This study aimed to evaluate the awareness and knowledge of primary school teachers regarding emergency first aid management for tooth avulsion at Agadir.Methods: The study was conducted in 46 randomly selected primary schools in Agadir and included all teachers from these schools. Data collection was carried out through a self-administered questionnaire focusing on teachers’ socio-demographic characteristics, understanding of the importance of emergency management and familiarity with emergency procedures. Data analysis was performed using Jamovi Version 2.3.21.0.Results: A total of 202 teachers participated in the study, 61% being female and 39% male. It has been found that 59.4% of the teachers had encountered an avulsed tooth accident at school. Of these, 23.9% indicated they would immediately replant the avulsed tooth, while 76.7% would contact the child’s parents. Regarding storage, 6.8% would preserve the avulsed tooth in milk, while 30.1% preferred using paper. No significant differences were found in term of seniority and age groups (p> 0.05).Discussion: An educational programs is needed to enhance the management and prognosis of permanent tooth avulsion among children in Morocco.Keywords: dental trauma, tooth avulsion, children, management, teachers

Panoramic images were analyzed in order to determine the number of second molar pathologies associated with the positions of third molars. The following radiographic lesions on the second molar were recorded: caries, root resorption and distal alveolysis. The Chi-square test was used to assess the association between different variables.Results: Of these 353 radiographies, 169 were males, ie, 48%, and 184 were females, ie, 52%. The age range was from 18 to 63 years. The prevalence of the impacted position of the lower third molar was noted in 60%. Distal caries on the second mandibular molar was present in 47.5% of instances having an impacted third molar. Caries was present in 65.5% of wisdom teeth in a normal position and was also present in 79.6% of the impacted teeth. This difference was statistically significant with p = 0.01. The angulation of the third molar is a factor of caries of the second molar: 58.56% of them were carious. Of all the teeth in association with an angulation, 72.03% showed distal alveolysis in the second molar. In addition, root resorption was found in 20.4% of second molars linked to a wisdom tooth in all angulation occurrences.Conclusion: It has been noted that among the pathologies seen on the mandibular second molar, distal alveolysis accounts for the majority of cases (58%), followed by caries (47.5%) and root resorption (13.3%). A general and comprehensive approach is described for the preparation of complex aryl imidazoles, where all three C-H bonds of the imidazole core is arylated in a regioselective and sequential manner. The sequential C-arylation enabled by the SEM-switch has helped in producing a variety of mono-, di- and triarylimidazoles by using diverse bromo- and chloroarenes.

Malaria incidence is generally lower in cities than rural areas. However, reported urban malaria incidence may not accurately reflect the level of ongoing transmission, which has potentially large implications for prevention efforts. To guide mosquito net distribution, we assessed the extent of malaria transmission in Conakry, Guinea, in 2018. We found evidence of active malaria transmission.

Background: We sought to document the association of Human immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and immunodeficiency with oncogenic Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection in women with no cervical neoplastic lesions identified through a cervical cancer screening programme in Côte d'Ivoire.Methods: A consecutive sample of women stratified on their HIV status and attending the national blood donor clinic or the closest HIV clinic was recruited during a cervical cancer screening programme based on the visual inspection. Diagnosis of HPV infection and genotype identification were based on the Linear Array; HPV test.Results: A total of 445 (254 HIV-positive and 191 HIV-negative) women were included. The prevalence of oncogenic HPV infection was 53.9% (95% confidence interval (CI) 47.9-59.9) in HIV-positive women and 33.7% (95% CI 27.1-40.3) in HIV-negative women (odds ratio (OR)=2.3 (95% CI 1.5-3.3)). In multivariate analysis, HIV-positive women with a CD4 count <200 cells mm(3) or between 200 and 499 cells mm(3) were more likely to harbour an oncogenic HPV compared with women with a CD4 count ≥500 cells mm(3) with OR of 2.8 (95% CI 1.1-8.1) and 1.7 (95% CI 1.0-2.9), respectively.Conclusion: A high prevalence of oncogenic HPV was found in women with no cervical neoplastic lesions, especially in HIV-positive women. Despite antiretroviral use, immunodeficiency was a main determinant of the presence of oncogenic HPV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Burning mouth syndrome is a disabling condition of complex pathophysiology characterized by spontaneous pain felt in the oral mucosa in the absence of evident mucosal lesions which lacks efficient treatments to this day. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of methylene blue in the management of burning mouth syndrome. Methods: The study was conducted at the dental clinic of the Anta Diop University and Newtown dental clinic of Dakar, Senegal. A solution of methylene blue as a mouth-rinse (0.5%) was applied for 5 minutes in five patients satisfying the ICHD-3 diagnostic criteria for burning mouth syndrome. This procedure was repeated every 6 hours 3 times per 24h, during 7 days. Using numeric rating scale, pain severity was assessed as the mean pain felt during the last day of application. Results: After 7 days, the pain was significantly reduced by two-thirds and almost absent at 3 and 6 months follow-up. No secondary effects of the use of methylene blue were observed. Putative mechanisms of action and potential implications for treatment are discussed. Conclusion: Methylene blue is an old compound but a novel topical therapy that could prove beneficial in the management of burning mouth syndrome.

Abstract Background Cervical cancer screening is not yet standard of care of women attending HIV care clinics in Africa and presents operational challenges that need to be addressed. Methods A cervical cancer screening program based on visual inspection methods was conducted in clinics providing antiretroviral treatment (ART) in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. An itinerant team of midwives was in charge of proposing cervical cancer screening to all HIV-positive women enrolled in ART clinics as well as to HIV-negative women who were attending the Abidjan national blood donor clinic. Positively screened women were systematically referred to a colposcopic examination. A phone-based tracking procedure was implemented to reach positively screened women who did not attend the medical consultation. The association between HIV status and cervical cancer screening outcomes was estimated using a multivariate logistic model. Results The frequency of positive visual inspection was 9.0% (95% CI 8.0-10.0) in the 2,998 HIV-positive women and 3.9% (95% CI 2.7-5.1) in the 1,047 HIV-negative ones (p < 10-4). In multivariate analysis, HIV infection was associated with a higher risk of positive visual inspection [OR = 2.28 (95% CI 1.61-3.23)] as well as more extensive lesions involving the endocervical canal [OR = 2.42 (95% CI 1.15-5.08)]. The use of a phone-based tracking procedure enabled a significant reduction of women not attending medical consultation after initial positive screening from 36.5% to 19.8% (p < 10-4). Conclusion The higher frequency of positive visual inspection among HIV-positive women supports the need to extend cervical cancer screening program to all HIV clinics in West Africa. Women loss to follow-up after being positively screened is a major concern in cervical screening programs but yet, partly amenable to a phone tracking procedure.

Background and Objectives: Pregnancy in women with sickle cell disease (SCD) is associated with severe complications. Red blood cell (RBC) alloimmunisation is a worrying situation in pregnant women with SCD. This could increase the difficulty in finding a pheno-compatible red blood product. Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of RBC alloantibodies in pregnant women with SCD and to determine the risk factors for alloantibodies formation., Methods/materials: We conducted a prospective study at the "Centre National de Transfusion Sanguine de Bamako" from August 2022 to January 2023. For each participant, we collected important information, including obstetrical and transfusion histories. We performed ABO group, Rh and Kell phenotyping, and antibody screening in all study participants. We performed statistical analysis., Results: We recruited 95 pregnant women with SCD. In our study, 62% of our participant had a history of blood transfusion. Only 23% of our pregnant women with SCD had a history of miscarriage. The prevalence of RBC alloantibodies was 14%. The main antibodies detected were anti-E (38%) and pan-agglutinins (23%). Miscarriage history, blood transfusion history, and pregnancy number were the main risk factors for RBC alloimmunisation., Conclusion: The care of pregnant women with SCD is complex and requires collaboration between haematologists, clinicians and gynaecologists. National guidelines should be implemented to make ABO and D typing, Rh and Kell phenotyping and antibody screening routine for all pregnant women. This would facilitate early detection of high-risk situations. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the antibiotic-prescribing attitudes of dental students during the management of endodontic infections., Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in the five faculties of dental medicine in Morocco. A self-administered questionnaire was used and completed online. This questionnaire has three parts: the first includes the socio-demographic data, the second is related to the types of antibiotics prescribed, and the final addresses clinical scenarios in which antibiotics are prescribed. Data were analyzed with Jamovi, and X 2 and ANOVA tests were performed., Results: Three hundred and sixty-five students participated in this study. The average duration of antibiotic therapy was 5.87 ± 1.45. Of all the students, 83.8% prescribe amoxicillin first. For patients with penicillin allergy, clindamycin was the most prescribed, amounting to 53.9%. Antibiotics are prescribed for all pulp and periapical pathologies. For acute pulpitis and acute apical periodontitis, a statistically significant difference between the different faculties was noted ( p = 0.03). Regarding apical abscesses, antibiotic prescription was more frequent at the public faculty of Casablanca, corresponding to 92.8%. ( p = 0.02)., Conclusion: It appears from this study that there is a need for faculties to develop innovative teaching models to improve students' level of knowledge on antibiotics and their indications in endodontics.
