This study aims to evaluate the levels and explore the associated factors with KAP on antibiotic use and AMR in Chinese nursing students.Methods: A cross-sectional survey using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of demographics and selected features and KAP on antibiotic use and AMR was conducted to measure KAP levels among nursing students at various universities in Hubei Province, China. The logistic regression analyses were performed to analyze the potential factors associated with the KAP.Results: The survey eventually included a total of 1959 nursing students. The mean scores for KAP were 57.89 ± 26.32, 55.00 ± 12.50, and 71.88 ± 15.63, respectively. Regarding knowledge, 54.3% of participants were unaware that antibiotic was ineffective against viral infections. Regarding attitude, 36% of participants agreed that current antibiotic abuse existed; 96.2% of participants thought it necessary to set up a special course on antibiotics. Regarding practice, only 48.4% of participants usually purchased antibiotics with a prescription. Multivariable analyses indicated that lack of discussion on AMR in school courses was an independent risk factor against KAP, respectively. The main knowledge sources of antibiotic being outside the classroom was an independent risk factor related to knowledge and practice. The average score > 80 points was an independent protective factor related to knowledge and practice.Conclusion: The KAP level on antibiotic use and AMR among Hubei nursing students was general and required further strengthening. Nursing students with risk factors should be prioritized in educational interventions. The findings of our study pointed out some directions for tailored interventions to improve the training on antibiotics.Keywords: antibiotic use, antimicrobial resistance, knowledge, attitude, practice, nursing students

However, its objective response rate (ORR) is below 20%, significantly limiting ICI use in advanced HCC patients. The level of tumour immune infiltration influences ICI response rate. Recent studies have found ubiquitinase to be an important factor that regulates tumour immune infiltration. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore the key ubiquitination genes that regulate immune infiltration in advanced HCC and further validate them.Methods: A biotechnological process was performed as a means of classifying 90 advanced HCC patients into three immune subtypes and identifying associations with immune infiltration in the co-expressed modules. Ubiquitination-related genes were then screened with WGCNA. Gene enrichment analysis was performed for the target module and 30 hub genes were screened out by protein–protein interaction network (PPI). ssGSEA, single-gene sequencing and the MCP counter were used for exploring immune infiltration. TIDE score was applied for predicting drug efficacy and GSEA was used for exploring potential pathways. Finally, GRB2 expression in HCC tissue was validated by in vitro experiments.Results: GRB2 expression was found to have a significant correlation with the pathological stage and prognosis of HCC patients and a positive correlation with immune infiltration and tumour mutation burden (TMB). In addition, significant correlations with the efficacy of ICIs, sorafenib and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) were identified. GRB2 was found to be most significantly associated with the JAK-STAT signalling pathway and cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. Finally, it was found that GRB2 expression is closely related to the prognosis, tumour size and TMN stage.Conclusion: A significant association was observed between the ubiquitinated gene GRB2 and the prognosis and immune infiltration of advanced HCC patients and it may potentially be used for predicting therapy efficacy in advanced HCC patients in the future.Keywords: ubiquitination, growth factor receptor-binding protein 2, liver cancer, tumour-infiltrating immune cells

This study investigates the relationship between market power and bank profitability, and the impacts of CEOs’ personality traits, in Vietnam from 2007 to 2020. The analysis of CEOs’ signatures is used to determine their characteristics. The findings support the quiet-life hypothesis, which suggests that the negative relationship between market power and bank profitability may depend on CEOs’ characteristics. More specifically, the results show that conscientious CEOs with market power tend to reduce bank profitability, and this effect is more pronounced for foreign-owned banks. Therefore, our findings have critical implications for bank management.

Abstract Purpose Poor outcomes in IDH wild-type (IDHwt) glioblastomas indicate the need to determine which genetic alterations can indicate poor survival and guidance of patient specific treatment options. We sought to identify the genetic alterations in these patients that predict for survival when adjusting particularly for treatments and other genetic alterations. Methods A cohort of 167 patients with pathologically confirmed IDHwt glioblastomas treated at our institution was retrospectively reviewed. Next generation sequencing was performed for each patient to determine tumor genetic alterations. Multivariable cox proportional hazards analysis for overall survival (OS) was performed to control for patient variables. Results CDKN2A, CDKN2B, and MTAP deletion predict for worse OS independently of other genetic alterations and patient characteristics (hazard ratio [HR] 2.192, p = 0.0017). Patients with CDKN2A copy loss (HR 2.963, p = 0.0037) or TERT mutated (HR 2.815, p = 0.0008) glioblastomas exhibited significant associations between radiation dose and OS, while CDKN2A and TERT wild type patients did not. CDKN2A deleted patients with NF1 mutations had worse OS (HR 1.990, p = 0.0540), while CDKN2A wild type patients had improved OS (HR 0.229, p = 0.0723). Antibiotics consumption was expressed as defined daily doses (DDDs)/1000 patient-days based on the Guidelines for Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical. The trends in antibiotics consumption and antimicrobial resistance rates were analyzed by linear regression, while Spearman correlation analysis was employed to evaluate their correlations.Results: An increasing trend in the annual consumption of carbapenems and monobactams was detected (all P< 0.05). A significant upward trend was detected in the annual resistance rates of Enterococcus faecium to ciprofloxacin, Streptococcus pneumonia to ceftriaxone, Acinetobacter baumannii to carbapenems, Enterobacter cloacae to carbapenems, Pseudomonas aeruginosa to ceftazidime, and Escherichia coli to cefepime, while the annual resistance rates of Escherichia coli to carbapenems had a significant downward trend (all P< 0.05). The consumption of cephalosporin/β-lactamase inhibitor (C/BLI) combinations and carbapenems had significant positive correlations with the resistance rates of Acinetobacter baumannii to carbapenems (r=0.763, P< 0.001; r=0.806, P< 0.001), Enterobacter cloacae to carbapenems (r=0.675, P< 0.001; r=0.417, P=0.043), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to ceftazidime (r=0.625, P=0.001; r=0.753, P< 0.001), respectively. Also, increasing consumption of monobactams was related to the upward resistance rates of Acinetobacter baumannii to carbapenems (r=0.557, P=0.005) and Enterobacter cloacae to carbapenems (r=0.507, P= 0.011).Conclusion: This study demonstrated significant positive associations between antibiotics consumption and specific antimicrobial resistance rates. The current findings pointed out some directions to pursue in controlling the prevalence of certain resistant bacterial strains in children.Keywords: antibiotic consumption, antimicrobial resistance, correlation, children

Although there are different ways to estimate the value of the illicit drug markets, the main issue remains that one cannot estimate the unseized or floating value of drugs at the country- and international-level markets. This study applies a novel estimation method that combines excess compensation estimation (from the financial field) and stochastic frontier analysis (from the operations research field) to estimate the value of the international cocaine market in 2019. Our estimations show that in 2019, the unseized market accounted for 32.16 % of the total market of cocaine and was smaller than the ratio of 48 % in 2007, indicating that the effectiveness of countries in disrupting the illicit cocaine market has improved. More importantly, we show that improvement in dealing with money laundering risks could also help reduce the illicit market of cocaine since illicit cocaine/drug proceeds must be laundered before they can be used by criminal organisations. The Vietnamese Government committed to closing all bear farms in the country by 2022. Some researchers have expressed concerns that ending the commercial farming of bears, while demand for bear bile persists, could lead to increased hunting pressure on wild bear populations. In this article, we used mixed methods of questionnaires, Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs), and interviews to investigate current consumer demand for bear bile in Vietnam, with a specific aim of understanding the potential for consumers to seek out wild bear bile. We sampled at seven areas across the country of Vietnam (total respondents = 2,463). We found low use of farmed and wild bear bile. Despite widespread belief in farmed and wild bear bile's efficacy, we found that individuals were apathetic about continuing to use bear bile. Coupled with a strong preference for using synthetic bear bile over wild and farmed bear bile found in the DCEs, we posit that bear bile consumers in Vietnam will be willing to use non animal-based products, including bear bile plant and Western medicine, to treat future ailments.

Digital credit has gained much attention from academic researchers, practitioners, and policymakers worldwide. This study empirically evaluates the determinants of digital credit using cross-country data from 2013 to 2019. The conventional ordinary least square regression with fixed effects estimator is used to investigate the factors affecting the growth of digital credit. Our study highlights that the regulatory frameworks of anti-money laundering and terrorist financing, the economy’s innovative capacity, and financial development are significant factors affecting the development of digital credit, especially fintech credit. However, the findings indicate that only the innovation capacity is more critical to the expansion of bigtech credit. Nonetheless, our results provide some important implications for market participants and the authorities in promoting digital credit. Accordingly, this study contributes to the literature on the growth of digital credit when considering the critical roles of money laundering and terrorist financing frameworks and innovation capacity.

Abstract Human bone marrow‐derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (BM‐MSCs) represent promising stem cell therapy for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but the results of autologous BM‐MSC administration in T2DM patients are contradictory. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that autologous BM‐MSC administration in T2DM patient is safe and that the efficacy of the treatment is dependant on the quality of the autologous BM‐MSC population and administration routes. T2DM patients were enrolled, randomly assigned (1:1) by a computer‐based system into the intravenous and dorsal pancreatic arterial groups. The safety was assessed in all the treated patients, and the efficacy was evaluated based on the absolute changes in the hemoglobin A1c, fasting blood glucose, and C‐peptide levels throughout the 12‐month follow‐up. IntroductionPoor outcomes in glioblastoma patients, despite advancing treatment paradigms, indicate a need to determine non-physiologic prognostic indicators of patient outcome. The impact of specific socioeconomic and demographic patient factors on outcomes is unclear. We sought to identify socioeconomic and demographic patient characteristics associated with patient survival and tumor progression, and to characterize treatment options and healthcare utilization.MethodsA cohort of 169 patients with pathologically confirmed glioblastomas treated at our institution was retrospectively reviewed. Multivariable cox proportional hazards analysis for overall survival (OS) and cumulative incidence of progression was performed. Differences in treatment regimen, patient characteristics, and neuro-oncology office use between different age and depressive disorder history patient subgroups were calculated two-sample t-tests, Fisher's exact tests, or linear regression analysis.ResultsThe median age of all patients at the time of initiation of radiation therapy was 60.5 years. The median OS of the cohort was 13.1 months. Multivariable analysis identified age (Hazard Ratio 1.02, 95% CI 1.00–1.04) and total resection (Hazard Ratio 0.52, 95% CI 0.33–0.82) as significant predictors of OS. Increased number of radiation fractions (Hazard Ratio 0.90, 95% CI 0.82–0.98), depressive disorder history (Hazard Ratio 0.59, 95% CI 0.37–0.95), and total resection (Hazard Ratio 0.52, 95% CI 0.31–0.88) were associated with decreased incidence of progression. Notably, patients with depressive disorder history were observed to have more neuro-oncology physician office visits over time (median 12 vs. 16 visits, p = 0.0121). Patients older than 60 years and those with Medicare (vs. private) insurance were less likely to receive as many radiation fractions (p = 0.0014) or receive temozolomide concurrently with radiation (Odds Ratio 0.46, p = 0.0139).ConclusionOlder glioblastoma patients were less likely to receive as diverse of a treatment regimen as their younger counterparts, which may be partially driven by insurance type. Patients with depressive disorder history exhibited reduced incidence of progression, which may be due to more frequent health care contact during neuro-oncology physician office visits.

IntroductionPoor outcomes in glioma patients indicate a need to determine prognostic indicators of survival to better guide patient specific treatment options. While preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) have been suggested as prognostic systemic inflammation markers, the impact of post-radiation changes in these cell types is unclear. We sought to identify which hematologic cell measurements before, during, or after radiation predicted for patient survival.MethodsA cohort of 182 patients with pathologically confirmed gliomas treated at our institution was retrospectively reviewed. Patient blood samples were collected within one month before, during, or within 3 months after radiation for quantification of hematologic cell counts, for which failure patterns were evaluated. Multivariable cox proportional hazards analysis for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) was performed to control for patient variables.ResultsMultivariable analysis identified pre-radiation NLR > 4.0 (Hazard ratio = 1.847, p = 0.0039) and neutrophilia prior to (Hazard ratio = 1.706, p = 0.0185), during (Hazard ratio = 1.641, p = 0.0277), or after (Hazard ratio = 1.517, p = 0.0879) radiation as significant predictors of worse OS, with similar results for PFS. Post-radiation PLR > 200 (Hazard ratio = 0.587, p = 0.0062) and a percent increase in platelets after radiation (Hazard ratio = 0.387, p = 0.0077) were also associated with improved OS. Patients receiving more than 15 fractions of radiation exhibited greater post-radiation decreases in neutrophil and platelet counts than those receiving fewer. Patients receiving dexamethasone during radiation exhibited greater increases in neutrophil counts than those not receiving steroids. Lymphopenia, changes in lymphocyte counts, monocytosis, MLR, and changes in monocyte counts did not impact patient survival.ConclusionNeutrophilia at any time interval surrounding radiotherapy, pre-radiation NLR, and post-radiation thrombocytopenia, but not lymphocytes or monocytes, are predictors of poor patient survival in glioma patients.

Left-side RLNI occurred 2.8 times more often than right-side RLNI. Among the cases in which assessment of the vocal cords was continued, 8.4% involved permanent injury. There were no significant differences among clinicopathological data between patients with RLNI and without. Compared with patients without RLNI, patients with RNLI have longer operation time, more number of bronchoscopy suctions, longer postoperation hospital stay, and higher incidence of postoperative complications. T stage, N stage, RLN lymph node metastasis were independent risk factors for the prognosis, but RLNI is not independent risk factors for long-term survival.Conclusion: RLNI is a serious complication that will affect the short-term prognosis of patients and reduce the quality of life of patients. It should be avoided as much as possible during surgery, but it may not have negative impact on the long-term survival.Keywords: esophageal cancer, recurrent laryngeal nerve, injury, esophagectomy, prognosis

This paper examines the multi-dimensional efficiency of the Islamic banking sector and its determinants, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. To do that, we use a novel approach of two-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) double frontiers to evaluate the overall efficiency of 79 Islamic banks across 16 countries (2005–2020). In the first-stage analysis, we found that the Islamic banking sector experienced an increasing trend in its efficiency and performance, even during the recent pandemic, although it varied across banks and countries. Our empirical results of the second-stage analysis further showed that economic development can help countries both withstand the recent pandemic and improve the efficiency and performance of their (Islamic) banking system. This, in turn, could help speed up the recovery process of the global economy. Since there is evidence that the Islamic banking sector is resilient to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is expected that this sector will be a driving force of such recovery.

This data article describes a dataset that consists of key statistics on the activities of 45 Vietnamese banks (e.g., deposits, loans, assets, and labor productivity), operated during the 2002–2021 period, yielding a total of 644 bank-year observations. This is the first systematic compilation of data on the splits of state vs. private ownership, foreign vs. domestic banks, commercial vs. policy banks, and listed vs. nonlisted banks. Consequently, this arrives at a unique set of variables and indicators that allow us to capture the development and performance of the Vietnamese banking sector over time along many different dimensions. This can play an important role for financial analysts, researchers, and educators in banking efficiency and performance, risk and profit/revenue management, machine learning, and other fields.

There is evidence that ICT developments can improve bank efficiency and performance. Previous studies often employ data envelopment analysis (DEA) to first examine bank performance and then use a second-stage regression to explain the influences of other environmental factors, including ICT, on such efficiency. Since DEA efficiency scores are bounded between the (0, 1] intervals, Tobit and truncated regressions are commonly used in this stage. However, none has accounted for the skewness characteristic of DEA efficiency. This paper applied a bootstrap-censored quantile regression (BCQR) approach to triply account for the issues of a small sample (via bootstrap), bounded intervals (via censored regression), and skewness (via quantile regression) in DEA analysis. We empirically examined the efficiency and performance of 27 Vietnamese commercial banks in the 2007–2019 period. The efficiency scores derived from our first stage revealed that they are skewed and thus, justify the use of the BCQR in the second stage. The BCQR results further confirmed that ICT developments could enhance bank efficiency, which supports the recent policy to restructure the Vietnamese banking sector toward innovation and digitalization. We also examined the impacts of other factors such as bank ownership, credit risk, and bank size on efficiency.

This study empirically examines the impact of intellectual capital on bank risk-adjusted returns in Vietnam between 2007 and 2019 using the system generalized method of moments (GMM). The findings show the positive impacts of value-added intellectual coefficient (VAIC) and its components (human capital efficiency (HCE), capital employed efficiency (CEE), and structural capital efficiency (SCE)) on bank profitability. However, the results show an inverted U-shaped relationship may exist in the case of VAIC, HCE, and CEE. Also, the positive impacts of VAIC and HCE on bank profitability are true to the case of state-owned commercial banks while for foreign-owned banks the positive effect is more with HCE. Therefore, this study provides significant implications for policy-makers, management, and academics.

This study investigates the interrelationship among bank stability, profitability, and loan growth in the Vietnamese banking system between 2006 and 2017 using a simultaneous equations model. The findings show the bidirectional links between these variables. More specifically, bank profitability is positively associated with bank stability and vice versa. Loan growth is negatively related to bank stability and vice versa. Also, the findings show a positive interrelationship between bank profitability and loan growth. Nonetheless, these findings suggest the trade-off benefit of pursuing massive loan growth by banks. Nonetheless, our research has implications for bank supervisors, policy-makers, and bank managers.

This study explains the differences and variances in the efficiency scores of the Vietnamese banking sector retrieved from 27 studies published in refereed academic journals under the framework of meta-regression analysis. These scores are mainly based on frontier efficiency measurements, which essentially are Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) for Vietnamese banks over the period of 2007–2019. The meta-regression is estimated by using truncated regression to obtain bias-corrected scores. Our findings suggest that only the year of publication is positively correlated with efficiency, whilst the opposite is true for the data type, and sample size.

The expansion of fintech credit around the world is challenging the global banking system. This study investigates the interrelationships between the development of fintech credit and the efficiency of banking systems in 80 countries from 2013 to 2017. The findings indicate a two-way relationship between them. More specifically, a negative relationship between bank efficiency and fintech credit implies that fintech credit is more developed in countries with less efficient banking systems. Meanwhile, a positive impact of fintech credit on the efficiency of banking systems suggests that fintech credit may serve as a wake-up call to the banking system. Therefore, fintech credit should be encouraged by the authorities around the world.

Two new lindenane sesquiterpenes were obtained from the roots of Lindera myrrha. These compounds were structurally elucidated by HRMS data, extensive NMR analyses, and comparison between experimental and theoretical 13C-NMR data. Myrrhalindenane A is the first monomeric seco-d lindenane displaying a non-rearranged, cyclohexanic C-ring. Myrrhalindenane B is the second occurrence of an angular lindenane-sesquiterpene related to a C6-C7 lactonization.
