Isolated colon injuries following blunt abdominal trauma have been reported at a rate of 0.1%-0.5%, with isolated sigmoid colon injuries involved in only 34.8% of single colon injuries. Surgical treatment options include recto-colonic anastomosis, resection with or without recto-colonic anastomosis, and colostomy. We report the case of a 39-year-old male patient diagnosed with isolated sigmoid colon rupture after a traffic accident, identified using contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography. The patient underwent emergency surgery, during which the Hartmann procedure was performed. This included excision of the sigmoid colon at both ends of the hiatus, creation of a proximal colostomy, closure of the distal end, and repair of the sigmoid disruption segment. Seven days after surgery, the patient's clinical symptoms were stable, and he was discharged.

Abstract ChatGPT, an advanced Artificial Intelligence tool, is getting considerable attention in higher education. ChatGPT significantly changes the student learning experience through its AI-aided support, personalized study assistance and effective educational experiences, and it has become an object of particular interest in this context. This research aimed to build a technology acceptance and usage model that encapsulates the elements influencing students’ adoption and utilization of ChatGPT, drawing on constructs from the ‘Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology’ and ‘Flow Theory’. The proposed model was found valid and prolific, with the credibility of the results relying on the self-reported surveys of 505 students from three universities in Pakistan. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to analyze data that confirmed the robustness and validity of the proposed model of the study. The study findings supported nine out of the ten proposed hypotheses. Perceived playfulness was declared the paramount predictor of behavioral intention, while perceived values and performance expectancy were the next-level predictors. Additionally, behavioral attention was a high and inspiring determinant of ChatGPT usage behavior, followed by attention focus. This analysis demonstrates a need for a thorough investigation of AI tools like ChatGPT in higher education.

Purpose: Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) represents the persistent absence of sperm in ejaculate without obstruction, stemming from diverse disease processes. This survey explores global practices in NOA diagnosis, comparing them with guidelines and offering expert recommendations. Materials and Methods:Materials and Methods: A 56-item questionnaire survey on NOA diagnosis and management was conducted globally from July to September 2022. This paper focuses on part 1, evaluating NOA diagnosis. Data from 367 participants across 49 coun-tries were analyzed descriptively, with a Delphi process used for expert recommendations. Results:Results: Of 336 eligible responses, most participants were experienced attending physicians (70.93%). To diagnose azoosper-mia definitively, 81.7% requested two semen samples. Commonly ordered hormone tests included serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) (97.0%), total testosterone (92.9%), and luteinizing hormone (86.9%). Genetic testing was requested by 66.6%, with karyotype analysis (86.2%) and Y chromosome microdeletions (88.3%) prevalent. Diagnostic testicular biopsy, distinguishing obstructive azoospermia (OA) from NOA, was not performed by 45.1%, while 34.6% did it selectively. Differ-entiation relied on physical examination (76.1%), serum hormone profiles (69.6%), and semen tests (68.1%). Expectations of finding sperm surgically were higher in men with normal FSH, larger testes, and a history of sperm in ejaculate. Conclusions:Conclusions: This expert survey, encompassing 367 participants from 49 countries, unveils congruence with recommended guidelines in NOA diagnosis. However, noteworthy disparities in practices suggest a need for evidence-based, international consensus guidelines to standardize NOA evaluation, addressing existing gaps in professional recommendations.

Gastrointestinal bleeding due to hemobilia is a rare condition but can be very serious, even life-threatening. The main causes of biliary bleeding are invasive procedures in treatment, trauma, or malignant diseases. Chronic obstruction of the biliary tract can cause inflammation, erosion, and leakage of adjacent vascular structures and lead to pseudoaneurysm or hemorrhage, but this is very rare. In this article, we present a clinical case of upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to a pseudoaneurysm of the hepatic artery believed to have formed due to chronic cholangitis. An 81-year-old female patient with a medical history of chronic cholangitis was admitted to the hospital with recurrent inflammation accompanied by progressive upper gastrointestinal bleeding, potentially life-threatening. Ultrasound images and blood tests confirmed that the patient had anemia and cholangitis caused by stones. Gastrointestinal endoscopy showed bleeding suspected to be from the biliary tract. Hepatobiliary computed tomography confirmed that the common hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm located at the upper end of the common bile duct had active bleeding.

Dual antiplatelet therapy is commonly used to treat or prevent thromboembolic events in patients with deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, atrial fibrillation, in patients after coronary artery stenting, cerebral artery stenting or artificial heart valves, etc. Although they significantly reduce the morbidity and mortality from thromboembolic events, dual antiplatelet therapy is associated with the risk of bleeding, which can be life-threatening. Gastrointestinal bleeding is one of the most common and dangerous events when using dual antiplatelet therapy for a long time. According to studies, nearly half of the major bleeding cases related to dual antiplatelet therapy arise from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. We report the case of a 74-year-old female patient with lower gastrointestinal bleeding after using dual antiplatelet therapy that was successfully treated endovascularly with a coil.

Chylothorax after esophageal surgery is a rare complication but can lead to death in patients due to malnutrition, fluid imbalance, and immunodeficiency. Multiple treatment options exist for postoperative chylothorax, including conservative treatment, octreotide therapy, and interventions such as thoracic duct embolization and surgical ligation of the thoracic duct. We present a case of lymphatic leakage following laparoscopic esophagectomy for esophageal cancer, confirmed by lymphangiography. The patient underwent an intervention to embolize the thoracic duct under computed tomography after an initial failure under digital subtraction angiography (DSA). One week after the intervention, the patient's pleural fluid output gradually decreased, and the patient was discharged from the hospital. At a 7-month follow-up, the patient remained stable with no recurrence of lymphatic leakage.

Abstract The distorted Born iterative (DBI) method is considered to obtain images with high-contrast and resolution. Besides satisfying the Born approximation condition, the frequency-hopping (FH) technique is necessary to gradually update the sound contrast from the first iteration and progress to the actual sound contrast of the imaged object in subsequent iterations. Inspired by the fact that the higher the frequency, the higher the resolution. Because low-frequency allows for low-resolution object imaging, hence for high-resolution imaging requirements, using low-frequency to possess a high-resolution image from the first iteration will be less efficient. For an effective reconstruction, the object’s resolution at low frequencies should be small. And similarly, with high frequencies, the object resolution should be larger. Therefore, in this paper, the FH, and the resolution-turning (RT) technique are proposed to obtain object images with high-contrast and -resolution. The convergence speed in the initial iterations is rapidly achieved by utilizing low frequency in the frequency-turning technique and low image resolution in the resolution-turning technique. It is crucial to ensure accurate object reconstruction for subsequent iterations. The desired spatial resolution is attained by employing high frequency and large image resolution. The resolution-turning distorted Born iterative (RT-DBI) and frequency-hopping distorted Born iterative (FH-DBI) solutions are thoroughly investigated to exploit their best performance. This makes sense because if it is not good to choose the number of iterations for the frequency f 1 in FH-DBI and for the resolution of N 1 × N 1 in RT-DBI, then these solutions give even worse quality than traditional DBI. After that, the RT-FH-DBI integration was investigated in two sub-solutions. We found that the lower frequency f 1 used both before and after the RT would get the best performance. Consequently, compared to the traditional DBI approaches, the normalized error and total runtime for the reconstruction process were dramatically decreased, at 83.6% and 18.6%, respectively. Besides fast and quality imaging, the proposed solution RT-FH-DBI is promised to produce high-contrast and high-resolution object images, aiming at object reconstruction at the biological tissue. The development of 3D imaging and experimental verification will be studied further.

Abstract Background The association between postoperative complications and long‐term survival after laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for gastric cancer (GC) remains uncertain. This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors of postoperative complications and evaluate their impact on survival outcomes in patients undergoing LG. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 621 patients who underwent LG for gastric adenocarcinoma between March 2015 and December 2021. Postoperative complications were classified according to the Clavien–Dindo classification, with major complications defined as Grade III or higher. Logistic regression models with stepwise backward procedure were used to identify risk factors for complications. To assess the impact of postoperative complications on survival, uni‐ and multi‐variable Cox proportional hazard models were used for overall survival (OS) and disease‐free survival (DFS). Results Overall rate of postoperative complications was 17.6% (109 patients); 33 patients (5.3%) had major complications. Independent risk factors for major complications were Charlson comorbidities index (OR [95% CI], 1.87 [1.09–3.12], p‐value = 0.018 for each one score increase), and type of anastomosis (OR [95% CI], 0.28 [0.09–0.91], p‐value = 0.029 when comparing Billroth II with Billroth I). Multivariable analysis identified major complications as an independent prognostic factor to reduce OS (HR [95% CI], 2.32 [1.02–5.30], p‐value = 0.045) and DFS (HR [95% CI], 2.63 [1.37–5.06], p‐value = 0.004). Other prognostic factors for decreased survival outcomes were tumor size, presence of invasive lymph nodes, and T4a stage. Conclusions Major complications rate of LG for GC was approximately 5.3%. Charlson comorbidities index and type of anastomosis were identified as risk factors for major postoperative complications. Major complications were demonstrated to pose adverse impact on survival outcomes.

In this study, rGO/TiO2 hybrid nanostructures (rGO : reduced Graphene Oxide) have been successfully fabricated for the purpose of application in the treatment of volatile organic compound (VOCs) that harmful for the environment through the method of directly measuring the change in concentration of decomposed VOCs in real time under UV-excited conditions using a home-made measuring system. the results showed that hybrids TiO2 : rGONFs (reduced Graphene Oxide nano flake) samples with the weight ratio between two kind of material are 99%:1% and 98%:2% which reduced VOCs faster than 2 time intrinsic TiO2. The phenomenon of 2D materials involved in the hybrids lead to the fact that the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 had been significantly improved, this can be explained as follows: When heterogeneous hybrid was formed, because of the difference in energy levels of conduction band between two materials was negligible, heterojunction barrier is not too high this made the photogenerated electrons from TiO2 easily move through rGONFs under UV stimulation. This thing has significantly reduced the recombination of the generated carrier in TiO2 during irradiation, which lead to an increase in the lifetime of the carrier and make photocatalytic reaction of the assembly become more effective. Background Women dealing with cancer often face a myriad of physical and psychological challenges. Regular physical activity and mobile applications offering healthcare consultation, information, and health tracking have shown promise in aiding this demographic. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of the i-CanManage program in improving physical activity, self-efficacy in symptom management, and the quality of life (QoL) among Vietnamese women after completion of cancer treatment. Methods A two-arm pilot randomized controlled trial will be conducted. Eligible participants will be randomly allocated to intervention and control groups. Members of both groups will be provided with a Cancer Management Handbook containing information on Life After Cancer and Symptom Management. Intervention group participants will be offered a 12-week personalized exercise program called i-CanManage via a Cancer Wellness Program smart application—an artificial intelligence-based mobile app developed for monitoring patients’ symptoms with a Fitbit Charge 5 wearable device. Data will then be collected at weeks 0, 6, and 12 concerning physical activity, symptom severity, self-efficacy, self-care, and QoL. App usability and user experience will also be explored using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Discussion This pilot study will assess the effectiveness of the internet-based cancer management program on physical activity, self-efficacy in symptom management, and QoL of women following cancer treatment in Vietnam, as well as evaluate users’ experience with the smart app. The findings will contribute to the growing evidence on the role of mhealth in oncology care, providing insights into how technology-driven interventions can empower patients in their cancer recovery journey. Datasets collected from this study will be openly available to the research community to foster new advances in the field.

In this work, graphene oxide (GO) was prepared via the Hummers’ method, whereas SrFe12O19, SrFe12O19@Fe3O4, and SrFe12O19@Fe3O4@rGO were fabricated using the hydrothermal techniques. The samples' phase structure, surface morphology, magnetic properties, and electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics were studied and compared. Findings show that the Fe3O4 particles adhered to the surface of the SrFe12O19 hexagonal plates, and the combination of SrFe12O19@Fe3O4 foam flakes and two-dimensional graphene rGO could enhance the absorption electromagnetic wave performance. The composite SrFe12O19@Fe3O4@rGO sample exhibited an ideal impedance matching within the frequency f range of 11 GHz–12.4 GHz. The minimum reflection loss reached −62.3 dB at 12.2 GHz with a thickness of 2 mm. With a thickness of 2 mm, the effective absorption bandwidth obtained the value of −20 dB, covering a range of 9.3 GHz. The composite SrFe12O19@Fe3O4@rGO sample, which shows the highest performance both in reflectivity and bandwidth, can find potential application in microwave absorptions.

High-flow priapism is a rare condition in the form of priapism unrelated to sexual stimulation. The disease causes a decline in quality of life and has the risk of causing long-term erectile dysfunction if not treated promptly. We report a case of a 48-year-old male patient with prolonged high-flow erection after trauma who received endovascular intervention with n-butyl-2 cyanoacrylate biological glue. Results after 40 days of intervention and use of sildenafil 25 mg/day, the patient has an erection and has normal sexual activity. Cavernous arteriovenous fistula causing priapism with high flow is a rare condition. Computed tomography helps supplement information about feeding vessels as well as accompanying injuries for comprehensive assessment before treatment. Currently, there are many treatment methods, but transcatheter arterial embolization is modality of choice for achieve clinical efficacy and can safely and flexibly reduce the risk of secondary erectile dysfunction.

ABSTRACTThis cross-sectional study aimed to assess the knowledge and perceptions of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and factors influencing perceptions among adolescents living in Son La, a mountainous region in Vietnam. A total of 382 adolescents participated in the study, with 59.7% girls and 40.3% boys. Findings revealed that the level of knowledge of SRH among adolescents in Son La is markedly different among girls and boys, where girls exhibited higher knowledge compared to boys in all aspects surveyed. The average SRH perception score was moderate (21.7 ± 8.05; maximum score = 33). Adolescents’ understanding of sexual intercourse, misconceptions related to first-time sexual experiences, and awareness of contraceptive methods were significantly associated with SRH perception scores. These findings underscore the need for targeted health education interventions in mountainous areas, emphasizing the importance of enhancing SRH knowledge and awareness among all adolescents, with gender-specific needs. Such efforts can contribute to improved SRH outcomes among adolescents in these regions.

Objective: Obesity is a complex disease that involves interactions between environmental and genetic factors in its pathogenesis. The aims of this present study were to analyse the overall effects of some nutritional, physical and genetic factors with childhood obesity, and to build predictive models of childhood obesity. Material and Methods: A case-control study was conducted on 559 Hanoi primary school children (278 obese cases and 281 normal controls). Genetic analysis was performed to evaluate genotype on the rs6265 gene BDNF, rs6548238 gene TMEM18, rs6499640 gene FTO, and rs17782313 gene MC4R. Univariate and multivariate regression analysis were conducted to compare the two groups of children, so as to draw conclusions regarding influencing factors and to establish predictive models of obesity for Hanoi primary school children. Results: Factors increasing the risk of obesity found included: urban living areas (odds ratio (OR)=1.5), caesarean section (OR=2.1), high birth weight (OR=1.9-3.1), parental overweight and obesity (OR=2.1-5.1), short night sleeping times (OR=2.6), characteristics of child feeding; including early weaning (OR=2.1), gluttony (OR=19.1), no snacking (OR=2.4), controlled eating (OR=2.4) fat food hobbies (OR=2.7), and CC rs6548238-TMEM18 genotype (OR=1.8). A predictive model of childhood obesity for Hanoi primary school children was built, based on the BMI of parents, gluttonous characteristics, unrestricted eating with ROC=0.871. Conclusion: Childhood obesity develops as a result of interaction between eating habits, lifestyle characteristics of the child and genetic characteristics inherited from over nutritious parents. Encouraging parents to manage both their own weight and their children’s eating habits such as allowing children to consume food without undue restriction and reducing gluttony can serve as effective interventions to diminish the prevalence of childhood obesity within the community.

School management is responsible and accountable for implementing educational policies into practice effectively and efficiently to provide quality education. Simultaneously, school management can grasp the core features of the whole school process and identify the relationship among three variables: quality management practices, school culture, and student performance. The current study aims to explore the school principals' perception about quality management practices and its relationship with school culture and student performance in the public secondary schools of Punjab province, Pakistan. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the study adopted an exploratory sequential mix-methods research design. The researcher conducted a systematic literature review of sixty-three previous studies and interviews with eleven school principals for the qualitative data. Based on results obtained from the qualitative phase, a questionnaire was prepared and dispatched to 150 school principals to get quantitative data. Successively 120 valid responses were received. SEM analysis was performed to get quantitative results. The study's preliminary conclusion demonstrated a positive connection between quality management and student performance in public secondary schools, and quality management was also a significant predictor of school culture. Further, school culture served as a complete mediator between quality management and student performance.

Purpose: The purpose of this meta-analysis is to study the impact of varicocele repair in the largest cohort of infertile males with clinical varicocele by including all available studies, with no language restrictions, comparing intra-person conventional semen parameters before and after the repair of varicoceles. Materials and Methods: The meta-analysis was performed according to PRISMA-P and MOOSE guidelines. A systematic search was performed in Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases. Eligible studies were selected according to the PICOS model (Population: infertile male patients with clinical varicocele; Intervention: varicocele repair; Comparison: intraperson before-after varicocele repair; Outcome: conventional semen parameters; Study type: randomized controlled trials [RCTs], observational and case-control studies). Results: Out of 1,632 screened abstracts, 351 articles (23 RCTs, 292 observational, and 36 case-control studies) were included in the quantitative analysis. Purpose: Sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) is a functional sperm abnormality that can impact reproductive potential, for which four assays have been described in the recently published sixth edition of the WHO laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen. The purpose of this study was to examine the global practices related to the use of SDF assays and investigate the barriers and limitations that clinicians face in incorporating these tests into their practice. Materials and Methods: Clinicians managing male infertility were invited to complete an online survey on practices related to SDF diagnostic and treatment approaches. Their responses related to the technical aspects of SDF testing, current professional society guidelines, and the literature were used to generate expert recommendations via the Delphi method. Finally, challenges related to SDF that the clinicians encounter in their daily practice were captured. Results: The survey was completed by 436 reproductive clinicians. Overall, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase deoxyuridine triphosphate Nick-End Labeling (TUNEL) is the most commonly used assay chosen by 28.6%, followed by the sperm chromatin structure assay (24.1%), and the sperm chromatin dispersion (19.1%). The choice of the assay was largely influenced by availability (70% of respondents). A threshold of 30% was the most selected cut-off value for elevated SDF by 33.7% of clinicians. Of respondents, 53.6% recommend SDF testing after 3 to 5 days of abstinence. Although 75.3% believe SDF testing can provide an explanation for many unknown causes of infertility, the main limiting factors selected by respondents are a lack of professional society guideline recommendations (62.7%) and an absence of globally accepted references for SDF interpretation (50.3%). Conclusions: This study represents the largest global survey on the technical aspects of SDF testing as well as the barriers encountered by clinicians. Unified global recommendations regarding clinician implementation and standard laboratory interpretation of SDF testing are crucial.

Toxoplasmosis caused by Toxoplasma gondii is an important zoonosis that shows severe symptoms in immunocompromised patients. High seroprevalences of toxoplasmosis were found in cats, humans, and pigs in traditional farms in Thua Thien Hue province. The main sources of infections remain unknown, thus making toxoplasmosis neglected and uncontrollable in this region. This study aimed to determine T. gondii contamination in vegetables used for human and livestock consumption and its spatial distribution in Thua Thien Hue rural areas. A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate T. gondii contamination in vegetables grown in households in three different geographic regions. The pathogen DNA was detected from vegetable samples using a primer pair that is highly specific for the 529-bp repetitive element found in T. gondii genome. In this study, 55 out of 221 (24.9%) vegetable samples were positive for T. gondii using PCR. Factors, including location, presence of fence in the garden, owning cats, and treatment of feed for cats, were not significantly associated with T. gondii contamination in vegetables according to the logistic regression. However, vegetables collected in households that have no fence for vegetable gardens, own cats, and feed cats raw or undercooked foods tend to be more heavily contaminated than others. Furthermore, a wide distribution of infected vegetables was observed in all investigated districts, showing a high infection pressure in these residential areas. This is the first report of vegetables contaminated with T. gondii in Vietnam, which reveals an overlooked health risk for humans and animals.

This paper is concerned with the ability of natural products such as vinegar, tea, okra, lemon juice, grapefruit peel essential oil, and baking soda to prevent mold growth on bamboo and wood materials. The results showed that grapefruit peel essential oil had the highest biological activity compared to the other products in preventing mold growth on wood materials. Additionally, a process for preventing mold growth on bamboo and wood materials was developed and the parameters were optimized using the Box-Behnken surface response correlation method. The optimal process conditions were determined by analyzing the response surface of the three-dimensional surface plot and solving the regression model equation using Design Expert software. The optimal conditions, including the ratio of product to coverage area 5/1, concentration 53%, time in 238 minutes and temperature 40𝑜𝐶, have been tested and showed that the time for mold appearance was 254 days.

This study examines the factors influencing Vietnamese journalists’ adoption of Artificial Intelligence in journalism. Drawing on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) framework, it hypothesizes that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, behavioral intention, trust, regulatory support, and technology affinity and incorporating additional trust, regulatory support, and technology affinity have significant impacts on journalists’ adoption of technology. Questionnaires were administered to 238 journalists in the context of the Vietnamese press. The findings showed the significant impact of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, behavioral intention, trust, regulatory support, and technology affinity on journalists’ adoption of AI in journalism. These results expand the UTAUT framework and offer a more comprehensive understanding of technology adoption in journalism. Practically, the study provides valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers in the journalism industry. Understanding the determinants of journalists’ adoption can inform the development of targeted interventions, training programs, and regulatory frameworks to facilitate the integration of AI technologies into journalistic practices. However, the study has limitations, and future research should replicate the findings in diverse cultural and organizational contexts while considering additional moderating factors.

Abstract Background Prediabetes management is a priority for policymakers globally, to avoid/delay type 2 diabetes (T2D) and reduce severe, costly health consequences. Countries moving from low to middle income are most at risk from the T2D “epidemic” and may find implementing preventative measures challenging; yet prevention has largely been evaluated in developed countries. Methods Markov cohort simulations explored costs and benefits of various prediabetes management approaches, expressed as “savings” to the public health care system, for three countries with high prediabetes prevalence and contrasting economic status (Poland, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam). Two scenarios were compared up to 15 y: “inaction” (no prediabetes intervention) and “intervention” with metformin extended release (ER), intensive lifestyle change (ILC), ILC with metformin (ER), or ILC with metformin (ER) “titration.” Results T2D was the highest‐cost health state at all time horizons due to resource use, and inaction produced the highest T2D costs, ranging from 9% to 34% of total health care resource costs. All interventions reduced T2D versus inaction, the most effective being ILC + metformin (ER) “titration” (39% reduction at 5 y). Metformin (ER) was the only strategy that produced net saving across the time horizon; however, relative total health care system costs of other interventions vs inaction declined over time up to 15 y. Viet Nam was most sensitive to cost and parameter changes via a one‐way sensitivity analysis. Conclusions Metformin (ER) and lifestyle interventions for prediabetes offer promise for reducing T2D incidence. Metformin (ER) could reduce T2D patient numbers and health care costs, given concerns regarding adherence in the context of funding/reimbursement challenges for lifestyle interventions.

Purpose: Sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) has been associated with male infertility and poor outcomes of assisted reproductive technology (ART). The purpose of this study was to investigate global practices related to the management of elevated SDF in infertile men, summarize the relevant professional society recommendations, and provide expert recommendations for managing this condition. Materials and Methods: An online global survey on clinical practices related to SDF was disseminated to reproductive clinicians, according to the CHERRIES checklist criteria. Management protocols for various conditions associated with SDF were captured and compared to the relevant recommendations in professional society guidelines and the appropriate available evidence. Expert recommendations and consensus on the management of infertile men with elevated SDF were then formulated and adapted using the Delphi method.Results: A total of 436 experts from 55 different countries submitted responses. As an initial approach, 79.1% of reproductive experts recommend lifestyle modifications for infertile men with elevated SDF, and 76.9% prescribe empiric antioxidants. Regarding antioxidant duration, 39.3% recommend 4–6 months and 38.1% recommend 3 months. For men with unexplained or idiopathic infertility, and couples experiencing recurrent miscarriages associated with elevated SDF, most respondents refer to ART 6 months after failure of conservative and empiric medical management. Infertile men with clinical varicocele, normal conventional semen parameters, and elevated SDF are offered varicocele repair immediately after diagnosis by 31.4%, and after failure of antioxidants and conservative measures by 40.9%. Sperm selection techniques and testicular sperm extraction are also management options for couples undergoing ART. For most questions, heterogenous practices were demonstrated. Conclusions: This paper presents the results of a large global survey on the management of infertile men with elevated SDF and reveals a lack of consensus among clinicians. Furthermore, it demonstrates the scarcity of professional society guidelines in this regard and attempts to highlight the relevant evidence. Expert recommendations are proposed to help guide clinicians.

Purpose: Sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) testing was recently added to the sixth edition of the World Health Organization laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen. Many conditions and risk factors have been associated with elevated SDF; therefore, it is important to identify the population of infertile men who might benefit from this test. The purpose of this study was to investigate global practices related to indications for SDF testing, compare the relevant professional society guideline recommendations, and provide expert recommendations. Materials and Methods: Clinicians managing male infertility were invited to take part in a global online survey on SDF clinical practices. This was conducted following the CHERRIES checklist criteria. The responses were compared to professional society guideline recommendations related to SDF and the appropriate available evidence. Expert recommendations on indications for SDF testing were then formulated, and the Delphi method was used to reach consensus. Results: The survey was completed by 436 experts from 55 countries. Almost 75% of respondents test for SDF in all or some men with unexplained or idiopathic infertility, 39% order it routinely in the work-up of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), and 62.2% investigate SDF in smokers. While 47% of reproductive urologists test SDF to support the decision for varicocele repair surgery when conventional semen parameters are normal, significantly fewer general urologists (23%; p=0.008) do the same. Nearly 70% would assess SDF before assisted reproductive technologies (ART), either always or for certain conditions. Recurrent ART failure is a common indication for SDF testing. Very few society recommendations were found regarding SDF testing. Conclusions: This article presents the largest global survey on the indications for SDF testing in infertile men, and demonstrates diverse practices. Furthermore, it highlights the paucity of professional society guideline recommendations. Expert recommendations are proposed to help guide clinicians.

In this work, geometrically nonlinear static bending analysis of sandwich beams with a porous core and two skins made of functionally graded materials using a mesh-free method is presented. The material types of the core and face sheets of the beam are chosen so that the material continuity between the layers is guaranteed. The nonlinear governing equation including geometric nonlinearity is established via the principle of virtual work. This equation is discretized into a system of algebraic equations by the mesh-free approach, which is based on the C1 point interpolation method and polynomial basis functions, and then solved by the direct iterative method. The convergence of the mesh-free method is tested to determine the sufficient mesh level for the analysis. Comparative and comprehensive studies are performed to investigate both the correctness and the influences of several important parameters and boundary conditions on the linear and nonlinear deflections of the beam.

Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 4 (IRAK4) is a pivotal enzyme in the Toll-like receptor (TLR)/MYD88 dependent signaling pathway, which is highly activated in rheumatoid arthritis tissues and activated B cell-like diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (ABC-DLBCL). Inflammatory responses followed by IRAK4 activation promote B-cell proliferation and aggressiveness of lymphoma. Moreover, proviral integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus 1 (PIM1) functions as an anti-apoptotic kinase in propagation of ABC-DLBCL with ibrutinib resistance. We developed a dual IRAK4/PIM1 inhibitor KIC-0101 that potently suppresses the NF-κB pathway and proinflammatory cytokine induction in vitro and in vivo. In rheumatoid arthritis mouse models, treatment with KIC-0101 significantly ameliorated cartilage damage and inflammation. KIC-0101 inhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB and activation of JAK/STAT pathway in ABC-DLBCLs. In addition, KIC-0101 exhibited an anti-tumor effect on ibrutinib-resistant cells by synergistic dual suppression of TLR/MYD88-mediated NF-κB pathway and PIM1 kinase. Our results suggest that KIC-0101 is a promising drug candidate for autoimmune diseases and ibrutinib-resistant B-cell lymphomas.

We design four novel approximations of the Fisher Information Matrix (FIM) that plays a central role in natural gradient descent methods for neural networks. The newly proposed approximations are aimed at improving Martens and Grosse’s Kronecker-factored block diagonal (KFAC) one. They rely on a direct minimization problem, the solution of which can be computed via the Kronecker product singular value decomposition technique. Experimental results on the three standard deep auto-encoder benchmarks showed that they provide more accurate approximations to the FIM. Furthermore, they outperform KFAC and state-of-the-art first-order methods in terms of optimization speed.

In pharmacokinetics, the clinical information collected from the patient is often much less than the complexity of the patient’s internal operations, hence the undetermined inverse problem has emerged as a challenge to solve it and find multiple possible point sets for considering the many possible implications of drug kinetics in the patient’s body. This paper suggests two enhanced schemes for the early cluster Newton method (CNM) to concomitantly explore a great solutions number for the inverse parameter determination in pharmacokinetics. The first scheme is the application of Tikhonov regularization to deal with the overdetermined system for hyperplane fitting in the CNM, and the second is an effective iterative strategy by tuning perturbation-level for the CNM. As a result of Tikhonov’s filtering operation, lower order singular values than the regularization parameter, that are to blame for the instability of the matrix equation, are efficiently eliminated. With perturbation-level tuning, following every iteration, as the point cluster (PoC) gets near the solution manifold (SoM), it is essential to lessen the level of perturbation in the patient’s clinical measurement data and this is suited for a numerical stabilization. Numerical simulation scenarios of two schemes have revealed that these suggested schemes can lower the iterations number and computed time, and PoC move more steadily towards the solutions manifold.

Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF) is a rare, benign type of ossifying fibroma. JPOFs predominantly present as rapidly growing masses with a high recurrence rate. We report a 40-year-old male patient who suffered from a large tumor with multiple invasions into the paranasal sinuses. Total excision was performed, and significant relief of clinical symptoms was recorded after 4 months of follow-up. Multi-departmental management involving radiologists, neurology surgeons, craniofacial surgeons, pathologists, and otolaryngologists is vital for JPOF treatment. First-line treatment options include total or partial resection, depending on the patient's condition.

Background: Anaemia is a public health concern in developing nations, particularly among women of reproductive age. However, the present prevalence and recent trend in anaemia among this population are unclear. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the prevalence of anaemia among non-pregnant women in Vietnam. Methods: We systematically searched databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and reference lists of earlier prevalence studies from their inception until July 2022. For statistical analysis to check for heterogeneity, random or fixed effects models were employed to summarize the prevalence of anaemia. Visual examination of a funnel plot was used to determine the presence of publication bias, which was then verified using the Egger regression test. Subgroup analyses were also undertaken to evaluate how the proportion of anaemia differs across various study groups. Results: A total of 188 studies were found as a result of the bibliographical search. Finally, of the 12 included studies, anaemia affected 5089 non-pregnant women out of a total of 19744, making the prevalence of this condition 23.2% (95% CI: 16.1-32.2). From 1995 to 2013, the prevalence of anaemia in this population declined significantly, from 42.6% to 16.9%. Notably, the prevalence of anaemia among non-pregnant women differed by geography and increased by mountains, Northern Vietnam, rural areas, and ethnic minority groups. Furthermore, no publication bias was found in this meta-analysis. Conclusion: To enhance the health of women and meet global objectives for eliminating anaemia, more efforts are required in specific regions and ethnic minority groups in Vietnam.

Abstract Background African swine fever (ASF) is a notifiable viral disease of pigs and wild boars that could lead to serious economic losses for the swine industry. Objectives The aim of this study was to identify risk factors in the early phase of ASF outbreaks in Vietnamese swine herds during the first epidemic year. Methods The period of interest for this case–control study was February to July 2019. A questionnaire was administered in northern Vietnam where all early cases of ASF were reported. Producers of herds with reported cases were asked to provide information starting from the day of onset of clinical signs as well as 30 days prior to that day. The period of interest for controls was within the 6 months of the first outbreak in Vietnam (February 2019). Questionnaires included 55 questions; responses were received from 67 cases and 115 controls. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with ASF status. Arranging optical fibers with high content in the light transmitting concrete (LTC) helps to enhance the light transmission ability of this material. To develop thinner LTC panels with higher light transmittance, simultaneous improvement of mechanical strength and fiber content is a crucial issue. In addition, since LTC is a material that helps to reduce the environmental impacts, the use of eco-friendly raw materials in the LTC production should also be considered. This study aims to (i) develop the 80 MPa grade LTC with high content of optical fibers and eco-friendly raw materials, (ii) limit the phenomenon of strength reduction with increasing fiber content as in previous studies, and (iii) clarify the effect of temperature, light source distance and fiber diameter on light transmittance of LTC. A series of experiments is conducted to optimize the concrete mixture composition and clarify the mechanical strength, light transmission of LTC samples. The results show that the mixture composition with high workability can be used to develop the 80 MPa grade LTC with an optical fiber volume content of up to 7.1 %. The Scanning Electron Microscope observation results show no significant gaps around optical fibers in the highest content case. The diameter, content, and orientation of the optical fibers do not significantly affect the compressive and flexural strength of LTC. In addition, the results of scattering characteristics of light passing through optical fibers show that the LTC with small diameter fiber suits for wide area illumination and the one with the larger diameter fiber suits for illuminating high-intensity light in a narrow region.

ABSTRACT: Left ventricular diverticulum is a rare congenital left ventricular outpouchings. The disease is often diagnosed during childhood because it is frequently associated with midline thoracoabdominal defects and other congenital cardiac anomalies. Most cases are asymptomatic, often discovered incidentally. Some complications have been reported including infarction, arrhythmia, heart failure. The most severe complication is rupture of the diverticulum, which can cause a patient's death. Therefore, this congenital defect should be detected early to assess potential risks for appropriate treatment. In this article, we report a case of a 3-month-old boy with left ventricular diverticulum diagnosed with Doppler ultrasound and cardiac MSCT. Complete resection was undertaken. The patient remained asymptomatic with good heart function 2 months after surgery.

This study describes the preparation of berberine (BBR) in nanoformulation to enhance its solubility and increase its antibacterial effectiveness against hospital-acquired infections. BBR nanoparticles (BBR NPs) were formed by antisolvent precipitation (ASP) using glycerol as a safe organic solvent. UV–vis absorption spectra demonstrated that the solubility of BBR NPs was greatly enhanced compared to that of pure BBR. Glycerol played a role as a stabilizer for BBR NPs through the formation of hydrogen bonds between glycerol and BBR NPs. The prepared BBR NPs have a narrow size distribution with an average diameter of 156 nm at a concentration of 2.0 mg/mL, measured by dynamic light scattering. After nanoformulation, the concentration of BBR NPs could reach up to 5.0 mg/mL, which is much higher than the saturation concentration without treatment. Results show a strongly enhanced antibacterial activity of BBR NPs compared with that of pure BBR at the same concentration. The minimum bactericidal concentration of BBR NPs against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli O157:H7 was found to be 2.0 and 5.0 mg/mL, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy showed that BBR NPs surrounded the bacterial cells and severely damaged the cell walls. Therefore, BBR NPs prepared by ASP appear to be a potential candidate for the treatment of bacterial pathogens.

This study aims to investigate female employees’ perception of their work-life balance during remote working under the Covid-19 pandemic. It also explores the techniques that female employees implemented to keep a balance between their work and lives. The study employs a quantitative approach with a survey of 269 female respondents in Ho Chi Minh City. The study focuses on female employees who had experiences of work-from-home during Covid-19. Descriptive analysis is utilized to interpret the data. Prior to that, measurement scales have tested the reliability and validity. Findings show that Vietnamese working women perceived themselves as stressed and difficult to maintain their work-life balance. Cognitive crafting (i.e., prioritizing work) was reportedly the most common practice among women. The study suggests that future research should investigate work-life balance practices in different approaches, and organisations should consider how their employees’ practices adjust their policies to attract and maintain employee retention.

Abstract Rapid industrial growth has severely impacted ecosystems and aggravated economic and health risks to society. Monitoring of ecosystems is fundamental to our understanding of how ecosystem change impacts resources and is critical for developing data‐based sustainability. Thus, the design and development of optimized sensors for ecosystem monitoring have received increasing attention. This review provides a comprehensive overview of systematic sensor design strategies for ecosystem monitoring from the material level to the form factor level. We discuss the fundamental transducing mechanisms of a representative sensor system including optical, electrical, and electrochemical sensors. We then review the sensor interfacing strategy for achieving stable and real‐time monitoring of environmental biochemical factors from air, water, soil, and living organisms. Finally, we provide a summary of the current performance and prospects of this state‐of‐the‐art sensor technology and an outlook on opportunities for possible future research directions in this emerging field.

Thermally induced free vibration of sandwich beams with porous functionally graded material core embedded between two isotropic face sheets is investigated in this paper. The core, in which the porosity phase is evenly or unevenly distributed, has mechanical properties varying continuously along with the thickness according to the power-law distribution. Effects of shear deformation on the vibration behavior are taken into account based on both third-order and quasi-3D beam theories. Three typical temperature distributions, which are uniform, linear, and nonlinear temperature rises, are supposed. A mesh-free approach based on point interpolation technique and polynomial basis is utilized to solve the governing equations of motion. Examples for specific cases are given, and their results are compared with predictions available in the literature to validate the approach. Comprehensive studies are carried out to examine the effects of the beam theories, porosity distributions, porosity volume fraction, temperature rises, temperature change, span-to-height ratio, different boundary conditions, layer thickness ratio, volume fraction index on the vibration characteristics of the beam.

Shear wave ultrasound elastography is a quantitative imaging approach in soft tissues based on viscosity-elastic properties. Complex shear modulus (CSM) estimation is an effective solution to analyze tissues' physical properties for elasticity and viscosity based on the wavenumber and attenuation coefficient. CSM offers a way to detect and classify some types of soft tissues. However, CSM-based elastography inherits some obstacles, such as estimation precision and calculation complexity. This work proposes an approach for two-dimensional CSM estimation and soft tissue classification using the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and Decision Tree (DT) algorithm, named the EKF-DT approach. CSM estimation is obtained by applying EKF to exploit shear wave propagation at each spatial point. Afterward, the classification of tissues is done by a direct and efficient decision tree algorithm categorizing three types of normal, cirrhosis, and fibrosis liver tissues. Numerical simulation scenarios have been employed to illustrate the recovered quality and practicality of the proposed method's liver tissue classification. With the EKF, the estimated wave number and attenuation coefficient are close to the ideal values, especially the estimated wave number. The states of three liver tissue types were automatically classified by applying the DT coupled with two proposed thresholds of elasticity and viscosity: (2.310 kPa, 1.885 Pa.s) and (3.620 kPa 3.146 Pa.s), respectively. The proposed method shows the feasibility of CSM estimation based on the wavenumber and attenuation coefficient by applying the EKF. Moreover, the DT can automate the classification of liver tissue conditions by proposing two thresholds. The proposed EKF-DT method can be developed by 3D image reconstruction and empirical data before applying it in medical practice.

Objectives The study assesses households’ catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) by income group, urban versus rural area, and influencing factors in the Northern midlands and mountainous areas of Vietnam.Design/setting A cross-sectional study with the four waves of data from 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 Vietnam household living standards surveys was used.Participants The number of participants in this study were 1658, 1661, 1659 and 1662 households in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020, respectively. We included households residing in the Northern midlands and mountain areas of Vietnam.Outcomes measure We examined out-of-pocket health payments and capacity to pay by income groups and place of residence, the incidence of CHE and impoverishment. A logistic regression model was used to examine the influence of demographic and socioeconomic characteristics on CHE.Results The findings showed a remarkable decrease in CHE between 2014 and 2016, followed by a considerable increase between 2016 and 2018. The CHE rates in the region were between 3.5% and 5%, with the highest value observed in 2014. In addition, the differences in household CHE rates according to income and place of residence were observed. The results also indicated that medical impoverishment ranged between 3.4% and 3.9%. Overall, factors such as the burden of disease, rural settlements, increasing use of healthcare services, visiting private health facilities and having an old-aged person in the household were significantly and positively associated with CHE. By contrast, households that were wealthier, participated in health insurance, had a household head employed and female-headed households, were negatively associated with CHE.Conclusions The findings provide useful information that can guide policy-makers to design policies, and interventions necessary to reduce CHE in the region, narrow the gap between the rich and the poor, the rural and urban settlements, and ensure universal health coverage.

Human activities, such as groundwater extraction and sediment starvation, are projected to add to climatic factors like sea level rise to exacerbate saline water intrusion into the Mekong Delta, Vietnam over the next 30 years, according to process-based model simulations.

The results of testing the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center’s (CIMMYT’s) hybrid combinations, developed from hybrid 790 F2:3 lines and 10 parental lines, using two testers (CML451 and CLO2450) under optimal and managed drought conditions in Ninh Thuan, Vietnam, show that the average grain yield of the biparental (BP) groups of heterosis groups A and B is, respectively, 2.58-3.65 tons/ha and 2.56-2.76 tons/ha in drought conditions, and 4.24-5.02 tons/ha and 5.41-5.93 tons/ha in wellwatered conditions, respectively. By genotyping eight BP populations with 39,846 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, CIMMYT experts identified 15 important gene regions that regulate grain yield associated with 15 SNP markers on chromosomes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 which is useful for applying molecular markers in breeding drought-tolerant maize. On that basis, the Maize Research Institute of Vietnam studied and genotyped three populations, including 450 F2 families, with 96 SNPs using the Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR (KASP) genotyping method. The result was that 57 SNP markers related to drought tolerance were found useful to these populations. In addition, 27 F 2 families demonstrating drought tolerance and high grain yield were selected as primary materials for breeding maize hybrids tolerant to stresses and adaptive to climate change.

Despite the discovery of several closely related viruses in bats, the direct evolutionary progenitor of SARS-CoV-2 has not yet been identified. In this study, we investigated potential animal sources of SARS-related coronaviruses using archived specimens from Sunda pangolins (Manis javanica) and Chinese pangolins (Manis pentadactyla) confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade, and from common palm civets (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) raised on wildlife farms in Viet Nam. A total of 696 pangolin and civet specimens were screened for the presence of viral RNA from five zoonotic viral families and from Sarbecoviruses using primers specifically designed for pangolin coronaviruses. We also performed a curated data collection of media reports of wildlife confiscation events involving pangolins in Viet Nam between January 2016 and December 2020, to illustrate the global pangolin supply chain in the context of Viet Nam where the trade confiscated pangolins were sampled for this study. All specimens from pangolins and civets sampled along the wildlife supply chains between February 2017 and July 2018, in Viet Nam and tested with conventional PCR assays designed to detect flavivirus, paramyxovirus, filovirus, coronavirus, and orthomyxovirus RNA were negative. Civet samples were also negative for Sarbecoviruses, but 12 specimens from seven live pangolins confiscated in Hung Yen province, northern Viet Nam, in 2018 were positive for Sarbecoviruses. Our phylogenetic trees based on two fragments of the RdRp gene revealed that the Sarbecoviruses identified in these pangolins were closely related to pangolin coronaviruses detected in pangolins confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade in Yunnan and Guangxi provinces, China. Our curated data collection of media reports of wildlife confiscation events involving pangolins in Viet Nam between January 2016 and December 2020, reflected what is known about pangolin trafficking globally. Pangolins confiscated in Viet Nam were largely in transit, moving toward downstream consumers in China. Confiscations included pangolin scales sourced originally from Africa (and African species of pangolins), or pangolin carcasses and live pangolins native to Southeast Asia (predominately the Sunda pangolin) sourced from neighboring range countries and moving through Viet Nam toward provinces bordering China.

Background: Second-hand smoking (SHS) is associated with many health problems. However, its prevalence in the community population aged 15 years and older in Vietnam is unknown. Objectives: To quantify the prevalence of SHS in Vietnamese communities aged 15 and above. Methods: This is a meta-analysis that reviewed studies of the prevalence of SHS in Vietnam published in MEDLINE, Scopus, Pubmed and the WHO library database between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2019. MedCalc was used to perform all the analyses, and publication bias was determined using funnel plots and Egger regression asymmetry tests. Q-test and I 2 statistic were used to identify heterogeneity across studies. Results: There were 7 articles that met our inclusion criteria 2 surveys at the national level, 3 Cross-sectional studies and 2 Case-control studies) involving 184 921 participants. According to the meta-analysis, the overall random-effects pooled prevalence of SHS was 54.6% (95% CIs: 44.900-64.154) with a high level of heterogeneity ( P = .0001, Q = 2245.60, I 2 = 99.73%). It is noteworthy that the pooled prevalence of SHS rose throughout the course of the survey years. Our research found no evidence of publication bias. Conclusions: Vietnam has ratified the implementation the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in 2004, there are still a large number of people who are adversely impacted by SHS. Given the tremendous cost that SHS imposes on health systems, our results underscore the critical need for the Vietnamese government to expedite an implementation of a set of stronger tobacco control practices, thus reducing the incidence of smoking-related illnesses and fatalities.
