This article examines the effectiveness of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method in improving English vocabulary acquisition. TPR utilizes physical actions and gestures to enhance memory retention and create meaningful associations. By engaging multiple learning modalities, TPR reduces anxiety and promotes a playful learning environment. The article emphasizes the importance of incorporating physicality and immersion in language classrooms for optimal vocabulary learning outcomes

The Total Physical Response (TPR) learning method was developed by James J. Asher. He argues that direct pronunciation to children or students contains an order, and then children or students will respond physically before producing verbal or speech responses. The aims of this study were (1) to find out how far speaking skills (mahārat al-kalām) in Arabic have increased through the TPR method in MTsN 4 Jombang, and (2) to find out the supporting and inhibiting factors in increasing mahārat al-kalām through the TPR method in MTsN 4 Jombang. This research method uses a descriptive-qualitative approach with data collection techniques using observation, interviews, documentation, and oral tests. The data analysis technique uses data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The results showed that (1) with the TPR learning method, the final test score of Arabic learning for mahārat al-kalām in cycle 1 was 74.3% (good). After being given referrals again in cycle 2, it reached 87.6% (very good); (2) The supporting factors that influence speaking activities are language (linguistics) and non-linguistics, while the inhibiting factors are more dominant due to a lack of vocabulary (mufradāt) mastery.

The TPR (Total Physical Response) method in its implementation through speech instructions given to learners can be played through real examples that are meaningful and understandable. The nature of this study is descriptive analysis, which is the regular parsing of data that has been obtained, then given understanding and explanation in order to be well understood by readers. So that the steps taken are 1) learners must actively listen well to what is demonstrated by the teacher with the vocabulary keywords mentioned and the commands given by the teacher with examples of the use of such vocabulary in everyday life or phenomena that are around, 2) the student's task in listening to the teacher's demonstration explanation explaining the existing vocabulary must be in some time and not just once and thoroughly, 3) The next stage is to deify and imitate, 4) the teacher tries to order students without keywords or demonstrations or other stimulus, 5) Students act or demonstrate teacher commands, 6) creative and innovative demonstrations are carried out by teachers so that students are more understanding and able to imitate well, 7) teachers give varied command models without demonstrations or demonstrations, and 8) then in the final stages students are able to protest to colleagues in turn.

English becomes an international language to help people who have different mother tongue to communicate each other. Learning English is very important because it also helps to increase the quality of human resource. Each individual has right to learn English without exception. Students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also can learn English. This study aimed is to describe the process implementation of Total Physical Response method in teaching English and the response from students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This study uses descriptive qualitative as research design with observation and interview. The participants in this study are five students who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in one of special need schools in Bali. The result of this study shows that implementing Total Physical Response method, students are easy to remember the new words in English and they also practice the word physically and verbally. Total Physical Response method makes students feeling comfortable and enjoy in teaching and learning process. They are also being motivated and active in the English class. The article deals with methods of interactive learning of English, ways how to use it at different stages of learning, increasing scientific interest in understanding global trends in the methodology of teaching English. Based on the analysis of the scientific literature as well as a comprehensive analysis of the practice of teaching and learning English in Ukraine and abroad, certain problems and challenges facing the methodology of teaching English today have been identified. The various methods and approaches developed today are an attempt to answer these questions.The United States and Europe became the founders of the so-called Epoch of Methods. During that period, such teaching methods as Total Physical Response, Suggestopedia, as well as Community Language Learning, Audio Lingual Approach were developed. The suggested approaches and methods differ in terms of their principles, understanding of the nature of language and features of the educational process, the role of teachers and students, learning goals, the ratio of target and native language. The list of methods and approaches is by no means exhaustive and reflects only a part of all variety of teaching English methodology.Among the most interesting methods we distinguish the TPR method (Total Physical Response). Nowadays, there are many published works of TPR and studies, which create an understanding of its long-term prospects. The most important skill is to understand new sentences when learning a foreign language.It was concluded that there is a need to diversify approaches to learning, focused on keeping students’ attention, encouraging them to active cooperation and ensuring student-centeredness in the process of teaching and learning, as well as stress-free educational environment. This article through a four months’ TPR teaching experiment among six preschool children, namely, Pre-interview, Pre-test, TPR Teaching Experiment (such as “Display and Imitation”, “Instructions and Action”, “Situational Communication”), Post-test, and Post-interview, attempts to investigate the application and effectiveness of the TPR method in preschool children’s English teaching. The experimental results show that this approach can not only help children understand the new language quickly and gain long-term memory, but also allow children to learn English happily in a “zero stress” environment. However, abstract words and sentences are difficult to express in the TPR methods. At the same time, this “teaching through lively activities” method is easily leads to classroom discipline chaos. The TPR method also requires teachers to have high professional quality and comprehensive skills, including language expression ability, sports ability, performance skills, etc. Therefore, promoting this approach in preschool English teaching also faces technical and teaching staff difficulties. This study validates some conclusions of earlier studies which can provide experience and lessons to preschool English teachers in applying TPR as well as theoretical and practical contributions to future research.

The principal objective of this qualitative research was to determine the effectiveness of using Total Physical Response (TPR) to develop speaking skill in beginner’s learners in a rural school. This study was applied using action research method, which involved observation, planning and implementation. The process was carried out in five-week classes during the term November 2019-January 2020 with 26 students from 7th grade at “Belisario Quevedo” Rural School. The instruments used were structured and unstructured checklist and teacher`s diary. The results showed TPR is effective to develop speaking skill in EFL beginners. Students could use English to communicate with their partners and the teacher using basic vocabulary, correct pronunciation and some fluency after applying the method. As a conclusion, Total Physical Response helped beginners to get familiar with the language and learn English with the use of movements, mimics and gestures, making students produce English to communicate.

In the teaching and learning process, learning methods are important things that need to be considered by a teacher so that learning goes well and is not boring. Especially in learning Arabic which requires mastering four skills, the selection of methods must be appropriate to teach some of these abilities. Usually a teacher imposes a method to carry out learning, so what happens is that students are less enthusiastic about taking lessons. This study aims to determine the use of the Total Physical Response method to train students' Arabic speaking skills. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research method by applying two cycles. Each cycle includes action planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation activities. The results of the study indicate that to train students' speaking Arabic skills, it is necessary to equip students with a large vocabulary, and then the vocabulary is used to train students' speaking skills. The introduction of vocabulary in this study was carried out in the first cycle and the use of vocabulary in training students' speaking skills was carried out in the second cycle.

The TPR (Total Physical Response) learning method is the method that is most suitable for children. This study aims to determine the total physical response learning method for students. This research uses qualitative research with the literature review method. The literature selection technique is based on the keywords of the total physical response learning method for students. The literature comes from accredited national journals on google scholar with a publication limit of the last 10 years. The literature study technique uses a synthetic matrix based on reference sources, sample types, methods, interventions, and findings. The results in this study were obtained from as many as 12 journals. The conclusion in this study is that the total physical response method is recommended to be applied to elementary age students so that they are able to develop the ability to hear, speak, listen, and master new vocabulary through several movements that have been commanded by the teacher, so that they indirectly learn audio, visual, and tactile.

This study focuses on improving students’ abilities in learning English with the support of Pictorial Metaplan as a teaching aid. The use of this Metaplan aims to improve speaking skills in formal and non-formal contexts. This pictorial Metaplan is a realia in the form of an illustrated carpet with a theme Getting Direction. Pictorial Metaplan focuses on the topic Getting Direction and applied directly to 15 students in the 8th grade of junior high school. The implementation of the use of the Pictorial Metaplan begins with distributing questionnaires and implementing Pre- Test and Post-Test, then direct implementation of using Pictorial Metaplan combined with Total Physical Response (TPR) method. The treatment for students was carried out by dividing two class groups, the control group, and the experimental group. The control group used conventional methods, without using learning aids, while the second group used the Pictorial Metaplan as a teaching aid. Based on the results of Pre-Test and Post-Test show an increase in the results of the values before and after implementing the Pictorial Metaplan. Thus it can be concluded that learning in the experimental group using Pictorial Metaplan is more effective than learning using conventional methods.

Actuality of the theme of research is to show the importance of language instructions, their usage and implementation in English classes. The problem of giving instructions is very important and actual nowadays because knowledge of language is valued by the simplicity and correctness of instructions using it in a proper way. In this work both theoretical and practical approaches of teaching and learning instructions are described in details. Moreover, knowing the instructions and following it are significant for an effective learning. Instructions during lesson have great educational value. Instructions should be treated as central not peripheral to the foreign language teaching program. There are many advantages of using instructions: they are highly motivating and entertaining and they can give shy students more opportunity to express their opinions and feelings. They also enable learners to acquire new experiences within a foreign language which are not always possible during a typical lesson.

This research is based on the author's awareness that language is a basic thing that is needed by humans as social beings to be able to communicate with each other in order to complete the needs of human life itself. The main focus of this study is to observe the responses of BIPA learners to the BIPA teaching method conducted at the Indonesian Consulate General in Bern. This research uses the direct method combined and matched with the TPR teaching technique. The data was carried out by taught and observing the BIPA program class, then the author was evaluating the teaching (research) program in order to see the scores received by students as an illustration of the success or failure of the research carried out. The results showed that the combination of the Direct and the TPR method can make BIPA students quickly master the learning material.

This study analyses how a teacher at SMPLB-CD YPAC (Foundation for Children with Disabilities), Banda Aceh, Indonesia, teaches English listening using the Total Physical Response (TPR) method to autistic students. In this method, a teacher instructed the students to act as modelled by the teacher. Students are considered to have good listening comprehension if they understood the teacher’s commands and imitated the act. This research is qualitative to describe the application of the TPR method in teaching English listening skills to autistic students. The sample for this study was four autistic students at the school under study. The data were collected by observing and documenting the English listening teaching-learning process in the classroom using the TPR method. The data were then analysed, focusing on the classroom dialogues directly related to using the TPR method to teach listening comprehension to autistic students. The results showed that the TPR method is suitable to teach students with autism to learn and understand new words. This was because they were asked to imitate the words verbally and in action repeatedly. The students could memorize the new vocabulary because it involved motor activities, which created a fun atmosphere in the classroom. Students were active in doing the actions and have no pressure to learn. The TPR method also contains elements of games which is able to raise a positive mood in autistic students.

Introducing English from an early age should be supported by adequate media and infrastructure. Learning should be arranged in such a way as to give birth to learning activities that are important and fun. Therefore, it requires perfect and efficient teaching methods. Research on "Introducing English to early childhood through singing with the TPR method" aims to introduce English by singing to early childhood at al-Hidayah Kindergarten, Greged District, Cirebon. The method used is a descriptive analysis of activities carried out by fostering the ability to recognize English in early childhood. The process is carried out using several methods such as singing while playing and singing, with movements using learning media. The conclusion is that by using the singing and playing method, early childhood children can easily recognize the vocabulary, and can accidentally add to the vocabulary of the child.

Besides the pre-transition data collection, I also added questions to the end-of-semester surveys.

This study attempts to investigate the effect of the Total Physical Response (TPR) Method on vocabulary retention and explore the young learners’ attitudes toward it. It involved sixty two English young learners (YLs) aging from 10 to 11. All of them were attending English classes at Viet Uc English Language Center (henceforth called VUC) in Bien Hoa City where the current study was conducted. Both quantitative and qualitative data was obtained through the three instruments, namely pre- and post-test and interview. Descriptive statistics was employed for data analysis. The results revealed that TPR had effect on the YLs’ vocabulary knowledge through an increase in their vocabulary retention after they underwent the treatment. Similarly, the findings of the study also revealed that the YLs had positive attitudes toward the use TPR in vocabulary teaching and learning. This study is expected to shed light to the implementation of teaching vocabulary methods in the VUC context and other similar contexts.

The focus of this paper is one of the methods of foreign language learning called Total Physical Response, which falls in line with neurolinguistic principles and naturalness of language acquisition. In the paper we identify the neurolinguistic background on which this method of foreign language instruction rests, namely we discuss how the acquisition of the mother tongue is mirrored in Total Physical Response – the teacher uses imperatives and body movements, which students then imitate, just like children observe their parents speaking and doing things. Furthermore, we discuss the role of left and right hemispheres of the brain in Total Physical Response and how this method develops and emphasizes the creative, physical side of language acquisition thus avoiding simultaneous reception and production. In addition, we also try to present some of the principles that teachers rely on in the teaching process and types of the TPR method in the classroom, depending on the materials used. Finally, we attempt to identify certain drawbacks of this method, which essentially present its limitations.

There are some methods used in teaching English. One of them is TPR (Total Physical Response). This method was used for mothers and children in Villa Muka Kuning because it doesn’t only concern on language skill but it will make participants actively engange in learning process. In this community services, TPR method was applied by using flash cards, songs and games. After conducting the community services, it showed that both mothers and childres were very excited learning English. Moreover, the ability of mothers in teaching English to their children ran more effectively. It is hoped that mothers can optimize their ability in learning English. Previous studies have largely focused on the importance, problems, and challenges of teaching second languages in Australian schools, but very few have investigated the teaching methods used in the classroom to do so. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the methods applied by teachers who teach Indonesian as a second language in one of the public primary schools in South Australia to enable their Australian students to comprehend the instruction in the Indonesian class. The data were collected through observational field notes and video recordings of three class meetings from two teachers. Evidence gives validity to analysis, and thus the data were analysed using the transcription conventions as proposed by Burns, Joyce & Gollin (1996). The results showed that the most frequently used methods by the teachers in teaching Indonesian to the Early Year level students were TPR (total physical response) and GTM (grammar-translation method). TPR was useful as the act of moving around seemed to help the children remember the vocabulary. Furthermore, GTM helped the teachers clarify the meanings of words and sentences for the students by translating them into their first language, i.e. English. These methods were not taught in isolation but were integrated by the teachers with other methods such as the direct method and audio-lingual method. The reflection of this teaching practice is considered a worthwhile contribution for other teachers who are also teaching Indonesian in other countries and as additional insights to immerse themselves in their language teaching practice. Moreover, considering the benefits of becoming bilingual, such as in communication, culture, cognition, character, curriculum, and economy, schools should provide more training for teachers to help them be able to use the best techniques in teaching the second language to enable and empower them to integrate other languages into their classes.

The problem in this research was fewer students’ motivation in learning English. This research aimed to increase students’ motivation in learning English by using the Total Physical Response (TPR) method. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The participants in this research were twenty-five students, twelve men and thirteen women in the sixth-grade of MI Sa'adah El-Islamiayah Tembilahan. The data were collected in each cycle from observation, questionnaire, and field notes. The findings of this research showed that the study by using the Total Physical Response (TPR) method has increased the students’ motivation in learning English in the sixth-grade of MI Sa'adah El-Islamiyah Tembilahan after two cycles have done. It can be seen from the result of the questionnaire, observation, and field note. In the first cycle, it was seen that there was a slight increase to the students’ motivation in learning English while in the second cycle; the students' motivation was more increased than the first cycle. Furthermore, the researchers concluded that using the Total Physical Response (TPR) method was able to increase the students’ motivation in learning English. As a recommendation, the method can be utilized to grade up the students’ better-learning motivation.
