This study aimed to examine the COVID-19 patients’ hospital anxiety, depression levels and independence in activities of daily living. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with n=100 COVID-19 patients. The data was collected using a patient descriptive information form, the “Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living”, and the “Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale”. Descriptive statistics, Student t-test, Mann Whitney U test, One-way ANOVA test, and Kruskal Wallis test were used to compare groups. The significance level is pre-specified as 0.05. The mean age of the patients was 41.77 ± 12.10 years (Min: 20, Max: 70). More than half of the patients were male (68%), and 86% were treated and cared for in the service isolation rooms. Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale mean scores were 6.66 ± 6.05 (Min: 0, Max: 21) and the Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living mean scores were 5.57 ± 1.27 (Min: 0, Max: 6). It was determined that as the patients' level of independence in their daily living activities increased, their hospital anxiety and depression levels decreased. A negative moderate correlation (r =-0.530, r =-0.552) was found between the mean scores of these variables. Since these patients usually receive care in isolation in their rooms, activities of daily living should be monitored and supported in terms of the hospital anxiety and depression levels. © 2022 The Author(s). Bu değişkenlerin ortalama puanları arasında negatif orta düzeyde bir korelasyon (r = -0.530, r = -0.552) bulundu.Sonuç: Covid-19 hastalarının günlük yaşam aktivitelerinde bağımsızlık ve hastane anksiyete ve depresyon düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesi önemlidir. Bu hastalar genellikle odalarında izole bir şekilde bakım aldıkları için günlük yaşam aktiviteleri takip edilmeli ve hastane anksiyete ve depresyon düzeyleri açısından desteklenmelidir.

Aim This study aimed to synthesize the findings of studies evaluating educational programs providing curricular transcultural nursing education. Backgrounds Nursing care education about cultural diversity and experience with taking care of patients from different cultures and special populations are significant factors that could likely influence cultural competence. The effect of transcultural nursing education given to nursing students has been investigated by different researchers and different methods. Addressing the effects of transcultural nursing education on nursing students’ cultural awareness, knowledge and attitudes can contribute to future transcultural nursing education activities and the creation of training content. Design This study was a methodological systematic review study. Methods Methodological quality was assessed following the PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, Science Direct, APA PsycArticles, OVID, EBSCO, and Web of Science databases were searched from 2010 to 2020. The following keywords were used: “Transcultural nursing”, “education”, “curriculum”, “course”, “effectiveness”, “cultural competence”, “knowledge”, “skills”, “attitudes”, and “nursing students”. Studies published in peer-reviewed journals in English using both experimental and quasi-experimental designs were included. Results Total of 11 research papers, (n = 1375) nursing students’ outputs were included in this review. Cultural competence interventions/programs were provided as part of the core theoretical courses or as elective courses. Different durations and types of teaching methods included debates, discussions, case scenarios, practicums, simulation, international learning projects, experiential learning, storytelling, and traditional teaching lectures. In ten studies, an increase in the level of culture-related competences was reported as statistically significant (p Conclusions Limited studies have generally proven the effectiveness of transcultural nursing education provided to nursing students. Education content, training methods and training periods were not standard in the literature. More comprehensive, valid and reliable measurement tools are needed to evaluate the education provided for nursing students.

Amaç: Cerrahi kliniklerde flebit prevalansını, etkileyen faktörlerive hemşirelerin periferik venöz kateter (PVK) ilişkili enfeksiyonlarınönlenmesi konusunda kanıta dayalı uygulamalara ilişkin bilgidüzeylerini belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Prospektif gözlemselve tanımlayıcı tipte tek günlük nokta prevalans çalışması, Ocak-Mart2019 tarihleri arasında bir eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinin yetişkin cerrahiservislerinde yatarak tedavi gören 103 hasta ve bu birimlerde çalışan159 hemşire ile yürütüldü. Verilerin toplanmasında katılımcılarıntanıtıcı özelliklerine ilişkin soru formu, PVK ilişkili flebit değerlendirmeformu, flebit tanılama skalası ile PVK ilişkili enfeksiyonları önlemeyeyönelik soru formu kullanıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların yaşortalaması 51,17±19,60 yıl ve %59,2’si (n=61) erkektir. Hastaların%24,3’ünde (n=25) flebit semptomları geliştiği saptandı. İntravenözantibiyotik tedavisi alan (p=0,003), total parenteral beslenme solüsyonuverilen (p=0,001), aynı damara girişim sıklığı birden fazla olan(p=0,027) hastalarda flebit semptomları görülme sıklığı daha fazlaydı.Yaş ortalaması yüksek olan hastalarda (p=0,023) ve kateter takılma süresiortalaması daha uzun olanlarda (p=0,001) daha fazla flebit görüldü.Hemşirelerin yaş ortalaması 38,21±17,69 yıl ve çoğunluğu(%71,7, n=114) lisans mezunudur. Hemşirelerin PVK ilişkili enfeksiyonlarıönlemeye yönelik soru formu puan ortalaması 4,51±1,67olarak saptandı. Sonuç: Cerrahi kliniklerde tedavi gören PVK olanhastaların dörtte birinde flebit semptomları geliştiği, hemşirelerinPVK ilişkili enfeksiyonların önlenmesinde kanıta dayalı uygulamalarkonusunda bilgi düzeylerinin düşük olduğu saptandı. Objective: To determine the phlebitis prevalence and affecting factors and the knowledge of nurses on evidence-based practices related to avoiding peripheric venous catheter (PVC) associated infections in surgical clinics. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional prospective observational point prevalence study was conducted in adult surgical wards of a training and research hospital, in June-March 2019. The sample consisted of 103 patients with peripheric venous catheter and 159 nurses working in surgical clinics. The data was collected by “Phlebitis Scale”, “Questionnaire for Avoiding Infections Associated with PVC” and data collection forms developed by researchers. Results: Mean age of patients was 51.17±19.60 years and 59.2% (n=61) were male. Phlebitis associated with peripheric venous catheter prevalence was 24.3% (n=25). Phlebitis frequency was higher in patients who were given intravenous antibiotics (p=0.003), who were given total parenteral nutrition solution (p=0.001), who had multiple interventions on the same vein (p=0.027). Phlebitis frequency was higher in patients with higher mean age (p=0.023) and patients who had longer mean catheterization time (p=0.001). Mean age of nurses was 38.21±17.69 years and the majority of them (71.7%, n=114) had bachelor’s degree. In assessment of knowledge of nurses on avoiding phlebitis, mean correct answer was 4.51±1.67 over 10 questions. Conclusion: It is found that in the surgical clinics one fourth of patients with PVC had phlebitis symptoms associated with PVC and the knowledge of nurses on evidence-based practices for avoiding PVC associated infections was not at desired levels.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada; yoğun bakım ünitesinde hastalara verilen değişik açılardaki (0˚ ve 45˚) yatak başı pozisyonlarının hemodinamik ölçümlere etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Bir iç hastalıkları yoğun bakım ünitesinde yarı deneysel olarak yapılan bu çalışmanın örneklemini santral venöz ve arteriyel kateteri takılmış, monitörize olan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 30 hasta oluşturmuştur. Veri toplama aşamasında; yoğun bakımda izlenen hastalara sırası ile 0˚ supine ve yatak başı 45˚ semifowler pozisyonu verilmiştir. Bu pozisyonlarda 0. dakika ve 10. dakikada hemodinamik ölçümler yapılmıştır. Hastaların sosyodemografik verileri, hastalık bilgileri, pozisyonları ve elde edilen hemodinamik ölçümler kayıt edilmiştir. Veriler SPSS for Windows 15.0 programı kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Tanımlayıcı istatistikler sayı, yüzde, ortalama ± standart sapma olarak ifade edilmiştir. Hastalara verilen pozisyonlar (0˚ve 45˚) sonrasında 1. ve 10. dk.’da elde edilen hemodinamik ölçüm değerleri incelendiğinde; CVP, sistolik, diastolik, ortalama arteriel basıncı ve kalp atım hızı ortalamalarının, yatak başı yüksekliklerinin değişiminden istatistiksel olarak etkilenmediği saptanmıştır (p > .05). Sonuç: Sonuç olarak; bazı hemodinamik ölçümlerin yatak başının 45˚’de olduğu seviyede, yatak başı 0˚ pozisyona getirilmeden güvenli olarak yapılabileceği değerlendirilmiştir., Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of bed head position (0˚ and 45˚) on hemodynamic parameters of patients in the ICU. Methods: This quasi experimental design study was conducted in the internal diseases intensive care unit of a training and research hospital. The sample of the study is comprised of 30 monitorized patients who have central venous and arterial catheter and volunteered to participate in the study. During data collection, patients in the ICU were examined first in supine position at angle of 0˚ and then in semifowler position at an angle of 45˚. Examination was performed one and ten minutes after the new position. Sociodemographic data, information about disease, positions and the hemodynamic parameters were documented. Data was analyzed with SPSS for Windows 15.0 program pack. Descriptive statistics were given in number, percentage, mean ± standard deviation. Man Whitney U Test was used to analyze the difference among the mean hemodynamic parameters. Results: Seventeen (56%) of the patients were women, and the mean age was 61.16 ± 15.85 years. In the comparison of hemodynamic parameters gathered at zero and tenth minutes of positioning at angles of 0˚ and 45˚; CVP, systolic, diastolic and mean arterial blood pressure and mean heart rate were not statistically affected by changes in the position (p > .05). Conclusion: As a result, it is suggested that some hemodynamic parameters can be examined safely at an angle of 45˚ instead of positioning the bed head at angle of 0˚.

Amaç:Bu çalışmanın amacı immünoterapi tedavisi alan kanser hastalarında ilaç inancı ve etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesiydi.Hastalar ve Yöntem:Tanımlayıcı tipteki bu çalışmanın örneklemini Aralık 2018-Mayıs 2019 tarihleri arasında bir eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinin tıbbi onkoloji kliniğine ayaktan başvuran, immünoterapi tedavisi alan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden hastalar (N=85) oluşturdu. Verilerin toplanmasında hasta tanıtıcı bilgi formu ve İlaçlar Hakkında İnançlar Anketi kullanıldı. Veriler bilgisayar ortamında SPSS for Windows 22.00 paket programında değerlendirildi. Verilerin normal dağılıma uygunluğu Shapiro-Wilk Testi ile değerlendirildi. p ≤ 0.05 istatistiksel olarak anlamlı kabul edildi.Bulgular:Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 58.80±14.23 yıl, %50.6’sı kadın, %56.5’i evre IV kanser hastasıydı ve %74.1’inin metastazı vardı. İmmünoterapinin yan etkilerinden etkilenen hastalar katılımcıların %54.1’ini oluşturdu. Yaşa göre İlaç İnanç Anketinin alt ölçek puan ortalamaları karşılaştırıldığında 65 yaş üzeri hastaların “Spesifik Endişe” puan ortalamalarının genç hastalara göre daha düşük olduğu saptandı (t=2.175, p=0.032). Metastaz varlığına göre alt ölçek puan ortalamaları karşılaştırıldığında, metastazı olan hastaların “spesifik gereklilik” alt ölçeğinden aldıkları puan ortalamalarının metastazı olmayanlara göre daha yüksek olduğu bulundu (z=-2.185, p=0.029). İlaçların yan etki oluşturmasına göre ilaç yan etkisi olan hastaların “Genel Aşırı Kullanım” ve “Genel Zarar” alt ölçeklerinden aldıkları puan ortalamalarının yan etki yaşamayan hastalara göre daha yüksek olduğu saptandı (sırasıyla; z=-2.599, p=0.009; z=-1.966, p=0.049).Sonuç:Sonuç olarak yaşlı kanser hastalarının immünoterapi ilaçları konusunda daha az endişe duyduğu, metastazı olan hastaların kullandıkları ilaçların gerekli olduğuna daha fazla inandığı, yan etki yaşayan hastaların yaşamayanlara göre genel zarar ve genel aşırı kullanım inançlarının daha yüksek olduğu değerlendirildi., Purpose:The aim of this study was to determine the beliefs about medications and the affecting factors in patients with cancer having immunotherapy treatment.Patients and Methods:The sample of this descriptive study consisted of patients (n = 85) who were admitted to the outpatient medical oncology clinic of an education and research hospital between December 2018-May 2019. Data were collected using the patient information form and the Beliefs about Medications Questionnaire. Data were analysed by SPSS for Windows 22.00 package program. p ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:The mean age of the participants was 58.80±14.23 years, 50.6% were female, 56.5% had stage IV cancer and 74.1% had metastasis. More than half of the patients (54.1%) experienced adverse effects of immunotherapy. It was found that the “Specific Concern” subscale scores of the patients over 65 years were lower than the younger patients (t = 2.175, p = 0.032). The mean “Specific Necessity” subscale scores of the patients with metastasis were higher than those without metastasis (z = -2.185, p = 0.029). It was found that the mean “General Harm” and “General Overuse” subscale scores of the patients who had adverse effects were higher than the patients who did not experience adverse effects (z = -1.966, p = 0.049; z = -2.599, p = 0.009, respectively).Conclusion:Elderly patients with cancer were less concerned about immunotherapy, patients with metastasis believed that immunotherapy medications were necessary, and patients who had adverse effects during immunotherapy treatment believed that medications were harmful and overused.
