Background: With the global spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in early 2020, Mongolia implemented rapid emergency measures and did not report local transmission until November 2020. We conducted a national seroprevalence survey to monitor the burden of SARS-CoV-2 in Mongolia in the months surrounding the first local transmission. Methods: During October-December 2020, participants were randomly selected using age stratification and invited for interviews and blood samples at local primary health centres. We screened for total SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, followed by two-step quantitative SARS-CoV-2 IgG serology tests for positive samples. Weighted and test-adjusted seroprevalences were estimated. We used chi-square, Fisher's exact and other tests to identify variables associated with seropositivity. Findings: A total of 5000 subjects were enrolled. We detected SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in 72 samples. Crude seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was 1•44% (95%CI,1•21-1•67). Population weighted and test-adjusted seroprevalences were 1•36% (95%CI,1•11-1•63) and 1•45% (95%CI,1•11-1•63), respectively. Age, sex, geographical, and occupational factors were not associated with seropositivity (p>0•05). Symptoms and signs within past 3 months and seropositivity were not associated at the time of the survey (p>0•05). Interpretation: SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in Mongolia was low in the first year of the pandemic potentially due to strong public health measures, including border restrictions, educational facilities closure, earlier adoption of mask-wearing and others. Our findings suggest large-scale community transmission could not have occurred up to November 2020 in Mongolia. Additional serosurveys are needed to monitor the local pandemic dynamic and estimate how far from herd immunity Mongolia will be following-up with vaccination programme in 2021 and 2022. Migratory animals rely on multiple sites during their annual cycles. Deteriorating conditions at any site can have population-level consequences, with long-distance migrants seen as especially susceptible to such changes. Reduced adult survival caused by persecution at non-breeding sites has been suggested a major reason for the catastrophic decline of a formerly abundant, long-distance migratory songbird, the Yellow-breasted Bunting Emberiza aureola. However, it is unknown whether the ongoing extinction of this Eurasian species especially in the west of its range could be related to differences in survival or migration routes. We investigated survival rates of populations from both western and eastern parts of the breeding range and successfully tracked the migration of individuals from two eastern populations with light-level geolocators. We found moderate apparent local survival rates in eastern populations, but observed no returning birds in western populations. Our tracking data highlights (1) a joint migration corridor of eastern populations through eastern China, (2) long autumn stopovers likely used for moult and re-fuelling, and (3) very long occurrences at wintering sites. These areas should be given priority for future conservation measures. We call for an increased monitoring of adult survival and breeding output in multiple populations (including western ones) of this critically endangered species to determine (1) the causes for the observed differences in apparent local survival and (2) whether the current survival rates are sufficient to sustain viable breeding populations., Competing Interests: Declarations. Tick-borne diseases have a significant impact on human and animal populations, posing an increasing threat to public health, particularly in the context of climate change. Along with the various natural hosts of ticks, birds play a notable role in transmitting ticks and tick-borne pathogens, indicating the importance of monitoring flyways and establishing a cooperative network for comprehensive surveillance and to collect diverse tick samples across various regions. This study aimed to develop an international network for surveillance of disease, collection of sufficient tick samples, and overall identification of the geographical distribution of host and ticks in Asian regions, especially in 11 countries on East Asian and Central Asian flyways. Ticks were collected from wild animals, domestic animals, and vegetation to identify the differences between Ixodid ticks and understand tick distribution. We collected a total 6,624 of ticks from 11 collaborating Asian countries, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mongolia and Pakistan. We identified 17 host animals and 47 species of both residential and migratory birds. Ticks from birds collected from four countries (ROK, Japan, Hong Kong and Mongolia) belonged to two genera, Haemaphysalis and Ixodes, including Haemaphysalis (H.) longicornis, H. flava, H. concinna, H. hystricis, H. formosensis, Ixodes (I.) nipponensis and I. persulcatus. The potential of migratory birds to cross ecological barriers with ticks and tick-borne diseases indicated the need for further investigations to understand the migration of birds as potential vectors and the new influx of zoonotic diseases along migratory bird flyways. We propose a high-quality, three-dimensional display system based on a simplified light field image acquisition method, and a custom-trained full-connected deep neural network is proposed. The ultimate goal of the proposed system is to acquire and reconstruct the light field images with possibly the most elevated quality from the real-world objects in a general environment. A simplified light field image acquisition method acquires the three-dimensional information of natural objects in a simple way, with high-resolution/high-quality like multicamera-based methods. We trained a full-connected deep neural network model to output desired viewpoints of the object with the same quality. The custom-trained instant neural graphics primitives model with hash encoding output the overall desired viewpoints of the object within the acquired viewing angle in the same quality, based on the input perspectives, according to the pixel density of a display device and lens array specifications within the significantly short processing time. Finally, the elemental image array was rendered through the pixel re-arrangement from the entire viewpoints to visualize the entire field-of-view and re-constructed as a high-quality three-dimensional visualization on the integral imaging display. The system was implemented successfully, and the displayed visualizations and corresponding evaluated results confirmed that the proposed system offers a simple and effective way to acquire light field images from real objects with high-resolution and present high-quality three-dimensional visualization on the integral imaging display system.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate willingness and barriers to academic activities of radiology trainees interested in interventional radiology subspecialty., Materials and Methods: Radiology trainees and fellows were called to participate a 35-question survey via online platforms and radiological societies. The research survey investigated on involvement in academic activities, willingness of a future academic career, and challenges for pursuing an academic career. Research participants interested in interventional radiology were selected for analysis. Analyses were performed by using either Fisher's exact or chi-square tests., Results: Of 892 respondents to the survey, 155 (17.4%) (112/155, 72.3% men and 43/155, 27.7% women) declared interest in interventional radiology. Active involvement in research and teaching was reported by 53.5% (83/155) and 30.3% (47/155) of the participants, respectively. The majority is willing to work in an academic setting in the future (66.8%, 103/155) and to perform a research fellowship abroad (83.9%, 130/155). Insufficient time was the greatest perceived barrier for both research and teaching activities (49.0% [76/155] and 48.4% [75/155], respectively), followed by lack of mentorship (49.0% [75/155] and 35.5% [55/155], respectively) and lack of support from faculty (40.3% [62/155] and 37.4% [58/155], respectively)., Conclusion: Our international study shows that most trainees interested in interventional radiology subspecialty actively participate in research activities and plan to work in an academic setting. Proteomic tools were used to identify the key proteins that might be associated with bronchial asthma(BA). Firstly, the serum samples from healthy adults and asthmatic patients were collected. Tandem Mass Tag~(TM)(TMT), which removes high-abundance structures and nonspecific proteins, was employed to identify the differentially expressed proteins between asthmatic patients and healthy adults. Gene Ontology(GO) annotation and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were carried out for the differentially expressed proteins. The core proteins in the asthma group were screened out by protein-protein interaction(PPI) analysis. Then the core proteins were verified by Western blot for 3 patients with bronchial asthma and 3 healthy adults. A total of 778 differentially expressed proteins were screened out, among which 32 proteins contained quantitative information, including 18 up-regulated proteins and 14 down-regulated proteins. The differentially expressed proteins were enriched in 28 KEGG signaling pathways. The PPI analysis showed that 10 proteins(GDN, 1433 Z, VWF, HEMO, CERU, A1 AT, TSP1, G3 P, IBP7, and KPYM) might be involved in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma. Compared with those in healthy adults, the expression levels of SLC25 A4, SVEP1, and KRT25 in the sera of asthmatic patients were up-regulated(P<0.05). Therefore, it is hypothesized that a variety of immune signaling pathways and differentially expressed proteins play a role in the pathogenesis of BA, which provides potential target information for the treatment of BA.

Fusarium culmorum is a major pathogen of grain crops. Infected plants accumulate deoxynivalenol (DON), 3-acetyl-deoxynivalenol (3-ADON), or nivalenol (NIV), which are mycotoxins of the trichothecene B group. These toxins are also produced by F. graminearum species complex. New trichothecenes structurally similar to trichothecenes B but lacking the carbonyl group on C-8, designated NX toxins, were recently discovered in atypical isolates of F. graminearum from North America. Only these isolates and a few strains of a yet to be characterized Fusarium species from South Africa are known to produce NX-2 and other NX toxins. Here, we report that among 20 F. culmorum strains isolated from maize, wheat, and oat in Europe and Asia over a period of 70 years, 18 strains produced NX-2 simultaneously with 3-ADON and DON or NIV. Rice cultures of strains producing 3-ADON accumulated NX-2 in amounts corresponding to 2−8% of 3-ADON (1.2−36 mg/kg). A strain producing NIV accumulated NX-2 and NIV at comparable amounts (13.6 and 10.3 mg/kg, respectively). In F. graminearum, producers of NX-2 possess a special variant of cytochrome P450 monooxygenase encoded by TRI1 that is unable to oxidize C-8. In F. culmorum, producers and nonproducers of NX-2 possess identical TRI1; the reason for the production of NX-2 is unknown. Our results indicate that the production of NX-2 simultaneously with trichothecenes B is a common feature of F. culmorum.

Molt strategies have received relatively little attention in current ornithology, and knowledge concerning the evolution, variability and extent of molt is sparse in many bird species. This is especially true for East Asian Locustella species where assumptions on molt patterns are based on incomplete information. We provide evidence indicating a complex postbreeding molt strategy and variable molt extent among the Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler Locustella certhiola , based on data from six ringing sites situated along its flyway from the breeding grounds to the wintering areas. Detailed study revealed for the first time that in most individuals wing feather molt proceeds from the center both toward the body and the wing-tip, a molt pattern known as divergent molt (which is rare among Palearctic passerines). In the Russian Far East, where both breeding birds and passage migrants occur, a third of the adult birds were molting in late summer. In Central Siberia, at the northwestern limit of its distribution, adult individuals commenced their primary molt partly divergently and partly with unknown sequence. During migration in Mongolia, only descendantly (i.e., from the body toward the wing-tip) molting birds were observed, while further south in Korea, Hong Kong, and Thailand the proportion of potential eccentric and divergent feather renewal was not identifiable since the renewed feathers were already fully grown as expected. We found an increase in the mean number of molted primaries during the progress of the autumn migration. Moderate body mass levels and low-fat and muscle scores were observed in molting adult birds, without any remarkable increase in the later season. According to optimality models, we suggest that an extremely short season of high food abundance in tall grass habitats and a largely overland route allow autumn migration with low fuel loads combined with molt migration in at least a part of the population. While classic models for the emergence of pastoral groups in Inner Asia describe mounted, horse-borne herders sweeping across the Eurasian Steppes during the Early or Middle Bronze Age (ca. 3000-1500 BCE), the actual economic basis of many early pastoral societies in the region is poorly characterized. In this paper, we use collagen mass fingerprinting and ancient DNA analysis of some of the first stratified and directly dated archaeofaunal assemblages from Mongolia's early pastoral cultures to undertake species identifications of this rare and highly fragmented material. Our results provide evidence for livestock-based, herding subsistence in Mongolia during the late 3rd and early 2nd millennia BCE. We observe no evidence for dietary exploitation of horses prior to the late Bronze Age, ca. 1200 BCE - at which point horses come to dominate ritual assemblages, play a key role in pastoral diets, and greatly influence pastoral mobility. In combination with the broader archaeofaunal record of Inner Asia, our analysis supports models for widespread changes in herding ecology linked to the innovation of horseback riding in Central Asia in the final 2nd millennium BCE. Such a framework can explain key broad-scale patterns in the movement of people, ideas, and material culture in Eurasian prehistory.

The emergence of mobile herding lifeways in Mongolia and eastern Eurasia was one of the most crucial economic and cultural transitions in human prehistory. Understanding the process by which this played out, however, has been impeded by the absence of a precise chronological framework for the prehistoric era in Mongolia. One rare source of empirically dateable material useful for understanding eastern Eurasia's pastoral tradition comes from the stone burial mounds and monumental constructions that began to appear across the landscape of Mongolia and adjacent regions during the Bronze Age (ca. 3000-700 BCE). Here, along with presenting 28 new radiocarbon dates from Mongolia's earliest pastoral monumental burials, we synthesise, critically analyse, and model existing dates to present the first precision Bayesian radiocarbon model for the emergence and geographic spread of Bronze Age monument and burial forms. Model results demonstrate a cultural succession between ambiguously dated Afanasievo, Chemurchek, and Munkhkhairkhan traditions. Geographic patterning reveals the existence of important cultural frontiers during the second millennium BCE. Bacterial resistance to the existing drugs requires constant development of new antibiotics. Developing compounds active against gram-negative bacteria thereby is one of the more challenging tasks. Among the many approaches to develop successful antibacterials, medicinal chemistry driven evolution of existing successful antibiotics is considered to be the most effective one. Towards this end, the C-20 aldehyde moiety of desmycosin was modified into α-acylamino and α-acyloxy amide functionalities using isonitrile-based Ugi and Passerini reactions, aiming for enhanced antibacterial and physicochemical properties. The desired compounds were obtained in 45-93% yield under mild conditions. The antibacterial activity of the resulting conjugates was tested against gram-negative Aliivibrio fischeri. The antibiotic strength is mostly governed by the amine component introduced. Thus, methylamine derived desmycosin bis-amide 4 displayed an enhanced inhibition rate vs. desmycosin (99% vs. 83% at 1 µM). Derivatives with long acyclic or bulky amine and isocyanide Ugi components reduced potency, whereas carboxylic acid reagents with longer chain length afforded increased bioactivity. Aims: Productivity losses related to premature cancer mortality have been assessed for most developed countries but results for Russia are limited to cross-sectional reports. The aim of this study was to quantify productivity costs due to cancer mortality in Russia between 2001 and 2015 and project this to 2030. Methods : Cancer mortality data (2001-2015) were acquired from the State Cancer Registry, whereas population data, labour force participation rates and annual earnings were retrieved from the Federal State Statistics Service. Cancer mortality was projected to 2030 and the human capital approach was applied to estimate productivity losses. Results : The total annual losses increased from US6.5b in 2001-2005 to US$8.1b in 2011-2015, corresponding to 0.24% of the annual gross domestic product. The value is expected to remain high in 2030 (US$7.5b, 0.14% of gross domestic product). Productivity losses per cancer death are predicted to grow faster in women (from US$18,622 to US$22,386) than in men (from US$25,064 to US$28,459). Total losses were found to be highest for breast cancer in women (US$0.6b, 20% of overall losses in women) and lung cancer in men (US$1.2b, 24%). The absolute predicted change of annual losses between 2011-2015 and 2026-2030 was greatest for cervix uteri (+US$214m) in women and for lip, oral and pharyngeal cancers in men (+US$182m). Conclusions : In Russia, productivity losses due to premature cancer mortality are substantial. Given the expected importance especially for potentially preventable cancers, steps to implement effective evidence-based national cancer control policies are urgently required.

Cognitive impairments can be devastating for quality of life, and thus, preventing or counteracting them is of great value. To this end, the present study exploits the potential of the plant Rhodiola rosea and identifies the constituent ferulic acid eicosyl ester [icosyl-(2 E )-3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-prop-2-enoate (FAE-20)] as a memory enhancer. We show that food supplementation with dried root material from R. rosea dose-dependently improves odor-taste reward associative memory scores in larval Drosophila and prevents the age-related decline of this appetitive memory in adult flies. Task-relevant sensorimotor faculties remain unaltered. From a parallel approach, a list of candidate compounds has been derived, including R. rosea -derived FAE-20. Here, we show that both R. rosea -derived FAE-20 and synthetic FAE-20 are effective as memory enhancers in larval Drosophila . Synthetic FAE-20 also partially compensates for age-related memory decline in adult flies, as well as genetically induced early-onset loss of memory function in young flies. Furthermore, it increases excitability in mouse hippocampal CA1 neurons, leads to more stable context-shock aversive associative memory in young adult (3-month-old) mice, and increases memory scores in old (>2-year-old) mice. Given these effects, and given the utility of R. rosea -the plant from which we discovered FAE-20-as a memory enhancer, these results may hold potential for clinical applications.

Background: Breast and cervical cancer are among the leading causes of preventable cancer deaths in women in Russia. The aim of this study is to analyze changes in breast and cervical cancer incidence and mortality trends using data from the Russian State Cancer Registry., Methods: The age-standardized rates of cervical cancer incidence (1993-2013) and mortality (1980-2013) were analyzed using piecewise linear regression. Age-period-cohort models were used to estimate the temporal effects and provide future predictions., Results: Breast and cervical cancer incidence rates uniformly increased over two decades from 33.0 to 47.0 per 100,000 and from 10.6 to 14.2 per 100,000, respectively. Breast cancer mortality rates however declined from 17.6 to 15.7 in 2013, while cervical cancer mortality increased steadily from 5.6 to 6.7. Breakpoints in the risk occurred in cohorts born 1937-1953, indicating a recent generational decrease in breast cancer mortality, but a concomitant increase in cervical cancer. Cervical cancer has already surpassed breast cancer in terms of years of life lost (YLL) (23.4 per death vs 18.5 in 2009-2013), while future projections suggest that the annual YLL could reach 1.2 million for cervical cancer and (decline to) 1.8 million for breast cancer by the year 2030., Conclusion: The temporal patterns of breast cancer incidence and mortality in Russia are in line with other countries in Europe, although cervical cancer rates and the risk of occurrence in recent generations is rapidly increasing; these trends underscore the need to place immediate priority in national cervical vaccination and screening programs., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. From the American West to the steppes of Eurasia, the domestic horse transformed human societies, providing rapid transport, communication, and military power, and serving as an important subsistence animal. Because of the importance of oral equipment for horse riding, dentistry is an essential component of modern horse care. In the open grasslands of northeast Asia, horses remain the primary form of transport for many herders. Although free-range grazing on gritty forage mitigates many equine dental issues, contemporary Mongolian horsemen nonetheless practice some forms of dentistry, including the removal of problematic deciduous teeth and the vestigial first premolar ("wolf tooth"). Here, we present archaezoological data from equine skeletal remains spanning the past 3,200 y, indicating that nomadic dental practices have great antiquity. Anthropogenic modifications to malerupted deciduous central incisors in young horses from the Late Bronze Age demonstrate their attempted removal, coinciding with the local innovation or adoption of horseback riding and the florescence of Mongolian pastoral society. Horse specimens from this period show no evidence of first premolar removal, which we first identify in specimens dating to ca. 750 BCE. The onset of premolar extraction parallels the archaeological appearance of jointed bronze and iron bits, suggesting that this technological shift prompted innovations in dentistry that improved horse health and horse control. These discoveries provide the earliest directly dated evidence for veterinary dentistry, and suggest that innovations in equine care by nomadic peoples ca. 1150 BCE enabled the use of horses for increasingly sophisticated mounted riding and warfare., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Mongolia has a high burden from noncommunicable diseases, with cancer now the second leading cause of mortality. Given the paucity of situation analyses from the country, this study reports cancer data based on new cases 2008-12 from the National Cancer Registry of Mongolia covering the entire population (2.87 million). New cancer cases of 21,564 were diagnosed over the 5-year period, with a slight predominance of cases (52%) in men. Liver cancer was the leading cancer site in both sexes (ASRs of 114.7 and 74.6 per 100,000 males and females), and responsible for almost two-fifths of all cancer diagnoses, followed by cancers of stomach, lung and oesophagus in men and cervix, stomach and oesophagus in women. The cumulative risk of incidence for all cancers (27.7% and 20.8% in men and women, respectively) positions Mongolia above China (20.2% and 13.3%), below the United States (34.1% and 28.5%) and similar to Russia (26.1% and 19.1%). These figures shed light on the considerable magnitude of cancer in the country and the large fraction of cancers that can be prevented by lifestyle modifications and vaccine implementation. 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) can induce drug transporter genes such as the ATP-binding cassette G member 2 (ABCG2), which contributes to multidrug resistance. We investigated the effect of TCDD pretreatment on drug transporters induction from cancer cells of various origins. Cell viabilities after treatment of cisplatin were measured to evaluate acquiring cisplatin resistance by TCDD. Acquring cisplatin resistance was found only in cisplatin senstivie cancer cells including gastric SNU601, colon LS180, brain CRT-MG and lymphoma Jurkat cells which showed a significant increase in cell viability after combined treatment with TCDD and cisplatin. High increase of ABCG2 gene expression was found in SNU601 and LS180 cells with a mild increase in the expression of the ABCC3, ABCC5,and SLC29A2 genes in SNU601 cells, and of major vault protein (MVP) in LS180 cells. The AhR inhibitor kaempferol suppressed the upregulation of ABCG2 expression and reversed the TCDD-induced increase in cell viability in LS180 cells. However, in CRT-MG cells, other transporter genes including ABCC1, ABCC5, ABCA3, ABCA2, ABCB4, ABCG1, and SLC29A1 were up-regulated. These findings suggested the acquiring cisplatin resistance by TCDD associated with cancer cell-type-specific induction of drug transporters.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal computational options in voxel-based morphometry (VBM) for discrimination between Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and healthy control (HC) subjects., Materials and Methods: Structural magnetic resonance images of 24 AD patients and 26 HC subjects were analyzed using VBM to determine brain regions with significant gray matter (GM) loss due to AD. The VBM analyses were performed with 4 different computational options: gray matter concentration (GMC) analysis with and without global normalization, and gray matter volume (GMV) analysis, with and without global normalization. Statistical maps calculated with the 4 computational options were obtained at 3 different P-value thresholds (P < 0.001, P < 0.0005, and P < 0.0001, uncorrected for multiple comparisons), yielding a total of 12 sets of maps, from which regions-of-interest (ROI) were generated for subsequent analyses of performance in terms of discrimination between AD patients and HC subjects as based on the mean value of either the GMC or GMV within the ROI for each of the 12 maps. Discrimination performance was evaluated by means of comparing the area-under-the-curve derived from the receiver-operating characteristic analysis as well as on the accuracy of the discrimination., Results: Discrimination based on GMC analysis resulted in better performance than that based on GMV analysis. The best discrimination performance was achieved with GMC analysis either with or without proportional global normalization., Conclusion: The findings suggested that GMC-based VBM is better suited than GMV-based VBM for discrimination between AD patients and HC subjects.

Rationale and Objectives: The relative roles of arterial spin-labeling (ASL) perfusion imaging and magnetic resonance morphological assessment in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD) have not been established. Our purposes were to directly compare the diagnostic performance of ASL regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) measurement and that of morphological assessment, and to determine whether or not the combination of the two methods improves diagnostic performance., Materials and Methods: We analyzed 23 consecutive, retrospectively identified AD patients and 23 healthy control subjects. For each subject, both high-resolution T1-weighted images and ASL perfusion images were obtained. A linear discriminant analysis was performed to distinguish the AD patients from the control subjects based on the three imaging parameters: 1) globally normalized gray matter (GM) density determined by voxel-based morphometry (VBM) procedures, 2) normalized rCBF calculated from ASL data, and 3) the combination of the two. The discriminative abilities of these methods were evaluated by the area under the curve (AUC) derived from receiver-operating characteristics analysis., Results: The morphological assessment based on the globally normalized GM density resulted in an AUC of 0.779, whereas ASL-normalized rCBF analysis achieved better performance (AUC = 0.893). The combination of the two methods performed better (AUC = 0.919) than either method alone., Conclusion: Normalized rCBF measurement by ASL may perform better than morphological analysis based on the VBM procedure in discriminating AD patients from healthy control subjects. Objective: The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate maintenance of spinal canal size and restoration of vertebral height and wedge angle after percutaneous vertebroplasty., Subjects and Methods: This study included 27 patients (19 women, eight men) with osteoporotic compression fractures (52 vertebrae). MDCT with multiplanar reformation was performed within 1 day before and 1 hour after the procedure and 1 year after the procedure on a routine or as-needed basis. The degree of retropulsion, smallest size of the spinal canal, and vertebral height and wedge angle were measured. Statistical analyses were performed with the paired Student's t and Mann-Whitney U tests., Results: There were no statistically significant differences in degree of retropulsion or size of the spinal canal before and after treatment and at the follow-up evaluation (p > 0.05). Even in the 36 vertebrae with spinal canal compromise before the procedure, there was no significant change in spinal stenosis (p > 0.05). Vertebral height and wedge angle were restored immediately after treatment (1.2 mm and 2.8 degrees , p < 0.05). These restorations were more prominent in vertebrae with fracture clefts than in those without clefts (p < 0.05). Restoration of vertebral height and wedge angle were diminished, but the preprocedure results were maintained in follow-up (0.4 mm and 1.1 degrees , p > 0.05)., Conclusion: Vertebroplasty can maintain vertebral height and wedge angle and spinal canal size at least 1 year after treatment.

This is to report arterial spin-labeling (ASL) regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) mapping findings in a case of corticobasal degeneration (CBD). A 68-year-old man gradually developed limb-kinetic apraxia, myoclonus, and rigidity in the left hand and was diagnosed as having CBD. Magnetic resonance imaging and single photon emission computed tomography revealed atrophy and decreased blood flow, respectively, in the right hemisphere, findings that were compatible with CBD. In addition, ASL rCBF mapping demonstrated asymmetrical hypoperfusion areas in locations typical for CBD, proving its potential usefulness for routine clinical differential diagnosis.
