The introduction of many exotic animal species to environments which are not natural for them with the curiosity of human beings about animal species and the gradual acceleration of both transport among countries and intercontinental transport further threatens the natural communities. In order to investigate the distribution of exotic turtle species Trachemys scripta in Canakkale, field studies were carried out between March and June 2014. Direct observation, detection of species by photographs and capturing by scoop nets and trap-nets were performed during the fieldwork. Trachemys scripta (the red-eared slider) was first recorded in Saricay stream, the Kepez, Kocabas and the Kavak tributaries, in the Canakkale province. It might be stated that this species arrived in the areas where it was detected through antropochore dispersal and may pose a threat to the natural species in the future.

Humans have begun to make collections with many living and lifeless samples that they have collected from the very nature of the past as a result of day-to-day curiosity. Thanks to these collections, many living creatures are playing an important role in introducing them to future generations. For this reason, it is necessary to increase the studies about the discovery of inventories in the Zoological Museums and presenting them to the scientific world. In this study, the inventories of amphibian and reptile specimens preserved in Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Zoology Museum (COMU-ZM) were established within the scope of the projects and scientific studies carried out since 2003. A total of 316 specimens 16 different species including Amphibia, a total of 918 specimens 66 different species belonging to the Reptilia have been identified at the Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Zoology Museum (COMU-ZM). As a result of this work, museum records of amphibian and reptile species in Turkey will form the basis of scientific studies.

Sürüngen türleri içerisinde özellikle yılan türlerinde kanibalizm yani aynı türe ait bireylerin yenmesi yaygın durumdur. Çalışmada yakalanan Colubridae familyasına ait olan dişi Coronella austriaca bireyi iki ay süre ile teraryumda tutulmuştur. Dişi bireyin ovovivipar doğumunun ardından, ebeveynin yavrularla ve yavruların da kendi arasındaki kanibalizm davranışları gözlemlenmiştir. Yapılan çalışma Coronella austriaca türünde üreme ve kanibalizm davranışı ile ilgili bilgiler vermektir., Cannibalism involves consuming all or part of another individual of the same species as food. Consuming the same species, or showing cannibalistic behaviour is common in reptiles, especially in snake species. The captured female Coronella austriaca of the Colubridae family was kept in captivity for two months in the terrarium. The female sample fed on one of the offsprings after ovoviviparous delivery. In the following observations it was determined that one of the juvenile individuals fed on another juvenile with similar size. The objective of this study is to provide information about the breeding and cannibalistic behaviour of Coronella austriaca under captivity.

Günümüzde alternatif elektrik üretimyöntemlerinden Rüzgâr Enerji Santralleri giderek yaygınlaşmaktadır. Doğadayapılan tüm müdahalelerde olduğu gibi Rüzgâr Enerji Santrallerinin de özelliklekuş türleri üzerinde habitat kaybı ve rahatsızlık gibi etkileri vardır. Yapılançalışmada Tekirdağ ilinde bulunan farklı Rüzgâr Enerji Santrali sahasındaki 30kurulu türbin ve 10 kurulacak türbin olmak üzere toplam 40 türbin ve çevresindeüreyen kuş türleri ve yuvaları araştırılmıştır. 2017 yılı üreme dönemindegerçekleştirilen arazi çalışmalarında sahada kesin üreme kodu verilen bireylerve yuvalar, tür ve familya düzeylerinde gruplandırılarak değerlendirilmiştir.Çalışılan her bir rüzgâr türbininin gövdesi referans alınarak çevresinde 100,200, 300, 400, 500 ve >500 m olacak şekilde 6 etki alanına bölünerek hatboyu gözlem yöntemi ile taranmıştır. Çalışma süresince türbin çevrelerinde 13familyaya ait 323 kullanılan yuva ve 409 adet kullanılmayan yuva saptanmıştır.Türbin çevrelerinde en az üreme aktivitesi 0-100 m mesafede (4 familya, 13yuva) tespit edilirken, en çok üreme faaliyeti 400-500 m mesafede (10 familya,119 yuva) tespit edilmiştir. Tespit edilen familya ve birey sayıları türbinlereolan uzaklık ve bulundukları habitatlara göre karşılaştırılmıştır. Rüzgârtürbini kurulum noktaları belirlenirken hazırlanan ornitolojik ön etütraporlarında sahada üreyen kuş türleri araştırılarak yuvalama habitatlarıdikkate alınmalıdır.&nbsp, Today, Wind Power Plants are becomingincreasingly widespread among alternative power generation methods. As in allthe interventions made in the country, wind energy plants have effects such asloss of habitat and discomfort on birds in particular.A total of 40 turbines, including 30installed turbines and 10 turbines, different located in Tekirdağ province,were investigated and bird species and breeding areas were researched. In thefield studies carried out in the breeding season of 2017, the individuals andnests that were given the definite breeding code were evaluated by groupingthem at the species and family level. Each of the wind turbines studied wasdivided into 6 domains with 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and> 500 m around thebody of the wind turbine. During the study, 323 used sockets and 409 unusedsockets belonging to 13 families were found in the turbine surroundings. Themost reproductive activity was detected at 400-500 m (10 families, 119 nests)while the least reproductive activity was detected at 0-100 m distance (4families, 13 nests) in the turbine circumference. The number of families andindividuals identified were compared according to the distances to the turbinesand their habitats. In the ornithological preliminary study reports preparedwhile setting points of the wind turbine are determined, nesting habitatsshould be considered by searching bird breeding species.

The taxonomic status and phylogenetic position of the recently recorded smooth newt (Lissotriton vulgaris) population from the island of Bozcaada (Çanakkale, Turkey) is clarified on the basis of morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses. The L. vulgaris population from Bozcaada presents body proportions and morphological features of subsp. schmidtlerorum, such as small body length, absence of the tail filament, and dorsal crest with pointed free margin. Similarly, phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial DNA sequences (ND4, 16S rRNA) place the Bozcaada population within Clade E of the recent L. vulgaris phylogeny, which consists of L. v. schmidtlerorum populations.

In this study, the age structure of an Asaccus barani sample from Şanlıurfa (southeastern Anatolia, Turkey) was determined by skeletochronology for the first time. A total of 17 preserved adults (7♂♂, 10♀♀) were evaluated, and the maximum observed lifespan was recorded as 6 years in males and 5 years in females. The first line of arrested growth was partially eroded by endosteal resorption in 29% of individuals and completely eroded in 18%. The mean age was 3.85 ± 0.50 years in males and 3.80 ± 0.32 years in females; the mean snout-vent length (SVL) was 46.99 ± 2.64 mm (range: 37.78-54.13) in males and 46.89 ± 1.51 mm (range: 40.33-53.19) in females. There was no significant difference between sexes in terms of age and SVL. However, there was a positive correlation between age and SVL in both males and females.

Blood serum proteins of specimens belonging to Pelodytes caucasicus and Pelobates syriacus populations were compared qualitatively and quantitively by means of polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis and densitometry methods. It was determined that the blood serum proteins of both populations demonstrated qualitative and quantitive differences. This result supports the morphological and osteological studies emphasizing the fact that the genus Pelodytes needs to be treated as a separate family (Pelodytidae).

We studied, for the first time, the age structure of Eremias strauchi strauchi (Kessler, 1878) from a sample (18 adults) of a population living in the vicinity of Iğdır (eastern Turkey) using the skeletochronological method. The maximum observed longevity was 7 years for males and 5 years for females. The age of males ranged from 4 to 7 years (mean 4.91, n = 12), while that of females ranged from 4 to 5 years (mean 4.66, n = 6). The average snoutvent length (SVL) was 61.10 mm in males and 60.82 mm in females. The differences in mean age and SVL between sexes were not statistically significant. Intersexual differences in body size were male-biased, but this state was not statistically significant. Age and SVL were positively correlated in both sexes.

Observations during 2001 and 2002 at Uzungöl Lake (Trabzon), situated within the distribution area of Pelodytes caucasicus in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey, established that the usual breeding season of the species extended from mid July to mid September. Periodic day and night measurements of some ecological characteristics of the lake (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen) were recorded during the breeding season. The first spawning was observed during the night of 22 July 2001. Clutches (egg masses) were laid in the deeper parts of the lake, on submerged vegetation. The clutches contained between 446 and 492 eggs. The first larvae hatched 5 days after the spawning. They completed their metamorphosis in 31-35 days and then emerged on land. In this study, the feeding biology is being examined on 80 Bufo viridis specimens (30 males, 50 females) which were all collected from 6 localities of the vicinity of İzmir. In accordance with the stomach content analysis it was fully determined that the species is predominantly nourished in a insectivorous way (92, 20%) and also Oligochaeta, Crustacea, Arachnida, Gastropoda, Diplopoda, Chilopoda and Amphibia take place in its nutrition types. Throught out the insects, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Dermaptera, Homoptera, Plecoptera, Blattaria and Embioptera; from Oligochaeta Lumbriculida; from Crustacea Isopoda; from Arachnida Araneae and Opiliones; from Gastropoda Stylommatophora; from Diplopoda Julida; from Chilopoda Lithobiida and Scolopendrida and also from Amphibia only Anur genus were being determined.

In this study, 863 (446 males ; 417 females ) adults and 120 juvenile B.viridis specimens collected from various localities in Turkey were examined by morphological, osteological and serological methods. Our results did not establish any qualitative or quantitative differences which are significant between the populations examined. However the populations from the southern parts of Anatolia (Mersin, Adana, Antakya and Urfa) were found to be relatively different than those of the other regions of Turkey in colour and pattern. By polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis, blood serum proteins generally could be seperated into 9-13 fractions or fraction groups. The qualititative comparison of the serum proteins established that the populations from the southern parts of Anatolia showed some differences from the other samples especially in the globulines group. Based on the analyses conducted, we are of the opinion that all of the populations of B.viridis in Turkey belong to the nominate race.

We examined some hematological parameters (red blood cell count, white blood cell count, haemoglobin concentration, hematocrit value, mean cell volume, mean cell haemoglobin, mean cell haemoglobin concentration and plasma total protein) on five anuran species of terrestrial (Pseudepidalea viridis, Pelobates syriacus and Hyla arborea), semi-aquatic (Rana dalmatina) and aquatic (Pelophylax ridibundus) nature from Çanakkale, Turkey. Differences between males and females in terms of haemoglobin, hematocrit and mean cell volume in P. viridis were statistically significant. The RBC count was higher in terrestrial and aquatic species than in semi-aquatic species. Haemoglobin concentration, hematocrit value, MCV and MHC were higher in terrestrial species than in semi-aquatic and aquatic species. The MCHC values were all similar to each other. The plasma total protein was higher in terrestrial species than in aquatic species. The population size of marsh frogs (Rana ridibunda) was estimated using the mark-recapture method in Lake Yayla (Buldan, Denizli, Turkey). According to the results, the mean estimated population was 14,733 and the sex ratio was female biased (male: female, 0.56). the main limiting factors of the marsh frog population are also outlined.

In this study, 22 adult (10 ♂♂, 12 ♀♀) Rana ridibunda specimens were investigated morphologically. The morphological characteristics of the Yagmapmar specimens are in accordance with those given for R. r. caralitana. Furthermore, the distribution range of R. r. caralitana has now been extended., Bu çalışmada, 22 ergin (10 ♂♂, 12 ♀♀) Rana ridibunda morfolojik olarak incelenmiştir. Yağmapınar örneklerinin morfolojik karakterleri Rana ridibunda caralitana için verilen karakterlerle uyum içindedir. Ayrıca, R. r. caralitana" nın dağılışı genişletilmiştir.

The herpetofauna of Bozdaǧ in western Anatolia was investigated. In the study area, 152 samples belonging to 22 species from 14 amphibian and reptile families were described. One of these species is an urodelan, 5 are anurans, 1 is a tortoise, 10 are lizards and 5 are snakes. A specimen of Eumeces schneideri was found at Bozdaǧ for the first time. © TÜBİTAK.

Bu çalışmada, Mardin civarında yayılış gösteren amfibi ve reptil türlerinin tespitine çalışılmıştır. Aynı zamanda taksonlarm biotopları hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. Çalışmada 17 taksona ait toplam 50 örnek değerlendirilmiştir. Bunlardan 2 tanesi Amphibia, 15 tanesi Reptilia sınıfına dahildir., The aim of this study is to determine the amphibian and reptilian species which live in Vilayet Mardin. The data on their biotopes are also given. In the study, 50 specimens belonging to 17 taxa are evaluated. Of these, 2 belong to amphibians and 15 belong to reptilians.

Certain entodiniid ciliates, somewhat different from those previously described (1), were observed the during examination of the rumen contents of 30 adult domestic cattle (Bos taurus L.) in the vicinity of Izmir. We propose that these new forms should be taxonomically named Entodinium oektemae n. sp. and Entodinium imaii n. sp. The frequencies Entodinium oektemae n. sp. and Entodinium imaii n. sp. were 6.67% 16.67% respectively. The main characteristics of these two species are described in detail and discussed in comparison with those of the previously reported ones.
