Portfolio management is one of the unresponded problems of the Motion Pictures Industry (MPI). To design an optimal portfolio for an MPI distributor, it is essential to predict the box office of each project. Moreover, for an accurate box office prediction, it is critical to consider the effect of the celebrities involved in each MPI project, which was impossible with any precedent expert-based method. Additionally, the asymmetric characteristic of MPI data decreases the performance of any predictive algorithm. In this paper, firstly, the fame score of the celebrities is determined using a large language model. Then, to tackle the asymmetric character of MPI's data, projects are classified. Furthermore, the box office prediction takes place for each class of projects. Finally, using a hybrid multi-attribute decision-making technique, the preferability of each project for the distributor is calculated, and benefiting from a bi-objective optimization model, the optimal portfolio is designed.

We develop a deep learning model, ABioSPATH, to predict the one-year risk of ischemic stroke (IS) in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. The model integrates drug-protein-disease pathways and real-world clinical data of AF patients to generate the IS risk and potential pathways for each patient. The model uses a multilayer network to identify the mechanism of drug action and disease comorbidity propagation pathways. The model is tested on the Electronic Health Record (EHR) data of 7859 AF patients from 43 hospitals in Hong Kong. The model outperforms all baselines across all metrics and provides valuable molecular-level insights for clinical use. The model also highlights key proteins in common pathways and potential IS risks tied to less-studied drugs. The model only requires routinely collected data, without requiring expensive biomarkers to be tested.

This paper explores the significant impact of AI-based medical devices, including wearables, telemedicine, large language models, and digital twins, on clinical decision support systems. It emphasizes the importance of producing outcomes that are not only accurate but also interpretable and understandable to clinicians, addressing the risk that lack of interpretability poses in terms of mistrust and reluctance to adopt these technologies in healthcare. The paper reviews interpretable AI processes, methods, applications, and the challenges of implementation in healthcare, focusing on quality control to facilitate responsible communication between AI systems and clinicians. It breaks down the interpretability process into data pre-processing, model selection, and post-processing, aiming to foster a comprehensive understanding of the crucial role of a robust interpretability approach in healthcare and to guide future research in this area. with insights for creating responsible clinician-AI tools for healthcare, as well as to offer a deeper understanding of the challenges they might face. Our research questions, eligibility criteria and primary goals were identified using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guideline and PICO method; PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases were systematically searched using sensitive and specific search strings. In the end, 52 publications were selected for data extraction which included 8 existing reviews and 44 related experimental studies. The paper offers general concepts of interpretable AI in healthcare and discuss three-levels interpretability process. Additionally, it provides a comprehensive discussion of evaluating robust interpretability AI in healthcare. Sensor devices have been increasingly used in engineering and health studies recently, and the captured multi-dimensional activity and vital sign signals can be studied in association with health outcomes to inform public health. The common approach is the scalar-on-function regression model, in which health outcomes are the scalar responses while high-dimensional sensor signals are the functional covariates, but how to effectively interpret results becomes difficult. In this study, we propose a new Functional Adaptive Double-Sparsity (FadDoS) estimator based on functional regularization of sparse group lasso with multiple functional predictors, which can achieve global sparsity via functional variable selection and local sparsity via zero-subinterval identification within coefficient functions. We prove that the FadDoS estimator converges at a bounded rate and satisfies the oracle property under mild conditions. Extensive simulation studies confirm the theoretical properties and exhibit excellent performances compared to existing approaches. Application to a Kinect sensor study that utilized an advanced motion sensing device tracking human multiple joint movements and conducted among community-dwelling elderly demonstrates how the FadDoS estimator can effectively characterize the detailed association between joint movements and physical health assessments. The automatic detection of major rail components using railway images is beneficial to ensure the rail transport safety. In this paper, we propose an attention-powered deep convolutional network (AttnConv-net) to detect multiple rail components including the rail, clips, and bolts. The proposed method consists of a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) as the backbone, cascading attention blocks (CAB), and two feed forward networks (FFN). Two types of positional embedding are applied to enrich information in latent features extracted from the backbone. Based on processed latent features, the CAB aims to learn the local context of rail components including their categories and component boundaries. Final categories and bounding boxes are generated via two FFN implemented in parallel. To enhance the detection of small components, various data augmentation methods are employed in the training process. The effectiveness of the proposed AttnConv-net is validated with one real dataset and another synthesized dataset. Compared with classic convolutional neural network based methods, our proposed method simplifies the detection pipeline by eliminating the need of prior- and post-processing, which offers a new speed-quality solution to enable faster and more accurate image-based rail component detections

Accurate forecasting of traffic conditions is critical for improving safety, stability, and efficiency of a city transportation system. In reality, it is challenging to produce accurate traffic forecasts due to the complex and dynamic spatiotemporal correlations. Most existing works only consider partial characteristics and features of traffic data, and result in unsatisfactory performances on modeling and forecasting. In this paper, we propose a periodic spatial-temporal deep neural network (PSTN) with three pivotal modules to improve the forecasting performance of traffic conditions through a novel integration of three types of information. First, the historical traffic information is folded and fed into a module consisting of a graph convolutional network and a temporal convolutional network. Second, the recent traffic information together with the historical output passes through the second module consisting of a graph convolutional network and a gated recurrent unit framework. Finally, a multi-layer perceptron is applied to process the auxiliary road attributes and output the final predictions. Experimental results on two publicly accessible real-world urban traffic data sets show that the proposed PSTN outperforms the state-of-the-art benchmarks by significant margins for short-term traffic conditions forecasting

Automated inspection and detection of foreign objects on railways is important for rail transportation safety as it helps prevent potential accidents and trains derailment. Most existing vision-based approaches focus on the detection of frontal intrusion objects with prior labels, such as categories and locations of the objects. In reality, foreign objects with unknown categories can appear anytime on railway tracks. In this paper, we develop a semi-supervised convolutional autoencoder based framework that only requires railway track images without prior knowledge on the foreign objects in the training process. It consists of three different modules, a bottleneck feature generator as encoder, a photographic image generator as decoder, and a reconstruction discriminator developed via adversarial learning. In the proposed framework, the problem of detecting the presence, location, and shape of foreign objects is addressed by comparing the input and reconstructed images as well as setting thresholds based on reconstruction errors. The proposed method is evaluated through comprehensive studies under different performance criteria. The results show that the proposed method outperforms some well-known benchmarking methods. Counting the repetition of human exercise and physical rehabilitation is a common task in rehabilitation and exercise training. The existing vision-based repetition counting methods less emphasize the concurrent motions in the same video. This work presents a vision-based human motion repetition counting applicable to counting concurrent motions through the skeleton location extracted from various pose estimation methods. The presented method was validated on the University of Idaho Physical Rehabilitation Movements Data Set (UI-PRMD), and MM-fit dataset. The overall mean absolute error (MAE) for mm-fit was 0.06 with off-by-one Accuracy (OBOA) 0.94. Overall MAE for UI-PRMD dataset was 0.06 with OBOA 0.95. We have also tested the performance in a variety of camera locations and concurrent motions with conveniently collected video with overall MAE 0.06 and OBOA 0.88. The proposed method provides a view-angle and motion agnostic concurrent motion counting. This method can potentially use in large-scale remote rehabilitation and exercise training with only one camera.

Short-term forecasting of passenger flow is critical for transit management and crowd regulation. Spatial dependencies, temporal dependencies, inter-station correlations driven by other latent factors, and exogenous factors bring challenges to the short-term forecasts of passenger flow of urban rail transit networks. An innovative deep learning approach, Multi-Graph Convolutional-Recurrent Neural Network (MGC-RNN) is proposed to forecast passenger flow in urban rail transit systems to incorporate these complex factors. We propose to use multiple graphs to encode the spatial and other heterogenous inter-station correlations. The temporal dynamics of the inter-station correlations are also modeled via the proposed multi-graph convolutional-recurrent neural network structure. Inflow and outflow of all stations can be collectively predicted with multiple time steps ahead via a sequence to sequence(seq2seq) architecture. The proposed method is applied to the short-term forecasts of passenger flow in Shenzhen Metro, China. The experimental results show that MGC-RNN outperforms the benchmark algorithms in terms of forecasting accuracy. Besides, it is found that the inter-station driven by network distance, network structure, and recent flow patterns are significant factors for passenger flow forecasting. Moreover, the architecture of LSTM-encoder-decoder can capture the temporal dependencies well. In general, the proposed framework could provide multiple views of passenger flow dynamics for fine prediction and exhibit a possibility for multi-source heterogeneous data fusion in the spatiotemporal forecast tasks., Comment: 21 pages,15 figures

Recently there has been a lot of interest in monitoring and identifying changes in dynamic networks, which has led to the development of a variety of monitoring methods. Unfortunately, these methods have not been systematically compared; moreover, new methods are often designed for a specialized use case. In light of this, we propose the use of simulation to compare the performance of network monitoring methods over a variety of dynamic network changes. Using our family of simulated dynamic networks, we compare the performance of several state-of-the-art social network monitoring methods in the literature. We compare their performance over a variety of types of change; we consider both increases in communication levels, node propensity change as well as changes in community structure. We show that there does not exist one method that is uniformly superior to the others; the best method depends on the context and the type of change one wishes to detect. As such, we conclude that a variety of methods is needed for network monitoring and that it is important to understand in which scenarios a given method is appropriate., Comment: 37 pages, 13 figures, 4 tables. Ridership estimation at station level plays a critical role in metro transportation planning. Among various existing ridership estimation methods, direct demand model has been recognized as an effective approach. However, existing direct demand models including Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) have rarely included local model selection in ridership estimation. In practice, acquiring insights into metro ridership under multiple influencing factors from a local perspective is important for passenger volume management and transportation planning operations adapting to local conditions. In this study, we propose an Adapted Geographically Weighted Lasso (Ada-GWL) framework for modelling metro ridership, which performs regression-coefficient shrinkage and local model selection. It takes metro network connection intermedia into account and adopts network-based distance metric instead of Euclidean-based distance metric, making it so-called adapted to the context of metro networks. The real-world case of Shenzhen Metro is used to validate the superiority of our proposed model. The results show that the Ada-GWL model performs the best compared with the global model (Ordinary Least Square (OLS), GWR, GWR calibrated with network-based distance metric and GWL in terms of estimation error of the dependent variable and goodness-of-fit. Through understanding the variation of each coefficient across space (elasticities) and variables selection of each station, it provides more realistic conclusions based on local analysis. Besides, through clustering analysis of the stations according to the regression coefficients, clusters' functional characteristics are found to be in compliance with the facts of the functional land use policy of Shenzhen. Travel demand analysis at the planning stage is important for metro system development. In practice, travel demand can be affected by various factors. This paper focuses on investigating the factors influencing Taipei metro ridership at station level over varying time periods. Ordinary Least Square (OLS) multiple regression models with backward stepwise feature selection are employed to identify the influencing factors, including land use, social economic, accessibility, network structure information, etc. Network structure factors are creatively quantified based on complex network theory to accurately measure the related information. To enhance goodness-of-fit, the dummy variable distinguishing transportation hub is incorporated in the modeling. The main findings in this paper are three-fold: First, there is no distinct difference between influencing factors of boarding and those of alighting; Second, ridership is significantly associated with the number of nearby shopping malls, distance to city center, days since opening, nearby bus stations and dummy variable for transportation hub; Finally, the ridership on weekdays is mainly affected by commuting activities, while the ridership on weekends is driven by commercial access., Comment: 6 pages. 2018 21st International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC). Background: All-in-one station-based health monitoring devices are implemented in elder homes in Hong Kong to support the monitoring of vital signs of the elderly. During a pilot study, it was discovered that the systolic blood pressure was incorrectly measured during multiple weeks. A real-time solution was needed to identify future data quality issues as soon as possible. Methods: Control charts are an effective tool for real-time monitoring and signaling issues (changes) in data. In this study, as in other healthcare applications, many observations are missing. Few methods are available for monitoring data with missing observations. A data quality monitoring method is developed to signal issues with the accuracy of the collected data quickly. This method has the ability to deal with missing observations. A Hotelling's T-squared control chart is selected as the basis for our proposed method. Findings: The proposed method is retrospectively validated on a case study with a known measurement error in the systolic blood pressure measurements. The method is able to adequately detect this data quality problem. The proposed method was integrated into a personalized telehealth monitoring system and prospectively implemented in a second case study. It was found that the proposed scheme supports the control of data quality. Conclusions: Data quality is an important issue and control charts are useful for real-time monitoring of data quality. Large-scale Gaussian process models are becoming increasingly important and widely used in many areas, such as, computer experiments, stochastic optimization via simulation, and machine learning using Gaussian processes. The standard methods, such as maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) for parameter estimation and the best linear unbiased predictor (BLUP) for prediction, are generally the primary choices in many applications. In spite of their merits, those methods are not feasible due to intractable computation when the sample size is huge. A novel method for the purposes of parameter estimation and prediction is proposed to solve the computational problems of large-scale Gaussian process based models, by separating the original dataset into tractable subsets. This method consistently combines parameter estimation and prediction by making full use of the dependence among conditional densities: a statistically efficient composite likelihood based on joint distributions of some well selected conditional densities is developed to estimate parameters and then "composite inference" is coined to make prediction for an unknown input point, based on its distributions conditional on each block subset. The proposed method transforms the intractable BLUP into a tractable convex optimization problem. It is also shown that the prediction given by the proposed method, called the best linear unbiased block predictor, has a minimum variance for a given separation of the dataset. Surgery duration is usually used as an input to the operation room (OR) allocation and surgery scheduling problems. A good estimation of surgery duration benefits the operation planning in ORs. In contrast, we would like to investigate whether the allocation decisions in turn influence surgery duration. Using almost two years of data from a large hospital in China, we find evidence in support of our conjecture. Surgery duration decreases with the number of surgeries a surgeon performs in a day. Numerically, surgery duration will decrease by 10 minutes on average if a surgeon performs one more surgery. Furthermore, we find a non-linear relationship between surgery duration and the number of surgeries allocated to an OR. Also, a surgery's duration is affected by its position in a sequence of surgeries performed by one surgeon. In addition, surgeons exhibit different patterns on the effects of surgery type and position. Since the findings are obtained from a particular data set, We do not claim the generalizability. Instead, the analysis in this paper provides insights into surgery duration study in ORs.

BACKGROUND: Clinical factors influence surgery duration. This study also investigated non-clinical effects. METHODS: 22 months of data about thoracic operations in a large hospital in China were reviewed. Linear and nonlinear regression models were used to predict the duration of the operations. Interactions among predictors were also considered. RESULTS: Surgery duration decreased with the number of operations a surgeon performed in a day (P<0.001). Also, it was found that surgery duration decreased with the number of operations allocated to an OR as long as there were no more than four surgeries per day in the OR (P<0.001), but increased with the number of operations if it was more than four (P<0.01). The duration of surgery was affected by its position in a sequence of surgeries performed by a surgeon. In addition, surgeons exhibited different patterns of the effects of surgery type for surgeries in different positions in the day. CONCLUSIONS: Surgery duration was affected not only by clinical effects but also some non-clinical effects. Scheduling and allocation decisions significantly influenced surgery duration.
