By the end of primary school, students are confronted with expository texts known for their high proportion of domain-specific academic vocabulary words. These words usually comprise Greek or Latin roots in their internal structure. Recent findings showed that knowledge of Greek and Latin roots is related to reading comprehension. However, no study has investigated such a relationship in a francophone context. Therefore, the present study sought to measure Greek and Latin roots' relation to reading comprehension among French 6th graders. To do so, 40 participants were administrated an experimental task on Greek and Latin roots knowledge and a reading comprehension standardized subset test. Variables related to reading comprehension, such as morphological awareness, vocabulary breadth, word reading fluency, oral comprehension, and working memory were also measured. Results showed that knowledge of Greek and Latin roots significantly predicted variation of reading comprehension. This paper discusses scientific and educational implications of this finding.

Many educational approaches assume that making the learner active leads to better learning although this improvement inlearning has not be firmly quantified experimentally. The goal of this paper is to articulate a model of agency in cooperativelearning based on a predictive cognitive architecture and to explore methodological strategies as well as theoretical andapplied implications of agency in the study of cooperative learning, in this case with data on emotional processing. Resultsfrom 27 dyads (1 player and 1 watcher) who played a serious game for learning physics for 120 minutes show that agencyhas no effect on the overall quantity of emotional processing, but that the emotional processing of a watcher and playeris synchronized. A watchers emotional processing may precede or be delayed from the players. The cornerstone of thisframework is the notion of predictions, which unites top-down and bottom-up influences as modulated by the possibilityfor action (agency). The model presented is the foundation for process-oriented studies of cooperative learning from aneducational neuroscience perspective.

Although some people may shudder at the thought of "research," in fact everyone that directs a communication center uses concepts and frameworks to create, develop, and operate those centers. In this inaugural issue of the "Communication Center Journal," Kathleen Turner considers the value of research to communication center directors' common endeavors and suggests several areas of investigation that would yield benefits.

Introduction: Systematic reviews are considered the highest level of evidence that can help guide evidence‐informed decisions in nursing practice, education, and even health policy. Systematic review publications have increased from a sporadic few in 1980s to more than 10,000 systematic reviews published every year and around 30,000 registered in prospective registries. Methods: A cross‐sectional design and a variety of data sources were triangulated to identify the journals from which systematic reviews would be evaluated for adherence to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 reporting guidelines and scope. Specifically, this study used the PRISMA 2020 reporting guidelines to assess the reporting of the introduction, methods, information sources and search strategy, study selection process, quality/bias assessments, and results and discussion aspects of the included systematic reviews. Results: Upon review of the 215 systematic reviews published in 10 top‐tier journals in the field of nursing in 2019 and 2020, this study identified several opportunities to improve the reporting of systematic reviews in the context of the 2020 PRISMA statement. Areas of priority for reporting include the following key areas: (1) information sources, (2) search strategies, (3) study selection process, (4) bias reporting, (5) explicit discussion of the implications to policy, and lastly, the need for (6) prospective protocol registration. Discussion: The use of the PRISMA 2020 guidelines by authors, peer reviewers, and editors can help to ensure the transparent and detailed reporting of systematic reviews published in the nursing literature. Clinical Relevance: Systematic reviews are considered strong research evidence that can guide evidence‐based practice and even clinical decision‐making. This paper addresses some common methodological and process issues among systematic reviews that can guide clinicians and practitioners to be more critical in appraising research evidence that can shape nursing practice. OBJECTIVE: This quality improvement project targeted an enculturation gap among new nurses by assembling and piloting an Enculturation Toolkit. BACKGROUND: Enculturation of new nurses contributes to engagement, performance, sense of belonging, and retention. During the COVID-19 pandemic, orientation was shortened, virtual, and asynchronous, creating a gap in enculturation. METHODS: New nurses and their preceptors were surveyed at baseline, 2 to 3 months, and 4 to 5 months to measure engagement and enculturation using the Meaning and Joy in Work Questionnaire (MJWQ) and questions about the history and values of the organization. RESULTS: Initial MJWQ responses were high and sustained throughout the study period. Participants demonstrated increased knowledge of the organization's mission statement and logo. New nurses rated the toolkit activities favorably, with an average score of 4.6 out of 5. CONCLUSIONS: An Enculturation Toolkit was effective in improving knowledge about the organization and sustaining engagement and belonging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
