- Abstract
18 x 4.5'' ; serpentine stone; Mr. Manuhwa is one of the first generation of Shona stone sculpturers to benefit from the workshop school at the Zimbabwe National Gallery and Vukutu. Vukutu was a rural community established in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe where the workshop school moved and continued to be influenced by the powerful environment around them. This bird sculpture was used by Mr. Manuhwa during a visit to Champaign-Urbana in November 2003. He used it to illustrate how he worked. For photos of him demonstrating for school classrooms, see B 1003.
