In this work, we show that the completeness relation for the eigenvectors, which is an essential assumption of quantum mechanics, remains true if the initial Hamiltonian, having a discrete spectrum, is modified by a delta potential (to be made precise by a renormalization scheme) supported at a point in two and three-dimensional compact manifolds or Euclidean spaces. We study the spectral properties of a Schr\"{o}dinger operator $H_0$ modified by $\delta$ interactions and show explicitly how the poles of the new Green's function are rearranged relative to the poles of original Green's function of $H_0$. We prove that the new bound state energies are interlaced between the old ones, and the ground state energy is always lowered if the $\delta$ interaction is attractive. We also derive an alternative perturbative method of finding the bound state energies and wave functions under the assumption of a small coupling constant in a somewhat heuristic manner. We further show that these results can be extended to cases in which a renormalization process is required. We consider the possible extensions of our results to the multi center case, to $\delta$ interaction supported on curves, and to the case, where the particle is moving in a compact two-dimensional manifold under the influence of $\delta$ interaction. In [J. A. Rebou\c{c}as and P. A. Brand\~{a}o, Phys. Rev. A 104, 063514 (2021)] the authors compute the scattering amplitude for a $\mathcal{P}\mathcal{T}$-symmetric double-delta-function potential in three dimensions by invoking the far-zone approximation and summing the resulting Born series. We show that the analysis of this paper suffers from a basic error. Therefore its results are inconclusive. This paper presents history and evolution of the intra-bunch feedback system for circular accelerators. This pro-ject has been presented by John D. Fox (SLAC/Stanford Un.) at the IPAC2010 held in Kyoto. The idea of the pro-posal is to build a flexible and powerful instrument to mit-igate the parasitic e-cloud effects on the proton (and poten-tially positron) beams in storage rings. Being a new and ambitious project, the financial issues have been quite im-portant. US LHC Accelerator Research Program (LARP) and other institution funding sources have assured the de-velopment of the design for implementing the feedback in the SPS ring at CERN. Here the intra-bunch feedback sys-tem has been installed and tested in the frame of the LIU (LHC Injector Upgrade) program. After the end of the LARP funding, a possible new inter-esting chance to continue the R&D activity, could be by implementing the system in a lepton storage ring affected by e-cloud effects. For achieving this goal, a possible ex-periment could be carried out in the positron ring of DAFNE at Frascati, Italy. The feasibility of the proposal is evaluated in the following sections. We reexamine the relativistic 2+1 dimensional Lee model in light-front coordinates on flat space and on a space-time with a spatial section given by a compact manifold in the usual canonical formalism. The simpler 2+1 dimension is chosen because renormalization is needed only for the mass difference but not required for the coupling constant and the wavefunction. The model is constructed non-perturbatively based on the resolvent formulation [1]. The bound state spectrum is studied through its ``principal operator" and bounds for the ground state energy are obtained. We show that the formal expression found indeed defines the resolvent of a self-adjoint operator--the Hamiltonian of the interacting system. Moreover, we prove an essential result that the principal operator corresponds to a self-adjoint holomorphic family of type-A in the sense of Kato., Comment: 35 pages

The double-well potential is a good example, where we can compute the splitting in the bound state energy of the system due to the tunneling effect with various methods, namely WKB or instanton calculations. All these methods are non-perturbative and there is a common belief that it is difficult to find the splitting in the energy due to the barrier penetration from a perturbative analysis. However, we will illustrate by explicit examples containing singular potentials (e.g., Dirac delta potentials supported by points and curves and their relativistic extensions)that it is possible to find the splitting in the bound state energies by developing some kind of perturbation method., Comment: 24 pages, 4 figures

We study an attractive $\phi^4$ interaction using Tamm-Dancoff truncation with light-front coordinates in $3+1$ dimensions. The truncated theory requires a coupling constant renormalization, we compute its $\beta$ function non-perturbatively, show that the model is asymptotically free, and find the corresponding Callan-Symanzik equations. The model supports bound states, we find the wave function for the ground state of the two-particle sector. We also give a bound for the $N$-particle ground state energy within a mean field approximation, including the corresponding result for the case of $2+1$ dimensions where the model does not require renormalization., Comment: 26 pages with appendix, 1 table. We discuss a simple singular system in two dimension, two heavy particles interacting with a light particle via an attractive contact interaction. Although intuitively clear the actual application of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation to this problem is quite subtle. Nevertheless, with due care we show that this can be done, as a result we calculate the leading term of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and indicate how to get the higher order corrections.

We find a class of minimal hypersurfaces H(k) as the zero level set of Pfaffians, resp. determinants of real 2k+2 dimensional antisymmetric matrices. While H(1) and H(2) are congruent to a 6-dimensional quadratic cone resp. Assuming that Bogoluibov's theory of weakly interacting dilute Bose gas defines a self-consistent model Hamiltonian, we investigate its thermodynamic limit as we take the volume to infinity, the infinite volume is taken via a sequence of scaled convex regions with piecewise smooth boundary and the volumes staying proportional to the cube of the diameter of the region. To get a strict bound on the behavior of the thermodynamic limit, we use the recent formulation of Bogoluibov's theory of condensation in terms of heat kernels for a given domain as well as an estimate of the difference of traces between the heat kernel with Neumann boundary conditions on this domain and the infinite space result. We discuss a simple singular system in one dimension, two heavy particles interacting with a light particle via an attractive contact interaction. It is natural to apply Born-Oppenheimer approximation to this problem. We present a detailed discussion of this approach, the advantage of this simple model is that one can estimate the error terms self-consistently. Renormalization is one of the deepest ideas in physics, yet its exact implementation in any interesting problem is usually very hard. In the present work, following the approach by Glazek and Maslowski in the flat space, we will study the exact renormalization of the same problem in a nontrivial geometric setting, namely in the two dimensional hyperbolic space. We show that the ground state energy is bounded from below when there are infinitely many attractive delta function potentials placed in arbitrary locations, while all being separated at least by a minimum distance, on two dimensional non-compact manifold. The boundary effects on the Bose-Einstein condensation of a Bose gas with a nonvanishing chemical potential on an ultra-static space-time are studied. High temperature regime, which is the relevant regime for the relativistic gas, is studied through the heat kernel expansion for both Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. The high temperature expansion in the presence of a chemical potential is generated via the Mellin transform methods as applied to the harmonic sums representing the free energy and the depletion coefficient. The effects of boundary conditions on the relation between depletion coefficient and temperature are analyzed. The Bose-Einstein condensation for an ideal Bose gas and for a dilute weakly interacting Bose gas in a manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature is investigated using the heat kernel and eigenvalue estimates of the Laplace operator. The main focus is on the nonrelativistic gas. However, special relativistic ideal gas is also discussed. The thermodynamic limit of the heat kernel and eigenvalue estimates is taken and the results are used to derive bounds for the depletion coefficient. In the case of a weakly interacting gas Bogoliubov approximation is employed. The ground state is analyzed using heat kernel methods and finite size effects on the ground state energy are proposed. A quantum particle moving under the influence of singular interactions on embedded surfaces furnish an interesting example from the spectral point of view. In these problems, the possible occurrence of a bound state is perhaps the most important aspect. Such systems can be introduced as quadratic forms and generically they do not require renormalization. Yet an alternative path through the resolvent is also beneficial to study various properties. In the present work, we address these issues for compact surfaces embedded in a class of ambient manifolds. We discover that there is an exact bound state solution written in terms of the heat kernel of the ambient manifold for a range of coupling strengths. A non-perturbative renormalization of a many-body problem, where non-relativistic bosons living on a two dimensional Riemannian manifold interact with each other via the two-body Dirac delta potential, is given by the help of the heat kernel defined on the manifold. After this renormalization procedure, the resolvent becomes a well-defined operator expressed in terms of an operator (called principal operator) which includes all the information about the spectrum. Then, the ground state energy is found in the mean field approximation and we prove that it grows exponentially with the number of bosons. This work is a continuation of our previous work (JMP, Vol. 48, 12, pp. 122103-1-122103-20, 2007), where we constructed the non-relativistic Lee model in three dimensional Riemannian manifolds. Here we renormalize the two dimensional version by using the same methods and the results are shortly given since the calculations are basically the same as in the three dimensional model. We present a non-perturbative renormalization of the bound state problem of n bosons interacting with finitely many Dirac delta interactions on two and three dimensional Riemannian manifolds using the heat kernel. We formulate the problem in terms of a new operator called the principal or characteristic operator. In order to investigate the problem in more detail, we then restrict the problem to one particle sector. The lower bound of the ground state energy is found for general class of manifolds, e.g., for compact and Cartan-Hadamard manifolds. The estimate of the bound state energies in the tunneling regime is calculated by perturbation theory. Non-degeneracy and uniqueness of the ground state is proven by Perron-Frobenius theorem. Moreover, the pointwise bounds on the wave function is given and all these results are consistent with the one given in standard quantum mechanics. Renormalization procedure does not lead to any radical change in these cases. Finally, renormalization group equations are derived and the beta-function is exactly calculated. We study the interaction of mutually non-interacting Klein-Gordon particles with localized sources on stochastically complete Riemannian surfaces. This asymptotically free theory requires regularization and coupling constant renormalization. Renormalization is performed non-perturbatively using the orthofermion algebra technique and the principal operator $\Phi$ is found. The principal operator is then used to obtain the bound state spectrum, in terms of binding energies to single Dirac-delta function centers. The heat kernel method allows us to generalize this procedure to compact and Cartan-Hadamard type Riemannian manifolds. We make use of upper and lower bounds on the heat kernel to constrain the ground state energy from below thus confirming that our neglect of pair creation is justified for certain ranges of parameters in the problem., Comment: 29 pages

In this work, we construct the non-relativistic Lee model on some class of three dimensional Riemannian manifolds by following a novel approach introduced by S. G. Rajeev hep-th/9902025. This approach together with the help of heat kernel allows us to perform the renormalization non-perturbatively and explicitly. For completeness, we show that the ground state energy is bounded from below for different classes of manifolds, using the upper bound estimates on the heat kernel. Finally, we apply a kind of mean field approximation to the model for compact and non-compact manifolds separately and discover that the ground state energy grows linearly with the number of bosons n.

In this work, we use semigroup integral to evaluate zeta-function regularized determinants. This is especially powerful for non--positive operators such as the Dirac operator. In order to understand fully the quantum effective action one should know not only the potential term but also the leading kinetic term. In this purpose we use the Weyl type of symbol calculus to evaluate the determinant as a derivative expansion. This work is intended as an attempt to study the non-perturbative renormalization of bound state problem of finitely many Dirac-delta interactions on Riemannian manifolds, S^2, H^2 and H^3. We formulate the problem in terms of a finite dimensional matrix, called the characteristic matrix. The bound state energies can be found from the characteristic equation. The characteristic matrix can be found after a regularization and renormalization by using a sharp cut-off in the eigenvalue spectrum of the Laplacian, as it is done in the flat space, or using the heat kernel method. These two approaches are equivalent in the case of compact manifolds. The heat kernel method has a general advantage to find lower bounds on the spectrum even for compact manifolds as shown in the case of S^2. The heat kernels for H^2 and H^3 are known explicitly, thus we can calculate the characteristic matrix. We study complex bosons and fermions coupled through a generalized Yukawa type coupling in the large-N_c limit following ideas of Rajeev [Int. Jour. Mod. Phys. A 9 (1994) 5583]. We study a linear approximation to this model. We show that in this approximation we do not have boson-antiboson and fermion-antifermion bound states occuring together. There is a possibility of having only fermion-antifermion bound states. We support this claim by finding distributional solutions with energies lower than the two mass treshold in the fermion sector. This also has implications from the point of view of scattering theory to this model. We discuss some aspects of the scattering above the two mass treshold of boson pairs and fermion pairs. In this paper we study the large N_c limit of SO(N_c) gauge theory coupled to a Majorana field and a real scalar field in 1+1 dimensions extending ideas of Rajeev. We show that the phase space of the resulting classical theory of bilinears, which are the mesonic operators of this theory, is OSp_1(H|H )/U(H_+|H_+), where H|H refers to the underlying complex graded space of combined one-particle states of fermions and bosons and H_+|H_+ corresponds to the positive frequency subspace. In the begining to simplify our presentation we discuss in detail the case with Majorana fermions only (the purely bosonic case is treated in our earlier work). In the Majorana fermion case the phase space is given by O_1(H)/U(H_+), where H refers to the complex one-particle states and H_+ to its positive frequency subspace. The meson spectrum in the linear approximation again obeys a variant of the 't Hooft equation. The linear approximation to the boson/fermion coupled case brings an additonal bound state equation for mesons, which consists of one fermion and one boson, again of the same form as the well-known 't Hooft equation., Comment: 27 pages, no figures

We study two complex scalar fields coupled through a quadratic interaction in 2+1 dimensions. We use the method of bilinears as suggested by Rajeev. In this paper we study the large $N_c$ limit of SO(N_c) gauge theory coupled to a real scalar field following ideas of Rajeev. We study a large N_{c} limit of a two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory coupled to bosons and fermions in the fundamental representation. Extending an approach due to Rajeev we show that the limiting theory can be described as a classical Hamiltonian system whose phase space is an infinite-dimensional supergrassmannian. The linear approximation to the equations of motion and the constraint yields the 't Hooft equations for the mesonic spectrum. In this article we discuss the geometric quantization on a certain type of infinite dimensional super-disc. Such systems are quite natural when we analyze coupled bosons and fermions. The large-N limit of a system like that corresponds to a certain super-homogeneous space. First, we define an example of a super-homogeneous manifold: a super-disc. We show that it has a natural symplectic form, it can be used to introduce classical dynamics once a Hamiltonian is chosen. Existence of moment maps provide a Poisson realization of the underlying symmetry super-group. We discuss the classical mechanics on the Grassmannian and the Disc modeled on the ideal L^(2,\infty)(H). We apply methods of geometric quantization to these systems. Their relation to a flat symplectic space is also discussed.

In this article, we will discuss geometric quantization of 2d QCD with fermionic and bosonic matter fields. We identify the respective large-N_c phase spaces as the infinite dimensional Grassmannian and the infinite dimensional Disc. The Hamiltonians are quadratic functions, and the resulting equations of motion for these classical systems are nonlinear. In a previous publication, the first author has shown that the linearization of the equations of motion for the Grassmannian gave the `t Hooft equation. We describe a finite analogue of the Poisson algebra of Wilson loops in Yang-Mills theory. It is shown that this algebra arises in an apparently completely different context; as a Lie algebra of vector fields on a non-commutative space. This suggests that non-commutative geometry plays a fundamental role in the manifestly gauge invariant formulation of Yang-Mills theory. We formulate the canonical structure of Yang--Mills theory in terms of Poisson brackets of gauge invariant observables analogous to Wilson loops. This algebra is non--trivial and tractable in a light--cone formulation. For U(N) gauge theories the result is a Lie algebra while for SU(N) gauge theories it is a quadratic algebra. We also study the identities satsfied by the gauge invariant observables. We study a model of quantum Yang-Mills theory with a finite number of gauge invariant degrees of freedom. The gauge field has only a finite number of degrees of freedom since we assume that space-time is a two dimensional cylinder. We couple the gauge field to matter, modeled by either one or two nonrelativistic point particles. These problems can be solved {\it without any gauge fixing}, by generalizing the canonical quantization methods of Ref.\[rajeev] to the case including matter. For this, we make use of the geometry of the space of connections, which has the structure of a Principal Fiber Bundle with an infinite dimensional fiber. We are able to reduce both problems to finite dimensional, exactly solvable, quantum mechanics problems. In the case of one particle, we find that the ground state energy will diverge in the limit of infinite radius of space, consistent with confinement.
