Following a brief examination of recent theories, this proposal describes the transmedia ideals, logic and values for journalism and explores how transmedia storytelling addresses the need to ensure the continued relevance of journalism. We test the ideals, logic and values and refine the evolving features and strategies employed by Spanish legacy media through case study analysis. Thus, this research analyses and describes the use of languages, genres and formats; strategies, resources and platforms for the creation, collaboration and distribution (News Lifecycle, Serrano-Tellería, Jin and Arroyo, 2019) of journalistic products about Covid-19, and determines whether a transmedia logic is being followed. Likewise, this study proposes a set of good practices that can be applied to other stories- products and media in everyday and planned routines. For this, the field work focuses on the analysis of two aspects: the interface design and the creation and dissemination of content. The pandemic represented a unique frame of analysis due to the intrinsic work conditions, routines and dynamics as well as its limitations and increased demands for information. Thus, we concluded that transmedia core values, ideals and logic offer a suitable framework to embrace in everyday media work and specifically, in journalism, to adapt, innovate and overcome its crisis and challenges, opportunities and potentials. Transmedia means an ideal, a logic, a group of values to bear in mind when constructing a story. To adapt storytelling to media production, bearing in mind all possible genres, languages, formats, semiotics and strategies is a fundamental step because audiences are used to consuming media on different devices and want the best of all of them to have a full experience.

The paper analyses the use of multimedia tools that young people use in order to communicate a journalistic product. The study focuses on the new digital platforms of journalistic content and examines the results of a research that explores the competences of "transmedia literacy" in Journalism students of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) over several courses. The text examines 28 multimedia reports presented by students through a quantitative and qualitative content analysis, and introduces the opinions of three focus groups with the authors of the projects. The study shows that the students confer a prominent role to the visual elements inside of their own reports. The analyzed works demonstrate, however, that the emotive components of the stories ignore aspects of transmedia journalism, and that among the students there is a terminological confusion about what a transmedia product is. The article identifies the prevalence of instrumental or technical literacy, linked to the inclusion of pictures and audio-visual content in their products, but not critical, both in the discourse and in the contents created by the students. DESIGN thinking ,TRANSMEDIA storytelling ,JOURNALISM ,DESIGN services ,PHYSIOLOGICAL adaptation - Abstract
Design thinking is not an alien concept to the field of transmedia storytelling. However, the distinction between fictional and non-fictional approaches to transmedia production indicates that there is an insufficiency in existing production methods, especially when transmedia news stories are taken into consideration. The lack of journalism perspective in existing transmedia production approaches calls for reconsideration of these methods. Therefore, this research proposes a toolkit which draws out the significance of design thinking for the practice of transmedia journalism that rests upon a complex, collective and human-centred production. The toolkit is later evaluated by a one-day workshop on the grounds of collectivity in process, sensibility to content, creativity in outcome and simplicity in design. Consequently, the research shows that the proposed design thinking toolkit serves as an effective comprehension, cooperation, adaptation, distinction and education tool for the field of transmedia journalism. Os dados foram colhidos presencialmente em escolas públicas brasileiras, visando avaliar as perceções e práticas dos estudantes quanto aos média e, consequentemente, às leituras transmédia da informação e à identificação da desinformação., Young people play an important role in combating misinformation, especially in Brazil, where the population under 30 represents more than 42% of the population. The relationship between young people and the media demands new forms of teaching pedagogy that can promote different levels of literacy. In this sense, school education can be the way to awaken new knowledge about the media in young people, helping them in the processes that affect journalistic information and the fight against misinformation. The convergence between the media allowed the proliferation of narratives that, with the democratization of digital networks and technological devices, began to circulate in a transmedia way. Changing the way information is produced, consumed and mediated. It can be considered, therefore, that the Culture of Convergence (Jenkins, 2019; Scolari, 2013) imposed new realities that cross the use of technologies, the public, the media market, the narratives produced by the media (…), until reaching the education. This research presents some data considered relevant, extracted from the master’s research in Communication Sciences by the University of Minho. The data correspond to research applied face-to-face in Brazilian public schools, with the objective of evaluating the level of literacy on the part of students regarding the average and, consequently, the transmedia readings of information and identification of misinformation.

This article discusses, from a Peircean semiotic perspective, (1) the logic of algorithms employed by Facebook to foster audience engagement as it relates to the spreadability of fake news in the context of transmedia journalism, and (2) how our own methods of fixation of beliefs influence this process. The methodological approach encompasses a qualitative conceptual study of Peircean semiotics, focusing on concepts such as truth, reality, representation, fixation of beliefs, and collateral experiences, as a proposition to investigate the relationship between algorithms, fake news, and transmedia journalism. The research findings point to the fact that social media networks such as Facebook have their share of responsibility in the current fake news furor, but audiences are also involved in this issue as their behavior and beliefs play an important role in feeding Facebook's algorithms. 16.
- Abstract
The incorporation of the Internet into society, as well as ICT and Web 2.0, have generated a total change in the functioning of the media. 17. Géneros periodísticos transmedia en el Ecuador. El caso de “La Posta”
- Abstract
In 2020, multiplatform models have increased their position in the digital information market as the competition of traditional media, which have progressively migrated from television, radio and press media to digital plataforms. The news coverage of the 2014 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup in Brazil encompassed various media platforms and the flow of information in the intersection between mass media (especially television) and social media (especially Twitter and Facebook). The research question that motivates this article is, ‘To what extent can Globo Network’s Brazilian coverage be characterized as a transmedia experience?’ The theoretical framework focuses on transmedia journalism, and the methodology is based on the analytical model regarding transmedia news coverage of planned events developed by Gambarato and Tárcia. The research findings demonstrate that the Globo Network coverage was modestly transmediatic, presenting mechanisms of audience engagement and limited expansion of content within technological advances. However, there was no solid transmedia plan aiming at articulating transmediality to build a universe designed within various integrated media platforms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the meanings of transmedia journalism, which involves the expansion, not the repetition, of news content and then presents the development of a new analytical model that focuses on the coverage of planned events in news media. Planned events are temporal occurrences that are normally well schematized and publicized in advance. The proposed model addresses the fundamental features involved in transmedia strategies for media coverage to contribute to scholars' analytic needs and to guide journalists in developing transmedia strategies in the context of the news coverage of planned events. Multiplatform news media production is already a reality that, although probably more modest than comprehensive, will inevitably grow and improve. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Por fim, busca-se avaliar de forma descritiva o domínio de literacia para os média, tecnologias, informações e desinformações nos jovens estudantes., The relationship between young people and the media demands new forms of teaching pedagogy that can promote different forms of literacy. In this sense, school education can be the way to awaken in young people media literacy, which can help them in the processes that affect transmedia readings of (dis)information, so that they are able to act in the fight against misinformation. The convergence between the media made possible the proliferation of narratives that, with the democratization of digital networks and technological devices, began to circulate in a transmedia way; changing the way information is produced, consumed and mediated (Jenkins, 2019; Scolari, 2013). In this way, convergence imposes new realities that cross the use of technologies, the public, the media market, the narratives produced by the media (…) until reaching education. The latter is responsible for promoting knowledge, reading and interpreting the reality that unfolds through transmedia information. School education can contribute so that students can consciously and critically participate in this reality in which the media, networks and society participate in the construction of knowledge. Believing that the convergence between school education and media teaching is necessary, this research intends to seek elements that help to understand the different aspects of convergence, going through transmedia narratives from journalism to misinformation. It is intended, through field research, to identify how young Brazilian students from public schools interact with the media, with information and misinformation having convergence as a principle. Finally, we seek to descriptively assess the literacy domain for the media, technologies, information and misinformation in young students.

Technological advances have modified news media practices, introduced alternative formats for conveying information, and are transforming journalistic messages. However, the essential principles governing journalistic practice, those which the ethical codes support and enshrine, remain unaltered. The media outlets and journalists are not unaware of the necessary adaptations to their working lives which this situation demands, but editors and managers find it difficult to accept, and therefore incorporate, those emerging trends which would permit a real improvement in the quality of the products they create and offer to society: firstly, the introduction of ethical standards (ISO standards, ethics seals) into production, and secondly, the channelling of citizens’ active participation in the reporting process (transmedia storytelling, social media). These are only being assimilated slowly and ineffectively. The media sector business model has to embrace and integrate both these realities into its organization and production system in order to survive and truly fulfil its public service mission.

Journalism in Ecuador is going through a process of adaptation due to the social phenomenon derived from the health emergency Covid-19. In 2020, multiplatform models have increased their position in the digital information market as the competition of traditional media, which have progressively migrated from television, radio and press media to digital plataforms. These new journalistic models that have driven their audiences from digital social networks may be the beginning of transmedia genres which leads to structuring new standardized concepts that organize and catalog the journalistic essence in digital formats of massive segmentation. In this text, we shall obtain a categorized list of transmedia genres in Ecuador where a first approach to their characteristics is exposed to compare them with traditional journalistic genres; on the other hand, we will begin to identify new contributions in the new multiplatform trends.

Currently, studies in communication and especially journalism are necessary, even a challenge. This is justified by the dynamism of contemporary media ecosystem, which corresponds to the media, emerging technologies and societies, increasingly participant in communication processes. In fact, these transformations have changed not only the processes but also the compositions of the professional groups, which work in the construction of contemporary news, now multi-language and designed to devices previously adopted, such as mobile phones and tablets. Like the data journalism, which considers the phenomenon of big data and information available in the cloud, despite to not stand out so important when disguised between contents. The crescent participation of professionals in the sciences and engineering is explained to work with these files and binary scenarios, leading to think about selection, cleaning, understanding and build public space from digital concepts of multiplatform. In this study, it was adopted some methodological procedures which include bibliographies research, as fundamental research to understand the process of evolution and practice of journalism comprising the fundamental data to develop the proposal initially raised. With the conclusion of this study, we can understand the Transmedia Journalism as perfect language to develop content based in Big Data, Algorithms for a current data journalism. - Abstract
The media are currently experiencing major innovations thanks to technological development and the immediacy of the Internet, which are radically changing how information is created, distributed and consumed. The traditional journalistic formats coexist in the digital age within a number of new formats (newsgames, docugames and webdocs). These new formats have produced a new way in narratives where customers participate more (transmedia storytelling). This work explores the potential offered by docugames through the case study of two relevant samples (MonteLab y Réfugiés), in order to identify what innovations in terms of interactivity and ways of displaying journalistic information are being introduced. The journalistic coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, involved various media platforms and the flow of information between mass media and social media. This phenomenon is not new; therefore, the research question that motivates this article is to what extent transmedia strategies were effectively applied to the Russian official news coverage of the Sochi Olympic Games. The theoretical framework focuses on transmedia journalism, and the method is based on the analytical model regarding transmedia news coverage of planned events developed by Gambarato and Tárcia. The research findings demonstrate that, although transmedial features are incorporated in the Russian coverage, there is modest content expansion and limited engagement with the audience. The analyzed works demonstrate, however, that the emotive components of the stories ignore aspects of transmedia journalism, and that among the students there is a terminological confusion about what a transmedia product is. Technological advances have modified news media practices, introduced alternative formats for conveying information, and are transforming journalistic messages. However, the essential principles governing journalistic practice, those which the ethical codes support and enshrine, remain unaltered. The media outlets and journalists are not unaware of the necessary adaptations to their working lives which this situation demands, but editors and managers find it difficult to accept, and therefore incorporate, those emerging trends which would permit a real improvement in the quality of the products they create and offer to society: firstly, the introduction of ethical standards (ISO standards, ethics seals) into production, and secondly, the channelling of citizens' active participation in the reporting process (transmedia storytelling, social media). These are only being assimilated slowly and ineffectively. The media sector business model has to embrace and integrate both these realities into its organization and production system in order to survive and truly fulfil its public service mission.
