Various emotion elicitation methods are used in many studies assessing the interaction of emotion and cognition. However, most of the experimental and meta-analysis studies comparing emotion elicitation methods have examined the success of emotion evoking in terms of valence and arousal. There are few experimental studies dealing with comparisons within discrete emotion approach. The present study was mainly aimed to determine the most effective emotion elicitation method for discrete emotions. Therefore, three emotion elicitation methods (film, IAPS, imagery) used to evoke three discrete emotions (fear, disgust, happiness) were examined in the framework of discrete, dimensional, and response component model of emotion. Within-subject design was used to examine the coherence of emotional response components such as subjective experience, facial expression, and physiological responses. The results suggested that film was the most effective among all emotion elicitation methods. All emotions elicited using the film method were accompanied not only by intense subjective experiences but also by physiological responses. IAPS and imagination methods successfully elicited subjective experiences of all emotions, except for fear - IAPS condition. OBJECTIVE: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that is the third leading cause of death in the world is one of the main economic burden. The cost is primarily due to COPD exacerbations and hospitalizations. We aimed to determine the factors associated with increasing costs in severe COPD exacerbation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: It was a multicenter and prospective observational recording study. 294 patients who severe COPD exacerbation were included in the study. An amount of more than 429.58 euros was accepted as increasing costs (IC). Factors associated with IC were determined by regression analysis. RESULTS: Mean age was 69.90 ± 9.79/years (minimum: 40 maximum: 95), mean costs were 594.9 ± 70.9 euros. About 83.7% of the patients were male, 24.1% (71) were active smokers, and 81% (238) had at least 1 comorbidity. Factors associated with IC in the regression analysis were delay of discharge (due to prolonged consultation), antibiotic use longer than 7 days, need to enteral/parenteral feeding, application of pulmonary rehabilitation (physiotherapy) at hospitalization, and refusal to be discharged. CONCLUSION: The increasing costs in severe COPD exacerbation depends not only treatment but also the patient's social status and hospital-related factors. We think that the cost of severe COPD exacerbation can be reduced by interventions on interchangeable factors such as patient's social status and hospital-related factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Atypical pneumonia involves viral and some bacterial microorganisms in etiology. As Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) is newly identified, the differences between coronavirus and other microorganisms causing atypical pneumonia have not been fully expressed yet. We aimed to make a clinical comparison of cases with COVID-19 and atypical pneumonia. METHODS: "Non-COVID-19 atypical pneumonia" (non-COVID) group included patients with both radiological and clinical confirmation of atypical pneumonia by radiologists and clinicians. Patients with a positive polymerase chain reaction test formed "COVID-19 pneumonia" (COVID) group. Demographics, radiological, laboratory, and clinical features were recorded retrospectively. RESULTS: A total of 177 patients (46 non-COVID and 131 COVID) were included. The mean age of the COVID group was significantly lower (p=0.040). Ground-glass density and peripheral involvement were more common in thoracic computed tomography of patients with COVID-19 (p=0.017 and p=0.019). Fever and fatigue in COVID (p<0.001 and p=0.040) and shortness of breath and gastrointestinal complaints in non-COVID group were significantly higher as presenting symptoms (p<0.001 and p=0.031). In biochemical tests, impairment in liver function tests in COVID-19 (p<0.001), impairment in kidney function tests, increased C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT) in non-COVID-19 patients were more common (p=0.003, p=0.042, and p=0.023, respectively). Serum PCT, CRP, and lymphocyte levels were significantly lower in cases with COVID-19 (p<0.001, p=0.048, and p=0.016). There was no significant difference in the prognosis of both groups (p=0.556). CONCLUSIONS: With COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in atypical pneumonia cases in which viral strains play a role. Symptomatic, laboratory, and radiological differences between two groups detected in our study may help in differential diagnosis especially in winter when atypical pneumonia is more common. Photovoltaic (PV) power plants, which are one of the most important renewable energy sources, provide great opportunities in terms of clean energy, due to their almost zero harmful environmental impact and relatively easy installation, considering the solar potential of our country. In addition, the government supports offered within the scope of the Renewable Energy Resources Support Mechanism (YEKDEM) provide great opportunities to bring renewable energy resources into the economy. According to the projection made in the annual program of the Presidency of our country, an increase of 1000 MW is expected in the amount of electricity produced from solar power plants in 2022. In addition, the share of electricity produced by solar energy in the total production is expected to be 8.5%. In this study; the design and simulation application of a rooftop, grid-connected distributed solar power plant with a capacity of 1MWp was presented through the PVsyst program. In the study, it was seen that the panel slope, the right PV module, and inverter selection are essential. The annual amount of energy that can be supplied to the grid has been obtained as 1246 MWh. In the simulation studies, it was emphasized that such a facility, which was established compared to a power plant with equivalent energy production, would contribute positively to the impact of climate change by not emitting 14000 tons of Co2. It has been observed that revenue of 4,485,600 ₺ can be obtained from such a newly established facility for the first ten-year period with a fixed fee purchase guarantee with the domestic contribution. Considering that the life of the power plant will be 25 years, it can be said that the facility investment will be highly advantageous even without YEKDEM support. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the accumulation of microfilaments in aquatic systems due to domestic laundry activities in the Thrace Region of Turkey was investigated by adopting the dynamic system modelling approach. The parameters regarding the population of the region, prevalence of washing, filtration, wastewater treatment efficiency and microfilaments discharge were linked and the relationship between them was determined mathematically. Two different scenarios based on technological improvements in fabrics and behavioural laundry changes of the society were produced to examine the microfilament accumulation in the long term with Monte Carlo Sensitivity Analysis. In the 1st scenario, microfilament accumulation was examined when advanced techniques are used in treatment efficiency and filters are located in washing machines, while in the 2nd scenario, filament shedding during washing is limited with the improvements to be made in fabric technology and frequency of washing laundry is decreased by raising awareness of local people on environmental issues. As a result, microfilament accumulation from laundry activities is estimated to reach approximately 500 tonnes by the end of 2035 in the project region. In the 1st scenario, it was seen that the microfilament accumulation varies between 25 and 450 tonnes during the project period. This value changes between 30 and 150 tonnes in the 2nd scenario. The results show that initiatives to prevent pollution at its source (such as increasing fabric technology) are more effective in reducing particles accumulated in aquatic systems in the long run compared to pollution cleaning-up efforts.
