The article presents research results on eight latin-american digital experiences, understood as belonging to independent journalism. The objective was to understand the emergence of a new cultural form, resulting from the region's territorial processes. The research bases itself on the Culture Studies and considers central the concept of cultural form, from Raymond Williams (1979). It goes through the productive process of the eight sites through the methodological protocol of the culture circuit, from Richard Johnson (2010). The results point towards the emergence of a cultural form, whose matrices are in both alternative and traditional journalism, a result of historical processes that generate a practice and product with particular characteristics. Afro-Brazilian religions are important religious and cultural manifestations that allows the afrodescendant to see and build himself as a subject in a community. Umbanda, more Brazilian and mixed, is classified by some as “whitish”, but is still a way for the black subject to manifest his origin, an origin that for centuries was tried to erase, after the diaspora of coming to Brazil. Based on references from Cultural Studies, the emergence of the Templo Escolas, particularly the Templo Escola Beira Mar, in Santa Cruz do Sul - RS, is studied as quite significant, as a way of democratizing and spreading the Umbanda religion. The study was bibliographically based, also consisting of interviews and unsystematic observation. The movement, in addition to disseminating knowledge, brings visibility to historically marginalized segments of society, that is, blacks, indigenous and the poor in general. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Carnival is part of popular culture in Brazil. However, in some regions of the country, this party is not given as much prominence as in others. In the municipality of Santa Cruz do Sul, in Vale do Rio Pardo/RS, the traditional street carnival, with samba schools and blocks, is the subject of disputes between carnival clubs, the government, and the private sector. This article discusses these disputes through the analysis of the two street carnivals that take place in town: the one known as Descida da Júlio, which initially emerges as an act of resistance to changes in the traditional street carnival proposed by the local government; and the one known as Bailinho de Carnaval da Borges, the result of an innovative initiative of local business owners. These two alternatives are analyzed as a means to discuss tensions in the cultural context, through the main national popular festival, having as background matters related to identity and the right to the city. This article follows the theory of cultural studies, in dialogue with the literature on urban and regional development. It is based on literature review and document analysis. This paper presents research which has investigated the appropriation and incorporation of communications technologies (SILVERSTONE, HIRSCH and MORLEY, 1996) by farming families in a specific rural area of Southern Brazil. The communicational perspective is adopted, associated with a socio-anthropological methodology. At the same time, the study brought into dialogue two distinct areas of knowledge - Communication and Regional Development. The original research was developed between 2014 to 2018, embrancing bibliographic and field research, and articulating a set of techniques such as form, photographic record, field report and interview. The analysis was based on the proposal of Jesús Martín-Barbero (2018), articulating the following analytical keys: institucionality, sociality, technicity, rituality, spatiality, temporality and mobility. The results point to the existence of contradictories movements of digital inclusion and exclusion, considering different aspects of access to communication technologies; to the strong mediation of space and time in the appropriation and incorporation of technologies; and to the constitution of a particular rurality for which ICTs are important components. This article discusses how the state's territorial identity was used in the regional brands branding, in the case of brand Polar beer, the brand portfolio of AmBev, in their advertising campaigns from 1999 to 2014. From this theme discutiu- The ratio of global capital versus the regional capital through branding and can analyze the strategic brand management study in its identification with the territory corresponding to the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The theoretical framework addressed the contemporary capitalism, theories about branding, cultural identity and a set of concepts, including, region and territory. There was a case study of Polar brand, based on literature review and documentary analysis of the campaigns. The results pointed to the use of the territory by the organizations as consumer arena the trademarks of their marketing products, exposing the contradictions of globalization and the territorial capital and brands. This article presents an ongoing research that investigates a relationship between the tobacco farming families in the south of Brazil and the communication technologies in their daily life. We study the practices and experiences of this social group as they interact with technologies. It aims to decentralize the analysis from one isolated relationship between social actors and the media, observing these relationships intersected by the specific circumstances of the work conditions and social life in the space scope of this study. We present the partial results of two exploratory fieldworks, highlighting that the arrival, in particular, of cell phone and the Internet are changing the family and personal lives.
