El present article se centra en tres experiències internacionals de desenvolupament territorial vinculat directament amb el patrimoni i el paisatge. En particular, aborda les Senderes d'Andalusia, Espanya, la posada en valor del patrimoni ferroviari a Itàlia i el Corredor BioComechingones a l'Argentina. Cadascuna d'aquestes experiències presenta grans diferències amb respecte l'una a l'altra pel que fa a la temàtica que desenvolupen, contextos on s'insereixen i la seva extensió tant temporal com espacial, per esmentar algunes entre moltes. No obstant això, en el seu conjunt bé representen exemples de rutes culturals. I és justament aquesta paradoxa de ser diferents i al mateix també ser iguals el que desperta l'interès que justifica aquest treball. En aquest sentit, l'objectiu és identificar punts en comú en les accions, estratègies i polítiques executades per cadascuna d'aquestes experiències, que permetin conformar com a conclusió un manual de bones pràctiques possibles de ser aplicades o escalades en altres contextos. Per tal motiu, en aquest treball de tipus descriptiu, s'aplica un enfocament metodològic qualitatiu que consent en la caracterització i comparació dels tres casos d'estudi. Així mateix, s'identifiquen a priori tres eixos estructurants compartits entre les tres propostes que emmarquen conceptualment el treball: desenvolupament territorial, turisme i paisatge. Sent aquest últim el principal, enfocat des de les aproximacions culturals al paisatge que plantegen que el paisatge és una construcció social. This article focuses on three international experiences of territorial development directly linked to heritage and landscape. In particular, it addresses the Senderos de Andalucía, Spain, the enhancement of railway heritage in Italy and the BioComechingones Corridor in Argentina. Each of these experiences presents great differences from each other as regards the theme they develop, the contexts in which they are inserted and their extension both in time and in space, just to name a few among many. However, as a whole they well represent examples of cultural routes. And it is precisely this paradox of being different and also being the same that arouses the interest that justifies this work. In this sense, the aim is to identify common points in the actions, strategies, and policies carried out by each of these experiences, beyond the obvious ones, which allow the conclusion of a manual of good practices, applicable or scalable to other contexts. For this reason, in this descriptive work, a qualitative methodological approach is applied based on the characterization and comparison of the three study cases. Likewise, three shared structuring axes are identified a priori among the three proposals that conceptually frame the work: territorial development, tourism, and landscape. The latter being the main one and focused on the cultural approaches to Landscapes that state that the landscape is a social construction. El presente artículo se centra en tres experiencias internacionales de desarrollo territorial vinculado directamente con el patrimonio y el paisaje. En particular, aborda los Senderos de Andalucía, España, la puesta en valor del patrimonio ferroviario en Italia y el Corredor BioComechingones en Argentina. Cada una de estas experiencias presenta grandes diferencias con respecto la una a la otra en lo que se refiere a la temática que desarrollan, contextos donde se insertan y su extensión tanto temporal como espacial, por mencionar algunas entre muchas. Sin embargo, en su conjunto bien representan ejemplos de rutas culturales. Y es justamente esta paradoja de ser diferentes y al mismo también ser iguales lo que despierta el interés que justifica este trabajo. En este sentido, el objetivo es identificar puntos en común en las acciones, estrategias y políticas ejecutadas por cada una de estas experiencias, que permitan conformar como conclusión un manual de buenas prácticas posibles de ser aplicadas o escaladas en otros contextos. Por tal motivo, en este trabajo de tipo descriptivo, se aplica un enfoque metodológico cualitativo que consiente en la caracterización y comparación de los tres casos de estudio. Asimismo, se identifican a priori tres ejes estructurantes compartidos entre las tres propuestas que enmarcan conceptualmente el trabajo: desarrollo territorial, turismo y paisaje. Siendo este último el principal, enfocado desde las aproximaciones culturales al paisaje que plantean que el paisaje es una construcción social. El presente trabajo ha sido desarrollado en el marco de los siguientes proyectos, que contribuyen a la financiación de los costes de edición y revisión de estilo: El proyecto “Sistema de Innovación para el Patrimonio de la Andalucía Rural (SIN_PAR)”, concedido mediante la convocatoria 2020 para proyectos de I+D+i del PAIDI 2020, con código PY20-00298, y el proyecto “Sistema de Innovación Turística para el Patrimonio de la Andalucía Rural (SIT_PAR)”, concedido mediante la convocatoria 2020 de ayudas para la realización de proyectos de interés colaborativo en el ámbito de los CEIS, con código PYC20 RE 029 IAPH. Ambas subvenciones proceden de la Secretaría General de Universidades, Investigación y Tecnología de la Consejería de Transformación Económica, Industria, Conocimiento y Universidades de la Junta de Andalucía y han sido cofinanciadas por el programa operativo FEDER en Andalucía para el periodo 2014-2020.

Aquest treball de fi de grau te com a objectiu el disseny de de una Ville de Vacance a una localització de Catalunya. Primer de tot s’han definit els punts clau de tot projecte que son objecte, justificació, abast i requeriments. Després s’ha estudiat l’estat de l’art en el mon del turisme familiar ja que la ville dissenyada te la mirada posada en el turisme familiar i sostenible. A partir d’aquí s’ha realitzat la cerca de una localització idònia i s’ha estudiat la distribució mes adequada per els diferents edificis de la ville de manera que es pugin satisfer totes les necessitats junt amb el personal necessari per a que funcioni la ville. Finalment s’ha realitzat un estudi de viabilitat econòmica amb diferents indicadors.

En este artículo se aborda el debate sobre la ordenación del litoral español. Los problemas y soluciones que se plantean en la ordenación de la costa ante la degradación producida por la ocupación urbana, industrial y turística de la misma. Para llevarlo a cabo se toma como referencia el debate que se ha producido entorno a este tema desde la ingeniería y el urbanismo en los últimos treinta años. Las Directrices de Ordenación del Litoral Canario se ponen como ejemplo de cómo se puede dar respuesta al problema de la ordenación del litoral desde el urbanismo y el medioambiente. El artículo se cierra con una re exión sobre la necesidad de implicar a la sociedad en el debate sobre la ordenación de la costa para preservar sus valores. This article touches on the debate about the organization of the Spanish coast, the problems and solutions that arise in its management, responding to the degradation caused by urban, industrial and touristic occupancy. To discuss this, the debate that has occurred around this issue from the engineering and urban planning policies of the last thirty years has been analysed. e Canary Coastline Planning Guidelines are an example of how one can give an answer to the problem of coastal management from the planning and environmental perspective. e article closes with a re ection of the need to involve society in the debate about coastal management in order to preserve its values.

The present article focuses on the relationship between landscape, land use management and tourism. It begins by discussing three widely-accepted theoretical premises and frames the discussion in the context of a specific case study: the island of Tenerife’s land use management plan (PIOT) Este artículo pretende centrar su reflexión en la relación entre paisaje, ordenación del territorio y producto turístico. Para hacerlo discutiremos de entrada tres premisas teóricas comúnmente aceptadas e intentaremos ejemplificar dicha discusión con la explicación de un caso de estudio concreto, el Plan Insular de Ordenación del Territorio de Tenerife, PIOT en adelante.

La singularidad del territorio termal con ere a las estaciones termales unas cualidades especiales y las convierte en enclaves atractivos a lo largo de la historia. Algunos balnearios europeos fueron grandes atractores turísticos durante el siglo XIX. En consecuencia, importantes desarrollos arquitectónicos y urbanísticos se llevaron a cabo en ellos. Determinadas piezas especí cas de estas ciudades balneario, a menudo ubicadas en el límite entre la ciudad y el territorio, fueron claves para dichos desarrollos y dan las pautas para entender la estructura urbana de aquellas ciudades y la relación con su territorio y paisaje. The uniqueness of the thermal territory gives to the thermal towns special qualities and turns them into attractive enclaves throughout history. Some European spa towns were strong tourism attractors during the 19th century. Accordingly, great architectural and urban developments were implemented on them. Some pieces of these spa towns, often located at the boundary between the city and the territory, are key to these developments and give guidelines for understanding the urban structure of these cities and the relationship with its territory and landscape.

Il campeggio è una tipologia ricettiva all’aria aperta che risponde all’esigenza di un rapporto di simbiosi tra il turista e la natura. Nasce come pratica spontanea priva di impatto sul paesaggio ma, con l’avvento del turismo di massa, si struttura in maniera più invasiva no a colonizzare grandi aree in maniera intensiva e irreversibile. L’articolo ricostruisce le tappe evolutive del campeggio come infrastruttura turistica dalla sua nascita (inizi XX secolo) ad oggi. Camping is an open air type of accommodation that satisfies the requirement of a symbiotic relationship between the tourist and nature. Born as a spontaneous practice without impact on the landscape, it becomes more invasive with the advent of mass tourism, colonizing large areas in an intensive and irreversible way. Cual amantes ora ciegos, ora despechados, turismo y paisaje han mantenido a través del urbanismo una intensa y tantas veces conflictiva relación durante las últimas décadas, desde la ignorancia mutua o la satanización maniquea, hasta reconocerse estrechamente interdependientes. Esta evolución ambivalente se refleja en buena medida en los estudios llevados a cabo por parte de los investigadores de nuestro Departamento de Urbanismo y Ordenación del Territorio (DUOT), tanto a través del ejercicio profesional, como desde la reflexión académica. En numerosos planes, proyectos, artículos y tesis doctorales realizados por profesores del DUOT, se pueden llegar a distinguir cuatro periodos bien diferenciados. Su repaso nos permite destacar avances en el conocimiento disciplinar, pero asimismo importantes retos pendientes. No se trata, obviamente, de etapas estancas, sino que las temáticas abordadas, y, fundamentalmente, la relación que se establece en cada una de ellas entre turismo, paisaje y urbanismo, dejan poco a poco de ser predominantes y otras se les van superponiendo, al inicio, y reemplazándolas después, a la manera de los paradigmas de Kuhn. En este texto intentaré mostrar, siquiera que esquemáticamente, las características básicas de cada uno de estos periodos. Com amants ara cecs, ara despitats, turisme i paisatge han mantingut a través de l’urbanisme una intensa i tants cops conflictiva relació durant les darreres dècades, des de la ignorància mútua o la demonització maniquea, fins reconèixer-se estretament interdependents. Aquesta evolució ambivalent es reflecteix en bona mesura en els estudis duts a terme per part dels investigadors del nostre Departament d’Urbanisme i Ordenació del Territori (CUOT), tant a través de l’exercici professional, com des de la reflexió acadèmica. En nombrosos plans, projectes, articles i tesis doctorals realitzats per professors del DUOT, es poden arribar a distingir quatre períodes ben diferenciats. El seu repàs ens permet destacar avanços en el coneixement disciplinar, però així mateix importants reptes pendents. No es tracta, òbviament, d’etapes estanques, sinó que les temàtiques abordades, i, fonamentalment, la relació que s’hi estableix en cada una d’elles entre turisme, paisatge i urbanisme, deixen poc a poc de ser predominants i altres se’ls hi van superposant, a l’inici, i reemplaçant-les després, a la manera dels paradigmes de Kuhn. En aquest text intentaré mostrar, ni que sigui esquemàticament, les característiques bàsiques de cadascun d’aquests períodes. Tourism, landscape and urbanism have maintained a close and sometimes contentious relationship over the past decades. This is clearly reflected in diverse studies by researchers in our Department of Urban and Regional Planning, both on the professional practice as from the academic reflection. Through the analysis of many plans, projects, articles and doctoral dissertations, we may distinguish four distinct periods. They allow us to highlight advances in the discipline, but also significant challenges. The first one is characterized by a mismatch between tourism and landscape, derived from the necessary restructuring of an excessive offer. This is followed by a second moment when professionals recognize that the main reason for tourism is landscape, and a third one when they relate tourism and cultural landscapes. Finally, the most recent period is characterized by the consolidation of a research line that faces four fundamental challenges.

La previsión es un campo de estudio relativamente nuevo que nació inicialmente para hacer previsiones de futuro en la ciencia y la tecnología, pero en el presente se usa cada vez más en asuntos territoriales. A pesar de que el uso de herramientas de previsión en el ámbito turístico ha sido limitado, hay una creciente necesidad de gestionar la incertidumbre que rodea el desarrollo turístico. Basándose en estas premisas, este artículo pretende probar la capacidad de las herramientas de previsión para anticipar los impactos de los complejos retos globales en el campo del turismo. Esta suposición es testada a través de un ejercicio de visión de futuro que explora la evolución de los segmentos de la demanda turística y sus implicaciones en el planeamiento de destinaciones turísticas. Dos grandes segmentos de demanda fueron visualizados para el horizonte 2020: “Demanda de nicho e innovación” y “Demanda masiva predecible”. Para ambos segmentos, se muestra el valor de la cadena de consumo turístico y se recomiendan guías de diseño espacial para destinos de sol y playa., Foresight is a relatively new field of study which initially arose to make provisions for the future in science and technology, but nowadays it is increasingly being used in territorial issues. Although the use of foresight tools in the tourism realm has been limited, there is a growing need to manage the increasing uncertainty that surrounds tourism development. Based on these premises, this paper tries to prove the capability of foresight tools to anticipate the impacts of complex global challenges on the tourism field. This assumption is tested through a future vision exercise which explores the evolution of tourism demand segments and its implications in planning tourism destinations. Two major demand segments are visualised for the year 2020 horizon: “Niche and Innovative Demand” and “Massive and Predictable Demand”. For both segments, the tourism consumption chain value is displayed and spatial design guidelines are recommended for sun and beach destinations.

En este artículo se establece cuáles son los posibles temas de investigación de la arquitectura del turismo. Para ello se elabora un mapa con cuatro áreas de estudio: los paisajes, las arquitecturas, los valores culturales y simbólicos y los procesos y estrategias. Con ello se pretende orientar a los investigadores que quieran estudiar el papel y la responsabilidad de la arquitectura en la con guración del espacio turístico. This article discusses possible research topics of tourism architecture. Therefore it draws a map with four study areas: landscape, architecture, cultural and symbolic values and processes and strategies. Through it we intend to guide researchers willing to study the architecture role and responsibility in shaping the tourist space.

Esta investigaciónpropone evaluar las estrategias que articulan, en contextos turísticos patrimoniales, los paradigmas teóricos y la práctica de procesos de desarrollo territorial.El análisis, desde la perspectiva territorial, permite encontrar fundamentos yaciertos que canalizaron el potencial del patrimonio hacia un producto turístico motor del desarrollo territorial. Para ello, se analizan casos relevantes de Europa y Latinoamérica y se reflexiona sobre intervenciones que aportan a la práctica de procesos de revitalización socioeconómica y recuperación de identidad del territorio. Del estudio de casos se observa que, la contribución del turismo patrimonial a la praxis del desarrollo territorial no está condicionada por la escala ni el contexto en que se insertan las experiencias turísticas patrimoniales, sino por la intervención en los niveles macro/micro, la participación activa de los distintos actores involucrados y el aporte académico en la organización del proceso. This research proposes to evaluate strategies that articulate, in heritage tourism contexts, theoretical paradigms and the practice of territorial development processes. The analysis, from a territorial perspective, allows to find foundations and successes that channeled the potential of heritage to a motor tourist product of territorial development. To do so, relevant cases from Europe and Latin America are analyzed and it reflects on interventions that contribute to the practice of socio-economic revitalization and recovery of identity of the territory. The study of cases shown that the contribution of heritage tourism to the praxis of territorial development is not conditioned by the scale or the context in which are inserted the heritage tourism experiences, but by intervention at the macro/micro levels, the active participation of the different actors involved and the academic contribution in the Organization of the process.

Despojado de prejuicios se enfrenta a uno de los fenómenos específicos de su época, que será el boom del turismo de masas. A lo largo de su obra, Bonet se enfrentará a territorios vírgenes. Desde la colonización de Punta Ballena en Uruguay en 1945, pasando por el proyecto de ciudad-balneario de Necochea-Quequén en 1952 en Argentina, el proyecto de urbanización de la Manga del Mar Menor en 1961 en Murcia, Andalucía La Nueva en 1962 en Marbella y AiguaGelida en 1965 en Girona. This paper makes a conceptual approach to the smallest and amphibian spaces scattered in the Caribbean sea, and around the world; small Islands or islets that are today touristic destinations or real state products. These are insular territories that evoke to recent colonial times and are traced by European, African and Caribbean cultures. These Little Islands offer a return to individual touristic practices; they propose a reflection about their value as landscape, and as space-territory-home simultaneously. Other insular and amphibian places show evidence of their precariousness, poverty, and show failure in management because of distance and smallness. Paradise pieces, that have been forgotten between the sky and the sea, and are close to disappearing into the climate change scenario. Este artículo intenta aproximarse a esos diminutos espacios anfibios disgregados en el Caribe, y en el mundo. Pequeñas islas o islotes que hoy día se convierten en destino turístico o producto inmobiliario. Territorios insulares que evocan su pasado colonial reciente, marcados por culturas europeas, africanas y caribes. Pequeñas islas ofrecen para regresar a una forma de turismo individual, y que hoy nos plantea una reflexión frente a su valor como paisaje, como espacio-territorio-casa simultáneamente. Otros lugares insulares y anfibios; que en contraposición evidencian la precariedad, la pobreza y falta de gestión por su lejanía y pequeñez. Trozos de paraíso, olvidados entre el cielo y el mar a punto de desaparecer en el horizonte del cambio climático global.

Il processo di urbanizzazione è un fenomeno che, negli ultimi decenni, ha registrato notevoli cambiamenti, i quali hanno avuto delle ripercussioni sulla distribuzione della popolazione mondiale tra aree urbane e rurali. L’aumento di popolazione nei centri urbani sta già creando problemi relativi alla produzione e allo smaltimento dei rifiuti e alla disponibilità e qualità della risorsa idrica, come anche problemi di sicurezza sanitaria nelle periferie che continuano ad espandersi in assenza di infrastrutture e servizi. In relazione a ciò, il modello di sviluppo urbano sostenibile assume una valenza strategica in termini sociali, economici ed ambientali. Il turismo può, infatti, contribuire ad aumentare la vitalità economica delle città e a rafforzare il senso di identità urbana. Il turismo sostenibile contribuisce, inoltre, a mantenere l'integrità ambientale e culturale delle comunità, a conservare il patrimonio naturale e le zone ecologicamente sensibili. In questa Sessione dedicata al turismo è stata avviata una riflessione su ciò che il turismo può e deve fare per la sostenibilità del territorio, in maniera particolare di quello urbano. Diventa fondamentale comprendere in che modo il turismo può essere un elemento che può dare un contributo significativo allo sviluppo e all’innovazione sostenibile urbana, dato il suo impatto trasversale sulla società e le sue molteplici sfaccettature ambientali, economiche, sociali, culturali. In conclusione, sulla base degli spunti emersi è lecito affermare che il turismo rappresenti una opportunità di trasformazione delle città e dei territori circostanti, modificando gli equilibri sociali e culturali, economici e urbanistici, riuscendo persino a cambiare il modo di intendere e di vivere le città.

Apesar da aparente espontaneidade, o processo de transformação de áreas litorâneas a partir do desenvolvimento turístico é marcado, também, pela realização de esforços de planejamento por parte de governos nacionais ou municipais. Das primeiras atuações europeias dos anos 1950, onde infraestruturas, equipamentos e alojamentos foram criados integralmente à margem de estruturas preexistentes, aos esforços atuais de requalificação de zonas criadas pelo desenvolvimento da atividade, muito foi feito e, gradualmente, novas variáveis foram incorporadas. Este trabalho analisa algumas dessas experiências, no sentido de demonstrar como valores do território, questões ambientais e distintas configurações urbanas têm sido incorporadas pelo planejamento do território turístico. A amostra incorpora os casos do Languedoc Roussillon, na França e do FONATUR, no México, exemplos de atuação integral do Estado, bem como atuações de planejamento ocorridas a partir dos anos 1990, na Espanha, que sintetizam buscas contemporâneas de requalificação de estruturas turísticas criadas pelo mercado em décadas anteriores. Despite the apparent spontaneity, the transformation of coastal areas influenced by tourism development is also marked by the completion of planning efforts by national or local governments. Since first European interventions in the 1950s, with the provision of infrastructure, equipments and accommodations disconnected from the existing settlements, to the current efforts for qualification of previously developed areas, a great deal was achieved and gradually new variables were incorporated. This paper analyses some of these experiences in order to demonstrate how territory values, environmental issues and distinct urban morphologies have been incorporated into Territorial Planning of touristic areas. The sample includes cases of Languedoc Roussillon in France and FONATUR accomplishments in Mexico, examples of comprehensive State planning, as well as planning interventions implemented from the 1990s in Spain, which synthesizes contemporary searches for qualification of touristic settlements developed in last decades.

Nadia Fava i Marisa Garcia Vergara del Departament d'Arquitectura i Enginyeria de la Construcció (LIFE LONG LEARNING PROGRAMME, 2013-1-ES1-ERA10-74530) Edició a càrrec de: Nadia Fava i Marisa García Vergara ‘New Scenarios for the Touristic European Maritime Coast’ is the title of the Lifelong Learning Programme held on 14th-24th June 2014 at the University of Girona (Girona, Spain). This was an intensive programme in architecture, urban planning, urban design, landscape, construction and tourism and was funded by the European Union as part of its objective to produce innovative thinking to meet the challenges of the new tourism modalities and behaviours in order to plan how to integrate the territory into a low impact multi-scale territorial project. An Intensive Programme is a short term (10 days) study programme designed to bring together students and professors from higher educational institutions in the EU with a view to increasing the quality and the volume of multilateral cooperation between higher educational establishments in Europe. Around fifty diploma and graduate students, along with nine professors from the four universities partnering the programme (Universitat de Girona, Univesità de la Sapienza, Rome, Aalborg University, Aalborg, Yeni Yüzyil University, Istanbul, Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, Lisbon), took part in the intensive course. The topics of the IP have since been incorporated into the teaching and research programmes of the partner schools, and assume an experimental and innovative design approach. Prior learning was fundamental for the success of the charrete, where students were required to share their multicultural academic knowledge on the issue of tourism

The aim of this contribute is to debate about cities and places from the point of view of their populations. It is a rethinking of the paradigms of government: if before it was done for the citizens, and these were identified with residents, today we are facing new forms of citizenship, more elusive and rarefied nonetheless with important territorial implications. Nowadays we have to recognize residents and transient populations (tourists, first of all) like different ways of being inhabitants of a place. In this view, being inhabitant is a fuzzy variable, and the property that describes and measures how, and how much, I’m an inhabitant of a place was called “inhabitantness”. The city inevitably becomes the mirror of its inhabitants, whether stable or transient. The project of the city absolutely must be accompanied by a draft, an idea, a path that thinks, includes and involves all its inhabitants.

This paper concentrates on the spatial dimension of a city and human perceptive abilities in its reality. A tourist is an exceptional person in a space which is unknown to him. He usually has a very general and virtual image of the place he wants to visit, often seen as a mosaic of fragmented pieces. He also has some quite well-defined targets and a limited timetable. Do our cities help him to orient himself in its space, unknown but desired and targeted? This paper formulates several rules which are helpful for better exploration of an unknown space in a city. They are based upon the theory of Orientation in Urban Space /A.A. Kantarek On Orientation in Urban Space, Cracow University of Technology Press, Kraków, 2008/ where Orientation Codes of Urban Space are formulated: the own codes of a form, signalling codes, mass transmission codes and other codes incorporated in culture.

This communication aims at analyzing the fact that tourist destinations are changing in recent times; as Ashworth called it ‘a change from blue to grey tourism’. It moves away from the traditional commonplace model of "Sun and Beach", towards another range of products designed to exploit the existing or made up heritage. The rising number of tourists with 'specific interests' attracted to places with their own identity does not match the original product of ‘Sun and Beach’ and its consequent acculturation. The new tourist consumption includes new products: culture and heritage. The final result is a series of 'blue and grey' products: natural or historic heritage, arranged in a catalog, and manufactured, packaged and distributed with the intention to be consumed. As a consequence, what should above all be a "cultural landmark" given its transcendental value for all human beings, is suffering extreme commercialization that is leading us to labeling it as a "culture of trademarks".

When tourists visit a house museum, we do not only examine works of art, but rather scrutinize an infrequent domestic space. Considering the house museums of Salvador Dalí (Portlligat) and César Manrique (Taro de Tahiche) we will analyze how tourists with our predatory and perverse peeking, notice decoration, furniture, interior and exterior spaces and, above all, the outstanding environment surrounding these homes. The authentic objects that once pertained to the artists, together with the inherited spatial experience, will thus turn into desire object and example for our own dwellings. Turning the house of an artist, or any other famous person, into a museum implies 'touristifying' its domesticity.

This paper puts forward a coherent argument for an alternative approach to urban monuments and archaeological sites as part of a viable model of sustainable tourism growth for mature “conceptually congested” historic destinations. Today’s fenced off tourist sites with paid entrance should become tomorrow’s freely accessible public spaces, hosting urban, collective activities. This will require the symbolic and actual lifting of fenced boundaries that is, transforming the deterrent, linear limit into an interspace that triggers the mutual penetration of the city’s past and present. My research draws from relevant, contemporary literature that regards monuments neither as well-guarded works of art, nor as remote sceneries or tourist-growth indicators, in order to propose a critical reappraisal of problematic concepts such as the re-emergence of the monuments’ political and cultural dimensions.

In the tourism sector, particularly in hotels, generally much more resources per guest are consumed than in residential buildings per inhabitant. Tourists generally want to enjoy free time and don’t want primarily save resources. Accordingly the development and application of resource efficient and convenient so-called “zeroemission” concepts in hotels, can contribute to the saving of resources, such as energy, fresh water and nutrients. Good practice examples can function as role models for integrated urban resource management and contribute to increased awareness and distribution of knowledge regarding such systems. This paper discusses new decentralized approaches for the integrated management of resources, which can be applied in the tourism sector as well as in urban renewal projects and new urban developments. Recent developments in the cities Hamburg and Berlin (Germany, EU) are used as examples to discuss the potentialities for integrated system - and zero emission approaches related to urban tourism.

The paper presents a reflection on the role of architecture in the age of global tourism and the post-political. It also examines the future of tourism in the face of a looming decline in the availability of cheap fossil fuels as a result of the so-called ‘peak oil’. Beyond the postmodern understanding of a metaphorical end of tourism based on ideas of “de-differentiation” and the coming together of tourism, work and everyday life, the paper moves toward the consideration of the possibilities for new forms of leisure and free time that could incorporate another idea of cultural exchange after the end of tourism as we know it. Instead of spectacle, the paper explores dreams and speculations about new utopian mobilities and encounters with the other beyond mere departures.

There was a time in the United States when hotels served as ad hoc homes, providing full time housing as well as hotel services. At that moment, hotel life blurred the difference between tourist architecture and housing architecture. Nowadays those dwelling typologies can become a reference to ensure social benefit on new touristic areas or existing ones.

The paper aims to link three main thoughts: First urban planning has traditionally been unable to tackled tourist spaces in relation to their physical specificity. Tourist spaces are not "normal" urban spaces. On the contrary they belong to categories related to human imaginary environments and tourist architecture has reply to this fantasies by imposing preconceived "traditional" forms and geographies assuming that is what the eventual customers expect following their constructions of signs. Secondly, in the present globalised economy, places and territories compete with each other like companies in the commodity market, but their strength its linked to their unique characteristics, thus authenticity is not only a cultural requirement, but a guarantee of market positioning; and finally after acknowledging the unsustainable current urban growth models we propose that a viable solution consist of returning to relations of proximity no conceived as a return to traditional forms, but as a reinterpretation of then.

El turismo es un motor para el desarrollo. En las últimas cinco décadas ha contribuido notablemente al desarrollo de España. Pero Debido a una falta frecuente de planificación y al envejecimiento de las infraestructuras turísticas se hace ahora esencial una renovación integral de los destinos turísticos costeros (DTC). Esta restructuración debe plantearse desde la perspectiva de la sostenibilidad, adecuando estas urbanizaciones a los requerimientos ambientales actuales. De esta forma, este sector podrá continuar siendo uno de los motores económicos del país (OMT, 2005). Si hasta ahora la gestión de los DTC maduros se había llevado a cabo sin una buena planificación, produciendo resultados indeseables en muchos de los casos, se hace ahora esencial desarrollar nuevas e innovadoras metodologías de análisis y gestión, que además de aportar un desarrollo conceptual puedan ser concretadas en técnicas y herramientas operativas. Estos instrumentos han de ser capaces de dar respuesta a los requerimientos en materia de desarrollo y gestión del turismo en el territorio desde el punto de vista de la sostenibilidad, ofreciendo nuevas vías de trabajo en las relaciones entre turismo, territorio y medio ambiente (KO, 2003).

At the moment, in many cities, and even in whole regions, the tourist areas have been stumped so that the limits between habitual inhabitants’ houses and the holiday ones are not already legible in the space. For renewing the existing tourist areas or for developing new ones, the strategy could be to erase the borders between regular and touristic house, so differences between persons could disappear, understanding that everyone is a potential tourist. In this way, the values that motivate domestic tourism project could invade the general domestic project, to convert everyday home into a place of refuge and off of the concerns of everyday work. It could also reverse the terms of the domestic speech in order to incorporate quality as an essential element in the development, and sale, of any promotion, surpassing the single speech always referred to how many square feet or the number of bedrooms.

This document proceeds from the research for my doctoral thesis titled This thesis is about the subject of Eden or paradise in architecture, to understand its concepts and be able to generate a general model to generate architecture that places us in a virtual way in paradisiacal places, in holidays as well as in daily life. It also seeks to build a system of measure to be used to turn into Eden the previously non “Edenic”. A comparative measuring system to know where we are in relation to how much Eden is present in places to intervene, or project. Eden; Tale, Image and Project. The zones of the thesis that are related to this congress are those related to the use of this tale, idea and image of the collective unconscious, when it comes to projecting a place that locates us physically, mentally and in our mood in paradise.

Tourism today reflects the limits of urban planning: sedentary and nomadic lifestyles. There is an overlap between different city users and geographical environments - sedentary and nomadic - which define a dynamic space that works with the existing historic fabric, comes face to face with the seasonal trends of tourist arrivals and are is to bring together those outstanding facets that defy the rules of the physical city. Tourism can be planned, not only by defining accommodation and hotel structures, but by focusing on identifying the main elements of urban transformation and areas where planning can emphasize the elements of the territory destined for "reception" along interconnecting chains. We can speak of "tourist urbanity" as a large floating urban mosaic, capable of maintaining the links between episodes that belong to the cultural fabric of cities and the territory.

Architecture is part of everyone’s daily life, we live in buildings, and our life is an ongoing transit between open and enclosed spaces. One of the main attractions for a tourist is definitely architecture. Architecture, urbanism and tourism involve several players. Among them are travel agencies and organizations that promote specialized trips. Arquexplora is the result of my background as an architect, twenty five years as an independent traveler, and my experience as a product manager in Tarannà, an Adventure Travel Company. We created a new concept of specialized trips, focused on vernacular architecture, heritage and culture, which supports a tourism based on a sustainability model that may benefit the local dwellers. Our trips are geared to the general public and professionals, so that architecture will act as a window to discover culture as whole. Arquexplora connects people with architecture, drawing a special attention to rural areas where locals keep their traditional ways of living. We aim to create awareness of the value of an outstanding material and intangible heritage, its potential as a tool for development and the need to preserve it. I want to share my experience and highlight some concepts and ideas towards creating new models of travelling and understanding the interaction between architecture and people. Arquexplora looks forward to become a platform to develop sustainable tourism projects of easy access for communities in developing countries and explore a new approach to tourism while minimizing its impact.
