In this thesis, the methods that improve the energy efficiency of the refrigeration cycles have been analyzed. One of these methods is dynamic simulation analysis of a vapor compression refrigeration cycle, and the other is optimal control of a vapor compression refrigeration cycle with using the artificial neural networks. Utilizing the artificial neural networks emphasizes the application of the artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, which are growingly popular nowadays, to the efficiency of the energy systems. In the dynamic simulation analysis, dynamic modeling of a vapor compression refrigeration cycle has been accomplished, thereafter, two refrigerants are employed in the cycle seperately, R134a and R1234yf, and their cooling performances are compared with each other. As a result, it has been found out that the cooling performance of the cycle is greater when R134a is employed as the main refrigerant. In the optimal control with using the artificial neural networks study, dynamic modeling of a vapor compression refrigeration cycle has been accomplished, afterwards, an artificial neural network has been trained with the simulation data and the optimal control of the system has been done by utilizing the artificial neural network as the main model of the system. Performances of the four different controllers have been compared with each other and the second law controllers has came up with the best overall second law efficiency performance, on the other hand, the entropy generation controller has found the most desirable energy consumption value through the simulation time., Bu tezde, soğutma çevrimlerinin enerji verimliliğini arttırıcı yöntemler incelenmiştir. İncelenen bu yöntemlerden birisi buhar sıkıştırmalı soğutma çevriminin dinamik simülasyon analizi, diğeri ise yapay sinir ağları kullanarak bir buhar sıkıştırmalı soğutma çevriminin optimal kontrolüdür. Yapay sinir ağlarının kullanılması günümüzde gittikçe popülerleşen yapay zeka ve makine öğrenmesi algoritmalarının enerji sistemlerinin verimliliğine uygulanmasını vurgulamaktadır. Dinamik simülasyon analizinde, bir buhar sıkıştırmalı soğutma çevrimi dinamik olarak modellenmiş, soğutucu akışkanlar olarak R134a ve R1234yf kullanılarak bu iki akışkanın soğutma performansları karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, R134a temel soğutucu akışkan olarak kullanıldığında çevrimin soğutma performansının daha üstün olduğu görülmüştür. Yapay sinir ağları destekli optimal kontrol çalışmasında ise, bir buhar sıkıştırmalı soğutma çevriminin dinamik modellenmesi gerçekleştirilmiş, ardından simülasyon verileriyle bir yapay sinir ağı eğitilmiş ve bu yapay sinir ağı sistem modeli olarak kullanılıp sistemin optimal kontrolü gerçekleştirilmiştir. Dört farklı kontrolcünün performansları birbirleriyle karşılaştırılmış ve ikinci yasa kontrolcüsü en iyi ortalama ikinci yasa verimi performansını sergilerken, diğer taraftan, entropi üretimi kontrolcüsü simulasyon süresi boyunca en uygun enerji tüketimi değerini bulmuştur.

In this article, Artificial Cooperative Search (ACS) algorithm is incorporated with the quadratic approximation (QA) operator to solve the multi-objective economic emission load dispatch (EELD) problems with different generation units. ACS is a Swarm Intelligence-based metaheuristic algorithm, based on the interaction between prey and predator organisms in a habitat, which is effective at global search; however, it does not perform so well at exploring promising regions. The QA operator, on the other hand, is a non-derivative-based efficient local search method that finds the minimum of a quadratic hyperspace passing through three points in a D-dimensional space. Solving the EELD problems with the hybridized ACS-QA algorithm, as being proposed in the present article, leads to more accurate results with fewer function evaluations. Also, multi-objectivity of the problem is handled by transforming it into a single-objective problem by using the weighted sum method. The efficiency of the proposed ACS-QA algorithm is tested in comparison to the algorithms existing in literature by implementing it on six different benchmark optimization problems. Afterward, the proposed ACS-QA algorithm and the ACS algorithm are implemented on multi-objective EELD problems with different generation units. The results are compared with the solutions in literature utilizing different metaheuristic optimization algorithms. Both studies firmly showed that the ACS-QA algorithm is able to find more accurate results even though it uses fewer function evaluation calls.

Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem deals with meeting the load demand by optimizing the operation of different power generation units at the minimum operating cost. Caused by the effect of valve-points and prohibited operation zone in the generating units’ cost functions, ELD problem is a non-linear and non-convex optimization problem. In this paper, Artificial Cooperative Search (ACS) algorithm is proposed to solve ELD problem. Proposed method, is a Swarm Intelligence-based metaheuristic algorithm, based on the interaction between prey and predator organisms in a habitat, being effective at global search. The effectiveness of the proposed method on ELD problem is examined by applying on two different test generation systems. The results show that ACS algorithm gives lower generation cost than other optimization algorithms in the literature, Ekonomik Yük Dağıtımı (EYD) problemi, farklı kapasitelerdeki güç üretim ünitelerinin işletiminin, toplam elektrik talebini en az maliyet ile sağlayacak şekilde en iyilenmesi ile ilgilenir. Üretim ünitelerinin maliyet fonksiyonlarında yer alan valf kısma etkileri ve yasaklı çalışma alanları nedeni ile EYD problemi doğrusal ve konveks olmayan bir en iyileme problemidir. Bu çalışmada, Yapay İşbirlikçi Algoritması (YİA) EYD probleminin çözülmesi amacı ile önerilmiştir. Önerilen yöntem, sürü zekası tabanlı, bir habitatta bulunan av ve avcı ilişkisine dayanan, bütünsel aramada etkili bir üstsezgisel optimizasyon algoritmasıdır. Yöntemin EYD problemindeki etkinliği, iki farklı test üretim sistemine uygulanarak gösterilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar, YİA ile literatürde yer alan diğer en iyileme algoritmalarına göre daha düşük işletim maliyeti elde edileceğini ortaya koymaktadır

Bu tezde, Artificial Cooperative Search (ACS) algoritması ile Quadratic Approximation (QA) operatörü, değişik üretim ünitelerinden oluşan çoklu amaçlı Ekonomik Emisyon Yük Dağıtımı (EEYD) probleminin çözümü için birleştirilmiştir. Bir habitattaki av-avcı ilişkisine dayalı, Sürü Zekası (SZ) tabanlı üstsezgisel bir optimizasyon algoritması olan ACS, global arama konusunda etkilidir ama önemli bölgeleri aramada iyi performans gösterememektedir. Bir diğer yandan, D-boyutlu bir uzaydaki üç noktanın üzerinden geçen bir kuadratik süperuzayın minimumunu bulan ve türev tabanlı olmayan QA operatörü efektif bir yerel arama algoritmasıdır. Bu tezde de önerildiği gibi, çoklu amaçlı EEYD problemlerini hibritleştirilmiş ACS-QA algoritması ile çözmek, daha kesin sonuçlara daha az fonksiyon değerlendirilmesi ile ulaşılmasını sağlar. Ayrıca, problemdeki çoklu amaçlılık, Ağırlıklı Toplam Metodu (ATM) ile problemi tek amaçlı hale dönüştürerek ele alınmıştır. ACS-QA algoritmasının etkinliği, ACS-QA ile literatürdeki diğer farklı algoritmaları, altı farklı kıyaslamalı optimizasyon problemlerine uygulanıp karşılaştırılarak test edilmiştir. Sonra, önerilen ACS-QA ve ACS algoritmaları değişik üretim ünitelerinden oluşan çoklu amaçlı EEYD problemine uygulanmıştır. Sonuçlar, literatürde yer alan farklı üstsezgisel optimizasyon algoritmalarının uygulanıp elde edilen sonuçlar ile karşılaştırılmıştir.
