A directory for design firms for special events is presented.

Information on the design concept created by Archrival for the annual National Collegiate Rock Paper Scissors Tournament hosted by the College Bookstores of America, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Different posters, billboards, buttons and marketing materials were used for individual college competitions. Imagery of the New York City skyline was incorporated in the elements of rock, paper, or scissors used for the posters and banners.

Information on the design concept created by Campbell Fisher Design (CFD) for the Vegas Grand Prix event in Las Vegas, Nevada, held in partnership with Champ Car, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Sexy imagery, illustrations, color and copywriting were used for the brand identity. A bright red logo with imagery of stylized wings and modern photography was created. Graphics and taglines were developed for the print advertising for the event.

Information on the design concept created by Dean Johnson Design for the 2006 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Final Four, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. For the month-long series of single-elimination playoff games known as March Madness, a logo that represented speed and motion inspired by the Indy 500 car race was created and retained by the NCAA for future Final Four logos. Merchandising, advertising and signage used a graphics standard for partners and sponsors.

Information on the design concept created by AdamsMorioka Inc. for the Sundance Film Festival, an annual event that celebrates and promotes independent film and filmmakers in the U.S., from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Campaign materials handled by the company include printed and motion pieces, advertising and environmental graphics covering Park City, Utah. Actor and founder Robert Redford and producer Jan Fleming collaborated on making the 2007 design.Jan Lancaster Fleming (28 May 1908 - 12 August 1964)

Information on the design concept created by Pavone for the Harrisburg Shakespeare Festival (HSF), from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Promotional materials included posters, T-shirts, buttons and outdoor advertising, which all contained the HSF identity. A one-color set of materials was developed and posters were mounted on every streetlight and tree in the area, which became part of the visual landscape of the city.

Information on the design concept created by Plazm for the annual Northwest Film and Video Festival in Portland, Oregon, organized by the Northwest Arts Center, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Imagery pertaining to either film or the geographic region were selected for the design of posters, advertisements, T-shirts and theater slides. Design pieces illustrated the goal of the festival which recognizes independent northwestern filmmaking.

Information on the design concept created by Morris! Communication for the 2003 Hot Wheels Hall of Fame, an invitation-only event at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Campaign materials included a ballot package, invitations, event graphics and an award statue, which embodied speed, power and attitude of the Hot Wheels brand. A description of the gala invitations is presented.

Information on the design concept created by UMS Design Studio for the 2007 Awards Nite for the Creative Future program of the British Council of India, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Campaign materials included posters, banners, invitations and an animation played at the awards event. An ornate illustration and a pixel-based structure of a butterfly were merged to symbolize the duality of thought and talent possessed by the entrepreneurs.

The article presents photographs of invitations created by various design companies for community and education-related special events, including a design by David Clark Design for the Ski Seminar 2004 of the DENTSPLY Tulsa Dental Specialties, an invitation prepared by Schilling Design for the 25th Annual Oktoberfest of the MainStrasse Village Association, as well as Calagraphic Design's work for the Tyler School of Art Senior Show 2007 of the Tyler School of Art.

Information on the design concept created by Elixir Design for the Modern Ball, a biennial fund-raiser hosted by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in California, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. An identity was created which was set across the backdrop of the museum. Alterations to the event logo which retained the color field of the SFMOMA logo are explained. A description of the invitation for the 2005 event is offered.

Information on the design concept created by The Jones Group for the annual High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction (HMAWA) organized by the high Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Campaign materials included invitations, auction displays, gala program and a website. Wine glasses and the actual dance floor were branded. The 2007 event had the theme "Wine Is King" to signify the exhibition partnership of the museum with the Louvre in France.

Information on the design concept created by Go Welsh for the 2007 Fonk Fest, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics" is presented. Design components for the event, a fund-raiser to benefit music education in Lancaster, Pennsylvania organized by the Music for Everyone (MFE) organization, included invitations, posters, T-shirts and signage. A three-dimensional sign of the event logo was created. Cutouts of Fonk characters were placed at the event space. Fonk Fest was also staffed by Go Welsh volunteers.

Information on the design concept created by Endless Possibilities Productions Inc. (EPOS) for the annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, which takes place in several cities in the U.S., from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Included in the campaign were national advertising, counter displays, brochures, postcards and signage. Optimistic and humorous messages were printed on T-shirts.

Information on the design concept created by CDI Studios for the annual AIDS Walk fund-raiser hosted by the Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN), from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Promotional materials include registration and donation cards, brochures, print advertising campaigns and merchandise. "Everyone Walks" and "Tied Together" were the slogans used for the message of collectivity, reinforced by the pedestrian crosswalk walking man icon.

Information on the design concept created by Trilix Marketing Group for the annual World Pork Expo hosted by the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. For the 2007 event, held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, about 11,000 direct mail pieces, event signage, promotional materials and advertising were produced by Trilix. A flea market chic campaign was created using block printing techniques for the type and graphic elements of the design.

Information on the design concept created by Gee +Chung Design for the annual themed holiday parties hosted by venture capital firm Doll Capital Management (DCM) for its partners and clients, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Event print and online invitations, banners and signage have all focused on the common message of internationalism. Incorporated in the design is the DCM identity using the DCM letters as graphic elements added to the texture of the design.

Information on the design concept for the Thinking Creatively Conference hosted by the Art Directors Club of New Jersey and Kean University, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Materials for the conference which were overseen by Steven Brower, art director of the Design Studio at Kean University, include invitations, posters and programs sent to schools and corporations. Descriptions of posters for the conference since 2004 are presented.

Information on the design direction of the HOW Design Conference held June 10 to 13, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. Campaign components worked on by the Creative Services team from F&W Publications include the event logo, advertisements, a website and signage. A visual personality was created using local design and culture and things related to Atlanta.

The article presents photographs of invitations created by design companies for various occasions, including a design by Laura Smith Illustration for the 28th Annual Art Deco Weekend of the Miami Design Preservation League, Abstract Studio's design for the Sacramento State 2006 Student Spring Show of the Sacramento State Department of Design, and a design by Chemi Montes Design for the Painted Music event of Katzen Museum.

Information on the design concept of Top Design for the Spirit of Life Awards Gala of City of Hope, a research and treatment hospital Los Angeles, California, from "Design for Special Events: 500 of the Best Logos, Invitations, and Graphics," is presented. An event logo, invitation and tribute journal are created annually to give each fund-raising event a different look and feel. Research on the year's honoree is done by designers to have a starting point for their design.
