Abstract

The article presents the author's views regarding the decisions of the case Tower Boot Co. Ltd. v Jones and Waters v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis which tackles the practical effectiveness of sexual and racial harassment law in Great Britain. It examines the sex equality law of the European Community wherein it establishes correct disparity. Moreover, the protection of part-time employees based on the law proscribing indirect sex discrimination is also discussed.

It discusses the case between the University of Natal and a highly gifted Indian girl who had been refused a place at the University's medical school. Likewise, it discusses the case of a man and a woman who were equally qualified for the post in the public service with the preference given to the female candidate in accordance to the Bremen law which was contrary to the Basic Law of Germany.
