited evidence on trauma‐informed care for mental health nurses, coupled with inadequate workforce preparation and challenging work environments, hinder the effective integration of it. The aerospace sector is evolving due to reduced launch costs and standardization of small satellite platforms. This research, aligned with European Guidelines for Thermo-Elastic Verification, addresses the pointing precision gap in small satellites by assessing space telescope performance using uncertainty propagation in thermo-elastic models. The methodology will be directly applied to an Earth observation space telescope, VINIS, currently under development by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC). This procedure helps to identify key design elements impacting its functionality. Thirteen elements were identified as main contributors to the deformations in the optical bench. Due to the bench's crucial role in the telescope's performance, this paper also explores how results vary with different sandwich panel modelling techniques and the enhancements from design modifications. Recent evidence suggests that individuals living with chronic pain demonstrate reduced tolerance of uncertainty compared to healthy individuals. Intolerance of uncertainty often lead to excessive worry, which may be related not only to the tendency to catastrophize pain, but also to increased distress. However, the specific nature of these relationships remains largely unexplored. The present study sought to investigate the associations between intolerance of uncertainty, pain catastrophizing, and symptoms of depression, while exploring how they differ between adults with and without chronic pain. Questionnaires were administered electronically to a community sample of 160 adults. All variables were significantly and positively correlated in the chronic pain group (n = 80), while only intolerance of uncertainty and symptoms of depression were positively and strongly correlated in the pain-free group (n = 80). Individuals in the chronic pain group reported higher levels of pain catastrophizing and symptoms of depression compared to the pain-free group, but both groups exhibited similar levels of intolerance of uncertainty. Intolerance of uncertainty and pain catastrophizing were significant predictors of the severity of depression in both groups, even after controlling for age and gender. However, intolerance of uncertainty was no longer statistically significant in the chronic pain group once pain catastrophizing was considered. These findings suggest that intolerance of uncertainty serves as a general vulnerability factor for psychological distress in adults, while pain catastrophizing acts as a specific vulnerability factor for individuals living with chronic pain. The paper presents a framework for school guidance in the twenty-first century that focuses the guidance approach, on promoting lifelong learning and takes into account the impact of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity). It outlines the goals, objectives, and key players involved in guidance approach and provides a structured approach based on six levels: actors, devices, practices, main issues, objectives, and general aim. Four types of practices are defined to address four main societal objectives, which are linked to current challenges facing society. Problem: Inconsistent practice relating to intrapartum hydration assessment and management is reported, and potential harm exists for laboring women and birthing persons. Background: Labor and birth are physically demanding, and adequate nutrition and hydration are essential for labor progress. A lack of clear consensus on intrapartum hydration assessment and management during labor and birth currently exists. In addition, there is an inconsistent approach to managing hydration, often including a mixture of intravenous and oral fluids that are poorly monitored. Aim: The aim of this scoping review was to identify and collate evidence‐based guidelines for intrapartum hydration assessment and management of maternal hydration during labor and birth. Methods: PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL databases were searched, in addition to professional college association websites. Inclusion criteria were intrapartum clinical guidelines in English, published in the last 10 years. Findings: Despite searching all appropriate databases in maternity care, we were unable to identify evidence‐based guidelines specific to hydration assessment and management, therefore resulting in an "empty review." A subsequent review of general intrapartum care guidelines was undertaken. Our adapted review identified 12 guidelines, seven of which referenced the assessment and management of maternal hydration during labor and birth. Three guidelines recommend that "low‐risk" women in spontaneous labor at term should hold determination over what they ingest in labor. No recommendations with respect to assessment and management of hydration for women undergoing induction of labor were found. Discussion: Despite the increasing use of intravenous fluid as an adjunct to oral intake to maintain maternal intrapartum hydration, there is limited evidence and, subsequently, guidelines to determine best practice in this area. How hydration is assessed was also largely absent from general intrapartum care guidelines, further perpetuating potential clinical variation in this area. Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) is a risk factor for poor mental health. Acquired brain injury (ABI; for example, stroke, traumatic brain injury) often brings considerable uncertainty and increased mood disorder vulnerability. The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale–Short Form (IUS-12) is a brief, well-validated IU measure in non-ABI samples, comprising two subscales, namely, Prospective Anxiety and Inhibitory Anxiety. Here, for the first time, we investigated its reliability and validity (N = 118), and factor structure (N = 176), in ABI. Both subscales had high test–retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients [ICCs] of.75 and.86) and were significantly associated with mood disorder symptoms. The two-factor model was superior to a one-factor IU model fit. Some fit statistics were less than optimal (standardized root mean square residual [SRMR] = 0.06, root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA] = 0.09); hence, exploration of other factor structures in other ABI samples may be warranted. Although parallel analysis has been found to be an accurate method for determining the number of factors in many conditions with complete data, its application under missing data is limited. The existing literature recommends that, after using an appropriate multiple imputation method, researchers either apply parallel analysis to every imputed data set and use the number of factors suggested by most of the data copies or average the correlation matrices across all data copies, followed by applying the parallel analysis to the average correlation matrix. Both approaches for pooling the results provide a single suggested number without reflecting the uncertainty introduced by missing values. The present study proposes the use of an alternative approach, which calculates the proportion of imputed data sets that result in k (k = 1, 2, 3...) factors. This approach will inform applied researchers of the degree of uncertainty due to the missingness. Results from a simulation experiment show that the proposed method can more likely suggest the correct number of factors when missingness contributes to a large amount of uncertainty. Guided by Brashers's uncertainty management theory, the purpose of this study was to better understand the experience of family caregivers utilizing Medicaid waivers to subsidize health care for children with disabilities. Specifically, the focus of this study was to explore caregivers' experience with Kentucky's Michelle P. Waiver (MPW), a Medicaid waiver that provides robust benefit offerings to children with disabilities. Little is known about how parents come to know about the waiver, and the communication challenges they experience when applying for and navigating their child's health care through Medicaid. Data were gathered by narratively interviewing 31 parents of children who are currently receiving services through the MPW. Data were analyzed using narrative thematic analysis. The analysis focused on the community-level communication that contributes to parent caregivers' uncertainty about the MPW system. Findings show that parents experience unique personal, social, and medical uncertainties related to the MPW when navigating care for their child in the community. This project contributes to the health communication literature theoretically by expanding the conceptualization of the uncertainty in illness framework to include the means of health care (i.e. Medicaid) as a consequential element of an individual's illness experience. Despite the recommendations for COVID-19 preventive health behaviors, it continues to increase alarmingly. This study examined how media coverage, myths, political leaders, and community leaders influence the attitudes and misconceptions about COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination uptake in the Mississippi Delta region. This qualitative study employed focus group discussions (FDGs) with representatives from three rural counties in the Mississippi Delta. A thematic analysis approach was used for data analysis. Participants were aware of how COVID-19 is transmitted, the preventative measures that can be used to mitigate the spread of the virus, and misconceptions and beliefs that lingered in their communities. Participants were uncertain about the need for the COVID-19 vaccine in terms of perceived risks (e.g., side effects, efficacy, and safety) and its novelty. Participants also discussed a wide range of COVID-19 misinformation that resulted in distress and distrust of the vaccine and health behavior recommendations. There are varying misconceptions and beliefs about COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccine among communities in the rural Mississippi Delta. Thus, multi-sectoral collaborations between agencies that can use risk communication frameworks to deliver accurate health information that can resolve misinformation about COVID-19 in rural communities are needed. Objectives: In this study, we expand on the existing work on daily performance by focusing on (1) within‐person fluctuation in perceived manager effectiveness in relation to daily positive affective experiences and daily performance and (2) between‐person fluctuations in uncertainty as a relevant boundary condition of these relationships. Methods: Multilevel data from 101 managers (1,010 measurement occasions) were used to test the hypotheses. Results: The results showed that fluctuations in the perception of a manager's effectiveness related positively to daily positive affective experiences, and this relationship was moderated by the team member's uncertainty levels in such a way that perceived uncertainty buffered the positive effect of leadership effectiveness on positive affective experiences. Further, the findings evidenced a positive association between daily positive affective experiences and daily performance. Finally, results showed a significant indirect effect from perceived manager's effectiveness to daily fluctuations in performance via daily fluctuations in positive affective experiences. Conclusions: Perceived manager's effectiveness made employees feel more positive affective experiences, which contributed to their daily performance. Background: Disrupted metacognition is implicated in development and maintenance of negative symptoms, but more fine‐grained analyses would inform precise treatment targeting for individual negative symptoms. Aims: This systematic review identifies and examines datasets that test whether specific metacognitive capacities distinctly influence negative symptoms. Materials & Methods: PsycINFO, EMBASE, Medline and Cochrane Library databases plus hand searching of relevant articles, journals and grey literature identified quantitative research investigating negative symptoms and metacognition in adults aged 16+ with psychosis. Authors of included articles were contacted to identify unique datasets and missing information. Data were extracted for a risk of bias assessment using the Quality in Prognostic Studies tool. Results: 85 published reports met criteria and are estimated to reflect 32 distinct datasets and 1623 unique participants. The data indicated uncertainty about the relationship between summed scores of negative symptoms and domains of metacognition, with significant findings indicating correlation coefficients from 0.88 to −0.23. Only eight studies investigated the relationship between metacognition and individual negative symptoms, with mixed findings. Studies were mostly moderate‐to‐low risk of bias. Discussion: The relationship between negative symptoms and metacognition is rarely the focus of studies reviewed here, and negative symptom scores are often summed. This approach may obscure relationships between metacognitive domains and individual negative symptoms which may be important for understanding how negative symptoms are developed and maintained. Conlclusion: Methodological challenges around overlapping participants, variation in aggregation of negative symptom items and types of analyses used, make a strong case for use of Individual Participant Data Meta‐Analysis to further elucidate these relationships. This paper addresses the problems of passivity and robust passivity for a class of stochastic switched inertial neural networks (SSINNs) with time‐varying parametric uncertainties. First, the original inertial neural networks can be converted into first‐order differential systems using a suitable variable transformation approach. Moreover, by using a proper Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional (LKF) theory, Jensen's inequality, and the state‐dependent switching (SDS) law approach, several adequate criteria are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to ensure passivity and robust passivity analysis of SSINNs with parametric uncertainties and time‐varying delays. It is demonstrated that the developed SDS law may guarantee the passivity requirements of the above‐considered system made up of all unstable subnetworks. Furthermore, the gains are obtained by solving a set of LMIs that can be easily verified by some standard numerical packages. Spiritual well-being is a phenomenon that enhances the quality of life and acts as a protective factor against stress and negative emotions. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether childhood psychological maltreatment is related to spiritual well-being and whether intolerance of uncertainty and emotion regulation serially mediate this relationship. The study sample comprised 330 participants aged between 18 and 55 years from 46 out of the 81 cities in Türkiye. The study participants completed the Psychological Maltreatment Questionnaire, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Emotion Regulation Scale, and Spiritual Well-Being Scale, a scale derived from the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being that measures spiritual well-being by using the conceptualization of meaning and peace. The data obtained were analyzed using a two-step structural equation modeling approach, which indicated that childhood psychological maltreatment has an association with spiritual well-being, and this relationship is mediated by both intolerance of uncertainty and emotion regulation. Floods are one of the most dangerous natural disasters that humanity has ever faced. In this study, a modified version of D number technique as a suitable form of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches was proposed to prioritize flooding in the Sad-Kalan watershed of Iran using some flood related criteria. The proposed method can overcome some shortcomings and uncertainties of the existing MCDM methods. In order to evaluate the performance of the method regarding flood prioritization, its results were compared with the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique as mostly frequently used MCDM method. The findings demonstrate that the modified version of D number method provides better results than AHP method. In spite of inherent advantages of D number method, the advantages of the proposed method in relation to existing MCDM are as follows: 1- considering the local and global importance of used criteria, 2- reducing the uncertainty in decision makers' judgments using employing the concept of Picture fuzzy-AHP, 3- considering the degree of consistency in evaluation of decision makers into calculations. The determination of actual evapotranspiration (ET) plays a crucial role in hydrological modelling; however, it is subject to multiple sources of uncertainty. Sophisticated energy-based methods, such as METRIC, may lead to varying results based on different initial and boundary conditions. In this study, the relationship between groundwater withdrawal and the uncertainty effects of ET was explored by incorporating the uncertainty of the calculated ET values through an ensemble-based implementation of the METRIC model into the comprehensive interval-based water balance model, which includes surface and groundwater modules developed in terms of gray value model. The developed interval of ET is based on 20 members with different hot/cold pixels to provide interval-based monthly ET values. The study area is the Ghorveh–Dehgolan basin, a developed and mountainous sub-basin of the Sefidrood watershed with three alluvial aquifers in Northern Iran. The paradigm shift from deterministic hydrological structure to interval-based hydrologic structure improved the statistical metrics of the model responses, such as the streamflow KGE metric of the calibration and validation datasets, which improved from (0.5, 0.18) to (0.57, 0.49), respectively. Additionally, the proposed approach decreased the uncertainty level tied to the simulated streamflow and groundwater levels. This systematic literature review presents an interdisciplinary overview of theories tested in experiments on the effects of communicating uncertainty. Using a machine learning-aided pipeline, we selected and manually coded 413 experimental studies. We discuss core assumptions and predictions of the main theories of uncertainty communication. Most normative theorizing (e.g., Bayesianism, Expected Utility Theory) is rooted in Probability Theory, which is only suitable for addressing shallow and medium uncertainty. This explains the underrepresentation of experimental research into deep uncertainty communication. Objective: To explore the treatment experiences of those diagnosed with large to massive rotator cuff tears and the perspectives of healthcare practitioners providing their care. Design: A qualitative descriptive study using reflexive thematic analysis. Setting: In-person focus groups were undertaken in a clinical setting (private practice [ n = 1]; public outpatient [ n = 2]). Semi-structured interviews were conducted online via Microsoft Teams. Participants: Patients diagnosed with these tears (n = 12) and healthcare practitioners (n = 11). Results: Two interlinking themes were identified based on the care received and provided for patients with symptomatic large to massive rotator cuff tears: 1) Positive treatment experiences and management: Education, clear communication and reassurance around prognosis were the foundation of positive patient–clinician care. Sub-themes of pain relief, exercise prescription and confidence in their pathway underpinned this experience. This proficiency in care was affirmed by some healthcare practitioners who spoke about the importance of confidence and experience in their management plan even in times of poor progress. 2) Negative treatment experiences and management: Uncertainty, delays and exacerbation of pain flawed the patient–clinician care. Sub-themes of inappropriate pain relief, inappropriate exercise prescription and uncertainty impacted their care. Some healthcare practitioners acknowledged knowledge gaps led to uncertainty especially when choosing the next step of care and were quick to escalate care to deflect this uncertainty. Conclusions: The findings suggest discordance exists between the patient's experiences and expectations when the delivery of care was by less experienced and confident healthcare practitioners in the management of this condition. This research emphasizes the role of employees in managing their experiences of successful ageing at work. Following a lifespan developmental framework, we propose a new model in which employees, who proactively engage in cognitive job crafting and work uncertainty regulation, are more effective in altering their perceptions of remaining time at work. This, in turn, enhances their experiences of successful ageing in the workplace (i.e. the likelihood to sustain longer, healthier and more productive working lives). We test the conceptual model in two consecutive studies with workers from the United States of America (Study 1) and China (Study 2). The results replicate across the two studies, confirming the indirect positive effect of cognitive crafting on successful ageing at work through perceived remaining time at work. In addition, in Study 2, we find that the effect of cognitive crafting on perceived remaining time at work is stronger for employees with higher (vs. lower) levels of work certainty. Finally, work predictability indirectly moderates the relationship between cognitive crafting and perceived remaining time at work via work certainty. These findings offer important theoretical insights into the fields of work and ageing, job design and uncertainty regulation and provide the evidence base for building capacity, improving organizational practice and policymaking on active ageing at work and beyond. This study elucidates the impact of reflexive-learning-based leadership development on promoting collective reflexivity, navigating its implications for organizational leadership and structures in innovation. A reflexive-learning-based leadership development program is a set of collective actions comprising four fundamental steps: acknowledging problems, reassessing assumptions, thinking of alternatives, and developing new perspectives. This study demonstrates its effectiveness in developing collective reflexivity within an engineering organization by repurposing the After-Action Review (AAR) as reflexive learning training. The findings underscore reflexive learning, making leaders exhibit the traits of ambiguity tolerance and interdisciplinary knowledge that favor innovation. This research contributes to an academic framework, opening avenues for future investigations into organizational development from a reflexive perspective and providing a proven managerial practice to improvise an effective solution to overcome those uncertainties in real-world innovations. In this paper, a novel damped conformable fractional accumulation operator with two parameters are proposed to have control of both accumulation generation and new information involvement. The new accumulation can be adjusted from linear approximation to high order accumulation. A structure adaptive grey Bernoulli model based on proposed accumulation method is established, with the parameters optimized by particle swarm optimization algorithm. For testifying the effectiveness and the robustness of the model, two validation cases and two application cases are used to build the prediction model of diverse series with unexpected trends or fluctuations in energy fields. Compared with other existing fractional grey models and non-grey models, the proposed model has best prediction accuracy, better model stability and greatly improved applicability. The global coal consumption by industry is predicted as 30.85×106 TJ in 2025 and 30.81×106 TJ in 2026. We propose inviting the body into the university writing process through somatic pedagogical practices. This study investigates an effort to write from our body and through our body in a course where students used the body as a site of creation. Challenging mind-body dualism and the erasure of bodily ways of knowing, students participated in Feldenkrais exercises to enhance awareness through movement by heightening habitual perception. Subsequently, students’ writing revealed increased admittance of uncertainty and reflexive engagement. They reflected on their own positionalities while considering the perspectives of hypothetical others, invoking augmented senses of social responsibility. In essence, they transferred physically experienced agency through functional movement to personal agency within hierarchical systems of power. This study suggests that somatic pedagogical interventions have the potential to activate reflexivity, foregrounding causal relations that begin with self-guided, felt realities in the body. Due to environmental concerns associated with conventional energy production, the use of renewable energy sources (RES) has rapidly increased in power systems worldwide, with photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbine (WT) technologies being the most frequently integrated. This study proposes a modified Bald Eagle Search Optimization Algorithm (LBES) to enhance the performance of the conventional BES optimizer and optimize the size and location of RES-based Distribution Generation (DG) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in distribution systems (DS) to minimize power and energy losses. The modified BES algorithm enhances the exploration phase by utilizing both crossover and mutation techniques with the top three leaders. Moreover, a loss sensitivity factor (LSF) is applied to expedite the solution process by identifying appropriate candidate buses. The variability of solar irradiation and wind speed is modeled using Weibull and Beta probability distribution functions (PDF). To address issues related to high penetration of renewables and demand fluctuations, BESS is used to improve power supply continuity and mitigate fluctuations. The suggested approach is tested on typical 33- and 118-bus systems and compared to alternative methods. The results show significant reduction in energy losses (49.32%, 67.82%, and 64.89% for the 33-bus system and 41.9157%, 60.3766%, and 54.8317% for the 118-bus system) when integrating PV, WT-based DG, and PV + BESS units into the DS. A robust two-stage problem of selecting a single minimum cost representative out of n candidates is studied. Each candidate is associated with an uncertain cost that is described by a lower bound and a deviation from it. In the first stage, at most k representatives have to be selected. After that, an adversary distributes the worst costs to all representatives so that the sum of the cost deviation ratios (the uncertainty budget) does not exceed a given upper bound. Computational models are powerful tools to quantify physical phenomena to gain valuable insights into a manufacturing process. Their accuracy is hindered, however, by uncertainty in the input data. Furthermore, when calibrating models with plant measurements, it helps to understand which variables have greatest effect on the critical model outputs. This work applies uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis to determine the most influential input parameters in the CON1D model of heat transfer and solidification in steel continuous casting with slag. Results show that the slag rim greatly affects heat flux near the meniscus, so control of its size is important. Heat flux and temperature down the mold depend greatly on velocity of the solid slag layer, and slag solidification temperature, which control the slag layer thickness, which in turn affects the interfacial resistance that controls heat transfer in the process. Scale formation on the mold coldface greatly increases mold temperatures. Based on the results presented here, models of heat transfer in continuous casting such as CON1D would benefit from plant measurements such as slag rim size and solid slag velocity, and lab measurements such as slag viscosity at lower temperatures, to better characterize this important slag property. The present work aims at investigating the adaptive iterative learning control (AILC) design for uncertain high‐order fully actuated nonlinear systems. In order to show the design principles, three types of nonlinear systems are considered, including systems with just parametric uncertainty, systems with both parametric and input distribution uncertainties as well as systems with both parametric uncertainty and an unknown control gain matrix. For different systems, the corresponding AILC schemes are proposed with different techniques in dealing with various system uncertainties, for which the convergence analysis are conducted rigorously based on the composite energy function. Many practical dynamic models always suffer from complex nonlinearities, parameter uncertainties and random noises. Such kind of models are always characterized by uncertain stochastic nonlinear systems. Besides, many factors will lead to dead‐zone actuator, which further adds more challenges to control engineering. This paper studies stabilization issue of stochastic systems with polynomial nonlinear conditions, unknown parameters and dead‐zone actuator. An adaptive control approach is proposed by exploring homogeneous domination control and using dynamic‐gain‐based adaptive design strategy. A series of three CGSP‐P phosphate matrix reference materials, with variable element mass fractions, were synthesised by co‐precipitation with CaCl2 and (NH4)3PO4 to form a hydroxylapatite matrix. Each powder sample was packaged into multiple bottles and pressed into tablets as replicates. The within‐bottle homogeneity was evaluated by the repeatability of element mass fractions of six spots in per tablet of CGSP‐Ps by LA‐ICP‐MS. For the between‐bottle homogeneity evaluation, one approach adopted the % RSD of element mass fractions in twelve different tablets from twelve bottles in the same reference material in comparison with the repeatability field of LA‐ICP‐MS analyses obtained from homogeneous glasses, and the other used a one‐way analysis of variance (ANOVA) approach. Most of the elements (e.g., Mg, Ca, P, Mn and REE) were homogenous within 10% RSD, and other elements (e.g., Si, Al, K, Rb, Cs and Ni) were considered heterogeneous (with > 20% RSD). All of the elements passed the t‐test except Ni in CGSP‐P3, and V, Cr, Ni, Zr, Gd, Dy and Th in CGSP‐P4 after a 29‐month period stability examination by LA‐ICP‐MS. The preliminary reference values and standard uncertainties for CGSP‐Ps are given with a network of methods and eight laboratories by bulk analysis according to ISO Guide 35:2006 and JJF 1343‐2012. Background: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) represents a serious chronic condition affecting a wide number of people. Discussion of the physical issues associated with T1DM pervades the literature, however, there is less discussion of the psychological consequences. Mental health difficulties, alexithymia and uncertainty are present in this population, and known to be harmful for the onset, maintenance and worsening of T1DM. This study aimed to evaluate the presence of these phenomena in people with T1DM. Methods: 105 participants aged between 11 and 17 years old (M: 13.88; SD: 2.16) affected by T1DM were included in the sample. To assess the presence of mental health difficulties, SAFA scales (Depression, Anxiety and Somatic symptoms) were included in the protocol together with TAS-20 and IUS-12, which evaluate the presence and role of alexithymia and intolerance to uncertainty in the sample, respectively. Results: A concerning presence of anxiety, depression and somatic symptoms was found in the sample. Mental health difficulties appeared to be consistently present in the sample, often overcoming pathological thesholds. Alexithymia and uncertainty were also common, highlighting their role in T1DM. Conclusions: Active mental health difficulties together with high rates of alexithymia and intolerance to uncertainty were prevalent in the sample of adolescents with diabetes. The load history exerts a considerable impact on the low cycle fatigue (LCF) life of turbine discs. Thus, oversimplifying the load history leads to substantial errors in fatigue life prediction. This study introduces a probabilistic fatigue life prediction method for turbine discs, accounting for the randomness inherent in LCF load history. The method involves quantifying the randomness of load history through numerical simulation and employing a surrogate model enhanced with learning functions to balance computational efficiency and accuracy. The probabilistic LCF life prediction of full‐scale turbine disc was conducted, demonstrating that the fatigue life scatter predicted by the proposed method more closely aligns with experimental data compared to the original approach. By refining the numerical simulation process, the proposed method better accounts for uncertainties in load history while maintaining computational efficiency, offering significant insights for the fatigue reliability design of turbine discs. Background Neglected tropical diseases are responsible for considerable morbidity and mortality in low-income populations. International efforts have reduced their global burden, but transmission is persistent and case-finding-based interventions rarely target asymptomatic individuals. Methods We develop a generic mathematical modeling framework for analyzing the dynamics of visceral leishmaniasis in the Indian sub-continent (VL), gambiense sleeping sickness (gHAT), and Chagas disease and use it to assess the possible contribution of asymptomatics who later develop disease (pre-symptomatics) and those who do not (non-symptomatics) to the maintenance of infection. Plausible interventions, including active screening, vector control, and reduced time to detection, are simulated for the three diseases. Results We found that the high asymptomatic contribution to transmission for Chagas and gHAT and the apparently high basic reproductive number of VL may undermine long-term control. However, the ability to treat some asymptomatics for Chagas and gHAT should make them more controllable, albeit over relatively long time periods due to the slow dynamics of these diseases. For VL, the toxicity of available therapeutics means the asymptomatic population cannot currently be treated, but combining treatment of symptomatics and vector control could yield a quick reduction in transmission. Conclusions Despite the uncertainty in natural history, it appears there is already a relatively good toolbox of interventions to eliminate gHAT, and it is likely that Chagas will need improvements to diagnostics and their use to better target pre-symptomatics. The situation for VL is less clear, and model predictions could be improved by additional empirical data. However, interventions may have to improve to successfully eliminate this disease. Background Lymphatic filariasis (LF) is a neglected tropical disease targeted for elimination as a public health problem by 2030. Although mass treatments have led to huge reductions in LF prevalence, some countries or regions may find it difficult to achieve elimination by 2030 owing to various factors, including local differences in transmission. Subnational projections of intervention impact are a useful tool in understanding these dynamics, but correctly characterizing their uncertainty is challenging. Methods We developed a computationally feasible framework for providing subnational projections for LF across 44 sub-Saharan African countries using ensemble models, guided by historical control data, to allow assessment of the role of subnational heterogeneities in global goal achievement. Projected scenarios include ongoing annual treatment from 2018 to 2030, enhanced coverage, and biannual treatment. Results Our projections suggest that progress is likely to continue well. However, highly endemic locations currently deploying strategies with the lower World Health Organization recommended coverage (65%) and frequency (annual) are expected to have slow decreases in prevalence. Increasing intervention frequency or coverage can accelerate progress by up to 5 or 6 years, respectively. Conclusions While projections based on baseline data have limitations, our methodological advancements provide assessments of potential bottlenecks for the global goals for LF arising from subnational heterogeneities. In particular, areas with high baseline prevalence may face challenges in achieving the 2030 goals, extending the "tail" of interventions. Enhancing intervention frequency and/or coverage will accelerate progress.
