In the hilly area of Gioia Tauro (Calabria, Southern Italy), lemon orchards are grown in consociation with centuriesold olive trees. Lemons are partially shaded by olive canopies and the microclimate at the level of their canopies is suitable for plants growth and quality productions. Under these conditions, lemon trees are grown even without irrigation, providing, despite this limitation, a quality product. This study aimed to i) investigate the qualitative characterisation of two clonal selections of the lemon cultivar Femminello, F. Siracusano (S) and F. Zagara bianca (ZB), from the described intercropping, on irrigated (I) and nonirrigated (NI) crops; ii) assess the quality preservation during cold storage, in order to evaluate the availability of lemons for marketing in a period of shortage such as the summer season. Fruits were harvested at commercial maturity, and cold stored at 10±1°C and RH 8590%, for 60 days. Decay incidence, physiological disorders, weight loss, and the main physicalchemical parameters were assessed at harvest (T0) and every 15 days (T15, T30, T45, T60). The absence of decay and physiological disorders was observed throughout the 60day storage period, in both clonal selections under the two management conditions. The weight loss was greater in fruits from irrigated lemon groves of both S and ZB. S_I showed significantly lower fruits weight and higher titratable acidity than S_NI. Total soluble solids and titratable acidity were statistically lower for ZB_I than for NI fruits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

La dialettalità della lingua di Camilleri traspare anzitutto sul piano lessicale. Ma le analisi fin qui note sulle parole “dialettali”, più o meno ibridizzate (o non precisamente italiane), della produzione camilleriana sembrano scaturire da un’impostazione che tende ad analizzarle dal punto di vista del significante: le parole non italiane rispecchiano i lessemi effettivamente presenti nel dialetto (e/o eventualmente registrati dalla lessicografia dialettale), oppure li evocano semplicemente, in quanto sottoposti a modificazioni fonetico/morfologiche (e quindi fono-ortografiche) ora in direzione della lingua, quelle di matrice dialettale, ora in direzione del dialetto, quelle di matrice italiana? Le eventuali classificazione del lessico camilleriano basate su tali presupposti restano effettivamente connesse una valutazione “esterna” delle voci dialettali/ibridizzate: di ogni parola del codice dialetto viene considerata la sua base (autoctona o italiana?) e la sua uscita (mantiene il vocalismo finale dialettale, si italianizza?); di ogni parola del codice lingua viene valutata, negli stessi termini, la sua vocale finale (coincide essa con quella dell’italiano, oppure si dialettizza?) e la veste fonetica della base (le sue vocali e le sue consosonanti restano vicine all’italiano, se ne discostano e quanto se ne discostano per avvicinarsi al modello dialettale?). Se provassimo invece concentrarci non tanto sul gioco dell’interferenza, quanto su quello della “dialettalità” del lessico camilleriano e tentassimo, dunque, di analizzarlo da una diversa prospettiva, potremmo invece e intanto considerare, con una operazione ovvia e perfino banale, che l’insieme del lessico del codice dialetto è composto 1) di parole autoctone; 2) di parole di origine italiana che, nel tempo, e in maniera massiccia nel ‘900, hanno scalzato quelle tradizionali (italianismi contro arcaismi); 3) di parole che, in virtù della storia parzialmente comune del siciliano e del toscano, sono (da sempre) patrimonialmente presenti nell’italiano e nel dialetto (chiazza, cchiù, firmari). Una eventuale partizione (anche) del lessico dialettale camilleriano secondo queste tre categorie – parole autoctone, italianeggianti, e appartenenti (storicamente) al dialetto e alla lingua – permetterebbe, forse, di saggiare la componente dialettale del lessico di Camilleri da un diverso punto di vista: quello culturale, o, meglio, quello della cultura dialettale. Se la componente dialettale del lessico camilleriano venisse assunta come lo specchio dell’effettivo dialetto dello scrittore e quindi come il riflesso abbastanza verosimile della dinamica di incontro/scontro tra conservazione e innovazione nel lessico dialettale di un parlante-autore anziano, potrebbe essere possibile valutare quale grado di arcaicità e autoctonia lessicale (non necessariamente voluta o consapevole) caratterizzi il suo dialetto letterario. A partire da alcuni recenti romanzi del ciclo di Montalbano, si mostrerà come le parole autoctone del lessico camilleriano siano sostanzialmente suddivisibili in due categorie: 1) parole di alta frequenza (con moltisime occorrenze all’interno di ciascuna opera), per di più condivise dagli autori plurilingui predecessori di Camilleri (Sciascia, Consolo, Bufalino e altri); 2) parole di bassa frequenza, “somministrate” cum grano salis (con pochissime occorrenze in ciascuna opera e nell’intero corpus), per di più esclusive del lessico di Camilleri e dunque assenti nei suoi predecessori (ma, curiosamente, usate da altri autori siciliani comparsi recentemente sulla csena editoriale!). Questi lessemi, che spesso appaiono diatopicamente marcati, si costituiscono come una sorta di “camillerese”, in grado di svelare come il dialetto dell’autore, al pari del suo plurilinguismo, sia ontologico-esperienziale e non stilistico.

Quale teoria e concezione del dialetto soggiace all’idea di descrivere il siciliano come «abbastanza distinto dall’italiano tipico tanto da poter essere considerato un idioma separato» (Ethnologue, MOSELEY e ASHER 1994, 54)? Un certo ruolo deve avere la distorta pratica di valutare le varietà dell’italoromanzo come dialetti dell’italiano, pratica, questa, che, per altro, induce a proporre separazioni e distinzioni al punto da invocare, per alcune di queste varietà, lo statuto di «lingue madri». Se poi queste “lingue”, nella prospettiva ecolinguistica, presentano una serie di condizioni che ne mettono a rischio la sopravvivenza, entrano ne “Il Libro Rosso delle lingue in pericolo” (Red Book of Endangered Languages) e, dal 2009, nell’edizione interattiva online de L’”Atlante Mondiale delle Lingue in Pericolo” (Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger) promosso dall’Unesco. Tra il settembre e l’ottobre del 2014 la stampa nazionale ha dedicato ampio spazio alla decisione della Apple di inserire il siciliano e il napoletano tra le lingue disponibili nell’ultima versione di OS X Yosemite per Mac. Tale decisione, che permette di selezionare i due dialetti tra le lingue che possono essere usate per le impostazioni di sistema, a leggere gli articoli, parrebbe conseguenziale al riconoscimento del siciliano e del napoletano della caratteristica di «Lingue Madri”. In ogni caso, la decisione della Apple non implica che il nuovo computer parlerà (anche) i due dialetti, ma più semplicemente che li riconoscerà nel caso in cui vengano sviluppate applicazioni (App) che li utilizzino. La questione appare interessante connessa com’è anche allo sviluppo di strumenti informatici volti al riconoscimento automatico della voce (ma si pensi anche all’ipotesi progettuale di Skype di tradurre in tempo reale le conversazioni telematiche nelle diverse lingue usate nel corso delle call). Eppure esitono già e circolano nella rete diverse e numerose App in grado di parlare dialetto. Nel corso dell’intervento verranno allora discussi alcuni casi tra i quali quello di un traduttore (vocale) italiano-siciliano, usando il quale si possono imparare diverse parole siciliane per un percorso di apprendimento che prevede anche esercizi di ascolto e di pronuncia.È interessante, dunque, indagare la percezione l’ideologia (socio)linguistica di diversi operatori informatici (e rispettivi utenti) interessati a sviluppare e promuovere simili prodotti. Come viene risolto il problema dell’assenza di codificazione e standardizzazione? Quali le soluzioni ortografiche adottate? Quale grado di consapevolezza della variabilità traspare nella strutturazione (e nella presentazione) di tali strumenti? Quali sono i presupposti socio-culturali (ed economici) di queste App, anche considerando che molte di esse non sono scaricabili gratuitamente?

Background Video-assisted thoracoscopy is become a widely accepted approach for the resection of anterior mediastinal masses, including thymoma. The current trend is to reduce the number of ports and minimize the length of incisions to further decrease postoperative pain, chest wall paresthesia, and length of hospitalization. Herein, we reported an extended resection of thymoma in a patient with myasthenia gravis through an uniportal bilateral thoracoscopic approach. Case presentation A 74 years old woman with myasthenia gravis was referred to our attention for management of a 3.5 cm, well capsulate, thymoma. All laboratory and cardio-pulmonary tests were within normal; thus, she was scheduled for thymoma resection through an uniportal bilateral thoracoscopic approach. Under general anaesthesia and selective intubation, the patient was placed in a 60° right lateral decubitus. A 3 cm skin incision was performed in the fourth right intercostal space and, through that a 30° video-camera and working instruments were inserted without rib spreading. After complete dissection of the thymus and mediastinal fat, the contralateral pleura was opened, and, through that the specimen was pushed into the left pleural cavity. Then, the patient was placed in the left lateral decubitus. Similarly to the right side procedure, a 3-cm incision was performed in the fourth left intercostal space to complete thymic dissection and retrieve the specimen. No intraoperative and post-operative complications were found. The patient was discharged four days later. Pathological examination revealed a type A thymoma (Masaoka stage I). No recurrence was found at 18 months of follow-up Conclusions Bilateral single-port thoracoscopy is an available procedure for management of thymoma associated with myasthenia gravis. The less post-operative pain, the reduction of hospital stay and the better esthetic results are all potential advantages of this approach over traditional technique. Obviously, our impression should be validated by larger studies in terms of long-term oncological outcomes. 11 páginas, 4 figuras, 1 tabla.-- CDF Collaboration: et al., We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for a Higgs boson decaying to W+W-. The data correspond to an integrated total luminosity of 4.8 (CDF) and 5.4 (D0) fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. No excess is observed above background expectation, and resulting limits on Higgs boson production exclude a standard model Higgs boson in the mass range 162-166 GeV at the 95% C.L., We thank the Fermilab staff and the technical staffs of the participating institutions for their vital contributions. - Abstract
Purpose: Dermatologic adverse events commonly result in the interruption of oncologic treatment, and targeted therapies are the most frequently interrupted class of anticancer agents. Alopecia is a common cutaneous adverse event reported with CK4/6i therapy. Though the clinical characteristics and therapeutic response of EIA have been well documented, few studies have characterized alopecia in patients treated with CDK4/6i., Methods: This study analyzed a retrospective cohort of 28 breast cancer patients diagnosed with endocrine-induced alopecia (EIA) or CDKiA. Comparative analysis of the clinical characteristics of alopecia and therapeutic response to minoxidil was conducted. Therapeutic response to minoxidil (LDOM or topical [5%] solution or foam) was assessed by both Dean Scale and qualitative clinical improvement by comparison of pretreatment and posttreatment clinical images by single-blinded, board-certified academic dermatologists (ST and BD)., Results: CDKiA was clinically similar to androgenetic alopecia and specific vertex involvement was more common in patients treated with CDK4/6i + ET than endocrine monotherapy (n = 7 [70.0%] vs n = 4 [36.4%]; p = 0.04), respectively. After 4-6 months of minoxidil, there was a moderate to significant qualitative alopecia improvement in 80% of CDKiA patients versus 94.4% of EIA patients. Additionally, superior improvement of mean Dean Score grade was observed in EIA (with change from pre- to posttreatment - 0.44; p = 0.0002)., Conclusion: Compared to endocrine monotherapy, patients on combination CDK4/6i + ET had greater extent of vertex involvement and were more recalcitrant to minoxidil. The preferential vertex involvement observed in CDKiA suggests that combination therapy with minoxidil and topical antiandrogens with poor systemic absorption should be studied in this setting., (© 2023.
