The tumor-to-tumor metastasis phenomenon remains fairly uncommon, with fewer than 100 cases described to present time. Virtually any tumor can be a donor or a recipient neoplasm. Nevertheless, renal carcinomas have been implicated as the most common malignant tumors to harbor metastasis, while lung and breast tumors are the most frequent donors. This article reports an extremely rare case of a breast cancer metastasis in a lung metastasis of clear cell type renal cell carcinoma that met all Campbell and coworkers’ tumor-to-tumor metastasis criteria. Additionally, we present the literature case reports of breast cancer metastasis in renal cell carcinomas and try to discuss the mechanisms underlying its occurrence. Since this phenomenon identification will impact the therapeutic strategy and it is not easily detected by image, the anatomopathological study of any and all suspicious lesions is of crucial importance. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a metastasis inside a metastasis.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a rare phenomenon. We present a rare case of an 83-year-old man with pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma and thymoma. Thymectomy and superior segmentectomy of the left lower lobe were successfully performed on the patient. This thymoma had a region of lung cancer. Metastasis from other tumors to thymoma is rare, and we found a report that described a pancreatic carcinoma metastasizing to thymoma. We report an extremely rare case of metastasis from lung cancer to a thymoma.

We report a case of a collision tumor, a meningioma complicated with metastasis from a primary renal cell carcinoma. A 75-year-old man, with known history of renal cell carcinoma, and 10-year history of stable meningioma developed neurological symptoms. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed left frontal intracranial extra-axial mass with imaging criteria suspicious for an atypical meningioma or hemangiopericytoma. Given the history of a known primary, the possibility of brain metastasis was included. Pathology confirmed the presence of metastatic renal cell carcinoma nidus with a surrounding meningioma. Tumor-to-tumor metastasis or collision tumor is a very rare phenomenon. Atypical radiologic findings with positive history of a primary extracranial tumor should raise the suspicion of potential metastases. Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is being described in different types of tumors and in increasing amount of cases. Being aware of this phenomenon is important, as it affects disease stage and treatment approach. In this report, we descried an incidental histopathologic finding of metastatic adenocarcinoma to an ovarian cystadenofibroma and review cases published previously in the literature.

Distinct tumors in direct contact with one another are known as collision tumors and collision tumors of meningioma and metastatic renal cell carcinoma have not been previously reported. We report a 71-year-old female with a history of renal cell carcinoma who was presented with slow response and gait imbalance for 4 months. Brain MRI showed a mass in the base of right middle cranial fossa. The mass was completely removed. Histopathologic and radiographic findings provided evidence for a collision composed of meningioma and metastatic renal clear cell carcinoma.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a seldom reported phenomenon whereby a neoplasm seeds within another histologically distinct tumor, with only 84 cases documented in the literature. We hereby describe the case of a 95-year-old woman who died of widespread metastases identified as a primary hepatic angiosarcoma on autopsy, and the interesting finding of a seeding foci within a dural meningioma. Although meningiomas are the most common intracranial neoplasms to harbor such a phenomenon, this is to our knowledge the first case where an angiosarcoma was identified as the donor tumor.

Metastatic breast carcinoma to the urinary bladder is rare. Eleven cases of metastatic breast carcinoma to the bladder are described in this report, including one case with a tumor to tumor metastasis. The patients ranged from 51 to 83 years of age. The time intervals between the diagnosis of primary breast cancer and the occurrence of bladder metastases ranged from 41 to 336 months. There were seven cases of invasive ductal carcinoma and four cases of invasive lobular carcinoma. In one case, a lobular carcinoma of the breast metastasized to a concurrent squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder. The immunophenotypic status of estrogen receptor and Her2 expression of the metastatic carcinomas were all concordant with the primary tumors. In nine patients with follow-up available, seven patients died of the disease ranging from 1 to 23 months after the diagnosis of the bladder metastasis and two patients were alive at 5 months of follow-up. To date, this report is the largest single series of patients with breast carcinoma metastatic to the bladder. It is the first reported instance of lobular carcinoma of the breast metastasizing to a squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder.

Both metastatic tumors and breast cancer metastases in the thyroid gland are rare. Tumor metastasis into a primary thyroid cancer is rarer. We present a case with breast cancer metastasis into a metachronous thyroid papillary carcinoma which is the only case in literature.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a rare clinical phenomenon variably defined within the literature. Breast and lung cancers are the most common sites of origin, while renal cell carcinoma is the most common site of receipt. Cases wherein the recipient malignancy is of thyroid origin are exceedingly rare. We report on a case of melanoma metastatic to a papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). We review related literature and re-evaluate relevant clinical definitions.

Background: Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is an extremely rare but interesting phenomenon. Prostatic cancer metastasizing to malignant solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the lung has not been previously reported.Case Presentation: In this report, we describe the case of a 60-year-old man presenting a large solitary neoplasm in the left lung on computed tomography. Pathology after left lung wedge resection indicated two different cancerous cell components: SFT cells with malignant potential and prostatic cancer cells. The heterogeneous cells of prostatic origin were confirmed by using evidence from fine needle aspiration and pathology after radical prostatectomy.Conclusions: We report the first tumor-to-tumor metastasis of prostatic cancer to lung malignant SFT.

Salivary gland adenocarcinoma not otherwise specified (NOS) is a malignant epithelial tumor composed of ductal/glandular structures with or without cystic formation. Histologically it is classified as high grade with relevant biological behavior. Although both minor and major glands may be involved, the majority (60%) implicate the parotid gland. Location, regional lymph node status, and histological grade are some of the factors that predict the progress of the disease and the development of metastases. Long follow-up is considered the standard option as distant metastases (DM) may occur despite regional control. Primary sites of DM, besides lymph nodes, include bone, lung, and liver. Herein we report a unique case of a 68-year-old female with a previous history of high-grade adenocarcinoma NOS of her right parotid gland. On her biannual follow-up examination, MRI revealed an abnormal increase in the size of a known uterine leiomyoma of the posterior uterine wall. Positron emission tomography-CT (PET-CT) showed increased uptake in the uterus and lungs. On frozen section, adenocarcinoma was found at the center of the leiomyoma. Histological and immunohistochemical findings were consistent with secondary involvement by the salivary gland adenocarcinoma NOS. Treatment consisted of cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, and cisplatin with poor outcome. The patient was lost to follow-up. Review of the literature indicates that no similar case has been reported in the English literature.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a rare phenomenon defined as a metastasis in a histologically distinct tumor. We report an unusual case of a 51-yr-old woman who presented with a cervical, bleeding lesion diagnosed as a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, HPV18+. Imaging studies revealed an unresectable cervical carcinoma with an associated left ovarian multicystic teratoma. A suspicious solid nodule within the teratoma was also reported. Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed before the cervical tumor was treated. Pathologic findings showed a multicystic tumor measuring 110×40×30 mm with an area of adenocarcinoma, morphologically similar to the cervical neoplasm. The immunoprofile obtained in the malignant ovarian component (p16+, carcinogenic embryonic antigen+, vimentin-, estrogen receptor-) was similar to the one in the cervix. Moreover, both lesions harbored HPV18. These findings confirmed the presence of a metastatic cervical adenocarcinoma in a mature cystic teratoma. In the differential diagnosis, both somatic malignant transformation of the mature cystic teratomas and the presence of a "collision tumor" were considered and are discussed in this case report.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and prostatic adenocarcinoma (PCa), occurring as a double primary is uncommon, but well documented. However, metastatic PCa in a RCC is quite rare. We report a case of an 81-year old male chemical engineer with history of hematuria and prostatomegaly suspicious for carcinoma, who underwent left radical nephrectomy for a renal mass. Histopathology revealed RCC that harbored an undiagnosed PCa. Periureteral tumor deposit likewise showed combined metastasis of RCC and PCa. Warthin’s tumor WT is a benign salivary gland neoplasm consisting of both epithelial and lymphoid components. Metastasis of an squamous cell carcinoma SCC to WT is extremely rare and the differential diagnosis of malignant transformation is important. We present a case with SCC metastatic to the WT of parotid gland in a 71- year-old male patient., Warthin tümörü WT , hem epitel ve lenfoid bileşenden oluşan iyi huylu bir tükürük bezi tümörüdür. WT'ne skuamöz hücrelikarsinom SHK metastazı son derece nadirdir ve ayırıcı tanısında malign transformasyon önemlidir. Biz, 71- yaşındaki erkek hastada parotis bezinin WT'ne metastaz yapmış SHK olgusunu sunuyoruz.

Background Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a well-recognized but uncommon entity. Breast carcinoma is one of the most common metastatic donors. Breast carcinoma metastasizes commonly to adrenal glands. However, the co-existence of a metastatic lesion with an existing adrenal tumor is a rare finding. Case presentation A 35-year-old woman was diagnosed with pheochromocytoma using computed tomography and ultrasound examinations. The tumor was surgically removed. Histological and immunohistochemical staining suggested that there were two components in the tumor: pheochromocytoma and metastatic cancer. Conclusion This is the second published case of pheochromocytoma with tumor-to-tumor metastasis from an invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. Furthermore, we highlight the importance of awareness of tumor-to-tumor metastasis in pathological diagnosis.

Glioblastoma is a tumor with widely variable morphology. It may rarely show pseudoepithelial components or true epithelial differentiation. Metastasis to glioblastomas have been previously reported, but were unsupported by immunohistochemical or molecular analyses. Herein we describe a glioblastoma with carcinomatous foci in a patient with no past clinical history of tumors outside the central nervous system. The carcinomatous foci expressed epithelial, but not glial markers. Therefore, whole-body imaging was carried out to verify the presence of carcinoma. A lung mass was biopsied and it resulted as primary lung adenocarcinoma. Carcinomatous foci of glioblastoma and lung adenocarcinoma had the same KRAS mutation which was absent in glial areas of the glioblastoma. Thus, glioblastoma with tumor-to-tumor metastasis was diagnosed. This case demonstrates that, albeit rare, metastases to glioblastoma may occur, and they should be considered in the differential diagnosis of glioblastoma with carcinomatous foci. Even when the past clinical history is negative, the presence of carcinoma should be investigated to rule out glioblastoma with tumor-to-tumor metastasis.

The tumor-to-tumor metastasis is exclusively rare finding, in which one malignant neoplasia metastasizes to another tumor of different origin.The author describes an 68-year-old woman, who was found to have a solitary tumor in the right kidney, as well as multiple tumor nodules in the liver. She underwent a radical nephrectomy. A histology of lesion in the kidney revealed a conventional clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) harboring multiple metastatic foci of another adenocarcinoma. At that time, there was not possible to reliably specify a primary source. Subsequently, a probatory excision of tumor lesion in the liver was also done. A microscopy confirmed an adenocarcinoma with a similar appearance as found in RCC. Due to unfavourable health condition, a paliative chemotherapy could not be realized and the patient died shortly thereafter. A primary origin of adenocarcinoma remained unclear.A unique case of metastatic adenocarcinoma is described, that was initially diagnosed as an incidental finding within a clear cell RCC of the kidney. Such unexpected feature may represent a great diagnostic challenge for both, pathologist and clinician. From a prognostic point of view, an evidence of intratumoral cancer metastasis within a primary RCC is usually an indicator of disseminated oncologic disease with a poor outcome. Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is an uncommon phenomenon, and a metastasis from an extracranial donor tumor to an intracranial recipient tumor is extremely rare. In particular, there are only 14 cases reported in the literature that describe a tumor-to-tumor metastasis involving a glioma. We present a rare case of an 83-year-old man with an 11-year history of lentigo maligna melanoma who presented with impaired balance and cognitive slowing and was found to have rapid progression of a previously known indolent right frontal brain mass. Pathologic examination of the tumor after resection revealed the presence of both malignant melanoma and an oligodendroglioma WHO grade II. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of malignant melanoma metastasizing to an oligodendroglioma that has been confirmed by immunohistochemistry and genetic analysis.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a very rare event. We report three cases of tumor metastasizing in a clear cell renal cell carcinoma: two breast carcinomas and a sigmoid carcinoma. So we objectified a prevalence of 1.5% of renal tumors in our series. It's a rare situation but to be considered in daily practice because it changes oncological management offered to the patient. According to the literature, clear cell renal cell carcinoma is the most common tumor recipient of metastasis. Several physiopathological mechanisms can explain this phenomenon, but many of them are still unknown. A better understanding of this phenomenon makes it possible to improve the diagnosis and thus the management of patients with several cancers.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis with schwannoma as a recipient tumor is very rare. There have been no reports on tumor to spinal schwannoma metastasis. We report a case of a 57-year-old woman who presented with neck pain and who turned out to have cervical spinal nerve schwannoma with breast carcinoma metastasis.

We report the case of 55-year-old female with biopsy-proven clear cell renal cell carcinoma with a suspicious lesion found in the liver who presented for right radical nephrectomy and partial hepatectomy. Histologic evaluation of the hepatic specimen demonstrated metastatic renal cell carcinoma within a hepatic hemangioma. Herein we provide a review of the literature for this uncommon scenario.

Radiation-induced meningioma and pituitary carcinoma are both uncommon. Tumor-to-tumor metastasis (TTM) from pituitary carcinoma to meningioma, to our knowledge, has not been previously reported. A 67-year old man presented with a previous history of transcranial subtotal resection of pituitary adenoma, at the age of 36, followed by radiotherapy. The follow-up was uneventful for the following 31 years. The patient presented with worsening sight and numbness of the right arm. Three separate lesions were found on MRI. Histological examinations revealed pituitary carcinomas and TTM from pituitary carcinoma to meningioma. A constant surveillance is necessary for patients with pituitary tumor, especially those followed by radiotherapy.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a rare, but well-recognized phenomenon. Here, we report a unique case of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) metastatic to parathyroid adenoma. A 53-year-old-man with a history of HCC presented with hypercalcemia. It was found that he also had hyperparathyroidism with a hypoechoic mass in the lower portion of the right thyroid gland area. The patient underwent parathyroidectomy, and a mass measuring 1.5 × 1.0 cm was detected. Microscopic and immunohistochemical examination disclosed parathyroid adenoma with a focus of metastatic HCC. For the patient, it was the only distant metastasis revealed until the last follow-up. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of tumor-to-tumor metastasis in which HCC is the donor.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis (T2Tmets) is an established entity but often overlooked and underdiagnosed. Merely 84 such cases are reported in literature till date. The authors here describe a 65-year-old man presenting with first episode of focal seizure and incidentally turned out to be a case of adenocarcinoma of lung metastatic to a meningioma. The diagnosis of T2Tmets was based solely on histopathological criteria. Recent advent of brain imaging revolutionized its diagnosis and it has moved from the realm of thologists to that of radiologists. In our case, diagnosis was also established by immunohistochemistry.

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis (TTM) is a rare phenomenon and usually involves urological malignancies. This case report describes a 68-year-old female with end stage metastatic breast cancer that underwent excision of thoracic intradural tumor. Histopathological analysis of the lesion revealed two separate cell population. This is the first documented case of TTM seen going to the spine.

Collision tumors are the rare phenomenon of two histologically distinct tumors occurring in the same anatomic location. We report an unusual case of metastatic breast carcinoma colliding with primary grade 1 chondrosarcoma in the femur of a 58-year-old female.

Se reporta un caso excepcional de tumor de Krukenberg ovárico bilateral asociado a teratoma maduro encontrado en una mujer de 54 años. La ecografía mostró al lado derecho tumor ovárico sólido de 55 mm y al lado izquierdo tumor quístico de 125 mm. Se realizó histerectomía total, salpingooforectomía bilateral, resección del epiplón mayor y muestras peritoneales. Al tercer día postcirugía, la paciente presentó signos de tromboembolismo pulmonar masivo y aunque recibió terapia anticoagulante falleció al quinto día postoperatorio. El estudio histológico mostró infiltración masiva de carcinoma de células en anillo positivas para citoqueratina en ambos ovarios. El ovario derecho mostró la forma sólida clásica del tumor de Krukenberg mientras que el ovario izquierdo correspondió a un quiste dermoide con infiltración tumoral de carcinoma de células en anillo en la pared. An exceptional case of bilateral Krukenberg tumor of the ovary associated with mature teratoma presented in a 54 years old patient is reported. The ultrasound showed a 55 mm solid right ovarian tumor and a 125 mm left cystic ovarian tumor. Hysterectomy and bilateral salpingoophorectomy was performed including omental resection and peritoneal biopsies. Massive pulmonary embolism was detected in the third day after the surgery. Even anticoagulant therapy was established the patient died in the fifth postoperative day. The histological study revealed massive infiltration of signet ring cell carcinoma with positive expression for cytokeratin in both ovaries. The right ovary showed the classical solid form of the tumor. The left ovary was a dermoid cyst with signet ring cell carcinoma infiltrating the cystic wall.
