Recently, LLM (large language models) have been utilized for code readability evaluation. However, readability evaluation differs among developers, so personalization of the evaluation by LLM is needed. This study proposes a method which calibrates the evaluation, using collaborative filtering. Recently, the navigation of mobile robots in unknown environments has become a particularly significant research topic. Previous studies have primarily employed real-time environmental mapping using cameras and LiDAR, along with self-localization and path generation based on those maps. Additionally, there is research on Sim-to-Real transfer, where robots acquire behaviors through pre-trained reinforcement learning and apply these learned actions in real-world navigation. However, strictly the observe action and modelling of unknown environments that change unpredictably over time with accuracy and precision is an extremely complex endeavor. This study proposes a simple navigation algorithm for traversing unknown environments by utilizes the number of swarm robots. The proposed algorithm assumes that the robot has only the simple function of sensing the direction of the goal and the relative positions of the surrounding robots. The robots can navigate an unknown environment by simply continuing towards the goal while bypassing surrounding robots. The method does not need to sense the environment, determine whether they or other robots are stuck, or do the complicated inter-robot communication. We settle the problem of determining the asymptotic behavior of the parameters of optimal difference systems of sets, or DSSes for short, which were originally introduced for computationally efficient frame synchronization under the presence of additive noise. We prove that the lowest achievable redundancy of a DSS asymptotically attains Levenshtein's lower bound for any alphabet size and relative index, answering the question of Levenshtein posed in 1971. Our proof is probabilistic and gives a linear-time randomized algorithm for constructing asymptotically optimal DSSes with high probability for any alphabet size and information rate. This provides efficient self-synchronizing codes with strong noise resilience. Weak superimposed codes are combinatorial structures related closely to generalized cover-free families, superimposed codes, and disjunct matrices in that they are only required to satisfy similar but less stringent conditions. This class of codes may also be seen as a stricter variant of what are known as locally thin families in combinatorics. Originally, weak superimposed codes were introduced in the context of multimedia content protection against illegal distribution of copies under the assumption that a coalition of malicious users may employ the averaging attack with adversarial noise. As in many other kinds of codes in information theory, it is of interest and importance in the study of weak superimposed codes to find the highest achievable rate in the asymptotic regime and give an efficient construction that produces an infinite sequence of codes that achieve it. Here, we prove a tighter lower bound than the sharpest known one on the rate of optimal weak superimposed codes and give a polynomial-time randomized construction algorithm for codes that asymptotically attain our improved bound with high probability. Ensemble learning methods have been used to enhance the reliability of defect prediction models. However, there is an inconclusive stability of a single method attaining the highest accuracy among various software projects. This work aims to improve the performance of ensemble-learning defect prediction among such projects by helping select the highest accuracy ensemble methods. We employ bandit algorithms (BA), an online optimization method, to select the highest-accuracy ensemble method. Each software module is tested sequentially, and bandit algorithms utilize the test outcomes of the modules to evaluate the performance of the ensemble learning methods. The test strategy followed might impact the testing effort and prediction accuracy when applying online optimization. Hence, we analyzed the test order's influence on BA's performance. In our experiment, we used six popular defect prediction datasets, four ensemble learning methods such as bagging, and three test strategies such as testing positive-prediction modules first (PF). Our results show that when BA is applied with PF, the prediction accuracy improved on average, and the number of found defects increased by 7% on a minimum of five out of six datasets (although with a slight increase in the testing effort by about 4% from ordinal ensemble learning). Quantum computing with discrete variable (DV, qubit) hardware is approaching the large scales necessary for computations beyond the reach of classical computers. However, important use cases such as quantum simulations of physical models containing bosonic modes, and quantum error correction are challenging for DV-only systems. Separately, hardware containing native continuous-variable (CV, oscillator) systems has received attention as an alternative approach, yet the universal control of such systems is non-trivial. In this work, we show that hybrid CV-DV hardware offers a great advantage in meeting these challenges, offering a powerful computational paradigm that inherits the strengths of both DV and CV processors. We provide a pedagogical introduction to CV-DV systems and the multiple abstraction layers needed to produce a full software stack connecting applications to hardware. We present a variety of new hybrid CV-DV compilation techniques, algorithms, and applications, including the extension of quantum signal processing concepts to CV-DV systems and strategies to simulate systems of interacting spins, fermions, and bosons. To facilitate the development of hybrid CV-DV processor systems, we introduce formal Abstract Machine Models and Instruction Set Architectures -- essential abstractions that enable developers to formulate applications, compile algorithms, and explore the potential of current and future hardware for realizing fault-tolerant circuits, modules, and processors. Hybrid CV-DV quantum computations are beginning to be performed in superconducting, trapped ion, and neutral atom platforms, and large-scale experiments are set to be demonstrated in the near future. Quantum control of a linear oscillator using a static dispersive coupling to a nonlinear ancilla underpins a wide variety of experiments in circuit QED. Extending this control to more than one oscillator while minimizing the required connectivity to the ancilla would enable hardware-efficient multi-mode entanglement and measurements. We show that the spectrum of an ancilla statically coupled to a single mode can be made to depend on the joint photon number in two modes by applying a strong parametric beamsplitter coupling between them. This `joint-photon number-splitting' regime extends single-oscillator techniques to two-oscillator control, which we use to realize a hardware-efficient erasure check for a dual-rail qubit encoded in two superconducting cavities. By leveraging the beamsplitter coupling already required for single-qubit gates, this scheme permits minimal connectivity between circuit elements. Furthermore, the flexibility to choose the pulse shape allows us to limit the susceptibility to different error channels. We use this scheme to detect leakage errors with a missed erasure fraction of $(9.0 \pm 0.5)\times10^{-4}$, while incurring an erasure rate of $2.92 \pm 0.01\%$ and a Pauli error rate of $0.31 \pm 0.01\%$, both of which are dominated by cavity errors., Comment: Updated references

Cross-project defect prediction (CPDP) aims to use data from external projects as historical data may not be available from the same project. In CPDP, deciding on a particular historical project to build a training model can be difficult. To help with this decision, a Bandit Algorithm (BA) based approach has been proposed in prior research to select the most suitable learning project. However, this BA method could lead to the selection of unsuitable data during the early iteration of BA (i.e., early stage of software testing). Selecting an unsuitable model can reduce the prediction accuracy, leading to potential defect overlooking. This study aims to improve the BA method to reduce defects overlooking, especially during the early testing stages. Once all modules have been tested, modules tested in the early stage are re-predicted, and some modules are retested based on the re-prediction. To assess the impact of re-prediction and retesting, we applied five kinds of BA methods, using 8, 16, and 32 OSS projects as learning data. Building defect prediction models based on online learning can enhance prediction accuracy. It continuously rebuilds a new prediction model, when a new data point is added. However, a module predicted as "non-defective" can result in fewer test cases for such modules. Thus, a defective module can be overlooked during testing. The erroneous test results are used as learning data by online learning, which could negatively affect prediction accuracy. To suppress the negative influence, we propose to apply a method that fixes the prediction as positive during the initial stage of online learning. Additionally, we improved the method to consider the probability of the overlooking. In our experiment, we demonstrate this negative influence on prediction accuracy, and the effectiveness of our approach. Background: Recently, code generation tools such as ChatGPT have drawn attention to their performance. Generally, a prior analysis of their performance is needed to select new code-generation tools from a list of candidates. Without such analysis, there is a higher risk of selecting an ineffective tool, negatively affecting software development productivity. Additionally, conducting prior analysis of new code generation tools takes time and effort. Aim: To use a new code generation tool without prior analysis but with low risk, we propose to evaluate the new tools during software development (i.e., online optimization). Method: We apply the bandit algorithm (BA) approach to help select the best code-generation tool among candidates. Developers evaluate whether the result of the tool is correct or not. When code generation and evaluation are repeated, the evaluation results are saved. We utilize the stored evaluation results to select the best tool based on the BA approach. Our preliminary analysis evaluated five code generation tools with 164 code generation cases using BA. Result: The BA approach selected ChatGPT as the best tool as the evaluation proceeded, and during the evaluation, the average accuracy by the BA approach outperformed the second-best performing tool. Our results reveal the feasibility and effectiveness of BA in assisting the selection of best-performing code generation tools.

In areas that are inaccessible to humans, such as the lunar surface and landslide sites, there is a need for multiple autonomous mobile robot systems that can replace human workers. In particular, at landslide sites such as river channel blockages, robots are required to remove water and sediment from the site as soon as possible. Conventionally, several construction machines have been deployed to the site for civil engineering work. However, because of the large size and weight of conventional construction equipment, it is difficult to move multiple units of construction equipment to the site, resulting in significant transportation costs and time. To solve such problems, this study proposes a novel growing robot by eating environmental material called GREEMA, which is lightweight and compact during transportation, but can function by eating on environmental materials once it arrives at the site. GREEMA actively takes in environmental materials such as water and sediment, uses them as its structure, and removes them by moving itself. In this paper, we developed and experimentally verified two types of GREEMAs. First, we developed a fin-type swimming robot that passively takes water into its body using a water-absorbing polymer and forms a body to express its swimming function. Second, we constructed an arm-type robot that eats soil to increase the rigidity of its body. We discuss the results of these two experiments from the viewpoint of Explicit-Implicit control and describe the design theory of GREEMA.

The short message service (SMS) is a service for exchanging texts via mobile networks that has been developed not only as a means of text communication between subscribers but also as a means to remotely manage Internet of Things (IoT) devices. However, the originating number of an SMS can be spoofed. If IoT devices authenticate administrators based on the originating number of an SMS, the authentication is bypassed via SMS origin spoofing. Consequently, IoT devices are at risk of accepting commands from attackers and performing unauthorized actions. Accordingly, in this study, the specifications of major cellular IoT gateways were evaluated by focusing on remote management via SMS, and the authentication bypass hypothesis was verified. The results showed that 25 of the 32 targeted products supported SMS-based remote management, and 20 implemented authentication based on the originating number of the SMS. Furthermore, by spoofing the originating number of the SMS, one product was demonstrated to be remotely exploitable through authentication bypassing. Thus, this study revealed the threats posed by SMS origin spoofing to IoT devices and proved that SMS origin spoofing not only threatens text communication between people but also puts machine communication at risk.

In this study, we consider the guidance control problem of the sheepdog system, which involves the guidance of the flock using the characteristics of the sheepdog and sheep. Sheepdog systems require a strategy to guide sheep agents to a target value using a small number of sheepdog agents, and various methods have been proposed. Previous studies have proposed a guidance control law to guide a herd of sheep reliably, but the movement distance of a sheepdog required for guidance has not been considered. Therefore, in this study, we propose a novel guidance algorithm in which a supposedly efficient route for guiding a flock of sheep is designed via Traveling Salesman Problem and evolutionary computation. Numerical simulations were performed to confirm whether sheep flocks could be guided and controlled using the obtained guidance routes. We specifically revealed that the proposed method reduces both the guidance failure rate and the guidance distance.
