The interrelation between Periodontal Disease (PD) and Renal Insufficiency Chronic (RIC) is unavoidable, as patients with RIC have intrabuccal characteristics that predispose and / or aggravate PD such as: xerostomia, periodontitis, bone resorption, dental calculus and large accumulation of dental biofilm. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of PD in patients with RIC admitted to a public ICU in Manaus / AM. All in patients who had at least 6 teeth, one per sextant, were eligible to participate in this study. The Simplified Periodontal Examination was performed by measuring the depth of the probe to detect the periodontal pocket at 3 sites: mediovestibular, mesiovestibular and distovestibular. Of the 30 patients included in the analysis, 63.3% were male, twenty-eight (93.3%) had periodontal disease, while only two (6.7%) had a healthy periodontium. A generalized form of periodontitis was seen in 21 patients (75%). And taking into account the severity of periodontitis, only 8 of the patients (28.6%) had a mild degree of the disease. It was concluded that, in this sample, the prevalence of PD in patients with RIC admitted to the ICU is high, with a predominance of a generalized form of periodontitis. Thus, RIC does not seem to be in itself the only triggering factor for the high mortality rates that affect patients admitted to the ICU, which proves the importance and need of the dentist in a multidisciplinary team in a hospital environment. La interrelación entre Enfermedad Periodontal (EP) e Insuficiencia Renal Crónica (IRC) es inevitable, ya que los pacientes con IRC tienen características intraorales que predisponen y / o agravan la EP, como xerostomía, periodontitis, resorción ósea, cálculos dentales y gran acumulación de biofilm dental. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la prevalencia de EP en pacientes con ERC ingresados ​​en una UCI pública en Manaus / AM. Todos los pacientes hospitalizados que tenían al menos 6 dientes, uno por sextante, fueron elegibles para participar en este estudio. El examen periodontal simplificado se realizó midiendo la profundidad de sondaje para la detección de bolsas periodontales en 3 puntos: vestibular medio, mesiobucal y distobucal. De los 30 pacientes incluidos en el análisis, el 63,3% eran hombres, veintiocho (93,3%) tenían enfermedad periodontal, mientras que solo dos (6,7%) tenían un periodonto sano. Se observó una forma generalizada de periodontitis en 21 pacientes (75%). Y teniendo en cuenta la gravedad de la periodontitis, solo 8 de los pacientes (28,6%) tenían enfermedad leve. Se concluye que, en esta muestra, la prevalencia de EP en pacientes con IRC ingresados ​​en la UCI analizada es alta, con predominio de una forma generalizada de periodontitis. Así, la IRC por sí sola no parece ser el único factor desencadenante de las altas tasas de mortalidad que afectan a los pacientes ingresados ​​en UCI, lo que demuestra la importancia y necesidad de contar con odontólogos en un equipo multidisciplinar en el ámbito Hospitalar. O Exame Periodontal Simplificado foi realizado através da medida da profundidade de sondagem para detecção de bolsa periodontal em 3 pontos: médio vestibular, mesio vestibular e disto vestibular. Dos 30 pacientes incluídos na análise, 63,3% eram do gênero masculino, vinte e oito (93,3%) apresentavam doença periodontal, enquanto apenas dois (6,7%) tinham o periodonto saudável. Uma forma generalizada de periodontite foi observada em 21 pacientes (75%). E levando-se em consideração a severidade da periodontite, apenas 8 dos pacientes (28,6%) tinham o grau leve da doença. Concluiu-se que, nesta amostra, a prevalência da DP em pacientes com IRC internados na UTI analisada é elevada, com predominância de uma forma generalizada de periodontite. Desta forma, a IRC parece não ser por si só, o único fator desencadeante das altas taxas de mortalidade que acometem os pacientes internados em UTI, o que comprova a importância e necessidade do cirurgião-dentista em equipe multiprofissional em ambiente hospitalar.

Health courses have invested in critical-reflective training models based on innovations in the teaching-learning process, which are sufficient to contribute to changes in work processes. The internalization of health training gave rise to specialization courses and nursing residency programs, which can present difficulties for effective implementation, and the valorization of professionals in the service network who act as preceptors. In this way, evaluations of the teaching-service integration processes may be necessary for the objectives of the programs to be achieved. Therefore, this research aimed to understand the residents' view regarding the implementation of the Obstetric Nursing Residency Program (PREO) in the interior of the State of Pernambuco (PE). It is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, whose unit of analysis was the ONRP located in three regional maternity hospitals in the interior of PE. The survey was carried out from July to August 2019. Interviews were conducted with fifteen residents of the program. The responses were recorded and transcribed in full, being submitted to Bardin's content analysis method, with detailed readings and then categorized with support from the Atlas.ti program. Subsequently, the two analyzes were compared to define the analysis categories. 100% of residents were interviewed, who revealed the following weaknesses: in communication, in the organization of the program, in the theoretical part, in the preparation of hospitals, in the lack of engagement of many preceptors, in the integration of teaching and service and that the geographical distance can also hinder this integration. As strengths of the program, the following stood out: differentiated training, personal and professional growth through practical activities, and incentives for the learning scenario. In terms of the teaching-learning process, according to the residents, development depends on each one of them and it is important to be influenced by activities interspersed between the theoretical-practical model and the preceptor. With regard to continuing education and training to become a tutor, it was not conclusive. The PRICE was rated by residents as positive, as it brought several benefits to all the actors involved. Theoretical activities were not satisfactory because, according to the residents, probably due to the fact that the preceptors do not master the use of active methodologies for the construction of the teaching-learning process. Finally, the weakness in communication between teaching and service can influence the education of the resident, with the preceptor being an important actor in this process. The study is not conclusive as to the solidity of the training of preceptorship, which suggests the development of new research that evaluates other actors, such as preceptors and managers. Therefore, the research result was sent both to the hospital and to the coordination of the residency program. Then, a planning workshop was held in order to strengthen the teaching-service integration, which was attended by preceptors, coordinators of the Residency Program and the coordinator of the Hospital's Permanent Education Center, whose action culminated in a productive moment. a lot of interaction and construction of teaching- service integration planning. The report of that moment, with all the suggestions, was sent to the hospital and to the coordination of the Nursing Program. Os cursos na saúde têm investido em modelos de formação crítico-reflexiva apoiados em inovações no processo ensino-aprendizagem, que sejam suficientes para contribuir com mudanças nos processos de trabalho. A interiorização da formação em saúde deu origem a cursos de especialização e programas de residência em enfermagem, que podem apresentar dificuldades para a efetiva implementação, e valorização dos profissionais da rede de serviços que atuam como preceptores. Desta forma, as avaliações dos processos de integração ensino-serviço podem ser necessárias para que os objetivos dos programas sejam alcançados. Logo, esta pesquisa objetivou compreender a visão dos residentes quanto à implementação do Programa de Residência em Enfermagem Obstétrica (PREO) no interior do Estado de Pernambuco (PE). Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, descritivo e exploratório, que teve como unidade de análise o PREO situado em três maternidades regionais do interior de PE. A pesquisa foi realizada no período de julho a agosto de 2019. Foram realizadas entrevistas com quinze residentes do programa. As respostas foram gravadas e transcritas na íntegra, sendo submetidas ao método de análise de conteúdo de Bardin, com leituras minuciosas e, em seguida, categorizadas com suporte do programa Atlas.ti. Posteriormente, as duas análises foram comparadas para definição das categorias de análise. Foram entrevistados 100% dos residentes, que revelaram as seguintes fragilidades: na comunicação, na organização do programa, na parte teórica, no preparo dos hospitais, na falta de engajamento de muitos preceptores, na integração ensino-serviço e que a distância geográfica também pode dificultar essa integração. Como fortalezas do programa, destacaram- se: formação diferenciada, crescimento pessoal e profissional através das atividades práticas, e os incentivos para o cenário de aprendizagem. Em se tratando do processo de ensino-aprendizagem, de acordo com os residentes, o desenvolvimento depende de cada um deles e que é importante ser influenciado por atividades intercaladas entre o modelo teórico-prático e o preceptor. Com relação à educação permanente e à formação para se tornar preceptor, não foi conclusivo. O PREO foi avaliado pelos residentes como positivo, pois trouxe vários benefícios para todos os atores envolvidos. As atividades teóricas não foram satisfatórias, segundo os residentes, provavelmente, devido ao fato de os preceptores não dominarem a utilização das metodologias ativas para a construção do processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Por fim, a fragilidade na comunicação entre ensino-serviço pode influenciar na formação do residente, sendo o preceptor um ator importante nesse processo. O estudo não é conclusivo quanto à solidez da formação da preceptoria, o que sugere o desenvolvimento de novas pesquisas que avaliem outros atores, como os preceptores e gestores. Diante disso, o resultado da pesquisa foi enviado tanto para o hospital quanto para a coordenação do programa de residência. Em seguida, foi realizado uma oficina sobre planejamento com o intuito de fortalecer a integração ensino-serviço, a qual teve participação de preceptores, coordenadores do Programa de Residência e a coordenadora do Núcleo de Educação Permanente do hospital, cuja ação culminou em um momento produtivo de muita interação e construção de planejamento de integração ensino-serviço. O relatório desse momento, com todas as sugestões, foi enviado ao hospital e à coordenação do Programa de Enfermagem.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II - Hunter syndrome) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency in the enzyme iduronate-2 sulfatase (I2S), leading to the accumulation of the glycosaminoglycans, affecting multiple organs and systems. Enzyme replacement therapy does not cross the blood brain barrier, limiting results in neurological forms of the disease. Another option of treatment for severe MPS, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has become the treatment of choice for the severe form of MPS type I, since it can preserve neurocognition when performed early in the course of the disease. To date, only few studies have examined the long-term outcomes of HSCT in patients with MPS II. We describe the seven-year follow-up of a prenatally diagnosed MPS II boy with positive family history of severe MPS form, submitted to HSCT with umbilical cord blood cells at 70 days of age. Engraftment after 30 days revealed mixed chimerism with 79% donor cells; after 7 years engraftment remains at 80%. I2S activity 30 days post-transplant was low in plasma and normal in leukocytes and the same pattern is observed to date. At age 7 years growth charts are normal and he is very healthy, although mild signs of dysostosis multiplex are present, as well as hearing loss. The neuropsychological evaluation (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fourth Edition - WISC-IV), disclosed an IQ of 47. Despite this low measured IQ, the patient continues to show improvements in cognitive, language and motor skills, being quite functional. We believe that HSCT is a therapeutic option for MPS II patients with the severe phenotype, as it could preserve neurocognition or even halt neurodegeneration, provided strict selection criteria are followed.

Fully understanding the role of biofuels on agricultural markets requires accounting for the response of all affected inputs and outputs. Previous studies have generally forced the amount of cultivated land to remain fixed regardless of price change. This study overcomes this limitation by setting alternative growth rates in farmland expansion within a general equilibrium model with a focus on agricultural and energy markets. Simulation of the model under alternative biofuel policies and market conditions reveals that a fuller utilization of available land resources significantly reduces the rise in feedstock prices brought about by biofuel policies and/or higher energy prices.
