3. Factor structure of academic resilience among Polish and Ukrainian students involved in remote education caused by Covid-19 and military aggression

Abstract Academic resilience explains how students overcome various challenges or negative experiences that can hinder the learning process. The COVID pandemic as well as war conflicts might be significant factors affecting the structure of the academic resilience of students. This study attempted to assess the extent to which the Cassidy’s construct of resilience can be used to interpret the behavior of other—Polish and Ukrainian samples, under remote education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and Russian military aggression against the Ukrainian civils. Second, the relationships between resilience and students' self-efficacy were estimated. To test the factor structure of the resilience exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted. Assumed structure reproduced to a greater extent among Polish (83.4% similarity) than in Ukrainian respondents (from 27 to 40%) and it was three or two factors for Polish and Ukrainian students, respectively. General self-efficacy positively correlated with resilience both among Polish and Ukrainian respondents confirming the concurrent validity of the scale. The discovered differences were explained by differences in the historical and sociocultural experiences of the two nations. If among Ukrainian students historical and social experiences actually lead to the formation of a pattern of Perseverance in Overcoming Problems, then in the factor analysis, this pattern should be reproduced in the form of a single factor. At the same time, experiences with negative emotions should give a second-factor Negative affect and emotional response. The results obtained confirmed this assumption.

6. Interrelationship between Levels of Digital Competences and Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK): A Preliminary Study with Polish Academic Teachers

- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop and to validate a study tool for determining the levels of academic teachers' digital competence regarding the TPACK framework and self-reflection questionnaire of the European Competence Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators in the context of higher education. The classic 7-factor TPACK model was changed to a 2-factor model (Pedagogical and Technological Knowledge). A survey was administered to 103 academic teachers from Polish universities. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the goodness-of-fit for the 2-factor TPACK model for higher education studies and internal consistency of the study survey. Descriptive analysis indicated a significant negative correlation between some demographic variables and domains from both factors. However, some positive associations with certain variables from the professional background were also noticed. Implications for professional development and suggestions regarding teachers' digital competences and TPACK are discussed.

Introduction and purpose: Hirschsprung's disease, also known as congenital aganglionic megacolon, is a rare congenital disorder that affects the large intestine. Due to the absence of ganglion cells, the affected segment of the colon becomes narrow and unable to relax. The disease is present from birth but may not always be immediately apparent. In this paper, we will attempt to present the current state of knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of Hirschsprung's disease, based on the analysis of literature available on the PubMed platform. Description of the state of knowledge: Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR), also known as congenital aganglionosis of the colon, involves abnormal migration, proliferation, and differentiation of neural crest cells, leading to the absence of autonomic nerve ganglia within the colon. HSCR is associated with mutations in several genes, with RET, GDNF, EDNRB and SOX10 being identified as the main causes of the disease. Mutations in the RET gene are associated with the hereditary form of Hirschsprung's disease. Symptoms of HSCR appear in newborns and may include bilious vomiting, diarrhea associated with enterocolitis, failure to pass meconium within the first 24 hours of life, impaired peristalsis, jaundice, feeding difficulties, and progressive abdominal distension. Summary: Diagnosis is typically made based on clinical presentation, imaging studies, and biopsy. Treatment usually involves surgery to remove the affected segment of the colon and reconnect the healthy portions. Although postoperative complications are relatively common, long-term studies suggest that the majority of children with Hirschsprung's disease function well in society.

Introduction and purpose: Baclofen is a derivative of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It is a spasmolytic drug that reduces skeletal muscle tension and is used in spasticity. Despite its many positive functions, its use is associated with a risk of side effects. The aim of this work is to gain a better understanding of baclofen and to highlight the toxicity and dangers of its misuse. Material and methods: The study was retrospective in nature. It used an analysis of the records of 11648 intoxications in patients hospitalised from 01.04.2013 to 01.04.2023 in the Clinical Toxicology and Cardiology Department of the Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński Provincial Hospital in Lublin, from which a group of baclofen intoxicated patients (T55), consisting of 19 cases, was distinguished. Results: The study population consisted of 10 women (52.63%) and 9 men (47.37%), aged between 16 and 83 years. The largest group consisted of patients aged up to 30 years - 9 patients (47.37%). The majority of patients - 11 patients (59.89%) were in a severe condition. An overwhelming number reported intentional poisoning - 16 cases (84.21%), including five suicide attempts (31.25%). Patients took other drugs and medicines in addition to baclofen. The most common was ethanol - 8 people (42.11%), followed by NSAIDs - 5 people (26.32%). Conclusions: In order to prevent complications following the use of baclofen, it is very important to educate patients, their family members and the general public about the mechanism of action of the drug itself, its function on the body and the risks of taking it. Prophylactic measures and education on how to deal with poisoning situations are necessary, as they are entirely preventable with immediate diagnosis and treatment.

Introduction and purpose: Detergents are compounds that constitute the main component of cleaning products. Due to their varied chemical structure, they have different functions and a wide range of applications. The aim of this study is to draw attention to the problem of toxic effects of detergents on the basis of analysis of cases of detergent poisoning by patients of the Toxicology and Cardiology Ward of the Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński Provincial Hospital in Lublin. Material and methods: The study was retrospective in nature. It used an analysis of the medical records of 11707 intoxications in patients between 01.01.2013 and 31.12.2022, from which a group of individuals with a diagnosis of T55 according to the ICD 10 classification "Toxic effects of soaps and detergents" consisting of 36 cases was selected. Results: The study population consisted of 18 (50%) women and 18 (50%) men. The majority- 19 patients (52.78%) were exposed to the toxic effects of detergents accidentally. 10 patients (27.78%) were suicide attempts. Accompanying medical conditions were mostly psychiatric disorders, with alcohol dependence syndrome predominating - 9 cases (25%). The majority - 33 patients (91.67%) intoxified themselves with detergents in the form of liquids and solids by the oral route . Conclusions: Despite their usefulness in households and industry, detergents contribute to adverse health effects in situations of accidental exposure or intentional intake. In order to reduce the number of complications, preventive measures should be implemented - such as storing detergents in less accessible areas, in original boxes with retained labels, and increasing funding for psychological-psychiatric care in a crisis situation.

Introduction: Poisonings with non-beverage alcohols remain a significant problem in contemporary toxicology. Due to the large quantity and severe course of intoxications with methanol, the authors of this study focused primarily on poisonings with this substance. Methanol is widely used in industry. Its toxicity is attributed to its metabolites - formaldehyde and formic acid. Poisonings with methanol often lead to the patient's death due to a wide range of complications associated with progressive metabolic acidosis. Material and Methods: The study is of a retrospective nature. It involved the analysis of medical records of patients admitted to the department of toxicology in 2022 after the consumption of non-beverage alcohols, with a particular focus on methanol. Data on the number of individuals admitted due to non-beverage alcohol intoxication between 2018 and 2022 was also analyzed. Results: Over the last 5 years (2018-2022), 36 individuals were hospitalized in the Clinical Toxicological-Cardiological Department due to non-beverage alcohol poisoning, with 16 (44.4%) cases involving methanol. In the year 2022, the department admitted 10 individuals aged 18 to 68, and 5 (50%) of them consumed methanol. Among the hospitalized, 90% were male, and 60% came from rural areas. Deliberate intoxications accounted for 70% of the cases. Four hospitalizations (40%) resulted in patient death. All deaths were associated with methanol intoxication. Conclusions: Non-beverage alcohol is often used by people with alcohol dependence syndrome. Among non-beverage alcohols, patients most often reached for methanol. Its consumption is associated with a high mortality rate and should be taken very seriously and treated immediately.

13. Why Do Females Choose to Study Humanities or Social Sciences, While Males Prefer Technology or Science? Some Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Predictors

The article attempts to answer the question why females prefer humanities/social studies, whereas males opt for technology/science. For this purpose, the study majors selected by 445 females and 431 males were linked by logit functions with: (1) parents' and (2) teachers' expectancies, (3) students' self-expectancies, (4) their self-concepts of abilities and (5) time spent on learning mathematics and (6) literacy, (7) test results in mathematics and (8) literacy, (9) gender of mathematics, and (10) literacy teacher in the 12th grade. Interaction effects of the mathematics and literacy teacher's gender with the abovementioned predictors were also quantified. Females' selections were mostly influenced by teachers' expectancies, while for males, by their self-concepts. The teacher's gender modified tested relations in five (females) and nine (males) cases. The results were discussed on the grounds of the theory of intra- and interpersonal expectancies as learning regulators.

17. The Explicit Attitude of Adolescents Towards Peers with Cancer

The social stigma of cancer is a powerful source of stereotyping and prejudice against people affected by oncology disorders. The research problem is presented in the following question: what is the formal and content characteristic of the stereotype of adolescents with cancer shaped by healthy peers. The cross-sectional included 2,370 high school students in Poland. The frequency analysis of open-ended descriptions and exploratory factor analysis of attributes representing basic domains of human functioning revealed that adolescent cancer patients were characterized in three domains: emotional, social, and physical appearance. Furthermore, cancer was linked with negative explicit prejudice. The obtained results and their practical implications are discussed in light of theories of stigmatization, stereotyping, and prejudice against people with cancer.

Ao final da formação inicial docente, alguns estudantes já têm delineada a trajetória profissional a ser seguida. Uma das possibilidades que se apresenta aos futuros professores de Educação Física é a atuação na Educação Especial. Esse estudo tem por objetivo relatar a experiência de um professor de Educação Física atuante na Educação Especial, nas funções de professor e de gestor. Vislumbra-se propor uma reflexão acerca dos elementos que favoreceram a aquisição de competências profissionais no início da docência. O relato de experiência configura-se como narrativa, descrevendo experiência, lugar e tempo, com aporte teórico, legitimando ações e fenômenos científicos. As competências adquiridas na prática docente e na função de gestor configuram-se, através dos processos descritivo e reflexivo, como saberes oriundos da prática, podendo ser materializados. Ao final do estudo, verifica-se que a diversidade de ações possibilitou a aquisição das competências, consideradas em cada contexto de intervenção.

20. Linguistic sources of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination against circular migrants' children

The article presents the results of 4 experiments testing linguistically induced processes of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination of circular migrants’ children (so-called „euroorphans”). Using the semantic supraliminal priming procedure the schemata of „euroorphan”, „orphan”, „euro” and „child” (control condition) werearoused, and then the subjects were asked to complete experimental task. Participants from „euroorphan” and „orphan” condition (a) were more inclined to associate ambiguous material (fingerprints) with the low intelligence of their alleged owners (exp. 1), (b) more/less accurately identified the expression of sadness/happiness emotions presented in the photos of children’s faces (exp. 2) and (c) were less patient, interrupting the investigator's activity faster(exp. 3) than subjects from „child” as well as „euro” and „orphan” conditions, taken together. The obtained results were summarized in two meta-analyses. The average effect size of „euroorphan” label ranged from d-Cohen = 0.608 to 1.614.

The bioactivity of the versatile biodegradable biopolymer poly(lactic acid) (PLA) can be obtained by combining it with natural or synthetic compounds. This paper deals with the preparation of bioactive formulations involving the melt processing of PLA loaded with a medicinal plant (sage) and an edible oil (coconut oil), together with an organomodifed montmorillonite nanoclay, and an assessment of the resulting structural, surface, morphological, mechanical, and biological properties of the biocomposites. By modulating the components, the prepared biocomposites show flexibility, both antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, as well as a high degree of cytocompatibility, being capable to induce the cell adherence and proliferation on their surface. Overall, the obtained results suggest that the developed PLA-based biocomposites could potentially be used as bioactive materials in medical applications.

22. Four Mediation Models of Teacher Expectancy Effects on Students' Outcomes in Mathematics and Literacy

The study tested 4 direct and 28 indirect teacher expectancy effects on students' results in the mathematics and literacy sections of the matriculation test, and their final marks in the 12th-grade mathematics and literacy class. The following were considered as mediators: student self-esteem, their self-expectancy, and time spent learning mathematics and literacy. The study involved 1374 first year college students. Conducted path analyses revealed: (1) the total teacher expectancy effects was the strongest for final marks in mathematics, followed by test results in mathematics, test results in literacy, and final marks in literacy; (2) the direct effect was stronger than the total indirect teacher expectancy effects in the case of mathematics, while for literacy outcomes, the order of the effects was reversed; (3) the direct teacher expectancy effects were positive; the indirect effects reversed after including student self-esteem/student self-expectancy into relations between teachers' expectancy and mathematics and literacy outcomes; (4) teachers' expectancy was mediated most strongly by student self-esteem, time spent learning, and student self-expectancy, or by student self-expectancy and time spent learning, respectively for mathematics and literacy outcomes; (5) the impact of teachers' expectancy was stronger than student self-expectancy for mathematics, but was the same or weaker for literacy outcomes, respectively. The obtained results were discussed in the light of the theory and results of studies concerning teacher expectancy effects.

23. The Teacher's Pet Phenomenon 25 Years On

- Abstract
The teacher's pet phenomenon is widely recognised and negatively viewed by students and teachers. Teachers that favour selected students adversely affect the emotional climate in the classroom, as well as the social development and academic achievements of students. Despite the indicated consequences, the phenomenon is surprisingly rarely studied. Analysis of data gathered from 2164 students and 138 teachers showed that respondents perceived the phenomenon as widespread at each stage of education. Students assessed the phenomenon more negatively than teachers, although this evaluation was modified by respondents' views on two hypothetical types of pets, i.e., pet-leader versus pet-rejected. Teachers perceived the phenomenon negatively in the subgroup that described pets using attributes that are characteristic of leaders, and less negatively in the subgroup that described pets using attributes characteristic of rejected students. This pattern was reversed among students. The similarity between these findings and the results of previous studies suggest that the phenomenon is universal in temporal and spatial terms, and the differences in its reception discovered in various groups of respondents can be described through an inverted, U-shaped function.

Over the past few years, virtual assistant solutions used in Contact Center systems are gaining popularity. One of the main tasks of the virtual assistant is to recognize the intentions of the customer. It is important to note that quite often the actual intention expressed in a conversation is also directly influenced by the emotions that accompany that conversation. Unfortunately, scientific literature has not identified what specific types of emotions in Contact Center applications are relevant to the activities they perform. Therefore, the main objective of this work was to develop an Emotion Classification for Machine Detection of Affect-Tinged Conversational Contents dedicated directly to the Contact Center industry. In the conducted study, Contact Center voice and text channels were considered, taking into account the following families of emotions: anger, fear, happiness, sadness vs. affective neutrality of the statements. The obtained results confirmed the usefulness of the proposed classification—for the voice channel, the highest efficiency was obtained using the Convolutional Neural Network (accuracy, 67.5%; precision, 80.3; F1-Score, 74.5%), while for the text channel, the Support Vector Machine algorithm proved to be the most efficient (accuracy, 65.9%; precision, 58.5; F1-Score, 61.7%).

This review presents the book Judô: caminho das medalhas, written by PhD Professor Alexandre Velly Nunes, published in Brazilian Portuguese in 2013 by Kazuá. This work comes from the doctoral research of the author, who interviewed about 90 personages from the history of Brazilian judo in four years of studies. The objective was to present the origins of this sport in the country based on the oral history of the life of Brazilian athletes, who were medalists in World Championships and Olympic Games, and their sensei. I make a brief presentation of the author and summarize the contents of the book, followed by my comments and conclusion.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi analisar as preocupações de professores de Educação Física considerando o nível de ensino e o vínculo empregatício. Participaram do estudo 61 professores de Educação Física de Balneário Camboriú, SC. Na coleta de dados foi utilizado um questionário sociodemográfico e a Escala de Preocupações de Professores. Os resultados indicaram que os professores eram muito preocupados com a tarefa e o impacto e observou-se associação significativa da dimensão consigo com o nível de ensino, enquanto que em relação ao vínculo empregatício dos professores investigados constatou-se associação significativa com a dimensão tarefa. Conclui-se que os diferentes níveis de atuação e o tipo de vínculo empregatício podem interferir nas inquietações associadas aos docentes.

ObjectiveWe evaluated atrial fibrillation (AF) patients’ perceptions of anticoagulation treatment with dabigatran or a vitamin K antagonist (VKA) for stroke prevention, according to accepted indications.MethodsThe RE-SONANCE observational, prospective, multicentre, international study used the validated Perception on Anticoagulant Treatment Questionnaire (PACT-Q) to assess patients with AF already taking a VKA who were switched to dabigatran (cohort A), and newly diagnosed patients initiated on either dabigatran or a VKA (cohort B). Visit 1 (V1) was at baseline, and visit 2 (V2) and visit 3 (V3) were at 30–45 and 150–210 days after baseline, respectively. Primary outcomes were treatment satisfaction and convenience in cohort A at V2 and V3 versus baseline, and in cohort B for dabigatran and a VKA at V2 and V3.ResultsThe main analysis set comprised 4100 patients in cohort A and 5365 in cohort B (dabigatran: 3179; VKA: 2186). Background: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD–Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. Methods and results: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012–2016). The aim of the study was to evaluate the toxicity of moulders of felt liners impregnated with resins. After the mounting of the liners in sewerage, the explorer has revealed a decrease in the efficiency of treatment in biological units. The putative cause of this phenomenon might have been an increase in the toxicity of the sewage flowing through the pipes with resin impregnated liners. In order to confirm this thesis, the moulders of the liners were taken to the laboratory to investigate their acute toxicity by a Microtox assay. Two types of liners – impregnated with styrene resin and impregnated with styrene-free resin – were tested. Both moulders were incubated in different media (raw wastewaters, synthetic wastewaters, and distilled water) and under several incubation conditions. The obtained extracts were subjected to Microtox 81.9% Screening Test. The chosen, questionable in the terms of screening results, sample was further subjected to 81.9% Basic Test. The obtained results clearly indicate that the ecotoxicity of the moulders of liners impregnated with styrene-free resin is the issue of concern. The results are surprising, as the substitution of styrene by other components in curable resins is aimed at improving their toxicity properties. However, the styrene-free resin revealed to be responsible for an increase in the sewage toxicity. These results prompt undertaking the ecotoxicity monitoring of materials used in sewerage renovations – not only for the environment protection, but also for the prevention of possible problems in wastewater treatment plants exploitation.

The experience report aims to verify the applicability of fighting content within early childhood education. Therefore, the planning of the classes was done through Didactic Units. This proposal was made through opposition games, with a group of 14 children from 5 to 6 years old. In addition, the children were able to practice the opposition games, understanding the rules and responding to the motor requirements of each game. Regarding the concepts, children can differentiate fights from struggles, including identifying the presented modalities. After the application of the Didactic Units and its evaluation, it is verified that the prejudices about teaching fights in physical education are not justified. In summary, the experience’s success was possibly because the content was applied in a planned and systematized way, using evaluation, both children and of the Didactic Units proposal., El relato de experiencia tiene como objetivo verificar la aplicabilidad del contenido luchas dentro de la educación infantil. Para ello, la planificación de las aulas fue realizada por medio de Unidades Didácticas. Esta propuesta se realizó a través de partidos de oposición, con un grupo de 14 niños de 5 a 6 años de edad. Además, los niños consiguieron practicar los juegos de oposición, comprendiendo las reglas y respondiendo a las exigencias motoras de cada juego. En cuanto a los conceptos, los niños logran diferenciar las luchas de las peleas, incluso identificando las modalidades presentadas. Después de la aplicación de la Unidades Didácticas y su evaluación, parece que los prejuicios respecto a la enseñanza de las luchas en Educación Física no están justificados. En resumen, el éxito de la experiencia posiblemente se debió a que los contenidos se aplicaron de forma planificada y sistematizada, utilizando la evaluación, tanto de los niños como de la propuesta de la Unidade Didáctica, O relato de experiência tem como objetivo verificar a aplicabilidade do conteúdo lutas dentro da educação infantil. Para tanto, o planejamento das aulas foi realizado por meio de Unidades Didáticas. Esta proposta foi realizada por meio de jogos de oposição, com um grupo de 14 crianças de 5 a 6 anos de idade. Ademais, as crianças conseguiram praticar os jogos de oposição, compreendendo as regras e respondendo às exigências motoras de cada jogo. Em relação aos conceitos, as crianças conseguiram diferenciar as lutas das brigas, inclusive identificando as modalidades apresentadas. Após a aplicação da Unidade Didática e avaliação da mesma, constata-se que os preconceitos em relação ao ensino das lutas na Educação Física não se justificam. Em síntese, o êxito da experiência possivelmente deveu-se em função de o conteúdo ser aplicado de forma planejada e sistematizada, utilizando-se de avaliação, tanto das crianças quanto da proposta da Unidade Didática.

- Abstract
Este estudo apresenta um relato de experiência sobre o trabalho desenvolvido com crianças participantes de um projeto de extensão universitária de judô, em Porto Alegre, durante a pandemia da COVID-19, no ano de 2020. A orientação recebida dos órgãos de saúde para o cumprimento do distanciamento social como medida para conter a propagação da COVID-19 impactou significativamente a rotina das pessoas, uma vez que ficaram afastadas de suas atividades presenciais. O objetivo do trabalho foi ofertar uma proposta de ensino on-line de judô que, além de trazer os aspectos técnicos da modalidade, contribuísse para promoção da saúde psicossocial dos participantes, reduzindo os impactos do isolamento social. A turma observada foi composta por 20 crianças de ambos os sexos, com idades entre 8 e 13 anos, praticantes de judô há pelo menos 1 ano. Elas tiveram aulas de judô com duração de 45 minutos cada, três vezes por semana, entre os meses de junho e dezembro, ministradas através da plataforma Google Meet. Além da adaptação ao treinamento dos aspectos técnicos, foram propostos também momentos de conversa em cada encontro. Foi observado que todos os participantes apresentaram comprometimento com as aulas, mantendo bom nível de assiduidade, bem como dedicação para o aprendizado técnico em um formato diferente ao qual estavam acostumados. A experiência permitiu constatar que a prática do judô, mesmo no formato on-line, é possível, e assim, foi possível contribuir para a manutenção da atividade física e do aprendizado técnico, bem como para a promoção da saúde psicossocial dos participantes.

41. Early Stage of Atherosclerosis in Aortocoronary Saphenous Vein Grafts: Intravascular Ultrasound Study

Abstract Introduction: Angiographically visible plaques in patent vein grafts are usually detected years after surgery. Our aim was to examine early plaque formation in vein grafts. Methods: Bypass angiography and intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS) examination were performed on 77 aortocoronary saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) implanted in 36 patients during the first 2 years after CABG. In each graft, a good quality 25 mm ultrasound image was analyzed. We measured: plaque area, lumen area, external elastic membrane (EEM) area, graft area and wall area. For the comparative assessment of SVGs, the index plaque area/EEM area was calculated. Data were analyzed for the following 4 time periods: I – 0-4 months (22 grafts), II – 5-8 months (23 grafts), III – 9-12 months (19 grafts) and IV – 13-16 months (13 grafts) after CABG. Student’s t and Fisher-Snedecor tests were used for the purpose of statistical analysis in this retrospective study. Results: In period I, plaque formation (neointimal) was observed in 10 grafts (45%), with a mean plaque area of 1.59 mm., in 6 grafts (26%) in period II, with a mean plaque area of 1.03 mm. and in 15 grafts (71%) in period III, with a mean plaque area of 1.41 mm., and in all (100%) grafts in period IV, with mean plaque area of 2,3 mm.. Average index plaque area/EEM area in periods I, II, III and IV were 0.12, 0.08, 0.13 and 0.22. We have showed a significant plaque increase between periods II and IV(P=0.038). Conclusion: IVUS showed plaque in about 40% of venous grafts during the first year after CABG. Between 13-16 months plaque was visible in all studied grafts.

Este artigo trata sobre a relação entre a prática do judô e o desenvolvimento de comportamentos socialmente competentes de crianças. O judô foi sistematizado como método de educação por Jigoro Kano, que propõe a educação integral do indivíduo, incluindo, portanto, sua educação psicossocial. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar e analisar a relação entre a prática do judô e o desenvolvimento de comportamentos socialmente competentes em crianças, através do aprendizado de habilidades sociais (HS), na perspectiva de instrutores de judô. Realizamos entrevistas semiestruturadas com 8 (oito) sensei[1]. As informações obtidas foram analisadas e categorizadas qualitativamente por meio do método de análise de conteúdo. Constatamos que os elementos da cultura japonesa que compõem a estruturação das aulas, como as regras de conduta no dojô[2], o sistema de hierarquia e as formas de treinamento, podem contribuir para o aprendizado de HS dos praticantes. A figura do sensei foi considerada primordial por sua representação e influência sobre os alunos mais jovens. Concluímos que o judô possui elementos que o caracterizam como atividade promotora de comportamentos socialmente competentes, contanto que a prática esteja alinhada com os princípios filosóficos e pedagógicos originais propostos por Jigoro Kano.[1] Sensei é a nomeação dada ao instrutor de Judô.[2] Dojô é a nomeação dada ao local para prática de Judô.

45. Neointima development in externally stented saphenous vein grafts

Introduction : The main limitation of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is rapid neointimal hyperplasia leading to graft failure. Aim : To assess plaque formation in saphenous vein grafts (SVG) covered by an external Dacron stent in comparison with the classical technique. Material and methods : In the study group vein grafts covered by external stent mesh made of Dacron were implanted. An intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS) study was performed in 35 aorto-coronary SVG covered by an external Dacron stent and in 64 normal SVG during the first year after CABG. In each SVG 25 mm of good quality IVUS image, volumes of lumen, plaque (neointima), outer border of the vein graft (external SVG) and adventitia were calculated in three time periods: 0–130 days, 130–260 days and 260–390 days. Results : Between the first and second time period, lumen volume (mm3) was reduced from 10.33 ±4.4, to 6.80 ±2.23 in the second period and 5.69 ±1.26 in the third one. This effect was much less marked in normal grafts. The corresponding lumen volume (mm3) was: 10.90 ±3.9, 9.15 ±2.94 and 8.92 ±2.93 in consecutive time periods. Plaque volume (mm3) did not change in control grafts during the course of the study, but it increased very significantly in stented grafts from 0.86 ±1.24 in the first period to 2.70 ±1.58 in the second and 3.29 ±2.66 in the third one. Conclusions : The experimental technique of implanting SVG covered with an external elastic Dacron stent seems to be inferior to traditional ones. This is probably due to the more complicated process of vein implantation and higher micro-injury occurrence during the surgery.

One of the challenges that physicians face is the uncertainty that their therapy of choice will be effective. A reason why therapeutic treatments often fall short in efficacy remains their limited presence and accumulation at the intended site of action. This challenge may be overcome by utilizing non-invasive molecular imaging. Attaching a radiolabel to the therapeutic, one may assess whether or not a drug accumulates at its target site, which may then allow one to more effectively predict whether patients may benefit from the treatment, thus offering patients a form of personalized medicine. Methods: Using a Zr-89 radionuclide and µPET/CT imaging technology, we assessed the pharmacokinetics (PK) of a novel chemotherapy tagged nanoparticle within various murine models engrafted with cell-line derived xenografts and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) tumors. Two other, non-therapeutic, versions of the nanoparticle were also radiolabeled and imaged so as to determine their potential as surrogate imaging probes for the therapeutic version. Tumor bearing mice were injected with 150 – 200 Ci of the Zr-89 labeled nanoparticles. Serial images were taken at 1, 24, 48, 72, 96, and 216 hours post-injection. Tumor and organ accumulation of the tracer were determined from the mouse µPET images. After the last imaging time-point, mice were euthanized and tumor, blood, and organs were weighted and counted. The percent injected dose per gram (%ID/g) of tissue was determined. Results: Nanoparticle radiolabeling was greater than 90% yield and 99% purity. µPET/CT time activity curves (TACs) showed very similar PK trends between the therapeutic and non-therapeutic nanoparticles. A steady accumulation followed by a plateauing of the nanoparticle concentrations within the growing tumors, as well as a clearance from all of the major organs (brain, heart, liver, and kidneys) was noted. Tumor maximum %ID/mL (5.81 – 18.14) occurred between the 72 and 96 hour time points, and ex vivo BioD experiments confirmed all of our in vivo PK findings (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Similar PK and BioD patterns between the therapeutic and non-therapeutic versions of the nanoparticle have validated that the imaging probes can in fact be used to predict the uptake and accumulation of the therapeutic nanoparticle.
