1. The Exploration of the Holistic and Complex Impacts of Creative Dance on Creative Potential Enhancement

Abstract

Interest in nurturing individuals' creative potential is rising. Yet, the potential benefits of incorporating creative embodied activities have been neglected in both applied and research settings. To address this gap, this study examined the effects of a Creative Dance program on university students' creative self-efficacy, emotional creativity, tolerance to ambiguity, and ideation behaviors. A total of 143 undergraduate students participated, either in the Creative Dance intervention or a sport-based control group for 15 weeks. A mixed-method approach using questionnaires and focus groups was adopted. Linear mixed effects models showed that engaging in Creative Dance had a significant effect on ideational behaviors and tolerance to ambiguity. Specifically, students in the intervention condition improved their ideational behaviors and remained stable in their tolerance to ambiguity compared to student in the control condition who remained stable and regressed on those variables respectively. Focus group results highlighted the social effects of the intervention, which help to contextualize the quantitative findings. This study underscores the importance of integrating creative embodied activities to foster individuals' creative potential while highlighting the need to develop comprehensive assessment tools to capture the dynamic interplay between individuals and their environment throughout this process.

El control de los pequeños estróngilos de los equinos (grupo Ciatostoma) se basa casi exclusivamente en la aplicación de antihelmínticos. En nuestro país, el desarrollo de resistencia generalizada a los bencimidazoles, está limitando las alternativas químicas disponibles a las lactonas macrocíclicas (ivermectina y moxidectina) y al pirantel, consideradas como drogas de larga y corta acción respectivamente. La información actualizada sobre la actividad de estas drogas en el campo es crítica para determinar su eficacia y detectar el desarrollo de fenómenos de resistencia a los antihelmínticos. En los equinos el período de reaparición de huevos (PRH) luego del tratamiento es considerado como un indicador temprano de la presencia de resistencia. En el presente trabajo se evaluó la eficacia clínica y el PRH luego de tratamientos con moxidectina y pirantel en equinos adultos de cinco establecimientos de las provincias de Santa Fe y Córdoba naturalmente parasitados por pequeños estróngilos. La eficacia clínica determinada al día 15 pos tratamiento utilizando un test de reducción en el conteo de huevos, osciló entre el 99,8 y el 100% para la moxidectina y entre el 98,9 y el 98,8% para el pirantel. Por su parte en el presente estudio el PRH fue de al menos 100 días para la moxidectina y de 35 días para el pirantel. Estos resultados indican que ambas drogas se muestran activas para el control de estos nematodes y que las poblaciones estudiadas (alguna de ellas resistentes a bencimidazoles) permanecen actualmente susceptibles a la moxidectina así como al pirantel. Esta última droga es de uso limitado en nuestro país, pero su inclusión en los programas de control contra los pequeños estróngilos podría reducir la dependencia y la presión de selección sobre las lactonas macrocíclicas y contribuir a mantener la vida útil de las mismas. SUMMARY. Small strongyles in horses. Clinical efficacy and egg reappearance period after moxidectin and pyrantel treatment. The control of the small strongyles (Ciathostoma group) in horses is based on the application of anthelmintics. In our country, the development of generalized resistance to benzimidazoles is limiting the chemical alternatives available to macrocyclic lactones (ivermectin and moxidectin) and to pyrantel, considered as long-acting and short-acting drugs respectively. Updated information on the activity of these drugs in the field, is critical for determining its efficacy and detecting the development of anthelmintic resistance. In these horse nematodes the period of egg reappearance (ERP) after treatment is considered as an early indicator of the presence of resistance. The present study evaluated the clinical efficacy and ERP after moxidectin and pirantel treatments in adult horses naturally parasitized by small strongyles from five farms from Santa Fe and Córdoba provinces. Clinical efficacy determined at day 14 or 15 post treatment using a test of reduction in the egg count ranged from 98.9 to 98.8% for the pirantel and 99.8 to 100% for moxidectin. The ERP was at least 100 days for moxidectin and 35 days for the pirantel. These results indicate that both drugs are active for the control of these nematodes and that the populations studied (some of them resistant to benzimidazoles) remain currently susceptible to moxidectin as well as to pyrantel. This last drug is of limited use in Argentina, but its inclusion in the control programs against the small strongyls could reduce the dependence and the selection pressure on the macrocyclic lactones and contribute to maintain the useful life of the same ones.

El monepantel es un nuevo antihelmíntico registrado en nuestro país exclusivamente para el control de los nematodes gastrointestinales de los ovinos y su uso ha sido direccionado mayormente hacia el control de parásitos resistentes a las clases de antihelmínticos disponibles actualmente. Estos mismos nematodes también parasitan a los caprinos, pero en estos rumiantes la pato-fisiología y la respuesta a los antihelmínticos es diferente, lo cual resulta en un mayor parasitismo y complejidad en el manejo de la resistencia. La presente comunicación informa sobre la eficacia del monepantel en dos hatos caprinos mantenidos bajo condiciones de campo y parasitados naturalmente por los géneros de nematodes gastrointestinales más comunes del área central de la Argentina (Haemonchus y Trichostrongylus) y portando alelos de resistencia múltiple (ivermectina y febendazole). El test de reducción en el conteo de huevos post tratamiento comparando diversas fórmulas, indicaron que en todos los hatos el monepantel por vía oral y a la dosis de 3,75 mg/kg de peso (1,5 veces mayor a la dosis ovina), resultó en eficacias del 99% al 100 %. Se realizan breves consideraciones sobre el uso potencial de esta droga en caprinos. SUMMARY. Monepantel effectiveness against Haemonchus contortus and Trichostrongylus spp. with multiple resistance (ivermectin and febendazole) in goats. Monepantel is a new anthelmintic registered in Argentina exclusively for control of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep and mostly directed toward controlling resistant parasites to current available classes of anthelmintics. The same nematodes also parasitize goats but pathophysiology and response are different in these hosts resulting in more severe parasitism and complexity in handling anthelmintic resistance. This report assess the efficacy of monepantel in goats maintained under field conditions and naturally parasitized by most common gastrointestinal nematodes from central Argentina (Haemonchus and Trichostrongylus) carrying alleles of multiple resistance (ivermectin and febendazole). According to the egg count reduction test, efficacies of 99% to 100% were observed after monepantel treatment at 3.75 mg/kg orally (1.5 ovine dose).

La resistencia de los nematodes ovinos a los antihelmínticos está generalizada en el centro-norte de la Argentina y la mayor preocupación actual es el aumento y dispersión de Haemonchus contortus portando alelos con resistencia múltiple. Actualmente los únicos antihelmínticos de amplio espectro sin documentación de resistencia en nuestro país son el monepantel y derquantel. Con la primera de estas drogas ya se han registrado casos de resistencia en Uruguay y Brasil por lo que es crítica la información actualizada sobre la actividad en el campo de estos antihelmínticos. Este estudio informa sobre la eficacia del monepantel luego de cuatro años de uso de esta droga sobre un aislamiento de H. contortus con resistencia múltiple (lactonas macrociclicas, closantel, levamisol y benzimidazoles) y bajo condiciones de refugio reducido. Se realizaron dos experiencias A y B (años 2014 y 2016 respectivamente) con corderos naturalmente parasitados y seleccionados en función del número de huevos por gramo de heces (≥ 250) los que fueron tratados con monepantel (2,5 mg/Kg oral). El test de reducción en el conteo de huevos post tratamiento comparando diversas fórmulas indicó que en ambas experiencias, la droga mantuvo una eficacia mayor al 97 % y que permanece activa para controlar este aislamiento de H. contortus luego de cuatro años de uso y bajo las particulares condiciones en las que se realizaron estos estudios. Resistance to anthelmintics in sheep nematode is widespread in central-northern Argentina and current major concern is the rise and spread of Haemonchus contortus carrying multiple resistance alleles. Currently, monepantel and derquantel are the only broad-spectrum anthelmintics without documentation of resistance in our country. With the first of these drugs, have already been registered cases of resistance in Uruguay and Brazil so it is critical update on the activity in the field of these anthelmintics. This study aims to test the effectiveness of monepantel after four years of use of this drug on an isolation of H. contortus with multiple resistance (macrocyclic lactones, closantel, levamisole and benzimidazole) and under conditions of reduced refugia. Two experiences, A and B (2014 and 2016 respectively), were carried out with lambs naturally parasitized and selected by the number of eggs per gram of feces (≥ 250). In both experiences, the test of reduction in egg counts after treatment with monepantel (2.5 mgr/Kg orally) comparing various formulas indicated that the drug remained with efficacy greater than 97% after four years of use to control this isolation of H. contortus under the field conditions of these studies

Abstract

Invariances in neural networks are useful and necessary for many tasks. However, the representation of the invariance of most neural network models has not been characterized. We propose measures to quantify the invariance of neural networks in terms of their internal representation. The measures are efficient and interpretable, and can be applied to any neural network model. They are also more sensitive to invariance than previously defined measures. We validate the measures and their properties in the domain of affine transformations and the CIFAR10 and MNIST datasets, including their stability and interpretability. Using the measures, we perform a first analysis of CNN models and show that their internal invariance is remarkably stable to random weight initializations, but not to changes in dataset or transformation. We believe the measures will enable new avenues of research in invariance representation.

Abstract

The use of large-scale supercomputing architectures is a hard requirement for scientific computing Big-Data applications. An example is genomics analytics, where millions of data transformations and tests per patient need to be done to find relevant clinical indicators. Therefore, to ensure open and broad access to high-performance technologies, governments, and academia are pushing toward the introduction of novel computing architectures in large-scale scientific environments. This is the case of RISC-V, an open-source and royalty-free instruction-set architecture. To evaluate such technologies, here we present the Variant-Interaction Analytics use case benchmarking suite and datasets. Through this use case, we search for possible genetic interactions using computational and statistical methods, providing a representative case for heavy ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) data processing. Current implementations are implemented in x86-based supercomputers (e.g. MareNostrum-IV at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC)), and future steps propose RISC-V as part of the next MareNostrum generations. Here we describe the Variant Interaction Use Case, highlighting the characteristics leveraging high-performance computing, indicating the caveats and challenges towards the next RISC-V developments and designs to come from a first comparison between x86 and RISC-V architectures on real Variant Interaction executions over real hardware implementations.

16. Selective social interactions and speed-induced leadership in schooling fish

Abstract

Animals moving together in groups are believed to interact among each other with effective social forces, such as attraction, repulsion and alignment. Such forces can be inferred using 'force maps', i.e. by analysing the dependency of the acceleration of a focal individual on relevant variables. Here we introduce a force map technique suitable for the analysis of the alignment forces experienced by individuals. After validating it using an agent-based model, we apply the force map to experimental data of schooling fish. We observe signatures of an effective alignment force with faster neighbours, and an unexpected anti-alignment with slower neighbours. Instead of an explicit anti-alignment behaviour, we suggest that the observed pattern is the result of a selective attention mechanism, where fish pay less attention to slower neighbours. This mechanism implies the existence of temporal leadership interactions based on relative speeds between neighbours. Abstract

The purpose of the article is the legal analysis of the evolution of rights to sexual and reproductive health and the jurisdictions of the central government and the autonomous communities in this matter. It has three sections and conclusions. First, it traces a historical journey, from the appearance of these rights to their recognition by the United Nations, and the evolution of these rights in the Spanish legal system, from their configuration as crimes in the penal code to their recognition by the Constitutional Court and Organic Laws 2/2010 and 1/2023. Secondly, the article analyses the distribution of powers between Spain’s central government and the Catalan Government in matters of health and gender policies and the impact of the jurisdiction of the central government based on Article 149.1.1 of the Spanish Constitution. In conclusion, the article underlines the need for a restrictive interpretation of this precept under the prism of self-restraint and proportionality, in order to avoid undermining the powers of the Catalan Government.

Abstract

Most artificial intelligence (AI) research have concentrated in high-income countries, where imaging data, IT infrastructures and clinical expertise are plentiful. However, slower progress has been made in limited-resource environments where medical imaging is needed. For example, in Sub-Saharan Africa the rate of perinatal mortality is very high due to limited access to antenatal screening. In these countries, AI models could be implemented to help clinicians acquire fetal ultrasound planes for diagnosis of fetal abnormalities. So far, deep learning models have been proposed to identify standard fetal planes, but there is no evidence of their ability to generalise in centres with limited access to high-end ultrasound equipment and data. This work investigates different strategies to reduce the domain-shift effect for a fetal plane classification model trained on a high-resource clinical centre and transferred to a new low-resource centre. To that end, a classifier trained with 1,792 patients from Spain is first evaluated on a new centre in Denmark in optimal conditions with 1,008 patients and is later optimised to reach the same performance in five African centres (Egypt, Algeria, Uganda, Ghana and Malawi) with 25 patients each. The results show that a transfer learning approach can be a solution to integrate small-size African samples with existing large-scale databases in developed countries. In particular, the model can be re-aligned and optimised to boost the performance on African populations by increasing the recall to $0.92\pm0.04$ and at the same time maintaining a high precision across centres. This framework shows promise for building new AI models generalisable across clinical centres with limited data acquired in challenging and heterogeneous conditions and calls for further research to develop new solutions for usability of AI in countries with less resources., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in Scientific Reports

Abstract

Behavioral contagion and the presence of behavioral cascades are natural features in groups of animals showing collective motion, such as schooling fish or grazing herbivores. Here we study empirical behavioral cascades observed in fish schools defined as avalanches of consecutive large changes in the heading direction of the trajectory of fish. In terms of a minimum turning angle introduced to define a large change, avalanches are characterized by distributions of size and duration showing scale-free signatures, reminiscent of self-organized critical behavior. We observe that avalanches are generally triggered by a small number of fish, which act as effective leaders that induce large rearrangements of the group's trajectory. Abstract

Summary: Background: The clinical relevance of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) after discontinuing anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19-associated VTE remains uncertain. We estimated the incidence rates and mortality of VTE recurrences developing after discontinuing anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19-associated VTE. Methods: A prospective, multicenter, non-interventional study was conducted between March 25, 2020, and July 26, 2023, including patients who had discontinued anticoagulation after at least 3 months of therapy. All patients from the registry were analyzed during the study period to verify inclusion criteria. Patients with superficial vein thrombosis, those who did not receive at least 3 months of anticoagulant therapy, and those who were followed for less than 15 days after discontinuing anticoagulation were excluded. Outcomes were: 1) Incidence rates of symptomatic VTE recurrences, and 2) fatal PE. The rate of VTE recurrences was defined as the number of patients with recurrent VTE divided by the patient-years at risk of recurrent VTE during the period when anticoagulation was discontinued. Findings: Among 1106 patients with COVID-19-associated VTE (age 62.3 ± 14.4 years; 62.9% male) followed-up for 12.5 months (p25-75, 6.3–20.1) after discontinuing anticoagulation, there were 38 VTE recurrences (3.5%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.5–4.7%), with a rate of 3.1 per 100 patient-years (95% CI: 2.2–4.2). No patient died of recurrent PE (0%, 95% CI: 0–7.6%). Subgroup analyses showed that patients with diagnosis in 2021–2022 (vs. 2020) (Hazard ratio [HR] 2.86; 95% CI 1.45–5.68) or those with isolated deep vein thrombosis (vs. pulmonary embolism) (HR 2.31; 95% CI 1.19–4.49) had significantly higher rates of VTE recurrences. Interpretation: In patients with COVID-19-associated VTE who discontinued anticoagulation after at least 3 months of treatment, the incidence rate of recurrent VTE and the case-fatality rate was low. Therefore, it conceivable that long-term anticoagulation may not be required for many patients with COVID-19-associated VTE, although further research is needed to confirm these findings. Abstract

Biofilm formation by the pathobiont Haemophilus influenzae is associated with human nasopharynx colonization, otitis media in children, and chronic respiratory infections in adults suffering from chronic respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). β-lactam and quinolone antibiotics are commonly used to treat these infections. However, considering the resistance of biofilm-resident bacteria to antibiotic-mediated killing, the use of antibiotics may be insufficient and require being replaced or complemented with novel strategies. Moreover, unlike the standard minimal inhibitory concentration assay used to assess antibacterial activity against planktonic cells, standardization of methods to evaluate anti-biofilm drug activity is limited. In this work, we detail a panel of protocols for systematic analysis of drug antimicrobial effect on bacterial biofilms, customized to evaluate drug effects against H. influenzae biofilms. Testing of two cinnamaldehyde analogs, (E)-trans-2-nonenal and (E)-3-decen-2-one, demonstrated their effectiveness in both H. influenzae inhibition of biofilm formation and eradication or preformed biofilms. Assay complementarity allowed quantifying the dynamics and extent of the inhibitory effects, also observed for ampicillin resistant clinical strains forming biofilms refractory to this antibiotic. Moreover, cinnamaldehyde analog encapsulation into poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) polymeric nanoparticles allowed drug vehiculization while maintaining efficacy. Overall, we demonstrate the usefulness of cinnamaldehyde analogs against H. influenzae biofilms, present a test panel that can be easily adapted to a wide range of pathogens and drugs, and highlight the benefits of drug nanoencapsulation towards safe controlled release.

Abstract

This work presents experimental data and modelling of the release of Mo from high-burnup spent nuclear fuel (63 MWd/kgU) at two different pH values, 8.4 and 13.2 in air. The release of Mo from SF to the solution is around two orders of magnitude higher at pH = 13.2 than at pH = 8.4. The high Mo release at high pH would indicate that Mo would not be congruently released with uranium and would have an important contribution to the Instant Release Fraction, with a value of 5.3%.Parallel experiments with pure non irradiated Mo(s) and XPS determinations indicated that the faster dissolution at pH = 13.2 could be the consequence of the higher releases from metallic Mo in the fuel through a surface complexation mechanism promoted by the OH− and the oxidation of the metal to Mo(VI) via the formation of intermediate Mo(IV) and Mo(V) species.

Abstract

Fluorescent proteins, such as green fluorescent proteins, are invaluable tools for detecting and quantifying gene expression in high-throughput reporter gene assays. However, they introduce significant inaccuracies in studies involving microaerobiosis or anaerobiosis, as oxygen is required for the maturation of these proteins' chromophores. In this study, the authors highlight the errors incurred by using fluorescent proteins under limited oxygenation by comparing standard fluorescence-based reporter gene assays to quantitative real-time PCR data in the study of a complex oxygen-regulated gene network. Furthermore, a solution to perform quantification of anaerobic and microaerobic gene expression with fluorescent reporter proteins using a microplate reader with an oxygen control system and applying pulses of full oxygenation before fluorescence measurements is provided.

Abstract

We address the origins of the quasi-periodic breathing observed in [Phys. Rev.\ X vol. 9, 021035 (2019)] in disk-shaped harmonically trapped two-dimensional Bose condensates, where the quasi-period $T_{\text{quasi-breathing}}\sim$~$2T/7$ and $T$ is the period of the harmonic trap. We show that, due to an unexplained coincidence, the first instance of the collapse of the hydrodynamic description, at $t^{*} = \arctan(\sqrt{2})/(2\pi) T \approx T/7$, emerges as a `skillful impostor' of the quasi-breathing half-period $T_{\text{quasi-breathing}}/2$. At the time $t^{*}$, the velocity field almost vanishes, supporting the requisite time-reversal invariance. We find that this phenomenon persists for scale-invariant gases in all spatial dimensions, being exact in one dimension and, likely, approximate in all others. In $d$ dimensions, the quasi-breathing half-period assumes the form $T_{\text{quasi-breathing}}/2 \equiv t^{*} = \arctan(\sqrt{d})/(2\pi) T$. Abstract

Even though citizen and patient engagement in health research has a long tradition, citizen science in health has only recently gained attention and recognition. However, at present, there is no clear overview of the specifics and challenges of citizen science initiatives in the health domain. Such an overview could contribute to highlighting and articulating the different needs of stakeholders engaged in any form of citizen science in the health domain. It may also encourage the input of citizens and patients alike in health research and innovation, policy, and practice. This paper reports on a survey developed by the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA)’s Working Group “Citizen Science for Health,” to highlight the perceived characteristics and enabling factors of citizen science in the health domain, and to formulate a direction for future work and research. The survey was available in six languages and was open between January and August 2022. The majority of the 254 respondents were from European countries, and the largest stakeholder respondent group was researchers. Respondents were asked about their perspectives on the particular characteristics of citizen science performed in health and biomedical research, as well as the challenges and opportunities it affords. Ethics, the complexity of the health domain, and the overlap in roles whereby the researcher is sometimes also the subject of research, were the main issues suggested as being specific to citizen science in health. The top two areas that respondents identified as in need of development were “balanced return on investment” and “ethics.” This publication discusses these and other conditions with references to current literature.

Abstract

The recently proposed map [arXiv:2011.01415] between the hydrodynamic equations governing the two-dimensional triangular cold-bosonic breathers [Phys. Rev. X 9, 021035 (2019)] and the high-density zero-temperature triangular free-fermionic clouds, both trapped harmonically, perfectly explains the former phenomenon but leaves uninterpreted the nature of the initial ($t=0$) singularity. This singularity is a density discontinuity that leads, in the bosonic case, to an infinite force at the cloud edge. The map itself becomes invalid at times $t<0$. A similar singularity appears at $t = T/4$, where $T$ is the period of the harmonic trap, with the Fermi-Bose map becoming invalid at $t > T/4$. Here, we first map -- using the scale invariance of the problem -- the trapped motion to an untrapped one. Then we show that in the new representation, the solution [arXiv:2011.01415] becomes, along a ray in the direction normal to one of the three edges of the initial cloud, a freely propagating one-dimensional shock wave of a class proposed by Damski in [Phys.~Rev.~A 69, 043610 (2004)]. There, for a broad class of initial conditions, the one-dimensional hydrodynamic equations can be mapped to the inviscid Burgers' equation, which is equivalent to a nonlinear transport equation. More specifically, under the Damski map, the $t=0$ singularity of the original problem becomes, verbatim, the initial condition for the wave catastrophe solution found by Chandrasekhar in 1943 [Ballistic Research Laboratory Report No. 423 (1943)]. At $t=T/8$, our interpretation ceases to exist: at this instance, all three effectively one-dimensional shock waves emanating from each of the three sides of the initial triangle collide at the origin, and the 2D-1D correspondence between the solution of [arXiv:2011.01415] and the Damski-Chandrasekhar shock wave becomes invalid., Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures. Abstract

ObjectivesTo describe mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in the treatment of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) complications and to assess its safety and efficacy.MethodsSingle-center retrospective study (2016–2023). Patients under 20 years who received MSCs for the treatment of HSCT-related complications were included.ResultsThirty patients (53.7% boys), median age at transplant 11 years (range 2–19) were included. MSCs indications were: graft-vs.-host disease (GVHD) in 18 patients (60%), of them 13 had acute GVHD (43.3%) and 5 chronic GVHD (16.7%); Grade 3–4 hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) in 4 (13.3%); poor graft function (PGF) in 6 (20%), 5 of them receiving MSCs with a CD34 stem cell-boost coinfusion; graft failure (GF) in 2 (6.7%), to enhance engraftment after a subsequent HSCT. Infusion-related-adverse-events were not reported. Overall response (OR) was 83% (25/30); 44% of responders (11/25) showed complete response (CR). OR for GVHD, HC, PGF and GF was 83.3%, 100%, 66.7% and 100% respectively. Response rate was 40% (95% CI: 20–55) and 79% (95% CI: 57–89) at 15 and 30 days. With a median follow-up of 21 months (IQR11–52.5), overall survival (OS) was 86% (95% CI: 74–100) and 79% (95% CI: 65–95) at 6 and 12 months post-MSCs infusion.ConclusionIn our study, the most frequent indication of MSCs was refractory aGVHD (43.3%). Response rates were high (OR 83%) and safety profile was good.

Abstract

In this work, we propose MixMOOD - a systematic approach to mitigate effect of class distribution mismatch in semi-supervised deep learning (SSDL) with MixMatch. This work is divided into two components: (i) an extensive out of distribution (OOD) ablation test bed for SSDL and (ii) a quantitative unlabelled dataset selection heuristic referred to as MixMOOD. In the first part, we analyze the sensitivity of MixMatch accuracy under 90 different distribution mismatch scenarios across three multi-class classification tasks. These are designed to systematically understand how OOD unlabelled data affects MixMatch performance. In the second part, we propose an efficient and effective method, called deep dataset dissimilarity measures (DeDiMs), to compare labelled and unlabelled datasets. The proposed DeDiMs are quick to evaluate and model agnostic. They use the feature space of a generic Wide-ResNet and can be applied prior to learning. Our test results reveal that supposed semantic similarity between labelled and unlabelled data is not a good heuristic for unlabelled data selection. In contrast, strong correlation between MixMatch accuracy and the proposed DeDiMs allow us to quantitatively rank different unlabelled datasets ante hoc according to expected MixMatch accuracy. This is what we call MixMOOD. Furthermore, we argue that the MixMOOD approach can aid to standardize the evaluation of different semi-supervised learning techniques under real world scenarios involving out of distribution data., Comment: The first two authors made equal contribution
