3. Assessment of risk factors for development of Type-II diabetes mellitus among working women in Berhampur, Orissa

Abstract

Objectives: 1) Assess general health condition and anthropological parameters of the working women. 2) Identify prevalence of Type-II Diabetes among them. 3) Assess risk factors associated with development of diabetes. 4) Educate them about Life Style Modifications. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study was carried out in six educational institutes. A total of 100 working women were selected as study population. During the two-month study period, Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) was estimated to identify the diabetics and the Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT). Information from the study population was collected through pre-tested questionnaire using several anthropometric measurements. Results: Out of 100 women, 24 were having FBS compatible with IGT or diabetes. The incidence was highest in 46 to 55 yr age group. 75% of women with diabetes or IGT were in higher income group. Body Mass Index was more than 25 kg/m 2 in maximum (75%) women having diabetes or IGT. 92% women with diabetes or IGT had their Waist Hip Ratio ≥0.85. Moreover, orientation towards healthy life style modification to control diabetes and its prevention was poor among the study population. Conclusion: Prevalence of diabetes and IGT was higher among urban working women and is increasing with increase in age. Obesity plays a major role in development of Type 2 diabetes. Several long- and short-term steps should be taken for promotion of healthy life style modifications to prevent diabetes and emergence of its complications.

Abstract

This research leads to carrying out the productivity and the efficiency of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) that have extensive applications in solar collectors. Due to the superior thermal as well as electrical properties, the use of CNTs has an important contribution to the nanotechnology revolution. Therefore, owing to the aforementioned vital points, this investigation intended to put forth the thermophysical properties of both single and multi-walled CNT nanofluids past a stretching surface. Additionally, an electrically conducting nanofluid flow phenomenon enriches due to the inclusion of dissipation (Ohmic heating) and external heat source/sink. The dimensional form of the three-dimensional fluid flow phenomena is transformed to a non-dimensional form with the use of similarity transformation and further numerical procedure is implemented to solve the nonlinear governing equations. The substantial significance of the characterizing parameters is presented briefly via figures and the comparative analysis with the earlier investigation is deployed through the table. However, the main findings of this study are as follows: A significant attenuation in the shear rate is marked for the enhanced inertial drag but it augments for the augmented values of the magnetization; further, particle concentrations of both the CNTs favor accelerating the fluid momentum as well as temperature distribution. Abstract

INTRODUCTION : Pharmacist also known as chemist or drugist is the health care professional who practice in pharmacy , the field of health science focusing on safe and effective medication use. Every day millions of people across the world visit community pharmacists for their health care needs. The aim of the present study was t o ass ess the working of pharmacists in the government sector of Ganjam District in the state of Odisha and difficulties arising out of their diverse role play. METHODS AND MATERIAL : It was a cross - sectional study carried out in the drug depot centre in the offi ce of Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Ganjam, Odisha between November 2013 to April 2014.A pretested scientifically designed questionnaire was used for collection of data. Data was collected in first ten days of every month at CDMO office drug depot . The data was analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics data in SPSS version 16.0. RESULTS: Data were collected from 114 pharmacists among them 85 pharmacists were only from PHC (n). It was found that 49% had experience > 20yrs followed by experience 10 - 20yrs (32%) and less than 10yrs was 19%. 48% had taken training for various programmes among them majority (23%) had taken training on RNTCP followed by NVBDCP . Only 17% had any training on supply chain management during the last 3 years . Regarding drug disposal 44% opined that they burned the expiry drugs and 22% returned them to suppliers. CONCLUSIONS: Pharmacist has significant impact on public health and improving patients quality of life in rural area , but in current sce nario the activities of pharmacists need improvement.

Abstract

Neurodevelopmental disorders with periventricular nodular heterotopia (PNH) are etiologically heterogeneous, and their genetic causes remain in many cases unknown. Here we show that missense mutations in the HECT domain of the E3 ubiquitin ligase NEDD4L lead to PNH associated with toes syndactyly, cleft palate and neurodevelopmental delay. Cellular and expression data showed a sensitivity of PNH-associated mutants to proteasome degradation. Moreover, in utero electroporation approach showed that PNH-related mutants and excess of wild type (WT) NEDD4L affect neurogenesis, neuronal positioning and terminal translocation. Further investigations, including rapamycin based experiments, revealed differential deregulation of pathways involved. Excess of WT NEDD4L leads to a disruption of Dab1 and mTORC1 pathways, while PNH-related mutations are associated with a deregulation of mTORC1 and AKT activities. Altogether, these data provide insights to better understand the critical role of NEDD4L in the regulation of mTOR pathways and their contributions in cortical development.
