Background: In 2021, Vietnam experienced an outbreak of Lumpy skin disease (LSD), which infected 207,687 cattle and buffaloes, as officially reported, and resulted in the culling of 29,182 animals. Aim: In this study, samples from cattle that died and showed typical signs of LSD in the Ha Tinh province of Vietnam were confirmed by three WOAH-recommended methods and further studied to compare the Vietnam and China reference strains to the new clinical cases. Methods: Three methods recommended by WOAH for agent detection (PCR, virus isolation, and transmission electron microscopy) were used to confirm this clinical LSD case. The sequence analysis of three well-known markers (P32, RPO30, and GPCR genes) has been utilised in Vietnam to understand this circulating pathogen better. Results: Our findings showed that the CX01 LSDV strain is 100% identical to the Vietnam reference strain HL01 and China reference strains based on P32 and RPO30 genes. Interestingly, analysis of the nucleotide sequence of the GPCR gene showed that the CX01 strain belongs to the same cluster as the reference strains, but it has branches different from those of both the HL01 and China LSDV strains. The nucleotide identification between the CX01 strain and these reference virus strains ranked 99.65 – 99.91%, suggesting that it is a new variant of LSDV. Conclusion: This finding is new and indicates that at least two variants of the LSD virus were circulating in Vietnam based on analysis of the GPCR gene. Additionally, these results suggest that the sequence analysis of the GPCR gene is a great tool for subgrouping LSDV circulating in Vietnam. [Open Vet J 2024; 14(7.000): 1701-1707]

Estuaries feature diverse ecosystems with great biological production and favourable resources and landscapes for ecotourism. Increasing natural disasters have threatened the lives and safety of over 70% of the region's population in recent years. Rapid urbanisation and tourism have changed land use. This changes ecosystem structure and function, impacting service provision. This study developed a Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) model to assess the imbalance between socio-economic development and resource conservation using an ecosystem services (ES) approach. The BBN model helps synthesise and exchange information, provide decision-making data, evaluate trade-off possibilities and anticipate future situations when assessing ES. The BBN network model probabilistically evaluates ecosystem services using expertise, statistical modelling, geographic information systems and interviews. We assessed the comprehensive value of 17 forms of ES for four ecosystem groups over a period of 30 years. As a result, the cultural ecosystem services of some estuarial regions in Vietnam have the highest value and are showing an increasing trend, while the regulating ecosystem services are continuously fluctuating and decreasing. Provisioning ecosystem services are stable with small changes. This study also examined ES values in six landscape categories and created two ES change scenarios. The findings can help managers choose land-use and resource exploitation policies, understand the value of ecosystem services at the regional level and develop estuary sustainability strategies for long-term ecosystem service balance.

To enable machines to understand human-centric images and videos, they need the capability to detect human–object interactions. This capability has been studied using various approaches, but previous research has mainly focused only on recognition accuracy using widely used open datasets. Given the need for advanced machine-learning systems that provide spatial analysis and services, the recognition model should be robust to various changes, have high extensibility, and provide sufficient recognition speed even with minimal computational overhead. Therefore, we propose a novel method that combines the skeletal method with object detection to accurately predict a set of $ \langle $ human, verb, object $ \rangle $ triplets in a video frame considering the robustness, extensibility, and lightweight of the model. Training a model with similar perceptual elements to those of humans produces sufficient accuracy for advanced social systems, even with only a small training dataset. The proposed model is trained using only the coordinates of the object and human landmarks, making it robust to various situations and lightweight compared with deep-learning methods. In the experiment, a scenario in which a human is working on a desk is simulated and an algorithm is trained on object-specific interactions. The accuracy of the proposed model was evaluated using various types of datasets.

Because land is an entity that possesses both biophysical and geophysical features, it can be subdivided into several land covers and put to a variety of diverse uses. In this study, transformation matrices are generated using JAXA map data in order to conduct an analysis of the inter-land variability. In Hanoi, data collection took place over the course of four years (1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020). According to Vietnam’s legislation, this timeframe is also equivalent to three phases of land use planning (LUP). According to the findings, the area of land used for urban development is expanding at a quick rate in this metropolitan region (by more than 13%), but the area used for rice production has experienced a significant decline (by approx. 23%). However, the pattern is not consistent from one planning period to the next. The research results are also linked to land use practices in Hanoi in the discussion section. This points to the compatibility with the current state of Vietnam’s linear economic growth in recent times, as well as negative issues, such as land waste and forecasts of spatial changes in Hanoi.

Tourism is not only a driving force behind the development of many urban areas in Vietnam, but also a cause of accelerating problems such as tourist overload and great pressure on infrastructure. The study’s purpose is to evaluate the impact that tourism has had on the development of metropolitan regions in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, which are the three most popular tourist destinations in Vietnam. These effects are measured through two indicators: land consumption and land use efficiency (LUE). Research data are collected through two main sources: Vietnam General Statistics Office (with population and tourist data) and JAXA (with land use data). These data were collected and compared over two periods: 2010–2015 and 2015–2020. Research results have shown that consumption is increasing in all three localities, and all three cities are expanding spatially. In particular, the period 2015–2020 shows a higher level of land consumption than the period 2010–2015. However, LUE witnessed the opposite result when the period 2010–2015 showed more efficiency than the later period. Thus, all three urban areas tend to grow more if we count the amount of tourists as residents in that locality over time. This impedes future sustainable tourism development.

PurposeComputed Tomography Angiography (CTA) is the first line of imaging in the diagnosis of Large Vessel Occlusion (LVO) strokes. We trained and independently validated end-to-end automated deep learning pipelines to predict 3-month outcomes after anterior circulation LVO thrombectomy based on admission CTAs.MethodsWe split a dataset of 591 patients into training/cross-validation (n = 496) and independent test set (n = 95). We trained separate models for outcome prediction based on admission “CTA” images alone, “CTA + Treatment” (including time to thrombectomy and reperfusion success information), and “CTA + Treatment + Clinical” (including admission age, sex, and NIH stroke scale). A binary (favorable) outcome was defined based on a 3-month modified Rankin Scale ≤ 2. The model was trained on our dataset based on the pre-trained ResNet-50 3D Convolutional Neural Network (“MedicalNet”) and included CTA preprocessing steps.ResultsWe generated an ensemble model from the 5-fold cross-validation, and tested it in the independent test cohort, with receiver operating characteristic area under the curve (AUC, 95% confidence interval) of 70 (0.59–0.81) for “CTA,” 0.79 (0.70–0.89) for “CTA + Treatment,” and 0.86 (0.79–0.94) for “CTA + Treatment + Clinical” input models. A “Treatment + Clinical” logistic regression model achieved an AUC of 0.86 (0.79–0.93).ConclusionOur results show the feasibility of an end-to-end automated model to predict outcomes from admission and post-thrombectomy reperfusion success. Such a model can facilitate prognostication in telehealth transfer and when a thorough neurological exam is not feasible due to language barrier or pre-existing morbidities.

This dataset explores the perception of happiness and job satisfaction among Vietnamese general school teachers and administrators (principals and vice-principles) in implementing a new curriculum. This study uses SPSS Statistics 26.0 and Exel to analyze data on the opinions of 782 general school teachers and administrators (principles and vice-principles) about satisfaction and happiness at work and influencing factors such as gender, age, experience, income, and workplace, workplaces, difficulties, sources of support when implementing new programs. This dataset contributes to a better understanding of the factors influencing educators' well-being and job satisfaction in the context of curriculum change, providing insights into educational policy and practice in Vietnam and beyond.

Liquid beads are core–shell particles with a liquid core and a solid shell. Calcium alginate liquid beads have been emerging as a promising platform for cell encapsulation. These beads have demonstrated their capability of encapsulating and culturing a wide range of human cells for tissue engineering. However, a significant research gap remains in the application of alginate liquid beads for encapsulating photosynthetic microorganisms. Herein, fast‐growing microalgae strain Chlorella vulgaris is encapsulated into calcium alginate liquid beads to facilitate the removal of nutrients from wastewater, minimizing the risk of eutrophication. Liquid bead‐microalgae systems are prepared, using different calcium ion concentrations as crosslinking ions. It has been thoroughly characterized for their morphologies, cell growth patterns, nutrient removal capabilities, and overall stability throughout the wastewater treatment process, with upflow anaerobic sludge blanket effluent as the wastewater model. The results indicate that the liquid bead‐microalgae system with the highest calcium ion concentration (5%) performs more efficiently, exhibiting a well‐formed crosslinking structure, leading to rapid cell growth with the highest cell density and the most effective removal of nutrients. The findings from this study provide valuable insights for future optimization and upscaling efforts in wastewater treatment systems based on calcium alginate liquid beads.

This study aims to identify suitable density of suspended trays and care regime, which was conducted from February to November 2022 at Tay Van Boi, Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba, Cat Hai - Hai Phong to improve growth, survival rates and helping to shorten the time for snout otter clam grow-out culture. The experiment was carried out with 3 treatments: Densities of 4, 8 and 12 trays/4 m2 combined with 3 care regimes during grow-out culture. The results showed that densities of 4 and 8 trays/4 m2 were higher growth than the remaining treatment, specifically length was from 32.9 - 36.8 mm and survival rate was over 84%, with a significant difference, compared to a density of 12 trays/4 m2 with 3 different care regimes. The results show that to increase productivity and reduce production costs and care time, a density of 8 trays/4 m2 with 3 care regimes/a culturing period should be chosen. The study has also propounded disease prevention and treatment measures for the Snout otter clam to help control the disease well and proposed solutions on farming techniques that contribute to high and sustainable economic efficiency.

Abstract This article introduces a novel approach named HBA‐dHoSMO, which combines a continuous decentralized higher‐order sliding mode controller‐based observer (dHoSMO) with the honey badger algorithm (HBA), specifically designed for load frequency control in multi‐area power systems (MAPSs). Traditional sliding mode controllers (SMCs) employed in load frequency control of MAPSs often face challenges related to chattering and oscillations, leading to decreased robustness and stability. Additionally, tuning the parameters for these SMC designs to achieve optimal performance in MAPSs can be challenging. The HBA‐dHoSMO is proposed to address the issues of chattering and oscillations, while the optimal parameters for SMC design are obtained using HBA. The stability analysis of the entire system is conducted using linear matrix inequality and the Lyapunov stability theory, affirming the reliability and feasibility of the approach. A comprehensive set of case studies is performed under various configurations and conditions. Additionally, particle swarm optimization and tuna swarm optimization, in conjunction with SMC‐based and proportional–integral–derivative controllers, are examined for performance comparison. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed controller across all case studies. This is evidenced by the lowest integral time absolute error values recorded as 0.0133, 6.45 × 10−4, and 0.0167 for single‐, two‐, and three‐area power systems, respectively.

Sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) is a significant aquatic economic species globally. However, the advancement of the sea cucumber aquaculture industry is impeded by its high susceptibility to elevated temperatures. To elucidate the impact of high temperature on physiological changes, gene expression, and metabolic responses in sea cucumbers, we conducted transcriptional profiling of A. japonicus under heat stress. Our results revealed 3691 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), comprising 1629 up-regulated and 2062 down-regulated genes, between the control and treatment groups. Analysis of the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Gene Ontology (GO), and Protein-Protein Interaction Networks (PPI) indicated that high-temperature stress triggered the expression of stress defense-related genes while inhibiting the expression of genes associated with development and metabolism. Furthermore, 30 out of 39 DEGs were annotated to heat shock protein genes, underscoring the crucial role of these genes in the regulatory mechanism of A. japonicus in response to heat stress. In summary, our findings provide fundamental insights for further investigation into the molecular mechanisms in A. japonicus under high-temperature stress and may contribute to the development of novel strategies for identifying heat-tolerant candidate genes through the analysis of their transcriptional changes in the future.

Higher education is regarded as being of paramount importance in Vietnam and as being essential to raising the level of the country's labor force and promoting economic progress. Evaluation of lecturers is one of the institution's activities and a crucial component of managing human resources in higher education institutions. How to evaluate faculty members' overall performance using a range of criteria is one of the key evaluation-related challenges. This study presents a method that uses fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to assess and rank the performance of lecturers. Specifically, the evaluation framework is developed by identifying criteria and sub-criteria based on a comprehensive review of existing literature. Following that, the fuzzy AHP approach is used to determine the weights of the criteria and sub-criteria using the pairwise comparisons. The Fuzzy TOPSIS approach is employed to assess and prioritize lecturers identified through expert evaluation. When applied in group decision-making, utilizing fuzzy AHP and fuzzy TOPSIS promotes agreement among decision-makers and diminishes uncertainty in decision-making processes. The utilization of the multiple criterion measurement approach can then be used to carry out the evaluation. The suggested framework is also demonstrated via a case study. The use of this framework can improve the evaluation's objectivity, accuracy, and scientific methodology. It is believed that this work will assist managers of higher education institutions improve their standards for educational quality.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate axonal injury in supratentorial acute stroke patients and predict motor function recovery. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 28 patients with supratentorial acute stroke. All patients underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at Bach Mai Hospital from September 2021 to August 2022. Diffuse tensor imaging (DTI) was conducted using a 3-Tesla MRI machine to evaluate the association between the corticospinal tract and infarct area. Therefore, axonal injury and motor function recovery levels could be predicted. Results: Almost patients had no change in the signal of the axons, which did not pass through the infarct lesion (28.6%), and the signals strongly decreased in patients whose axons completely stayed inside the infarct lesion (32.1%). The fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) indices of the axons on the infarcted side were lower than those of axons on the contralateral side. The patient group, in which the axons did not pass through the infarct lesion or had no change in axonal signals, had a higher rate of better motor function recovery after 3 months than the other groups (39.3% and 25 %, respectively), whereas the axon group, in which the axons stayed completely inside the infarct lesion or had a remarkably decreased signal, had a very poor rate of recovery (32.1% and 39.3 %, respectively). The FA index of the axons on the infarct side in the poor recovery group was lower than that in the good recovery group. The ADC index did not differ between the groups. Conclusion: MRI finding with axonal signal, location, and infarct side could significantly predict motor recovery after 3 months in acute stroke patients.

In our study, we compared classical genetic algorithm (GA) and non-dominated sorting GA (NSGA) II to optimize LQR and sliding mode control (SMC) for an inverted pendulum. We aimed to identify the algorithm that best improves stability and peak performance. Our results clarified each algorithm’s unique strengths. The provement is shown in Matlab simulations.

AbstractContext Alkaloid-enriched extract of Huperzia serrata (Thunb.) Trevis (Lycopodiaceae) (HsAE) can potentially be used to manage neuronal disorders.Objective This study determines the anti-neuroinflammatory effects of HsAE on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated BV-2 microglial cells and the underlying mechanisms.Materials and methods BV-2 cells were pre- or post-treated with different concentrations of HsAE (25-150 µg/mL) for 30 min before or after LPS induction. Cell viability was assessed using a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay and no cytotoxicity was found. Nitric oxide (NO) concentration was determined using Griess reagent. The levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6 were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) were analyzed using western blotting.Results HsAE reduced LPS-induced NO production with half-maximal inhibitory concentration values of 99.79 and 92.40 µg/mL at pre- and post-treatment, respectively. Pre-treatment with HsAE at concentrations of 50, 100, and 150 µg/mL completely inhibited the secretion of PGE2, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β compared to post-treatment with HsAE. This suggests that prophylactic treatment is better than post-inflammation treatment. HsAE decreased the expression levels of iNOS and COX-2 and attenuated the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors by downregulating the phosphorylation of p38 and extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase in the MAPK signaling pathway.Discussion and Conclusions HsAE exerts anti-neuroinflammatory effects on LPS-stimulated BV-2 cells, suggesting that it may be a potential candidate for the treatment of neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has made devastating impacts on public health and global economy. While most people experience mild symptoms, it is highly transmissible and deadly in at-risk populations. Telemedicine has the potential to prevent hospitalization and provide remote care. Methods This retrospective study included 336 people with COVID-19, among which 141 (42%) and 195 (58%) were in Delta and Omicron dominant groups, respectively. Patients were confirmed to have COVID-19 by PCR or rapid test and were cared for via telemedicine. Severe cases were hospitalized for more intensive treatment. Results The majority of individuals recovered at home (97.02%), while 2.98% required hospitalization. All hospital admissions were in Delta dominant group. No deaths were reported. Delta dominant group was more likely to develop loss of taste and smell, decreased appetite and need longer treatment time than those in Omicron dominant group. Conclusions Telemedicine is a safe measure to provide at-home care for people with COVID-19 infections caused by both Delta and Omicron variants. Livestock manure and crop residues are significant sources of phosphorus. However, the ineffectiveness of current processing technologies often leads to the suboptimal recovery of this phosphorus, causing considerable resource wastage and environmental pollution. Recently, global research has increasingly been focused on the resource recovery of organic waste materials using hydrothermal carbonization technology. This study investigated variations in phosphorus forms in the hydrochar produced from swine manure and rice straw, employing diverse hydrothermal carbonization conditions and applying the Box–Behnken response surface methodology and Hedley’s phosphorus fractionation method. The results indicated that inorganic phosphorus predominates in the hydrochar, with organic phosphorus comprising 5–30% of the total phosphorus. Furthermore, the study found that the available phosphorus content, as measured by NaHCO3 extraction, decreased as the reaction time and temperature of the hydrothermal carbonization process increased. The concentrations of H2O-P and NaHCO3-P fractions decreased with increasing reaction times and temperatures but increased with a higher swine manure-to-straw ratio. Conversely, the concentrations of NaOH-P and HCl-P fractions showed an increasing trend with rising reaction temperature, prolonging reaction time, andusing a high swine manure-to-straw ratio. Consequently, this study offers vital theoretical and practical insights into the resource utilization of livestock manure and crop straw, significantly contributing to the challenges of waste management and environmental sustainability in agriculture.
