1. Traveling Wave Method for Event Localization and Characterization of Power Transmission Lines

Abstract

Traveling wave theory is deployed today to improve the monitoring of transmission lines in electrical power grids. Most traveling wave methods require prior knowledge of the wave propagation of the transmission line, which is a major source of error as the value changes during the operation of the line. To improve the localization of events on transmission lines, we propose a new online localization method that simultaneously determines the frequency-dependent wave propagation characteristic from the traveling wave measurements of the event. Compared to conventional methods, this is achieved with one additional traveling wave measurement, but the method can still be applied in different measurement setups. We have derived the method based on the complex continuous wavelet transform. The accuracy of the method is evaluated in a simulation with a frequency-dependent transmission line model of the IEEE 39-bus system. The method was developed independently of the type of event and evaluated in test setups considering different lengths of the monitored line, line types and event locations. The localization accuracy is compared with existing online methods and analyzed with regard to the characterization capabilities. Abstract

Exoskeletons are becoming the reference technology for assistance and augmentation of human motor functions in a wide range of application domains. Unfortunately, the exponential growth of this sector has not been accompanied by a rigorous risk assessment (RA) process, which is necessary to identify the major aspects concerning the safety and impact of this new technology on humans. This situation may seriously hamper the market uptake of new products. This paper presents the results of a survey that was circulated to understand how hazards are considered by exoskeleton users, from research and industry perspectives. Our analysis aimed to identify the perceived occurrence and the impact of a sample of generic hazards, as well as to collect suggestions and general opinions from the respondents that can serve as a reference for more targeted RA. Our results identified a list of relevant hazards for exoskeletons. Among them, misalignments and unintended device motion were perceived as key aspects for exoskeletons’ safety. This survey aims to represent a first attempt in recording overall feedback from the community and contribute to future RAs and the identification of better mitigation strategies in the field.

Abstract

The present invention is related to an anatomical model for measuring the interaction of an exoskeleton with a biological limb assisted by said exoskeleton. The present invention is characterized by a special structure of the device formed by an inner structure comprising a first structural element and a second structural element. The first structural element and a second structural element are joined by means of a first joint, preferably with rotation capability. Likewise, the device comprises a first casing and a second casing, each of the casings covering the first structural element and a second structural element respectively. The device is further characterized in that each of the shells is divided into a plurality of segments and, each segment is attached to the internal structure by means of a sensor that allows to provide a signal representing the loads that the exoskeleton exerts on the region corresponding to that segment.

Abstract

In sports, acute and chronic injuries of athletes are common despite the growing knowledge and interest in the preventive activity in the sports practice. One of the main causes of injuries in athletes are their body asymmetries, which can only be dealt with if properly quantified. Despite the availability of several measuring systems, the majority of them do not allow segmental measurements and those that do are not portable. To solve the issue, a portable measuring system to measure the body asymmetries of the lower part of the human body was designed and manufactured. It measures and stores the data acquired by six accelerometers attached at the foot, tibia and pelvis of the human both legs. The system is compact, lightweight, portable and allowing a local data storage on the measuring device itself and triggering external signal to start the data acquisition. The system is driven by a sophisticated microcontroller that ensures data sampling at a high sampling rate. Results of a preliminary experimental system evaluation and validation are positive and encouraging for its further development and enhancement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Diplomsko delo obravnava načrtovanje ter izdelavo 6 osne robotske roke in gre skozi celoten postopek od ideje in načrtovanja do prototipov ter končne verzije. Pri vsakem postopku je podrobno predstavljen želeni cilj in opis poti ter sredstev za dosego tega cilja. Predstavljena sta dva prototipa robotske roke, opisani so postopki njihove izdelave, morebitne slabosti in napake ter odpravljanje napak. Predstavljeno je orodje, ki smo ga uporabljali, načrtovanje robota, izdelava obeh prototipov, izdelava elektronskih vezij in programiranje. Prav tako so predstavljene izboljšave, ki se bodo uporabile v prihodnjih prototipih. This thesis presents the designing and building of a 6-axis robot arm and covers the whole process from the concept and designing to the building of prototypes and of the final version. Each process, its objective and the means to achieve it is described in detail. Thesis presents two prototypes of a robot arm, describes how they were built, their possible weak points and defects and the corrective measures for those defects. Furthermore, the tools used in the project, the robot arm design process and the construction of two prototypes, the manufacturing of circuit boards and programming as well as the possible improvements to be used in the future prototypes are described.
