Hospital logistics automation applied to the dispensing of medicines to patients in care transition (hospital discharge or outpatient visit) offers significant opportunities to improve risk management and ensure the quality of healthcare. The adoption of technological innovation in hospital requires organizational changes, development of new workflows, collaboration between different professionals and acquisition of new skills. The logistics automation system was analyzed using NOISE analysis, as a strategic planning tool, in order to assess the impact of this innovation. The analysis highlighted the consistency of the innovation with local health policies, the assessment of feasibility in the hospital context and the reorganization focused on process optimization. As a result, operational steps were initiated leading to the acquisition of the new technology in February 2023. The application of strategic planning techniques to healthcare processes is crucial to ensure technological advancement in healthcare, the maximization of public investments and the development of a new professional culture capable of optimising innovations.

Purpose: Telepharmacy (TF) represents a tool to manage the complexity related to drug therapies and to guarantee continuity of patient empowerment in transitions of care. The aim of this work is to analyze the critical issues related to the implementation of the TF service, in order to enhance its application., Results: Over 27 months, the TF service was offered to 60 patients. 48% of patients used the service (mean age=38 years; N=13 (45%) M). Although they accepted the service, 17% of patients (mean age=56 years; N=2 (20%) M) were unable to access the platform once they returned home. Poor digital skills and lack of a caregiver were barriers to service acceptance for 35% of patients (mean age=63 years; N=13 (62%) M). Overall, patients with a mean age ≥56 years did not use the service., Conclusions: TF represents an opportunity in care transitions to identify early critical issues related to drug therapy and to contribute to the integration of different levels of care. The analysis highlights that only the youngest patients (with an average age of 38 years), being more skilled in IT, have actually had access to the TF service. It will be necessary in the near future to make health teleconsultations increasingly widespread and accessible.

Since the introduction of DNA-based architectures, in the past decade, DNA tetrahedrons have aroused great interest. Applications of such nanostructures require structural control, especially in the perspective of their possible functionalities. In this work, an integrated approach for structural characterization of a tetrahedron structure is proposed with a focus on the fundamental biophysical aspects driving the assembly process. To address such an issue, spin-labeled DNA sequences are chemically synthesized, self-assembled, and then analyzed by Continuous-Wave (CW) and pulsed Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Interspin distance measurements based on PELDOR/DEER techniques combined with molecular dynamics (MD) thus revealed unexpected dynamic heterogeneity and flexibility of the assembled structures. The observation of flexibility in these ordered 3D structures demonstrates the sensitivity of this approach and its effectiveness in accessing the main dynamic and structural features with unprecedented resolution.

In this work, a structural analysis of Ge layers deposited by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) on Ag(1 1 1) surfaces with and without an AlN buffer layer have been investigated by x-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) at the Ge-K edge. For the Ge layers deposited on h-AlN buffer layer on Ag(1 1 1) an interatomic Ge-Ge distance [Formula: see text] Å is found, typical of 2-Dimensional Ge layers and in agreement with the theoretical predictions for free standing low-buckled Germanene presented in literature. First principles calculations, performed in the density functional theory (DFT) framework, supported the experimental RHEED and XAS findings, providing evidence for the epitaxial 2-D Ge layer formation on h-AlN/Ag(1 1 1) template.

The moving-strip technique employing a 60Co beam, is used in radiotherapy for whole abdominal irradiation in ovarian tumours and lymphomas. With this technique the spread of received dose from single strip, around an average value, is very high. Our paper suggest a computerized method for a more homogeneous dose distribution in central strips and a lower dose in out-side tissues.

Radioisotopic study of platelet kinetics can provide a preliminary orientation in the diagnosis of thrombocytopenia. A study of the platelet kinetics in thrombocytopenic and normal subjects using the Cr51 isologous platelet labelling technique and subsequent in vivo injection of the labelled platelets was conducted. The results obtained confirm the reliability and usefulness of the technique. The identification of the limitations involved and the recognition of their significance in processing data allows the hematologist and the general practitioner to allow the right amount of room for the study of platelet kinetics in the diagnosis of thrombocytopenia.
