Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a resposta de fontes e doses de nitrogenio na produtividade do capim Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu nas condicoes edafoclimaticas dos Tabuleiros Costeiros do Piaui. O trabalho foi conduzido a campo, no periodo de maio a julho de 2013, no Campo Experimental da Embrapa Meio-Norte, localizado no municipio de Parnaiba, Piaui. Os tratamentos foram constituidos da combinacao de duas fontes de nitrogenio (sulfato de amonio e ureia) e tres niveis de nitrogenio 19,56; 39,12 e 58,68 kg/ha/corte correspondendo a 170, 340, 510 kg/ha/ano, segundo o delineamento em blocos ao acaso com tres repeticoes. Foram realizados tres cortes com intervalo de 42 dias. A adubacao nitrogenada influenciou positivamente a produtividade de materia seca total. A relacao folha/colmo e a eficiencia de utilizacao do nitrogenio responderam de forma negativa aos incrementos do nitrogenio.

A erosão provocada pela água no leito e nas margens de estradas não-pavimentadas, está intimamente relacionada à má drenagem. Para que o sistema de drenagem seja feito de forma adequada, o conhecimento da erodibilidade e da tensão crítica de cisalhamento do solo é essencial. Neste sentido, desenvolveu-se um equipamento que permite a simulação do escoamento superficial e o acompanhamento das perdas de solo diretamente no leito ou no canal da estrada, possibilitando a determinação da tensão crítica de cisalhamento e da erodibilidade do solo. O equipamento consiste em um conjunto composto por um reservatório de água, uma caixa de nível constante, uma calha para simulação do escoamento superficial e por um sistema de armazenamento da água escoada e filtragem dos sedimentos erodidos. Com base nos resultados obtidos com o uso do equipamento, constatou-se que este se mostrou satisfatório quanto aos aspectos de instalação, simulação de escoamento e quantificação de perdas para diferentes tensões aplicadas, permitindo a determinação da erodibilidade e da tensão crítica de cisalhamento do solo. No que tange à sua praticidade, o equipamento apresentou aspectos inconvenientes, sobretudo no que se refere à necessidade de mão-de-obra e consumo de água.Water erosion on unpaved roads is directly related with poor drainage. The knowledge of the soil erodibility and critical shear stress is essential for correct design of drainage systems. In this paper equipment was developed which allows to simulate the surface runoff in the road channels and to determine, consequently, the soil erodibility and the critical shear stress for the soil. The equipment consists of a water reservoir, a box to control water level, a channel where the surface runoff simulation is made and a system to store the water and the sediments which are detached by surface runoff. The equipment had a good performance to determine the soil erodibility and the critical shear stress for the soil; however it has inconvenience with respect to labor and the amount of water necessary.

As características da chuva de uma região podem determinar a maior parte dos efeitos danosos da erosão. A variação da intensidade durante a chuva é uma dessas importantes características. Entretanto, pouco se sabe sobre os padrões de chuva ocorrentes no Brasil. Este trabalho teve como objetivos determinar os padrões das chuvas erosivas naturais verificadas em Santa Maria (RS), e estimar o período de retorno das chuvas em três padrões propostos. Pluviogramas diários foram cedidos pela Estação Central Experimental de Silvicultura e Conservação do Solo de Santa Maria, pertencente à Fepagro, compreendendo o período de 1963 a 1989 e 1991 a 1992. As chuvas foram classificadas em padrão avançado, intermediário e atrasado, de acordo com a posição do pico de máxima intensidade e, posteriormente, foi estimado o período de retorno das chuvas para cada padrão. Algumas características de interesse foram calculadas, como a intensidade média dos picos, duração das chuvas e dos picos com intensidade superior a 100 mm h-1. Das 1.193 chuvas erosivas individuais analisadas, os padrões, avançado, interme-diário e atrasado, corresponderam a 551, 295 e 347 chuvas, perfazendo 46,2; 24,7 e 29,1% do total de chuvas, respectivamente. Isso caracteriza o padrão avançado como o padrão de chuvas mais freqüente em Santa Maria. Das 79 chuvas com picos de intensidade superiores a 100 mm h-1, os padrões analisados (avançado, intermediário e atrasado) corresponderam a 45, 18 e 16 chuvas, perfazendo 8,2; 6,1 e 4,6% do total de chuvas, respectivamente. A duração média das chuvas com picos de intensidade superiores a 100 mm h-1 foi de 8 h, e a duração dos picos foi de seis min. e 50 seg. Foram calculados os períodos de retorno de 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 e 100 anos para as durações estudadas e construídas curvas de intensidade, duração e freqüência para os padrões de chuva supracitados. Rainfall characteristics may determine most of the harmful effects of soil erosion. Intensity variation during a rainfall is one of these important rainfall characteristics. However, there is a lack of information about rainfall patterns that occur in Brazil. This research had as objectives the determination of natural erosive rainfalls patterns verified in Santa Maria (RS), and the estimation of rainfall return period for the three patterns proposed. Daily rainfall charts were obtained from the Research Center of Forestry and Soil Conservation, of FEPAGRO, from 1963 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1992. Rainfalls were classified in advanced, intermediary and delayed patterns, according to their maximum intensity peak position and afterwards, the rainfall return period for each rainfall pattern was estimated. Some interesting characteristics were calculated, such as the mean intensity peaks, duration of rainfalls and peaks with intensity over 100 mm h-1. Out of the 1193 natural erosive rainfalls analyzed, the advanced, intermediary and delayed patterns had 551, 295 and 347 rainfalls, corresponding to 46,2; 24,7 and 29,1% of the total number of rainfalls, respectively. This characterizes the advanced pattern as the most frequent rainfall pattern in Santa Maria. From the 79 rainfalls with intensity peak greater than 100 mm h-1, the advanced, intermediary and delayed pattern had 45, 18 and 16 rainfalls, corresponding to 8,2; 6,1 and 4,6% of the total number of rainfalls. The mean duration of rainfalls with peaks greater than 100 mm h-1 was of 8 hours, and mean peak duration was 6 minutes and 50 seconds. For the estimation of return periods, the maximum rainfall amount in 10, 20, 30, 60, 120, 240 and 480 minutes during the 29 years studied were identified, for the three rainfall patterns defined before. The maximum intensity values found for the specified duration were submitted to a computer program, and the extreme distribution type I had the best fit to the data. The return periods of 2, 5, 10, 20 50 and 100 years for the studied rainfall duration were calculated and intensity-duration-frequency curves were built for the three above-mentioned rainfall patterns.

Com o objetivo de avaliar a produtividade dos capins Digitaria sp. e Cynodon dactylon cv. Tifton-85 em diferentes alturas de residuo foi conduzido um experimento, no periodo de abril a junho de 2012, na Embrapa Meio-Norte, localizada no municipio de Parnaiba, Piaui. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados em esquema de parcelas divididas, com cinco repeticoes, tendo nas parcelas as gramineas (Digitaria e Tifton-85) e nas subparcelas as alturas de residuos (10, 20 e 30 cm).

Basal and TRH-stimulated TSH levels were determined in 72 patients with differentiated thyroid cancer on hormonal treatment, using a highly sensitive immunoradiometric assay (IRMAclon, Henning). 43 patients were under treatment with levothyroxine (T4), 29 patients with triiodothyronine (T3). In 33/43 patients (77%) under T4- and in 18/29 patients (62%) under T3-treatment basal TSH levels were below 0.1 mU/l and levels stimulated with 200 µg TRH i.v. were below 0.5 mU/l. 3 patients showed a significant response (to above 0.5 mU/l) in the TRH test despite basal values of less than 0.1 mU/l. In 2 patients with elevated basal TSH levels (0.23 and 0.60 mU/l, resp.) in the IRMAclon, total suppression of TSH secretion was suggested by a failure of TSH to rise after TRH. By retesting these samples in an own TSH IRMA, basal and stimulated TSH values were below 0.1 mU/l. In conclusion, basal and TRH-stimulated TSH levels are well correlated in most patients with thyroid cancer under hormonal treatment. However, in some cases (5/72) determination of basal TSH could not clearly define the degree of thyrotropic suppression. Thus, TRH testing is still necessary to establish definitely complete TSH suppression in patients with thyroid carcinoma under suppressive treatment.
