The present work was carried out to observe the comparative effectiveness of different chemical treatments in combination with simultaneous thermal treatment on soluble and insoluble dietary fibre ratio to improve functional properties of barley. For this purpose, two varieties of barley i.e., Haider-93 and Jau-87 were assessed for their chemical composition, mineral, non-starch polysaccharides and dietary fibre contents through respective methods. Next, both varieties were chemically treated with acid, alkaline and consecutive acid-alkaline treatments in combination with thermal treatment. Results of chemical composition revealed that Jau-87 was higher in moisture (11.4%), crude fat (2.67%) and crude fibre (4.70%) whereas Haider-93 exhibited higher ash (2.56%) and crude protein content (12.7%). Moreover, barley was rich source of potassium ranging from 4.77-5.07 g/kg. Likewise, main non-starch polysaccharides in barley were arabinoxylan (3.60-3.77%) and β-glucan (3.65-3.67%). Furthermore, barley contained more insoluble dietary fibre (12.00-12.40 g/100 g dm) than soluble dietary fibre (4.73-5.70 g/100 g dm). Additionally, modification of soluble (1.48%) and insoluble dietary fibre (8.71%) ratio through extrusion processing was non-significant whilst acid-alkaline treatment showed highly significant results i.e., 771.46% increase in soluble dietary fibre and 53.39% decrease in insoluble dietary fibre It was therefore concluded that chemical treatments alone or in combination with twin-screw extrusion increased soluble dietary fibre. ABSTRACT: Crosstalk between metal ions and fungal pathogens induces negative effect on growth of sensitive plants. The present study was designed to assess effect of the chromium (VI) stress on germination, seedlings growth and metal accumulation in chili (Capsicum annuum L.), under biotic stress of Sclerotium rolfsii sacc. It was found that the chili seedling accumulated more chromium and became more sensitive under combined application of S. rolfsii and Cr(VI), in comparison to the individual stress of either pathogen or metal. Inhibitory effect of Cr(VI) was increased at higher concentrations. Roots exhibited the highest sensitivity against the given stresses. The findings of this study are alarming for future evaluation of plant health risk associated with cultivation of edible plants in soil contaminated with fungal pathogens and toxic heavy metals. Intrasaccular flow disruption has become established for the treatment of wide necked and bifurcation aneurysms. The most successful current devices are the WEB (Microvention) and Contour (Stryker). The Artisse (Medtronic) is a novel intrasaccular device designed to treat a variety of aneurysm morphologies. The first generation Artisse device was used in clinical trials in 2016.1 This device has now been significantly modified, and this video discusses the second generation (video 1). The current device features a dual layer, 72 wire mesh basket. It includes an atraumatic, off-center distal tip to prevent aneurysm dome damage during deployment, and proximal and distal marker bands for improved visibility. There are currently limited sizes of the device compared with the WEB. Deployment is via a 0.021 inch microcatheter. This study aimed to develop ultrasonically-assisted, alcohol-free, and noncorrosive aqueous zein/turmeric essential oil (TEO)-loaded nanoemulsions (NEs) to stimulate pullulan/carboxymethyl chitosan (P/CMCS)-based edible films for mango fruit preservation. The influence of innovative sonicated zein/TEO-based NEs (ZTNEs) as nanofillers on the physico-mechanical characteristics of the resulting P/CMCS edible films was investigated. A stable and well-dispersed ZTNE was achieved using 20 % zein with 10 min of ultrasound treatment, leading to a reduced droplet size (194.23 ± 0.41 nm) and high ζ-potential (-48.72 ± 0.74 mV). Furthermore, the homogeneity of the ZTNE dispersion, evaluated via confocal laser microscopy (CLSM) analysis, indicated that it can be uniformly incorporated into P/CMCS edible films. In addition, the incorporation of ZTNE into P/CMCS edible films improved barrier properties, mechanical strength, oxidative stability, and antimicrobial properties compared with P/CMCS edible films without ZTNE, possibly due to hydrogen bonding in the film matrix, as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs as well as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Interestingly, the results indicated that P/CMCS/ZTNE/US 10 min and P/CMCS/ZTNE 4 % films demonstrated substantial antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (11.54 ± 0.72 and 16.62 ± 1.13 mm, respectively) and Staphylococcus aureus (12.81 ± 1.03 and 14.13 ± 0.69 mm), respectively. Moreover, P/CMCS/ZTNE/US 10 min and P/CMCS/ZTNE 4 % films were found to be effective in mango preservation over a 12-day storage period at 25 °C ± 1 °C, as assessed by fruit firmness, weight loss, total soluble solid content, total phenolic content, lipoxygenase activity, and electronic nose analysis. Metal batteries have captured significant attention for high-energy applications, owing to their superior theoretical energy densities. However, their practical viability is impeded by severe dendrite formation and poor cycling stability. To alleviate these issues, a 3D-structured bimetallic-Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x based fiber electrode was fabricated in this study and analyzed experimentally and computationally. The bimetallic Mo-Ti composition of MXenes synergistically achieved low binding and formation energies with lithium. In particular, the minimal lattice mismatch between the deposited Li metal and the Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x MXene anode substrate led to improved Li formation energy with respect to the MXene surface. Moreover, the synergy of the bimetallic Mo-Ti composition of the Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x MXene fiber substrate helped to amplify ion diffusion and reversible charge transfer. Consequently, the bimetallic MXene electrode exhibited an impressive Coulombic efficiency (99.08%) even at a high current density (5 mA cm -2 ) and a fixed cutoff capacity of 1 mA h cm -2 with prolonged cycle life (650 cycles). This report highlights a promising advancement in addressing the critical challenges facing metal battery operation, thereby offering an approach to improving performance for high-energy applications.

Malaria has posed a momentous health and economic burden to the Sub-Saharan African region. The Sub-Saharan African region accounts for more than 90% of global malaria-related mortality and morbidity. Pregnant women and children under 5 years old are the most vulnerable. Mosquitoes transmit the plasmodium which is the parasite responsible for malaria. The climatic conditions, poverty, and poor healthcare system of the Sub-Saharan African region are some factors fueling this menace. There have been concerted efforts to annihilate malaria but the scuffle has been a tedious one. Malarial eradication campaigns have been focused on mosquito control through the use of insecticide-treated bed nets, use of indoor insecticide sprays, and use of larvicides. The use of artemisinin in combination with other drugs has been effective to some extent. Despite the aforementioned strategies, the pervasiveness of malaria infection in the Sub-Saharan African region is worrisome. Thus, strengthening the already existing control measures, finding novel measures through intensive research, and embracing malaria vaccination could help accelerate the overcoming of this scuffle. Despite significant progress in developing artificial synapses to emulate the human nervous system for bio-signal transmission, synapses with thermo-adaptive coloration and soft actuators driven by temperature change have seldom been reported. Herein, a photonic neuro-actuating synaptic skin is presented enabling thermoresponsive synaptic signal transmission, color variation, and actuation. First, a thermoresponsive display synapse is developed based on a 3-terminal ion-gel transistor with a poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly (styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) semiconducting channel mixed with 2D titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) MXene and a thermo-adaptive 1D block copolymer (BCP) photonic crystal (PC) gate insulator. Temperature-dependent synaptic behavior is successfully observed in the ion-gel transistor with the corresponding structural colors, leading to a thermo-adaptive display synapse. The 3 × 3 arrays of thermo-adaptive display synapses with Joule heaters show that each pixel is controlled by the thermoresponsive structural color and synaptic output. The synaptic output current from the MXene ion-gel transistor can be converted and amplified to a voltage signal, which powers a soft actuator connected to the ion-gel display synapse and triggers temperature-dependent actuation related to the thermoresponsive synaptic performance. Developing a single-component epoxy system is challenging but crucial for advanced thermoset applications. Unfortunately, conventional latent curing agents using chemical or physical passivation do not provide satisfactory storage stability and the necessary property requirements. Here, it is demonstrated that all-in-one epoxy/MXene nanocomposite system, comprising epoxy resin, polymeric imidazole latent curing agent beads (PILCAB), and Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, exhibits excellent storage stability, improved flame retardancy, and enhanced mechanical strength. PILCABs, prepared through a Diels-Alder (DA) crosslinking reaction between furan groups of poly(imidazolyl methacrylate)-random poly (furfuryl methacrylate) (PIm-r-PFu) copolymer and bismaleimide (BMI), exhibit excellent storage stability, as stable as under 60 °C storage due to the imidazole reactivity being suppressed synergistically by both physical and chemical passivation mechanisms. Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene flakes, surface-functionalized with alkylated 3,4-dihydroxyl-L-phenylalanine, exhibit excellent compatibility with the epoxy matrix. Consequently, the enhanced storage stability, flame retardancy, and mechanical strength of the all-in-one epoxy/MXene nanocomposite are attributed to the strong DA bond formation in latent curing agent, efficient charring capability of MXene and BMI, and the catalytic effect of the MXene. This study investigates the effects of multi-frequency ultrasound treatment on the quality of frozen dough. We analyzed frozen wheat dough comprehensively for texture, viscosity, rheology, and structural quality characteristics under multi-frequency ultrasound (20 kHz, 20/40 kHz, and 20/40/60 kHz) with different treatment times (10, 20, and 30 mins). The dough treated with multi-frequency ultrasound increased elasticity and reduced hardness. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that 20/40/60 kHz for 30 min minimized freezing-induced morphological damage, decreased the tan δ in rheological analysis, and led to higher pasting and gelatinization enthalpy in starch granules, resulting in a more cohesive structure and lower free water content. Frozen dough hardness decreased by 52.1 %, which is associated with the control frozen dough with ultrasound frequency and duration changes. The spectral peaks in wheat flour frozen dough treated with single, dual, and tri-frequency ultrasound had the same forms and positions as the control samples but were arranged in an orderly manner. The production of high-quality noodles relies on using premium-quality wheat flour. There is growing interest in using nonthermal technologies (NTTs), like ultrasound, high hydrostatic pressure (HHP), and plasma techniques, to enhance the nutritional properties of wheat flour starch and protein, specifically its digestibility. This review compiles the impact of these nonthermal technologies on wheat flour characteristics for optimal noodle preparation. Ultrasound applications can modify protein networks and starch granules in wheat flour, resulting in improved consistency and texture of noodles. High hydrostatic pressure (HHP) treatments have been observed to effectively alter protein specificity, thereby forming desirable textural attributes such as hardness and firmness. Consequently, this process significantly contributes to the overall improvement in the quality of the noodles. Additionally, HHP treatments promote gelatinization within structures, improving noodle digestibility. On the other hand, plasma treatment modifies the structure and properties of gluten, enhancing dough rheology and stability and improving the texture, nutrition, and sensory attributes of noodles. The modifications induced by ultrasound HHP and plasma treatments in gluten structure enzymatic potential, starch granules, and protein functionality collectively enhance noodle characteristics. The quality of bicycle path surfaces significantly influences the comfort of cyclists. This study evaluates the effectiveness of smartphone sensor data and smart bicycle lights data in assessing the roughness of bicycle paths. The research was conducted in Hasselt, Belgium, where various bicycle path pavement types, such as asphalt, cobblestone, concrete, and paving tiles, were analyzed across selected streets. A smartphone application (Physics Toolbox Sensor Suite) and SEE.SENSE smart bicycle lights were used to collect GPS and vertical acceleration data on the bicycle paths. The Dynamic Comfort Index (DCI) and Root Mean Square (RMS) values from the data collected through the Physics Toolbox Sensor Suite were calculated to quantify the vibrational comfort experienced by cyclists. In addition, the data collected from the SEE.SENSE smart bicycle light, DCI, and RMS computed results were categorized for a statistical comparison. The findings of the statistical tests revealed no significant difference in the comfort assessment among DCI, RMS, and SEE.SENSE. The study highlights the potential of integrating smartphone sensors and smart bicycle lights for efficient, large-scale assessments of bicycle infrastructure, contributing to more informed urban planning and improved cycling conditions. It also provides a low-cost solution for the city authorities to continuously assess and monitor the quality of their cycling paths.

A late adolescent patient was admitted after a collapse and was found to have an intracranial haemorrhage due to an underlying midline arteriovenous malformation (AVM). The patient underwent trans-arterial squid embolisation of the AVM with good radiological resolution. 18 months later, the patient presented with new onset headaches. Cranial imaging demonstrated an enhancing lesion at the site of the previously thrombosed AVM in the corpus callosum. This was deemed to be a foreign body granuloma, a rare complication of intravascular embolisation of AVMs. The patient continued to have periodic imaging with subsequent scans demonstrating progressive changes in the granuloma and this was then resected surgically. The subsurface flow of particular phosphate (P) has been recently regarded as a vital P transport path. Humic acid (HA) and P usually coexist in the natural environment and show a strong affinity to iron (Fe) (oxyhydr)oxide. The impact of P and HA on Fe (oxyhydr)oxide stability and transport is critical for evaluating the vertical transport of particular P and biogeochemical processes of Fe and P. This study investigated the effect of inorganic (IP) and organic (OP) phosphate on the stability and transport of ferrihydrite and goethite with HA through stability tests and column experiments. The adsorption of IP or OP on Fe (oxyhydr)oxide enhanced the stability and transport of Fe (oxyhydr)oxide, and OP showed a stronger enhancement than IP due to its stronger binding capacity and more negative surface. Compared with ferrihydrite, goethite had fewer adsorption sites for IP or OP and showed strong stability and transport at low IP (50 μM) or OP (10 μM) concentration. HA decreased IP or OP adsorption on Fe (oxyhydr)oxide through competition adsorption and electrostatic repulsion. The formed ternary phosphate-Fe (oxyhydr)oxide-HA complex showed a more negative surface and strong stability and transport. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a non-protein amino acid primarily biosynthesized in cereals, is vital to the human neurological system. As the primary neurotransmitter, it promotes relaxation, inhibits depression and sleeplessness, and regulates synaptic transmission and neuronal development. GABA also protects the liver, kidneys, and intestines, reduces blood pressure, and fights cancer and inflammation. Colorimetric and enzyme-based procedures, biosensors, and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography primarily detect GABA. GABA content is enriched by treatments, like germination and fermentation, suitable and economical methods on industrial scales. Moreover, ultrasonication, abiotic stress, heat, and relative humidity are also utilized for GABA enrichment. With advancing technology and knowledge of the nutrients concerning human health, target-specific nutrition utilizing sustainable ingredients needs exploration. Background: The posterior communicating artery (PComA) is among the most common intracranial aneurysm locations, but flow diverter (FD) treatment with the widely used pipeline embolization device (PED) remains an off-label treatment that is not well understood. PComA aneurysm flow diversion is complicated by the presence of fetal posterior circulation (FPC), which has an estimated prevalence of 4-29% and is more common in people of black (11.5%) than white (4.9%) race. We present the FD-PComA in-silico trial (IST) into FD treatment performance in PComA aneurysms. ISTs use computational modeling and simulation in cohorts of virtual patients to evaluate medical device performance., Methods: We modeled FD treatment in 118 virtual patients with 59 distinct PComA aneurysm anatomies, using computational fluid dynamics to assess post-treatment outcome. Boundary conditions were prescribed to model the effects of non-fetal and FPC, allowing for comparison between these subgroups., Results: FD-PComA predicted reduced treatment success in FPC patients, with an average aneurysm space and time-averaged velocity reduction of 67.8% for non-fetal patients and 46.5% for fetal patients (P < 0.001). Space and time-averaged wall shear stress on the device surface was 29.2 Pa averaged across fetal patients and 23.5 Pa across non-fetal (P < 0.05) patients, suggesting FD endothelialization may be hindered in FPC patients. Morphological variables, such as the size and shape of the aneurysm and PComA size, did not affect the treatment outcome., Conclusions: FD-PComA had significantly lower treatment success rates in PComA aneurysm patients with FPC. Certain carotene components, such as lycopene and beta-carotene, are found in tomatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, etc. and are good for human health. It gives plants their distinctive red color. A class of lipid-soluble natural pigments known as carotenoids is the precursor of vitamin A and is vital for antioxidant defense against peroxides in cells and tissues. This review provides an overview of the current state of knowledge and research on the sources, structures, physiochemical properties, absorption and metabolism, functional advantages, and prevention of many diseases associated with lycopene and beta-carotene. These antioxidants have been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, and they also help draw pollinators to flowers. Carrots and sweet potatoes are also rich sources of beta-carotene, which strengthens the immune system and improves eye health. The vivid color of many plants reproductive organs, including flowers and fruits, is caused by carotenoid, a secondary metabolite that is produced in plastids. The distinctive red color and many other health advantages are attributed to lycopene. When ingested through food or supplements, lycopene and beta-carotene help manage and prevent a number of diseases, including cancer, metabolic, inflammatory, cardiovascular, hepatic, ophthalmic, skeletal, and infertility disorders. Background: The Pipeline Vantage Embolization Device (PEDV) is the fourth-generation pipeline flow diverter for intracranial aneurysm treatment. There are no outcome studies for the second PEDV version. We aimed to evaluate safety and efficacy outcomes. Primary and secondary objectives were to determine outcomes for unruptured and ruptured cohorts, respectively., Methods: In this multicenter retrospective and prospective study, we analyzed outcome data from eight centers using core laboratory assessments. We determined 30-day and ≥3-month mortality and morbidity rates, and 6- and 18-month radiographic aneurysm occlusion rates for procedures performed during the period July 2021-March 2023., Results: We included 121 consecutive patients with 131 aneurysms. The adequate occlusion rate for the unruptured cohort at short-term and medium-term follow up, and also for the ruptured cohort at short-term follow up, was >90%. Two aneurysms (1.5%) underwent retreatment. When mortality attributed to a palliative case in the unruptured cohort, or subarachnoid hemorrhage in the ruptured cohort, was excluded then the overall major adverse event rate in respective cohorts was 7.5% and 23.5%, with 0% mortality rates for each. When all event causes were included on an intention-to-treat basis, the major adverse event rates in respective cohorts were 8.3% and 40.9%, with 0.9% and 22.7% mortality rates., Conclusions: For unruptured aneurysm treatment, the second PEDV version appears to have a superior efficacy and similar safety profile to previous-generation PEDs. Background: Breast cancer is a significant global health challenge, contributing substantially to cancer- related deaths. Conventional treatment methods, including hormone therapy, chemotherapy, surgical interventions, and radiation, have long been utilized. However, these traditional treatments are often associated with serious side effects and drug resistance, limiting their efficacy., Aim: This review aims to explore the potential of medicinal plants used in breast cancer management in East Africa, focusing on their bioactive compounds and anticancer properties., Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted to examine the effectiveness of medicinal plants in treating breast cancer across Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Relevant studies published between 2003 and 2023 were identified using keywords related to breast cancer and medicinal plants. The search was performed across multiple databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, and Science Direct., Results: Numerous natural compounds found in East African medicinal plants including Cymbopogon citratus (Lemongrass,) Tabebuia avellanedae, Prunus africana (African Cherry), Euclea divinorum, Berberis holstii, Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha, Curcuma longa (Turmeric), Garcinia mangostana (Mangosteen, Vitis vinifera (Grapevine), Eugenia jambolana (Java Plum), Moringa oleifera (Drumstick Tree), Camellia sinensis (Tea), Glycine max (Soybean), Catharanthus roseus, Madagascar Periwinkle), Rhus vulgaris (Wild Currant) exhibit significant anticancer properties. These compounds have demonstrated the ability to reduce breast cancer aggressiveness, inhibit cancer cell proliferation, and modulate cancer-related pathways. Current research focuses on these natural and dietary compounds to develop more effective strategies for treating breast cancer., Conclusion: The findings suggested that East African medicinal plants hold promise as complementary treatments for breast cancer, offering potential benefits such as affordability, cultural appropriateness, and sustainability. Further research into these plants and their bioactive compounds could revolutionize breast cancer treatment, improving survival rates and addressing the rising incidence of breast cancer-related fatalities. MXenes have garnered significant attention due to their atomically thin two-dimensional structure with metallic electronic properties. However, it has not yet been fully achieved to discover semiconducting MXenes to implement them into gate-tunable electronics such as field-effect transistors and phototransistors. Here, a semiconducting Ti 4 N 3 T x MXene synthesized by using a modified oxygen-assisted molten salt etching method under ambient conditions, is reported. The oxygen-rich synthesis environment significantly enhances the etching reaction rate and selectivity of Al from a Ti 4 AlN 3 MAX phase, resulting in well-delaminated and highly crystalline Ti 4 N 3 T x MXene with minimal defects and high content of F and O, which led to its improved hydrophobicity and thermal stability. Notably, the synthesized Ti 4 N 3 T x MXene exhibited p-type semiconducting characteristics, including gate-tunable electrical conductivity, with a current on-off ratio of 5 × 10 3 and a hole mobility of ∼0.008 cm 2 V -1 s -1 at 243 K. The semiconducting property crucial for thin-film transistor applications is evidently associated with the surface terminations and the partial substitution of oxygen in the nitrogen lattice, as corroborated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Furthermore, the synthesized Ti 4 N 3 T x exhibits strong light absorption characteristics and photocurrent generation. These findings highlight the delaminated Ti 4 N 3 T x as an emerging two-dimensional semiconducting material for potential electronic and optoelectronic applications.

Introduction: Understanding genetic contributors to sarcopenia (age-related loss of muscle strength and mass) is key to finding effective therapies. Variants of the bradykinin receptor 2 (BDKRB2) have been linked to athletic and muscle performance. The rs1799722-9 and rs5810761 T alleles have been shown to be overrepresented in endurance athletes, possibly due to increased transcriptional rates of the receptor. These variants have been rarely studied in older people or people with sarcopenia., Methods: We performed a post hoc sub-study of the Leucine and ACE (LACE) inhibitor trial, which enrolled 145 participants aged ≥70 years with low grip strength and low gait speed. Participants' blood samples were genotyped for rs179972 using TaqMan and rs5810761 by amplification through Hotstar Taq. Genotypes were compared with outcomes of physical performance and body composition measures., Results: Data from 136 individuals were included in the analysis. For rs1799722 the genotype frequency (TT: 17, CC: 48, CT: 71) remained in Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE p = 0.248). There was no difference between the genotypes for six-Minute Walk Distance (6MWD) or Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Men with the TT genotype had a significantly greater 6MWD than other genotypes (TT 400m vs CT 310m vs CC 314m, p = 0.027), and greater leg muscle mass (TT 17.59kg vs CT 15.04kg vs CC 15.65kg, p = 0.007). For rs5810761, the genotype frequency (-9-9: 31, +9+9: 43, -9+9: 60) remained in HWE (p = 0.269). The +9+9 genotype was associated with a significant change in SPPB score at 12 months (-9-9 0 vs -9+9 0 vs +9+9-1, p<0.001), suggesting an improvement. Zinc Cobaltite (ZCO) and Nickel Oxide (NiO) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using a sol-gel technique, and their composites with different weight ratios were prepared using a straightforward sonication method. The NiO and ZCO NPs had small crystallite size of 10 nm and 18 nm, respectively. According to the ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectra, pure NiO and ZCO NPs exhibited band gaps of ∼3.5 eV and 3.3 eV. Antibacterial activity against gram-positive ( Staphylococcus aureus ) and gram-negative ( Escherichia coli ) bacterial strains was also tested for the composite counterpart and its equivalents. Compared to pure NPs, the composite of 30 % ZCO-NiO (NZ3) had higher antibacterial activity with zone of inhibition of ∼13 mm against E. coli . Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a growing public health concern characterized by fat accumulation and severe disorders like nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which are influenced by obesity, inflammatory processes, and metabolic pathways. This research investigates the potential of silymarin-supplemented cookies in managing NAFLD by evaluating their impact on liver enzyme activity, inflammatory markers, and lipid profiles. A clinical trial in Lahore, Pakistan, involved 64 NAFLD patients. Participants were divided into placebo and three treatment groups, with the latter receiving silymarin-supplemented cookies for 3 months. The study assessed liver enzyme levels and inflammatory markers, at baseline and after the intervention, utilizing statistical analyses to evaluate differences. The lipid profile and renal function test (RFT) were also measured at baseline and after 3 months in each group for safety assessment. After 3 months, the treatment groups indicated more significant decreases in liver enzymes compared to the placebo group ( p  ≤ .05). Treatment 3 showed significant reductions in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (64.39-49.38 U/L) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (61.53-45.38 U/L). Treatment 3 also showed improvements in alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and the AST/ALT ratio. Additionally, the treatment group demonstrated a significant reduction in inflammatory markers. Treatment 3 showed a significant decrease in C-reactive protein (CRP) (6.32-3.39 mg/L) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (38.72-23.86 mm/h), indicating that individuals with NAFLD may benefit from the intervention's potential benefits in lowering inflammation. Probiotics are subjected to various edible coatings, especially proteins and polysaccharides, which serve as the predominant wall materials, with ultrasound, a sustainable green technology. Herein, sodium caseinate, inulin, and soy protein isolate composites were produced using multi-frequency ultrasound and utilized to encapsulateLactiplantibacillus plantarumto enhance its storage, thermal, and gastrointestinal viability. The physicochemical analyses revealed that the composites with 5 % soy protein isolate treated with ultrasound at 50 kHz exhibited enough repulsion forces to maintain stability, pH resistance, and the ability to encapsulate larger particles and possessed the highest encapsulation efficiency (95.95 %). The structural analyses showed changes in the composite structure at CC, CH, CO, and amino acid residual levels. Rheology, texture, and water-holding capacity demonstrated the production of soft hydrogels with mild chewing and gummy properties, carried the microcapsules without coagulation or sedimentation. With increasing phosphate (P) entering the environment during agricultural application, the subsurface flow of particular P has been recently discussed as a vital P transport pathway. Iron (oxyhydr)oxide colloid-facilitated P transport is critical for iron and P biogeochemical processes in the subsurface. This study investigated the ferrihydrite colloid-facilitated P transport through adsorption and column experiments under different P concentrations and three pH conditions. Increased P loading on ferrihydrite colloids decreased the transport of ferrihydrite colloids (< 8.0%) under acid conditions through pore straining and irreversible attachment. Under neutral and alkaline conditions, ferrihydrite colloids exhibited more negative surfaces and smaller diameters with increasing P, which further enhanced ferrihydrite colloid transport (maximum to 95.6%). Ferrihydrite colloid-facilitated P transport was limited under acid conditions, and it was 10% - 57% enhancement under neutral and alkaline conditions with increasing P adsorption. Under neutral conditions, ferrihydrite colloid-facilitated P transport was strongest (maximum to 68.84%) because of its stronger ferrihydrite colloid transport than under acid conditions and larger P adsorption capacity than under alkaline conditions. Multifunctional, flexible, and robust thin films capable of operating in demanding harsh temperature environments are crucial for various cutting-edge applications. This study presents a multifunctional Janus film integrating highly-crystalline Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and mechanically-robust carbon nanotube (CNT) film through strong hydrogen bonding. The hybrid film not only exhibits high electrical conductivity (4250 S cm -1 ), but also demonstrates robust mechanical strength and durability in both extremely low and high temperature environments, showing exceptional resistance to thermal shock. This hybrid Janus film of 15 μm thickness reveals remarkable multifunctionality, including efficient electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of 72 dB in X band frequency range, excellent infrared (IR) shielding capability with an average emissivity of 0.09 (a minimal value of 0.02), superior thermal camouflage performance over a wide temperature range (- 1 to 300 °C) achieving a notable reduction in the radiated temperature by 243 °C against a background temperature of 300 °C, and outstanding IR detection capability characterized by a 44% increase in resistance when exposed to 250 W IR radiation. Objectives . Current research aims to identify factors that affect the occupational safety climate in university laboratories despite their perception as low-risk areas compared to industrial environments. Methods . A safety climate survey was conducted in science laboratories across various engineering universities in Pakistan. The survey questionnaire was administered to 406 personnel, and a quantitative method for analysis was selected to examine the socio-demographic variables. A 5-point Likert scale (1 =  strongly disagree to 5 =  strongly agree ) was used to perceive responses from participants. Additionally, a scale reliability test was conducted, and multivariate analysis of variance was performed to determine the relationship between selected dependent and independent variables. Results . The study found an overall safety climate score of 3.16 ± 0.55, indicating a moderate to high perception of safety on a scale of 1-5. Parameters such as role in the laboratory, departments/disciplines, accident experience and safety training significantly affected the safety climate score, while gender, age group, duration in university and accident witnessing did not. Conclusion . Upper management involvement, safety communication and direct supervision are crucial for improving the safety climate of university laboratories. The study recommends the consideration of the identified significant safety climate dimensions in laboratory safety policy-making at academic institutes.

Background: Low back pain stands as a prevalent contributor to pain-related disability on a global scale. In addressing chronic low back pain (CLBP), there is a growing emphasis on incorporating psychological strategies into the management process. Among these, pain education interventions strive to reshape pain beliefs and mitigate the perceived threat of pain. This randomized controlled trial sought to assess the effects of pain education on various aspects, including pain levels, disability, quality of life, self-efficacy, and prognostic characteristics in individuals grappling with CLBP., Methods: The clinical trial, retrospectively registered with the Clinical Trials Registry of India (CTRI/2021/08/035963), employed a two-arm parallel randomized design. Ninety-two participants with CLBP were randomly assigned to either the standard physiotherapy care with a pain education program or the control group. Both groups underwent a 6-week intervention. Assessment of pain intensity (using NPRS), disability (using RMDQ), self-efficacy (using the general self-efficacy scale), and well-being (using WHO 5I) occurred both before and after the 6-week study intervention., Findings: Post-intervention score comparisons between the groups revealed that the pain education intervention led to a significant reduction in disability compared to the usual standard care at 6 weeks (mean difference 8.2, p < 0.001, effect size Cohen d = 0.75), a decrease in pain intensity (mean difference 3.5, p < 0.001, effect size Cohen d = 0.82), and an improvement in the well-being index (mean difference 13.7, p < 0.001, effect size Cohen d = 0.58)., Conclusion: The findings suggest that integrating a pain education program enhances the therapeutic benefits of standard physiotherapy care for individuals dealing with chronic LBP. Background: Physician variablity in preoperative planning of endovascular implant deployment and associated inaccuracies have not been documented. This study aimed to quantify the variability in accuracy of physician flow diverter (FD) planning and directly compares it with PreSize Neurovascular (Oxford Heartbeat Ltd) software simulations., Methods: Eight experienced neurointerventionalists (NIs), blinded to procedural details, were provided with preoperative 3D rotational angiography (3D-RA) volumetric data along with images annotated with the distal landing location of a deployed Surpass Evolve (Stryker Neurovascular) FD from 51 patient cases. NIs were asked to perform a planning routine reflecting their normal practice and estimate the stent's proximal landing using volumetric data and the labeled dimensions of the FD used. Equivalent deployed length estimation was performed using PreSize software. NI- and software-estimated lengths were compared with postprocedural observed deployed stent length (control) using Bland-Altman plots. NI assessment agreement was assessed with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC)., Results: The mean accuracy of NI-estimated deployed FD length was 81% (±15%) versus PreSize's accuracy of 95% (±4%), demonstrating significantly higher accuracy for the software (p<0.001). The mean absolute error between estimated and control lengths was 4 mm (±3.5 mm, range 0.03-30.2 mm) for NIs and 1 mm (±0.9 mm, range 0.01-3.9 mm) for PreSize. No discernable trends in accuracy among NIs or across vasculature and aneurysm morphology (size, vessel diameter, tortuousity) were found., Conclusions: The study quantified experienced physicians' significant variablity in predicting an FD deployment with current planning approaches. Background: Intrasaccular devices have become increasingly popular in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, particularly at the bifurcation. Here we evaluate the Contour Neurovascular System, an intrasaccular device for the endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms, in a multicenter cohort study, the largest to the best of our knowledge., Methods: Consecutive patients with intracranial aneurysms treated with the Contour Neurovascular System between February 2017 and October 2022 at 10 European neurovascular centers were prospectively collected and retrospectively reviewed. Patient and aneurysm characteristics, procedural details, and angiographic and clinical outcomes were evaluated., Results: During the study period, 279 aneurysms (median age of patients 60 years, IQR 52-68) were treated with Contour. In 83.2% of patients the device was placed electively, whereas the remaining patients were treated in the setting of acute subarachnoid hemorrhage. The most common locations were the middle cerebral artery (26.5%) followed by the anterior communicating region (26.2%). Median aneurysm dome and neck size were 5.2 mm (IQR 4.2-7) and 3.9 mm (IQR 3-5). Contour size 7 (39%) and 9 (25%) were most used. Thromboembolic and hemorrhagic complications occurred in 6.8% and 0.4% of aneurysms, respectively. Raymond-Roy 1 and 2 occlusions at last follow-up were achieved in 63.2% and 28.3%, respectively, resulting in adequate occlusion of 91.5% of aneurysms., Conclusion: This is the largest multicenter study reporting the outcome on the Contour Neurovascular System. At 1 year, the self-evaluated data on safety and efficacy are comparable to data of existing intrasaccular devices. Background and Purpose: Endovascular treatment of wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms has historically proved difficult with variable outcomes. Different endovascular techniques such as balloon-assisted coiling, stent-assisted coiling, or intrasaccular devices provide a varied range of efficacy and safety. Neqstent-assisted coiling is a new device and technique that aim to provide a maximum of both. We analyzed the early clinical and radiologic outcomes after the use of this new technique and device in our practice., Materials and Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis of ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms treated with the Neqstent. The primary radiologic outcomes were quantified on DSA, CTA, or MRA using the modified Raymond-Roy criteria. The outcomes were defined as immediate complete occlusion (modified Raymond-Roy criteria 1) and complete (modified Raymond-Roy criteria 1) and adequate occlusion (modified Raymond-Roy criteria 1 and modified Raymond-Roy criteria 2) at 6 months posttreatment. The primary safety outcome was the rate of device-related adverse events. Secondary safety outcomes included time to discharge and change in the mRS score at 6-month follow-up., Results: Twenty patients were treated with the Neqstent from November 2020 to January 2023. Nine had unruptured aneurysms, and 11 were patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage due to ruptured aneurysms. Eighteen of 20 aneurysms (90%) treated demonstrated complete occlusion (modified Raymond-Roy criteria 1) on immediate postembolization angiograms. Sixteen of 17 aneurysms treated (94.1%) remained adequately occluded on 6-month follow-up (modified Raymond-Roy criteria 1 and modified Raymond-Roy criteria 2). Immediate postoperative complications occurred in 2 patients; only 1 patient had residual neurologic deficits at 6 months (mRS = 2)., Conclusions: Management of large, wide-neck aneurysms remains difficult, with high rates of recurrence and complications. The use of the Neqstent shows promising short-term results for the treatment of complex wide-neck aneurysms. Initial complication rates for our cohort were relatively high. Heterointerface engineering, which plays a pivotal role in developing advanced microwave-absorbing materials, is employed to design zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)-MXene nanocomposites. The ZIF-MXene composites are prepared by electrostatic self-assembly of negatively charged titanium carbide MXene flakes and positively charged Co-containing ZIF nanomaterials. This approach effectively creates abundant Mott-Schottky heterointerfaces exhibiting a robust built-in electric field (BIEF) effect, as evidenced by experimental and theoretical analyses, leading to a notable attenuation of electromagnetic energy. Systematic manipulation of the BIEF-exhibiting heterointerface, achieved through topological modulation of the ZIF, proficiently alters charge separation, facilitates electron migration, and ultimately enhances polarization relaxation loss, resulting in exceptional electromagnetic wave absorption performance (reflection loss RL min = -47.35 dB and effective absorption bandwidth f E = 6.32 GHz). Molybdenum carbide MXenes have garnered considerable attention in electronics, energy storage, and catalysis. However, they are prone to oxidative degradation, but the associated mechanisms have not been systematically explored. Therefore, the oxidation mechanisms of Mo-based single-metallic/bimetallic carbide MXenes including Mo 2 CT x , Mo 2 TiC 2 T x , and Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x in aqueous suspensions were investigated for the first time in this study. Similar to Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, Mo-based MXenes were found to undergo oxidative degradation in their aqueous dispersions, leading to the disruption of their crystal structure and subsequent loss of optical and electronic properties. Notably, the Mo 2 CT x MXene deviated from this typical oxidation behavior as it produced an amorphous product with Mo ions instead of highly crystalline Mo-oxides during oxidation. Similarly, the Mo 2 TiC 2 T x and Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x MXenes did not yield crystalline Mo-oxides; instead, they produced highly crystalline anatase TiO 2 and a Mo-ion-containing amorphous product simultaneously. Furthermore, high-temperature annealing of the oxidized Mo 2 CT x MXene powder at 800 °C transformed the amorphous Mo-containing product into highly crystalline MoO 2 crystals. These findings highlight the unconventional oxidation behavior of Mo-based MXenes, which suggests that the formation of crystalline Mo-based oxides requires a higher activation energy during oxidation than that of TiO 2 . The unique oxidative pathway reported herein can help elucidate the oxidation mechanisms of Mo-based MXene dispersions and their products. The insights from this study can pave the way for fundamental studies in academia as well as broaden the applications of Mo-based MXenes in various industries.

Fernandoa adenophylla, due to the presence of phytochemicals, has various beneficial properties and is used in folk medicine to treat many conditions. This study aimed to isolate indanone derivative from F. adenophylla root heartwood and assess in-vitro anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic characteristics at varying concentrations. Heat-induced hemolysis and glucose uptake by yeast cells assays were conducted to evaluate these properties. Besides, docking analyses were performed on four molecular targets. These studies were combined with molecular dynamics simulations to elucidate the time-evolving inhibitory effect of selected inhibitors within the active pockets of the target proteins (COX-1 and COX-2). Indanone derivative (10-100 µM) inhibited the lysis of human red blood cells from 9.12 ± 0.75 to 72.82 ± 4.36% and, at 5-100 µM concentrations, it significantly increased the yeast cells' glucose uptake (5.16 ± 1.28% to 76.59 ± 1.62%). Concluding, the isolated indanone might act as an anti-diabetic agent by interacting with critical amino acid residues of 5' adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and it showed a binding affinity with anti-inflammatory targets COX-1, COX-2, and TNF-α. Globally, 50% of people consume rice ( Oryza sativa ), which is among the most abundant and extensively ingested cereal grains. Rice bran is a by-product of the cereal industry and is also considered a beneficial waste product of the rice processing industry. Rice bran oil (RBO) is created from rice bran (20-25 wt% in rice bran), which is the outermost layer of the rice kernel; has a lipid content of up to 25%; and is a considerable source of a plethora of bioactive components. The main components of RBO include high levels of fiber and phytochemicals, including vitamins, oryzanols, fatty acids, and phenolic compounds, which are beneficial to human health and well-being. This article summarizes the stabilization and extraction processes of rice bran oil from rice bran using different techniques (including solvent extraction, microwaving, ohmic heating, supercritical fluid extraction, and ultrasonication). Some studies have elaborated the various biological activities linked with RBO, such as antioxidant, anti-platelet, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, anti-mutagenic, aphrodisiac, anti-depressant, anti-emetic, fibrinolytic, and cytotoxic activities. Due to the broad spectrum of biological activities and economic benefits of RBO, the current review article focuses on the extraction process of RBO, its bioactive components, and the potential health benefits of RBO. Furthermore, the limitations of existing studies are highlighted, and suggestions are provided for future applications of RBO as a functional food ingredient.

Cell wall polysaccharides (dietary fiber) in cereal grains contribute to health benefits. The novelty of the current study was an effort to explore the in vivo therapeutic potential of different cereal bran cell walls against hypercholesterolemia. For this purpose, the cell walls were isolated from different cereal brans (wheat, maize, oats, and barley), and the intake of these cereal bran cell walls was evaluated for their anti-lipidemic activity in normal and hypercholesterolemic rats. The serum taken from the rats was tested for cholesterol, lipid, and triglyceride profiles before and after treatment. The outcomes of the current study have shown that the cereal cell wall has a significant hypercholesterolemia effect. The biochemical parameters of the control animals were within the normal clinical ranges, indicating that the experimental diets were safe. Among cereal bran cell walls, barley bran significantly decreased cholesterol (56.35 ± 1.35 mg/dL), low-density lipoprotein (56.35 ± 1.05 mg/dL), triglycerides (105.29 ± 1.95 mg/dL), and increased high-density lipoprotein level (48.35 ± 1.35 mg/dL). Introduction: Endovascular treatment of wide neck aneurysms remains complicated with a determined and continuous technological effort towards treatment options that can offer safer and efficacious outcomes. The Woven Endobridge device was introduced in 2010 and has become a mainstay endovascular treatment for wide neck and large intracranial aneurysms. A recent review of the Woven Endobridge Clinical Assessment of Intrasaccular Aneurysm Therapy (WEBCAST) and WEBCAST2 trials and the five-year follow-up of patients was published. Our aim is to demonstrate real-life experience of aneurysms and patients treated with Woven Endobridge from a large high-volume specialist centre., Methods: A retrospective review was performed of patients treated with Woven Endobridge from March 2013 to March 2018. Primary efficacy outcomes were defined as per Raymond-Roy Occlusion Criteria (RROC) resulting in long-term complete occlusion (RROC1) and adequate occlusion (RROC1 and RROC2). Primary Safety outcomes were defined as procedure-related morbidity, rate of re-bleeding and rate of re-treatment., Results: Seventy-nine aneurysms were treated during the five-year period. Adequate aneurysm occlusion (RROC1 and RROC2) achieved was 81%. Retreatment was required in 18% of patients (14/79). Low-oxalate diets are useful for treating hyperoxaluria in nephrolithiasis patients. This study was unique in examining how a low-oxalate diet in addition to a standard diet affected hyperoxaluria and renal function tests in nephrolithiasis patients. The effects of a low-oxalate diet were analyzed by different biochemical tests, that is, anthropometric measurements, blood oxalate test, renal function test, electrolyte profile test, and 24 h urine analysis. For this purpose, 112 patients were divided into 2 groups: Group T 1 (Conventional diet) and Group T 2 (Low-Oxalate diet) for 8 weeks. Each group was tested at the initiation and end of the study. Using SPSS, the obtained data from each parameter were statistically analyzed. The results showed that a low-oxalate diet had a positive effect on patients suffering from nephrolithiasis. Furthermore, after treatment, anthropometric measurement weight (kg) among the control group (T 1 ) was 100.45 ± 5.65 and the treatment group (T 2 ) was 79.71 ± 9.48 kg. The effect of low-oxalate diet on renal function test: creatinine (g/d) among T 1 was 2.08 ± 0.86 and T 2 was 1.17 ± 0.13, uric acid(mg/d) among T 1 was 437.04 ± 24.20 and T 2 was 364.61 ± 35.99, urinary oxalate (mg/d) among T 1 was 76.84 ± 10.33 and T 2 was 39.24 ± 1.51, respectively. Sodium (mEq/d) among T 1 was 156.72 ± 6.37 and T 2 was 159.84 ± 6.31, potassium (mEq/d) among T 1 was 69.91 ± 15.37 and T 2 was 89.21 ± 6.31, phosphorus (g/d) among T 1 was 0.96 ± 0.07 and T 2 was 0.34 ± 0.27, respectively. This study demonstrated that nephrolithiasis patients with hyperoxaluria benefit from low-oxalate diets. Pseudotumoral encephalic schistosomiasis (PES) is the chronic form of cerebral neuroschistosomiasis, and is rarely encountered in clinical practice. Clinically, PES closely resembles other intracranial space-occupying lesions including brain tumors. Laboratory investigations are usually inconclusive, and neuroradiologic findings are frequently reported as non-specific. Such diagnostic difficulties may result in delayed diagnosis and treatment. Across the literature, there is a paucity of information about and controversy over many aspects of the disease. Particularly, inconsistent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, a wide variation of medical treatment protocols, lacking consensus regarding the indications of surgery, and undetermined information regarding the impact of the extent of resection on prognosis. We herein review the pertinent literature with the aim of providing focused information regarding the pathogenesis of PES, its currently identified more distinctive neuroimaging features, and the indications and extent of surgery in light of the state-of-the-art operative neurosurgical practice. A distinctive multinodular arborizing pattern of PES lesions can often be observed on MRI in patients with PES. Praziquantel is considered by many authors to be the drug of choice in all cases, and seems to be effective at variable dose regimens. Although lesion excision utilizing current technology is generally safe, the indications and extent of surgery are still undetermined and should be decided on a case-by-case basis. Due to increased pesticide usage in agriculture, a significant concentration of pesticides is reported in the environment that can directly impact humans, aquatic flora, and fauna. Utilizing microalgae-based systems for pesticide removal is becoming more popular because of their environmentally friendly nature, ability to degrade pesticide molecules into simpler, nontoxic molecules, and cost-effectiveness of the technology. Thus, this review focused on the efficiency, mechanisms, and factors governing pesticide removal using microalgae-based systems and their effect on microalgal metabolism. A wide range of pesticides, like atrazine, cypermethrin, malathion, trichlorfon, thiacloprid, etc., can be effectively removed by different microalgal strains. Some species of Chlorella, Chlamydomonas, Scenedesmus, Nostoc, etc., are documented for >90% removal of different pesticides, mainly through the biodegradation mechanism. The antioxidant enzymes such as ascorbate peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase, as well as the complex structure of microalgae cell walls, are mainly involved in eliminating pesticides and are also crucial for the defense mechanism of microalgae against reactive oxygen species. However, higher pesticide concentrations may alter the biochemical composition and gene expression associated with microalgal growth and metabolism, which may vary depending on the type of strain, the pesticide type, and the concentration. Spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase that plays an essential role in signal transduction across different cell types. In the context of allergy and autoimmune disorders, it is a crucial regulator of immune receptor signaling in inflammatory cells such as B cells, mast cells, macrophages, and neutrophils. Developing SYK kinase inhibitors has gained significant interest for potential therapeutic applications in neurological and cancer-related conditions. The clinical use of the most advanced SYK inhibitor, Fostamatinib, has been limited due to its unwanted side effects. Thus, a more targeted approach to SYK inhibition would provide a more comprehensive treatment window. In this study, we used a virtual screening approach to identify potential SYK inhibitors from natural compounds from the IMPPAT database. We identified two compounds, Isolysergic acid and Michelanugine, which showed strong affinity and specificity for the SYK binding pocket. All-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were also performed to explore the stability, conformational changes, and interaction mechanism of SYK in complexes with the identified compounds. The identified compounds might have the potential to be developed into promising SYK inhibitors for the treatment of various diseases, including autoimmune disorders, cancer, and inflammatory diseases. One of the most significant and varied plants is garden cress ( Lepidium sativum ), which has large concentrations of proteins, fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. It also contains a wide range of bioactive components, including kaempferol glucuronide, gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, coumaric acid, caffeic acid, terpenes, glucosinolates, and many more. These substances, which include antioxidant, thermogenic, depurative, ophthalmic, antiscorbutic, antianemic, diuretic, tonic, laxative, galactogogue, aphrodisiac, rubefacient, and emmengogue qualities, add to the medicinal and functional potential of garden cress. Several billion microorganisms reside in the gastrointestinal lumen, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Among them, probiotics were primarily used to cure digestive disorders such as intestinal infections and diarrhea; however, with a paradigm shift towards alleviating health through food, their importance is large. Moreover, recent studies have changed the perspective that probiotics prevent numerous ailments in the major organs. Probiotics primarily produce biologically active compounds targeting discommodious pathogens. This review demonstrates the implications of using probiotics from different genres to prevent and alleviate ailments in the primary human organs. The findings reveal that probiotics immediately activate anti-inflammatory mechanisms by producing anti-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-4, IL-10, IL-11, and IL-13, and hindering pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α by involving regulatory T cells (Tregs) and T helper cells (Th cells). Several strains of Lactobacillus plantarum , Lactobacillus rhamnosus , Lactobacillus casei , Lactobacillus reuteri , Bifidobacterium longum , and Bifidobacterium breve have been listed among the probiotics that are excellent in alleviating various simple to complex ailments. Therefore, the importance of probiotics necessitates robust research to unveil the implications of probiotics, including the potency of strains, the optimal dosages, the combination of probiotics, their habitat in the host, the host response, and other pertinent factors.

Antibiotic pollution has caused a continuous increase in the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs) in aquatic environments worldwide. Algae-based bioremediation technology is a promising eco-friendly means to remove antibiotics and highly resistant ARGs, and the generated biomass can be utilized to produce value-added products of industrial significance. This review discussed the prevalence of antibiotics and ARGs in aquatic environments and their environmental risks to non-target organisms. The potential of various microalgal species for antibiotic and ARG removal, their mechanisms, strategies for enhanced removal, and future directions were reviewed. Antibiotics can be degraded into non-toxic compounds in microalgal cells through the action of extracellular polymeric substances, glutathione-S-transferase, and cytochrome P450; however, antibiotic stress can alter microalgal gene expression and growth. Objective: Motorcycle crashes often result in severe injuries on roads that affect people's lives physically, financially, and psychologically. These injuries could be notably harmful to drivers of all age groups. The main objective of this study is to investigate the risk factors contributing to the severity of crash injuries in different age groups., Methods: This Objective is achieved by developing accurate machine learning (ML) based prediction models. This research examines the relationship between potential risk factors of motorcycle-associated crashes using (ML) and Shapley Additive explanations (SHAP) technique. The SHAP technique further helped interpreting ML methods for traffic injury severity prediction. It indicates the significant non-linear interactions between dependent and independent variables. The data for this study was collected from the Provincial Emergency Response Service RESCUE 1122 for the Rawalpindi region (Pakistan) over three years (from 2017 to 2020). The Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) is employed to balance injury severity classes in the pre-processing phase., Results: The results demonstrate that age, gender, posted speed limit, the number of lanes, and month of the year are positively associated with severe and fatal injuries. This research also assesses how the modeling framework varies between the ML and classical statistical methods. The predictive performance of proposed ML models was assessed using several evaluation metrics, and it is found that Catboost outperformed the XGBoost, Random Forest (RF) and Multinomial Logit (MNL) model., Conclusion: The findings of this study will assist road users, road safety authorities, stakeholders, policymakers, and decision-makers in obtaining substantial and essential guidance for reducing the severity of crash injuries in Pakistan and other countries with prevailing conditions.

The current study is aimed at modifying the structural makeup of potato starch through the application of heat and moisture to better control the postprandial glycemic response. Heat-moisture treatment (HMT) was used to prepare potato starch using different moisture levels and temperatures. The samples were digested with pancreatin to determine the % of easily digestible, slowly digestible, and resistant starch. Subjects were given pudding made with HMT potato starch, and their postprandial glycemic response was tracked by measuring their blood glucose levels. In addition, incremental and total incremental areas under the curve (IAUC, TIAUC) were also assessed. The current findings of in vitro enzymatic digestibility of potato starch showed inconsistent results as measured at different time intervals. Adding moisture and heating the mixture to 30 and 70°C both increased the amount of rapidly digestible starch in all of the treatments from 20 to 40%. The maximum value of slowly digestible starch was 43.63% when the sample was heated to 30°C with a moisture content of 30%. The highest value (68.46%) for resistant starch was achieved at 20% moisture level and 30°C. After eating pudding, blood sugar spiked for the first 60 and 90 min before gradually dropping off over the next 240 min. As a whole, the highest IAUC and TIAUC values, as well as the glycemic index and load, were observed in potato starch heated to 70°C, which contained 40% moisture. Background: Ageing is associated with changes in body composition including an overall reduction in muscle mass and a proportionate increase in fat mass. Sarcopenia is characterised by losses in both muscle mass and strength. Body composition and muscle strength are at least in part genetically determined, consequently polymorphisms in pathways important in muscle biology (e.g., the activin/myostatin signalling pathway) are hypothesised to contribute to the development of sarcopenia., Methods: We compared regional body composition measured by DXA with genotypes for two polymorphisms (rs10783486, minor allele frequency (MAF) = 0.26 and rs2854464, MAF = 0.26) in the activin 1B receptor (ACVR1B) determined by PCR in a cross-sectional analysis of DNA from 110 older individuals with sarcopenia from the LACE trial., Results: Neither muscle mass nor strength showed any significant associations with either genotype in this cohort. Initial analysis of rs10783486 showed that males with the AA/AG genotype were taller than GG males (174±7cm vs 170±5cm, p = 0.023) and had higher arm fat mass, (median higher by 15%, p = 0.008), and leg fat mass (median higher by 14%, p = 0.042). After correcting for height, arm fat mass remained significantly higher (median higher by 4% padj = 0.024). No associations (adjusted or unadjusted) were seen in females. Similar analysis of the rs2854464 allele showed a similar pattern with the presence of the minor allele (GG/AG) being associated with greater height (GG/AG = 174±7 cm vs AA = 170 ±5cm, p = 0.017) and greater arm fat mass (median higher by 16%, p = 0.023). Again, the difference in arm fat remained after correction for height. No similar associations were seen in females analysed alone., Conclusion: These data suggest that polymorphic variation in the ACVR1B locus could be associated with body composition in older males.
