The project progress reports will be prepared in collaboration with WP leaders and submitted to the EC.

Practice Abstracts will be produced at several time points focussing on case studies of best practice (with regional translations), summarising the key messages and practical advice in language adapted to target groups using the EIP-AGRI common format.

The purpose of Deliverable D1.3 Annual activity plan and progress report is to summarise the principal project activities that will take place between October 2021 and October 2022 to promote successful planning, widespread awareness, scrutiny, and task alignment. Specifically, to abridge the collective headline tasks, their delivery teams and the conveyancing times and timings anticipated to meet the project Milestones & Deliverables, over the 12-month period. Thereby underwriting the overall objectives, impact and innovations envisaged for the project in the period.

This report should be assimilated in parallel with the ‘Activity Plan – Year IV’ for the final year of the TRUE project, and it should also be noted that this report supersedes some of the information given in Deliverable 9.9 (Project Review, Impact and Legacy Plan – Report I) due to changes in the delivery plan, and delays associated with the impacts of COVID-19. Also, as the TRUE project draws to completion on Sept. 30th 2021, and effort progresses into a phase which is not specifically funded, it is important that effort is focused upon those key activities which has the potential to establish improved legume-based futures for all those who will become involved.

Annually, data and key outputs/deliverables are gathered by WP1 and synthesised into practical briefing media such as notes for stakeholders, to inform members of the public of new insight and products via press releases, including trade press. These will be circulated in a range of languages of the Regional Clusters and will also be aimed to policymakers at regional, national and EU level.

Throughout the lifetime of the TRUE project, risk management has been a continuous process. Risk assessment was updated throughout the project as unexpected sources of risk were identified. Mitigation measures were defined to decrease the probability and impact of risks. This document outlines how risks were managed, identified, analysed, monitored, and controlled during the project using the risk register.

Through mainly the joint Regional Clusters (now termed, Legume innovation Networks, or ‘LINs’), and their interaction, though also knowledge exchange more broadly, key stakeholders emerged over the duration of the project to establish the founding membership of ‘Pulse Europe’ (now termed a legacy “LIN”). The founding members will be expected to identify a structure, constitution and long-term strategy which will be capable of advancing innovations to promote the efficacy of legumes (not just pulses), beyond the term of TRUE.

The document presents the collection of practical guidelines and technical manuals on principles, tools and technologies to improve WUE and NUE.

The common bean (Phaseolous vulgarisL.) is a grain legume functionally characterized by its capacity for symbiotic of biological nitrogen fixation. As such, it does not demand the application of synthetic nitrogenous fertilizer and can offer environmental benefits as part of holistic cropping systems. While common bean commodities are highly nutritious, commercial cultivation of this crop is declining in already-industrialized countries. However, recent interest of consumers towards diets that benefit environmental and personal health has rekindled commercial interest in legumes, including the common bean. The aim of this protocol is to identify agronomic practices that are capable of increasing the yield and quality of the common bean for use as food. To address this research question, published literature will be screened for inclusion on the basis of defined eligibility criteria to ensure data sources are selected in an objective and consistent manner. Consistency checks will be carried out for the title, abstract and full texts of the literature collated. The output is expected to be a summary of the knowledge available to maximize the productivity and quality of the common bean as food. This anticipated synthesis will be of utility for a wide range of value-chain stakeholders from farmers and consumers, to research scientists and policy makers.

This plan formalises specific operations (meetings and agendas), at Work Package (WP) and sub-WP level for the following 12 months. The output will be formalised via the private workspace, and associated project management software. The plan will identify and facilitate the necessary Coordination to help ensure the timely delivery and success of linked project activities and meetings or workshops. This plan will also help inform the framework of the Data Management Plan.&nbsp

Impact Plan: this Deliverable report (D9.8, D56) is directed by feedback from TRUE’s Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB, the commercial partners), and also from other multi-actors engaged via the ISAB (Intercontinental Science Advisory Board), and including operatives of the European Legume Innovation Network (or ‘E-LIN’) workshops, existing relevant H2020 research projects, and successful RUR (rural renaissance) projects. This direction will help ensure research complementarity, synergy and science excellence. The aim of this report is to define the best routes to impact. &nbsp

This Deliverable describes the Project Legacy Plan (version I) of the TRUE-Project. It formally details how the various products developed from TRUE-Project activities will be manged and coordinated to ensure project impact legacy beyond the funded project term. To improve this aim the bulk of this document present a highly detailed series of vignettes that capture a wide range of perspectives from the exercise of, 'considering legumes in context'. Going forward, the TRUE-Project’s implementation plans will be developed based on these insights. Also, delivered collectively, they are expected to encourage transition from current conventional food- and feed-networks, to those which are legume-based and more sustainable.

This Deliverable presents the result from the application of a policy Delphi and highlights how experts assess the potential of governance contexts that may favour therealisation of legume-supportedvalue chains.

Background: There is an urgent need to ensure that food production is maintained in response to either a reductionin use or lack of availability of natural resources. To this end, several strategies have been investigated to determinewhich agronomic approaches may improve crop yields under conditions of reduced water and/or nutrients provision,with special attention upon nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). New technologies and practices have been developedfor key commercial crops, such as tomatoes. However, few of these are widely adopted in the field and evidence oftheir value in this production setting is limited. Methods: This protocol sets out a systematic map methodology that aims to provide a coherent synthesis of theavailable evidence among the literature on the techniques and management approaches that may ensure theproductivity of field-grown tomatoes under conditions of water-, N- and/or P-deficits, either as single or combinedstresses. To conduct the literature search, a search strategy was produced to define the scope of the systematic mapand to allow reproducibility of the approach. A list of published and unpublished sources of literature were selectedand a preliminary trial identified best-fit-for-purpose search-terms and -strings. A literature screening process was setwith consistency checks amongst reviewers at the title, abstract and full text screening stages. A series of eligibilitycriteria were defined to ensure objectivity and consistency in the selection of studies that are best suited to addressthe research question of the systematic map. In addition, a coding strategy was designed to set the means for metadataextraction outfromtheliteratureforreview. Adraftedstructuredquestionnaire willserve as the basefor collating themeta-data to produce a databasewherevariables will bequeriedfor theevidencesynthesis.This work is expected to inform stakeholders, researchers and policy makers regarding the extent and nature of the existing evidence base, and so serve as a basis by-which specific approaches may be highlighted as potential focal-areas in future.

Additional file 2. List of publications in the â test-listâ library. List of 47 published articles and other key literature relevant to the research question. Built by specialistâ s recommendations and reviews citations, this list was used to test the candidate search terms adequacy during the scoping study for search terms and strings.

This work was funded by the University of St Andrews and Society for Applied Microbiology New Lecturer Research Grant awarded to CSA, Wellcome Trust grant (093228) awarded to TKS. HIV-1 maturation inhibitors are a novel class of antiretroviral compounds, which consist of two structurally distinct chemical classes; betulinic acid derivatives and the pyridone-based compound PF-46396. It is currently believed that both classes act by a similar mode of action to generate aberrant non-infectious particles via inhibition of CA-SP1 cleavage during Gag proteolytic processing. In this study we utilized a series of novel analogues, with decreasing similarity to PF-46396, to determine the chemical groups within PF-46396 that contribute to antiviral activity, Gag binding and the relationship between these essential properties. A spectrum of antiviral activity (active, intermediate, inactive) was observed across the analogue series with respect to CA-SP1 cleavage and HIV-1 (NL4-3) replication kinetics in Jurkat T cells. We demonstrate that selected inactive analogues are incorporated into WT immature particles and that one inactive analogue is capable of interfering with PF-46396 inhibition of CA-SP1 cleavage. Mutations that confer PF-46396 resistance can impose a defective phenotype on HIV-1 that can be rescued in a compound-dependent manner. Some inactive analogues retained the capacity to rescue PF-46396-dependent mutants (SP1-A3V, SP1-A3T, CA-P157S), implying that they can also interact with mutant Gag. The structure-activity relationships observed in this study demonstrate that (i) the tert-butyl group is essential for antiviral activity, but not an absolute requirement for Gag binding, (ii) the trifluromethyl group is optimal but not essential for antiviral activity and (iii) the 2-aminoindan group is important for antiviral activity and Gag binding but not essential as its replacement is tolerated.
