- Abstract
We report on the investigation of Δ(1232) production and decay in proton-proton collisions at a kinetic energy of 1.25 GeV measured with HADES. Exclusive dilepton decay channels ppe+e- and ppe+e-γ have been studied and compared with the partial-wave analysis of the hadronic ppπ0 channel. They allow to access both Δ+→pπ0(e+e-γ) and Δ+→pe+e- Dalitz decay channels. The perfect reconstruction of the well-known π0 Dalitz decay serves as a proof of the consistency of the analysis. The Δ Dalitz decay is identified for the first time and the sensitivity to N-Δ transition form factors is tested. The Δ(1232) Dalitz decay branching ratio is also determined for the first time our result is (4.19 ± 0.62 syst. ± 0.34 stat.) ×10-5, albeit with some model dependence. © 2017 American Physical Society. 95 6

We report on the investigation of dielectron production in tagged quasi-free neutron-proton collisions by using a deuteron beam of kinetic energy 1.25 GeV/u inpinging on a liquid hydrogen target. Our measurements with HADES confirm a significant excess of $e^+e^-$ pairs above the $\pi^{0}$ mass in the exclusive channel $dp \to npe^{+}e^{-}(p_{spect})$ as compared to the exclusive channel $ppe^{+}e^{-}$ measured in proton-proton collisions at the same energy. That excess points to different bremsstrahlung production mechanisms. Two models were evaluated for the role of the charged pion exchange between nucleons and double-$\Delta$ excitation combined with intermediate $\rho$-meson production. Differential cross sections as a function of the $e^+e^-$ invariant mass and of the angles of the virtual photon, proton and electrons provide valuable constraints and encourage further investigations on both experimental and theoretical side., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

The combination of a production target for secondary beams, an optimized ion optical beam line setting, in-beam detectors for minimum ionizing particles with high rate capability, and an efficient large acceptance spectrometer around the reaction target constitutes an experimental opportunity to study in detail hadronic interactions utilizing pion beams impinging on nucleons and nuclei. For the 0.4-2.0GeV/c pion momentum regime such a facility is located at the heavy ion synchrotron accelerator SIS18 in Darmstadt (Germany). The layout of the apparatus, performance of its components and encouraging results from a first commissioning run are presented. © 2017, SIF, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany. 53 9

The inclusive production of {\Lambda} hyperons in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.18 GeV was measured with HADES at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum f\"ur Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt. The experimental data are compared to a data-based model for individual exclusive {\Lambda} production channels in the same reaction. The contributions of intermediate resonances such as {\Sigma}(1385), {\Delta}++ or N* are considered in detail. In particular, the result of a partial wave analysis is accounted for the abundant pK$^+${\Lambda} final state. Model and data show a reasonable agreement at mid rapidities, while a difference is found for larger rapidities. A total {\Lambda} production cross section in p+p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.18 GeV of {\sigma}(pp $\to$ {\Lambda} + X) = 207.3 $\pm$ 1.3 +6.0 -7.3 (stat.) $\pm$ 8.4 (syst.) +0.4 -0.5 (model) {\mu}b is found., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures

The HADES data from p + Nb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √sNN = 3.2 GeV are analyzed employing a statistical hadronization model. The model can successfully describe the production yields of the identified hadrons π0, η, Ʌ, K0 s, ω with parameters Tchem = (99 ± 11) MeV and μb = (619 ± 34) MeV, which fit well into the chemical freeze-out systematics found in heavy-ion collisions. In addition, we reanalyze our previous HADES data from Ar + KCl collisions at √SNN = 2.6 GeV with an updated version of the model. We address equilibration in heavy-ion collisions by testing two aspects: the description of yields and the regularity of freeze-out parameters from a statistical model fit as a function of colliding energy and system size. Despite its success, the model fails to describe the observed Ξ- yields in both, p + Nb and Ar + KCl. Special emphasis is put on feed-down contributions from higher-lying resonance states as a possible explanation for the observed excess. © 2016, SIF, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg. 52 6 Cited By :6

- Abstract
We report on the first measurement of pΛ and pp correlations via the femtoscopy method in p + Nb reactions at sNN=3.18GeV, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES). By comparing the experimental correlation function to model calculations, a source size for pp pairs of r0,pp=2.02±0.01(stat)-0.12+0.11(sys)fm and a slightly smaller value for pΛ pairs of r0,Λp=1.62±0.02(stat)-0.08+0.19(sys)fm are extracted. Using the geometrical extent of the particle-emitting region, determined experimentally with pp correlations as reference together with a source function from a transport model, it is possible to study different sets of scattering parameters. The pΛ correlation is proven to be sensitive to predicted scattering length values from chiral effective field theory. We demonstrate that the femtoscopy technique can be used as a valid alternative to the analysis of scattering data to study the hyperon-nucleon interaction. © 2016 American Physical Society. 94 2 Cited By :2

A systematic study of the indoor airborne radon concentration in the central part of the Nicosia district was conducted, using high-sensitivity active radon portable detectors of the type "RADIM3A". From a total of 108 measurements in 54 grids of 1 km^2 area each, the overall mean value is 20.6 \pm 13.2 Bq m^-3 (A.M.\pm S.D.). That is almost twice less than the corresponding average worldwide value. The radon concentration levels in drinking water were also measured in 24 sites of the residential district, using the high-sensitivity radon detector of the type "RADIM3W". The mean value obtained from these measurements is 243.8 \pm 224.8 mBq L^-1, which is relatively low compared to the corresponding internationally accepted level. The associated annual effective dose rates to each measurement were also calculated and compared to the corresponding worldwide values. From the geographical coordinates of the measuring sites and the corresponding radon concentration values, the digital radon map of the central part of the Nicosia district was constructed for the first time, by means of the ArcMap software package., Comment: 21 pages including 2 tables and 8 figures

With the HADES spectrometer at GSI we have studied dilepton production in various collision systems from elementary N + N , over p + A , up to the medium-heavy Ar + KCl system. We have confirmed the puzzling results of the former DLS collaboration at the Bevalac. While we have traced the origin of the excess pair yield in C + C collisions to elementary p + p and n + p processes, we find a significant contribution from the dense phase of the collision in larger Ar + KCl system. From recently obtained e + e - pair spectra in p + p and p + Nb interactions at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy the inclusive production cross sections for neutral pions, η , ω and ρ mesons are extracted for the first time at this beam energy. Furthermore, the production mechanisms of the vector mesons, which are not known at these energies, are investigated. The direct comparison of p + p and p + Nb data allows us to investigate in-medium mass modifications of vector mesons at nuclear ground state density. On the other hand, exclusive production of ω and η mesons in p + p reactions at 3.5 GeV were studied via their π+π-π0 decay channel. Production cross sections and angular distributions for both states were determined.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
We present results on the K∗(892)+ production in proton-proton collisions at a beam energy of E=3.5 GeV, which is hitherto the lowest energy at which this mesonic resonance has been observed in nucleon-nucleon reactions. The data are interpreted within a two-channel model that includes the three-body production of K∗(892)+ associated with the Λ or Σ hyperon. The relative contributions of both channels are estimated. Besides the total cross section σ(p+p→K∗(892)++X)=9.5±0.9-0.9+1.1±0.7μb, which adds a new data point to the excitation function of the K∗(892)+ production in the region of low excess energy, transverse momenta and angular spectra are extracted and compared with the predictions of the two-channel model. The spin characteristics of K∗(892)+ are discussed as well in terms of the spin-alignment. © 2015 American Physical Society. ©2015 American Physical Society. 92 2 Cited By :4

Results on the production of the double strange cascade hyperon Ξ- are reported for collisions of p(3.5GeV)+Nb, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18 at GSI Helmholtzzentrum for Heavy-Ion Research, Darmstadt. For the first time, subthreshold Ξ- production is observed in proton-nucleus interactions. Assuming a Ξ- phase-space distribution similar to that of Λ hyperons, the production probability amounts to PΞ-=[2.0±0.4(stat)±0.3(norm)±0.6(syst)]×10-4 resulting in a Ξ-/(Λ+Σ0) ratio of PΞ-/PΛ+Σ0=[1.2±0.3(stat)±0.4(syst)]×10-2. Available model predictions are significantly lower than the measured Ξ- yield. © 2015 American Physical Society. 114 21

Employing the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis framework (PWA), we have analyzed HADES data of the reaction p(3.5GeV)+p→pK+Λ. This reaction might contain information about the kaonic cluster "ppK-" (with quantum numbers JP=0- and total isospin I=1/2) via its decay into pΛ. Due to interference effects in our coherent description of the data, a hypothetical K-NN (or, specifically "ppK-") cluster signal need not necessarily show up as a pronounced feature (e.g. a peak) in an invariant mass spectrum like pΛ. Our PWA analysis includes a variety of resonant and non-resonant intermediate states and delivers a good description of our data (various angular distributions and two-hadron invariant mass spectra) without a contribution of a K-NN cluster. At a confidence level of CLs=95% such a cluster cannot contribute more than 2-12% to the total cross section with a pK+Λ final state, which translates into a production cross-section between 0.7 μb and 4.2 μb, respectively. The range of the upper limit depends on the assumed cluster mass, width and production process. © 2015 The Authors. 742 242 248 Cited By :28

A comprehensive study was conducted to determine thorium, uranium and potassium elemental concentrations in surface soils throughout the accessible area of Cyprus using high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry. A total of 115 soil samples was collected from all over the bedrock surface of the island based on the different lithological units of the study area. The soil samples were sieved through a fine mesh, sealed in 1000-mL plastic Marinelli beakers, and measured in the laboratory in terms of their gamma radioactivity for a counting time of 18 hours each. From the measured gamma-ray spectra, elemental concentrations were determined for thorium (range from 2.5x10^-3 to 9.8 micro g g-1), uranium (from 8.1x10^-4 to 3.2 micro g g-1) and potassium (from 1.3x10^-4 to 1.9 %). The Arithmetic mean values (A.M. +- S.D.) calculated are (1.2 +- 1.7) micro g g-1, (0.6 +- 0.7) micro g g-1, and (0.4 +- 0.3) %, for thorium, uranium and potassium, respectively, which are by a factor of three to six lower than the world average values of 7.4 micro g g-1 (Th), 2.8 micro g g-1 (U) and 1.3 % (K) derived from all data available worldwide. The best-fitting relation between the concentrations of Th and K versus U, and also of K versus Th, is essentially of linear type with a correlation coefficient of 0.93, 0.84, and 0.90, respectively. The Th/U, K/U, and K/Th ratios (slopes) calculated are equal to 2.0, 2.8x10^3,and 1.4x10^3, respectively., Comment: 24 pages including 3 tables and 4 figures; minor changes; accepted by J. of Environmental Radioactivity

We present the analysis of the inclusive $K^{0}$ production in p+p and p+Nb collisions measured with the HADES detector at a beam kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV. Data are compared to the GiBUU transport model. The data suggest the presence of a repulsive momentum-dependent kaon potential as predicted by the Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). For the kaon at rest and at normal nuclear density, the ChPT potential amounts to $\approx 35$ MeV. A detailed tuning of the kaon production cross sections implemented in the model has been carried out to reproduce the experimental data measured in p+p collisions. The uncertainties in the parameters of the model were examined with respect to the sensitivity of the experimental results from p+Nb collisions to the in-medium kaon potential., 13 pages, 14 figures

The High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer HADES [1] is installed at the Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) accelerator facility in Darmstadt. It investigates dielectron emission and strangeness production in the 1-3 AGeV regime. A recent experiment series focusses on medium-modifications of light vector mesons in cold nuclear matter. In two runs, p+p and p+Nb reactions were investigated at 3.5 GeV beam energy about 9·109 events have been registered. In contrast to other experiments the high acceptance of the HADES allows for a detailed analysis of electron pairs with low momenta relative to nuclear matter, where modifications of the spectral functions of vector mesons are predicted to be most prominent. Comparing these low momentum electron pairs to the reference measurement in the elementary p+p reaction, we find in fact a strong modification of the spectral distribution in the whole vector meson region. © Owned by the authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2013. 66

Results on $\Lambda$ hyperon production are reported for collisions of p(3.5 GeV) + Nb, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18 at GSI Helmholtzzentrum for Heavy-Ion Research, Darmstadt. The transverse mass distributions in rapidity bins are well described by Boltzmann shapes with a maximum inverse slope parameter of about $90\,$MeV at a rapidity of $y=1.0$, i.e. slightly below the center-of-mass rapidity for nucleon-nucleon collisions, $y_{cm}=1.12$. The rapidity density decreases monotonically with increasing rapidity within a rapidity window ranging from 0.3 to 1.3. The $\Lambda$ phase-space distribution is compared with results of other experiments and with predictions of two transport approaches which are available publicly. None of the present versions of the employed models is able to fully reproduce the experimental distributions, i.e. in absolute yield and in shape. Presumably, this finding results from an insufficient modelling in the transport models of the elementary processes being relevant for $\Lambda$ production, rescattering and absorption. The present high-statistics data allow for a genuine two-dimensional investigation as a function of phase space of the self-analyzing $\Lambda$ polarization in the weak decay $\Lambda\rightarrow p \pi^-$. Finite negative values of the polarization in the order of $5-20\,\%$ are observed over the entire phase space studied. The absolute value of the polarization increases almost linearly with increasing transverse momentum for $p_t>300\,$MeV/c and increases with decreasing rapidity for $y < 0.8$., Comment: accepted by Eur. We report on baryon resonance production and decay in proton-proton collisions at a kinetic energy of $3.5$ GeV based on data measured with HADES. The exclusive channels $pp \rightarrow np\pi^{+}$ and $pp \rightarrow pp\pi^{0}$ as well as $pp \rightarrow ppe^{+}e^{-}$ are studied simultaneously for the first time. The invariant masses and angular distributions of the pion-nucleon systems were studied and compared to simulations based on a resonance model ansatz assuming saturation of the pion production by an incoherent sum of baryonic resonances (R) with masses $, Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures

We present p+p data, measured by the HADES spectrometer at EKin(proton)=3.5 GeV. We have analyzed the final state p+ p→ pLK+ in view of a possible intermediate state p+ p→KNN + K+. The KNN is the lightest candidate for a cluster of an anti-kaon bound to nucleons, and a current topic of theoretical and experimental interest. We have analyzed our data with a Partial- Wave Analysis that includes also the production of intermediate N∗-resonances (→ K+Λ). The result of the fit describes the data well and a statistical test showed no major deviations between model and data which could be attributed to a production of a kaonic nuclear bound state. We have, thus, started to focus on the determination of an upper limit of its production cross section. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence. 27-31-January-2014 Sponsors: Conference code: 121992

- Abstract
An exclusive analysis of the four-body final states Λ+p+π++K0 and Σ0+p+π++K0 measured with HADES for p+p collisions at a beam kinetic energy of 3.5 GeV is presented. The analysis uses various phase space variables, such as missing mass and invariant mass distributions, in the four-particle event selection (p,π+,π+,π-) to find cross sections of the different production channels, contributions of the intermediate resonances Δ++ and Σ(1385)+, and corresponding angular distributions. A dominant resonant production is seen, where the reaction Λ+Δ+++K0 has a cross section about ten times higher (29.45±0.08-1.46+1.67±2.06μb) than the analogous nonresonant reaction (2.57±0.02-1.98+0.21±0.18μb). A similar result is obtained in the corresponding Σ0 channels with 9.26±0.05-0.31+1.41±0.65μb in the resonant and 1.35±0.02-1.35+0.10±0.09μb in the nonresonant reactions. © 2014 American Physical Society. 90 1 Cited By :10

A high-statistic data sample of Ar(1.76 AGeV)+KCl events recorded with HADES is used to search for a hypertriton signal. An upper production limit per centrality-triggered event of $ 1.04\times 10^{-3}$ on the 3 $ \sigma$ level is derived. Comparing this value with the number of successfully reconstructed $ \Lambda$ hyperons allows to determine an upper limit on the ratio $ N_{_{\Lambda}^{3}H}/N_{\Lambda}$ , which is confronted with statistical and coalescence-type model calculations.

Results on the deep sub-threshold production of the short-lived hadronic resonance K*(892)0 are reported for collisions of Ar + KCl at 1.76A GeV beam energy, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. The K*(892)0 production probability per central collision of \( P_{K^{*0}}=(4.4\pm 1.1 \pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}\) and the K*(892)0/K0 ratio of \( P_{K^{*0}}/P_{K^0}=(1.9\pm 0.5\pm 0.3)\times 10^{-2}\) are determined at the lowest energy so far (i.e. deep below the threshold for the corresponding production in nucleon-nucleon collisions, \( \sqrt{s_{NN}}-\sqrt{s_{thr}}=-340\) MeV). The K*0/K0 ratio is compared with results of other experiments and with the predictions of the UrQMD transport approach and of the statistical hadronization model. The experimental K*0 yield and the K*0/K0 ratio are overestimated by the transport model by factors of about five and two, respectively. In a chemically equilibrated medium the ratio corresponds to a temperature of the thermalized system being systematically lower than the value determined by the yields of the stable and long-lived hadrons produced in Ar + KCl collisions. From the present measurement, we conclude that sub-threshold K* production either cannot be considered to proceed in a system being in thermal equilibrium or these short-lived resonances appear undersaturated, for example as a result of the rescattering of the decay particles in the ambient hadronic medium.

- Abstract
We present an analysis of the Λ(1405) resonance produced in the reaction p+p→Σ±+π+K++p at 3.5GeV kinetic beam energy measured with the High Acceptance Dielectron Spectrometer (HADES) at the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI). The two charged decay channels Λ(1405)→Σ±π â̂ have been reconstructed for the first time in p+p collisions. The efficiency and acceptance-corrected spectral shapes show a peak position clearly below 1400MeV/c2. We find a total production cross section of σΛ(1405)=9.2±0.9±0.7-1.0+3.3μb. The analysis of its polar angle distribution suggests that the Λ(1405) is produced isotropically in the p-p center-of-mass system (CMS). © 2013 American Physical Society. 87 2 Cited By :39

Hadron modifications in nuclear matter are discussed in connection to chiral symmetry restoration and/or hadronic many body effects. Experiments with photon, proton and heavy ion beams are used to probe properties of hadrons embedded in nuclear matter at different temperatures and densities. Most of the information has been gathered for the light vector mesons ρ ω and ø. HADES is a second generation experiment operating at GSI with the main aim to study in-medium modifications by means of dielectron production at the SIS18/Bevelac energy range. Large acceptance and excellent particle identification capabilities allows also for measurements of strangeness production. These abilities combined with the variety of beams provided by the SIS18 allow for a characterization of properties of the dense baryonic matter properties created in heavy ion collisions at these energies. A review of recent experimental results obtained by HADES is presented, with main emphasis on hadron properties in nuclear matter. 420 1 Conference code: 96468 Cited By :6

Nuclear Theory ,Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Data on inclusive pion and η production measured with the dielectron spectrometer HADES in the reaction p+93Nb at a kinetic beam energy of 3.5 GeV are presented. Our results, obtained with the photon-conversion method, supplement the rather sparse information on neutral-meson production in proton-nucleus reactions existing for this bombarding energy regime. The reconstructed e+e-e+e- transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions are confronted with transport-model calculations, which account fairly well for both π0 and η production. © 2013 American Physical Society. 88 2 Cited By :8

Kaonic bound state ,Meson-baryon interaction ,Partial wave analysis ,Λ(1405) - Abstract
The reaction p(3.5 GeV) + p → p + Λ + K + can be studied to search for the existence of kaonic bound states like p pK - leading to this final state. This effort has been motivated by the assumption that in p + p collisions the Λ(1405) resonance can act as a doorway to the formation of the kaonic bound states. The status of this analysis within the HADES Collaboration, with particular emphasis on the comparison to simulations, is shown in this work and the deviation method utilized by the DISTO Collaboration in a similar analysis is discussed. The outcome suggests the employment of a partial wave analysis do disentangle the different contributions to the measured pK +Λ final state. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. 914 60 68 Cited By :26

We present exclusive meaurements of the pp→pnπ+ and pp→ppπO reactions at 1.25 GeV, 2.2 GeV and 3.5 GeV and of the pp→ppπ+π- reaction at 1.25 GeV with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer at GSI. Total and differential cross-sections for the one-pion production channels are analyzed with the resonance model to extract the differential baryonic resonance contributions. A comparison of the two-pion production channels to effective lagrangian model predictions is on-going. The two-pion invariant mass and opening angle distributions show sensitivity to the double Δ(1232) and N(1440) → Δπ decays. 541 546 Sponsors: Conference code: 103419

Significant isospin effects are observed by the HADES collaboration in inclusive dilepton production channels in the pp and quasi free np experiments at 1.25 GeV kinetic beam energy. Triggered by this observation, analyses of several exclusive channels within either dilepton or pion production have been started to shed more light on the possible explanations. Furthermore, the exclusive π+π- production in np and pp collisions provide tests for a consistent description of double pion production in different isospin states, which is necessary to understand contributions of double δ(1232) and N*(1440) production. This is also important in the context of the recent results from the WASA collaboration on the ABC effect with reference to a d* dibaryon resonance in the isospin 0 channel. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence. We present measurements of exclusive \pi^{+,0} and \eta\ production in pp reactions at 1.25 GeV and 2.2 GeV beam kinetic energy in hadron and dielectron channels. In the case of \pi^+ and \pi^0, high-statistics invariant-mass and angular distributions are obtained within the HADES acceptance as well as acceptance corrected distributions, which are compared to a resonance model. The sensitivity of the data to the yield and production angular distribution of \Delta(1232) and higher lying baryon resonances is shown, and an improved parameterization is proposed. The extracted cross sections are of special interest in the case of pp \to pp \eta, since controversial data exist at 2.0 GeV; we find \sigma =0.142 \pm 0.022 mb. Using the dielectron channels, the \pi^0 and \eta\ Dalitz decay signals are reconstructed with yields fully consistent with the hadronic channels. The electron invariant masses and acceptance corrected helicity angle distributions are found in good agreement with model predictions., Comment: 22 pages, 18 figures, to be published in EPJA

P+p collisions ,Λ(1405) - Abstract
We study the production of σ ±π ∓ pK + particle quartets in p + p reactions at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy. The data were taken with the HADES experiment at GSI. This report evaluates the contribution of resonances like Λ(1405), σ(1385) 0, Λ(1520), δ(1232), N* and K *0 to the σ ±π ∓ pK + final state. The resulting simulation model is compared to the experimental data in several angular distributions and it shows itself as suitable to evaluate the acceptance corrections properly. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. 881 178 186 Cited By :13

The aim of the present analysis is to determine the relative production cross sections of the $\Lambda$(1405) and $\Sigma(1385)^{0}$ resonances in p+p collisions at E$_{kin}$=3.5 GeV measured with HADES. Upper and lower limits have been determined for the ratio $\sigma_{(\Sigma(1385)^{0}+p+K^{+})}/\sigma_{(\Lambda(1405)+p+K^{+})}=0.76_{-0.26}^{+0.54}$. The knowledge of this ratio is an essential input for the analysis of the decay $\Lambda(1405)\rightarrow\Sigma^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}$, where an unambiguous separation of the $\Lambda$(1405) and $\Sigma(1385)^{0}$ signals is not possible.

New results on the differential cross section in deuteron-proton elastic scattering are obtained at the deuteron kinetic energy of 2.5 GeV with the HADES spectrometer. The angular range of 69°-125° in the center of mass system is covered. The obtained results are compared with the relativistic multiple scattering model calculation using the CD-Bonn deuteron wave function. The data at fixed scattering angles in the c.m. are in qualitative agreement with the constituent counting rules prediction. 2012-January Sponsors: Conference code: 117673

The results of double pion production in np and pp collisions at an incident beam energy of 1.25 GeV with the HADES spectrometer at GSI are presented. The np-reactions were studied in d p collisions at 1.25 GeV/u using Forward Wall hodoscope aimed at registering spectator protons. High statistic invariantmass and angular distributions are obtained within the HADES acceptance which are compared with phase-space distributions. 2012-January Sponsors: Conference code: 117673

- Abstract
We present results of an exclusive measurement of the first-excited state of the Σ hyperon, Σ(1385)+, produced in p+p→Σ++K++n at 3.5GeV beam energy. The extracted data allow the detailed study of the invariant mass distribution of the Σ(1385)+. The mass distribution is well described by a relativistic Breit-Wigner function with a maximum at m 0=1383.2±0.9MeV/c2 and a width of 40.2±2.1MeV/c2. The exclusive production cross section comes out to be 22.27±0.89±1. 56-2.10+3.07μb. Angular distributions of the Σ(1385 )+ in different reference frames are found to be compatible with the hypothesis that 33% of Σ(1385 )+ result from the decay of an intermediate broad Δ++ excitation at about 2000MeV/c2. © 2012 American Physical Society. 85 3 Cited By :34

Data on inclusive dielectron production are presented for the reaction p+p at 2.2 GeV measured with the high acceptance dielectron spectrometer (HADES). Our results supplemented data obtained earlier in this bombarding energy regime with the dilepton spectrometer (DLS) and HADES. The comparison with the 2.09 GeV DLS data is discussed. The reconstructed e+e- pair distributions are confronted with simulations, revealing an excess yield at invariant masses around 0.5 GeV/c2. Inclusive cross sections of neutral pion and η production are obtained. © 2012 American Physical Society. 85 5 Cited By :20

We present the inclusive invariant mass, transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of dielectrons (e+e- pairs) in p+p interactions at 3. 5GeV beam kinetic energy. In the vector meson mass region, a distinct peak corresponding to direct ω decays is reconstructed with a 2% mass resolution. The data is compared to predictions from three model calculations. Due to the large acceptance of the HADES apparatus for e+e- invariant masses above 0. 2 GeV/c2 and for transverse pair momenta pt < 1 GeV/c, acceptance corrections are, to a large extent, model independent. This allows us to extract from dielectron data for the first time at this energy the inclusive production cross-sections for light vector mesons. Inclusive production cross-sections for π0 and η mesons are also reported. The obtained results will serve as an important reference for the study of vector meson production in proton-nucleus and heavy-ion collisions. Furthermore, using this data, an improved value for the upper bound of the branching ratio for direct η decays into the electron-positron channel is obtained. © 2012 The Author(s). 48 5 1 11 Cited By :9

The knowledge of baryonic resonance properties and production cross sections plays an important role for the extraction and understanding of medium modifications of mesons in hot and/or dense nuclear matter. We present and discuss systematics on dielectron and strangeness production obtained with HADES on p+p, p+A and A+A collisions in the few GeV energy regime with respect to these resonances. © Owned by the authors 2012. 36

We present results on dielectron production in Ar+KCl collisions at 1.76A GeV. For the first time $\omega$ mesons could be reconstructed in a heavy-ion reaction at a bombarding energy which is well below the production threshold in free nucleon-nucleon collisions. The omega multiplicity has been extracted and compared to the yields of other particles, in particular of the phi meson. At intermediate e+e- invariant masses, we find a strong enhancement of the pair yield over a reference spectrum from elementary nucleon-nucleon reactions suggesting the onset of non-trivial effects of the nuclear medium. Transverse-mass spectra and angular distributions have been reconstructed in three invariant mass bins. In the former unexpectedly large slopes are found for high-mass pairs. The latter, in particular the helicity-angle distributions, are largely consistent with expectations for a pair cocktail dominated at intermediate masses by delta Dalitz decays., Comment: 16 pages, 14 figures, accepted for publication by Phys. We report on recent data of e+e- pair emission in proton nucleus collisions at energies above the light vector meson production thresholds. Invariant mass distributions for the p+Nb system at Ekin = 3.5 GeV are compared to data from elementary p+p reactions at the same beam energy. We observe a constant π0/ω yield ratio for both systems but an excess in the mass region above the π0 mass. Furthermore we present here the normalization procedure that was applied to p+Nb collisions by measuring the production of negative pions in the HADES acceptance. 316 1 Conference code: 86856 Cited By :2

We present the transverse momentum spectra and rapidity distributions of pi(-) and K-S(0) in Ar + KCl reactions at a beam kinetic energy of 1.756 A GeV measured with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES). The reconstructed K-S(0) sample is characterized by good event statistics for a wide range in momentum and rapidity. We compare the experimental pi(-) and K-S(0) distributions to predictions by the Isospin Quantum Molecular Dynamics (IQMD) model. The model calculations show that K-S(0) at low transverse momenta constitute a particularly well-suited tool to investigate the kaon in-medium potential. Our K-S(0) data suggest a strong repulsive in-medium K-0 potential of about 40 MeV strength., We gratefully acknowledge the useful discussions with J. Aichelin and H. Oeschler. - Abstract
Results on Λp femtoscopy are reported at the lowest energy so far. At a beam energy of 1.76AGeV, the reaction Ar+KCl was studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. A high-statistics and high-purity Λ sample was collected, allowing for the investigation of Λp correlations at low relative momenta. The experimental correlation function is compared to corresponding model calculations allowing the determination of the space-time extent of the Λp emission source. The Λp source radius is found to be slightly smaller than the pp correlation radius for a similar collision system. The present Λp radius is significantly smaller than that found for Au+Au/Pb+Pb collisions in the AGS, SPS, and RHIC energy domains but larger than that observed for electroproduction from He. Taking into account all available data, we find the Λp source radius to increase almost linearly with the number of participants to the power of one-third. © 2010 The American Physical Society. 82 2

A first comprehensive study is presented on radioactivity concentrations and dose rates in 87 commonly used materials, manufactured or imported in Cyprus, for building purposes. The natural radioactivity of K-40, Th-232, U-238 and Ra-226 is determined using high-resolution gamma ray spectroscopy. The respective dose rates and the associated radiological effect indices are also calculated. A comparison of the measured specific activity values with the corresponding world average values shows that most of them are below the world average activity values. The annual indoor effective dose rates received by an individual from three measured imported granites and four measured imported ceramics are found to be higher than the world upper limit value of 1 mSv y-1. Hence, these materials should have a restricted use according to their corresponding calculated activity concentration index values and the related EC 1999 guidelines., Comment: 17 pages including 2 tables and 3 figures; Accepted by Radiation Protection Dosimetry

One of the main goals of the HADES experiment is to achieve a detailed understanding of dielectron emission from hadronic systems at moderate bombarding energies. Results obtained on electron pair production in elementary N+N collisions pave the way to a better understanding of the origin of the pair excess seen in heavy-ion collisions. This puzzling excess, reported first by the former DLS experiment, is now being investigated systematically by HADES. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. 834 1-4 298c 302c

In pp collisions at 1.25 GeV kinetic energy, the HADES collaboration aimed at investigating the di-electron production related to Δ (1232) Dalitz decay (Δ+ → pe+e-). In order to constrain the models predicting the cross section and the production mechanisms of A resonance, the hadronic channels have been measured and studied in parallel to the leptonic channels. The analyses of pp → npπ+ and pp → ppπ0 channels and the comparison to simulations are presented in this contribution, in particular the angular distributions being sensitive to Δ production and decay. The accurate acceptance corrections have been performed as well, which could be tested in all the phase space region thanks to the high statistic data. These analyses result in an overall agreement with the one-π exchange model and previous data. 2 423 429 Sponsors: Conference code: 103418
