Teacher professional development (TPD) is an important component of enhancing student learning and school education quality. Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training is reforming education, including curricula, teaching methods, and textbooks. Many requirements have to been done to effectively implement the reform, and TPD is considered a significant contribution. Using data from an in-depth interview with the principal, teacher questionnaires, and school policy-related documents, this qualitative case-study research in a selected high school for gifted students in Central Vietnam aimed to find out how TPD had been implemented in response to education reforms in Vietnamese high schools. TPD was widely perceived and respected by the principal and teachers in this case study, and these positive perspectives were transferred into practice with numerous effectively employed TPD strategies at this high school for students' enhanced learning and achievements.

Teacher professional development (TPD) plays a significant role in better school improvement and student achievements. Research on TPD shows that favorable workplace conditions greatly enhance teachers' teaching knowledge and practice. This research was conducted to find out what workplace conditions principals had created to promote TPD in four schools in a province in Vietnam. The study utilizes multiple-site case study design relating to principal leadership and TPD in those schools. The four key workplace conditions were identified in this study including collaboration, teacher empowerment, supervision and evaluation, and teachers' motivational strategies. Based on the findings, the study offers implications for both research and practice on principal leadership for TPD within and beyond the Vietnamese context.

A fast and green method is developed for regioselective acylation of indoles in the 3-position without the need for protection of the NH position. The method is based on Friedel-Crafts acylation using acid anhydrides. The method has been optimized, and Y(OTf)₃ in catalytic amounts is found to be the best catalyst together with the commercially available ionic liquid [BMI]BF₄ (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoro-borate) as solvent. The reaction is completed in a very short time using monomode microwave irradiation. The catalyst can be reused up to four times without significant loss of activity. A range of substituted indoles are investigated as substrates, and thirteen new compounds have been synthesized.
