Objectives: Tooth wear, also referred to as tooth surface loss, occurs due to causes other than caries. This involves the loss of hard tissues, namely enamel, dentin, and/or cementum. Types of tooth wear/tooth surface loss are abrasion, abfraction, attrition, and erosion. These multifactorial conditions can be caused by factors such as lifestyle, diet, or even habits, and may not be symptomatic. The focus of this article is to provide clinicians with detailed examples and explanations of the causes of tooth loss to aid in early diagnosis. Through early identification, the preventive measures outlined can be implemented to avoid excessive tooth wear. The provision of a treatment flowchart and general treatment recommendations aims to help clinicians determine when to restore these lesions and the most appropriate treatment measures for the four types of wear. Method and materials: The PubMed (MEDLINE) search engine was used to gather information on teeth restricted to a 5-year period (26 August 2018 to 25 July 2022). Only English-language studies and reviews with the best balance of sensitivity and specificity were considered. A Boolean search of the PubMed dataset was implemented to combine a range of keywords: ("tooth wear" OR tooth attrition OR tooth erosion OR tooth abrasion OR tooth abfraction). Additional articles were selected through Google Scholar. Results: By this process, many articles and studies were obtained, and the 48 most relevant published studies were chosen and used in the current review. Conclusion: Tooth wear affects an increasing number of individuals and can have detrimental effects physically, mentally, and emotionally. Implant treatment is provided to individuals with normal, idealized masticatory forces and also to patients with parafunctional habits such as grinding, clenching, and bruxing. Dental erosion is a common increasing condition and is reported to affect 32 % of adults, increasing with age. This oral environment is conducive to tribocorrosion and the potential loss of materials from the implant surfaces and interfaces with prosthetic components. Although several fretting-corrosion studies have been reported, until now, no study has simulated clinically relevant micromotion. Therefore, our aim is to investigate fretting-corrosion using our new micro-fretting corrosion system, simulating clinical conditions with 5 µm motion at the implant-abutment interface under various occlusal loads and acidic exposures. We simulated four conditions in an oral environment by varying the contact load (83 N and 233 N) and pH levels (3 and 6.5). The commonly used dental implant material, Grade IV titanium, and abutment material Zirconia (ZrO 2)/ Grade IV titanium were selected as testing couple materials. Artificial saliva was employed to represent an oral environment. In addition, a standard tribocorrosion protocol was followed, and the pin was controlled to oscillate on the disk with an amplitude of 5 μ m during the mastication stage. After the testing, 3D profilometry and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were utilized to analyze the worn surfaces. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was also used to measure the metal ion release. Energy ratios were below 0.2, indicating a fretting regime of partial slip for all groups. Open-circuit potential (OCP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were analyzed to compare the electrochemical behavior among groups. As a result, corrosive damage was observed to be more in the Ti4- Ti4 groups than in Zr-Ti4 ones, whereas more mechanical damage was found in the Zr-Ti4 groups than in the Ti4-Ti4 groups. Possible mechanisms were proposed in the discussion to explain these findings. The results observed from this study might be helpful to clinicians with implant selection. For example, for patients with bruxism, a titanium implant paired with a titanium abutment may be preferable, while patients with GERD may benefit more from a titanium implant paired with a zirconia abutment. Objective: This systematic review investigates the prevalence of erosive tooth wear (ETW) in individuals classified as risk groups (gastroesophageal reflux disease, eating disorders, special diets, acidic beverage, drugs and alcohol, legal drugs and medications, and occupational or sports). Materials and methods: The research was conducted in nine databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, LILACS/BVS, SciELO, Scopus, Science Direct, Open Grey, and Web of Science) up to April 2024 (PROSPERO CRD42021270150), along with a manual search of grey literature. Observational studies involving children and adults from these previously mentioned risk groups, which provided data on ETW prevalence, were included without date or language restrictions. The methodological quality of studies was evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute's Prevalence Data Critical Appraisal Tool. General and subgroup data were meta-analyzed using a random-effects model. Results: Overall, 4403 studies were retrieved, out of which 148 met the inclusion criteria. Each risk group showed higher prevalences of ETW in these patients in general and subgroup analysis; although subgroup analysis was not possible for all risk groups due to the heterogeneity of the indices found. Conclusions: The Legal drugs and Medications risk group showed lower overall prevalence values (30%), while the Drugs and Alcohol risk group obtained higher values (67%). Prevalence rates for other groups were: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (54.1%), Eating Disorders (65%), Special Diets (65.9%), Acidic Beverages (40%), Occupational and Sports (51%). Clinical relevance: This systematic review highlights that risk groups are indeed at significant risk for the development of ETW and greater preventive care and dental monitoring are needed. This study primarily focused on the acid erosion of enamel and dentin. A detailed examination of the X-ray diffraction data proves that the products of the acid-caused decay of enamel belong to the family of isomorphic bioapatites, especially calcium-deficient hydroxyapatites. They are on a trajectory towards less and less crystallized substances. The increase in Bragg's parameter d and the decrease in the energy necessary for the changes were coupled with variability in the pH. This was valid for the corrosive action of acid solutions with a pH greater than 3.5. When the processes of natural tooth aging were studied by X-ray diffraction, a clear similarity to the processes of the erosion of teeth was revealed. Scarce data on osteoporotic bones seemed to confirm the conclusions derived for teeth. The data concerning the bioapatite decays were confronted with the cycles of apatite synthesis/decay. The chemical studies, mainly concerning the Ca/P ratio in relation to the pH range of durability of popular compounds engaged in the synthesis/decay of apatites, suggested that the process of the formation of erosion under the influence of acids was much inverted in relation to the process of the formation of apatites, starting from brushite up to apatite, in an alkaline environment. Our simulations showed the shift between the family of bioapatites versus the family of apatites concerning the pH of the reaction environment. The detailed model stoichiometric equations associated with the particular stages of relevant processes were derived. The synthesis processes were alkalization reactions coupled with dehydration. The erosion processes were acid hydrolysis reactions. Formally, the alkalization of the environment during apatite synthesis is presented by introducing Ca(OH)2 to stoichiometric equations. ABSTRACT Objectives Materials and Methods Results Conclusions Clinical Relevance To evaluate the effects of dentifrices containing sodium fluoride (NaF) combined with NovaMin (Sensodyne Repair & Protect—SRP), NaF combined with stannous fluoride (SnF2, Oral‐B Pro‐Gengiva—OBP), and amine fluoride (AmF, Colgate Elmex—ELM) on enamel subjected to simulated erosive cycling.Bovine enamel‐dentin discs (n = 10/group) were subjected to erosive cycling with orange juice (pH = 3.29, 5 min, 3x/day), artificial saliva (SA–2 h, 3x/day and overnight) and treated with dentifrice (2 min, 2x/day) or without treatment (CONT). Surface microhardness (SMH) was evaluated at baseline (T0), on the first (T1) and fifth (T5) days. SMH loss (%SHL) was calculated. Surface roughness (Ra, μm) was determined at T0 and T5. Morphology and mineral content were evaluated under scanning electron microscopy and energy‐dispersive x‐ray spectroscopy. Data were analyzed using ANOVA/Tukey or Bonferroni (α = 5%).No differences in %SHL were detected among groups at T1. At T5, OBP promoted %SHL, Ra, and ΔRa significantly lower than all the other groups (p < 0.05). All groups exhibited morphological changes in topography and similar Ca/P means before and after treatments.Dentifrice containing SnF2 minimized the negative effects on the SMH and Ra caused by exposure to orange juice after 5 days of simulated cycling.Patients who are more exposed to risk factors for dental erosion could benefit from the use of dentifrice containing SnF2. Aim: This study evaluated the efficacy and cytotoxicity of 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) gel incorporated with 10% (w/w) biosilicate (BioS) on sound enamel and early‐stage enamel erosion lesions. Methods: Discs of enamel/dentin were selected, subjected to erosive cycles (0.3% citric acid, pH 2.6), and treated with (n = 8): HP (35% HP, positive control); HP_BioS [carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) + HP + BioS]; BioS (CMC + BioS); CMC (negative control). The discs were adapted to artificial pulp chambers with the enamel exposed for bleaching, and the dentin facing toward the culture medium (Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium [DMEM]). Bleaching was performed in three 30‐min sessions at 7‐day intervals. After bleaching, the diffusion product (DMEM extract + diffused HP) was pipetted onto MDPC‐23 odontoblastic cell line and inoculated. Color parameters (ΔL, Δa, Δb), color change (ΔE00), and changes in whiteness index (ΔWID) were determined before (T0) and after the last bleaching session (T3). Cell viability (MTT, %), H2O2 diffusion (μg/mL), oxidative cell stress (OxS), and cell fluorescence (live/dead assay, in confocal microscopy) were assessed (ANOVA/Tukey; α = 0.05). Results: No difference in ΔL, Δa, Δb, ΔE00, and ΔWID were found between HP and HP_BioS (p > 0.05). The incorporation of BioS decreased the HP diffusion into the substrates and mitigated oxidative stress in early‐stage eroded enamel (p < 0.05). HP_BioS presented significantly higher cell viability compared with HP under erosion conditions. Live/dead assay indicated that BioS_HP maintained viability with larger clusters of viable cells. Conclusion: Incorporating BioS into HP maintained bleaching effectiveness, favored cell viability, reduced the oxidative stress, and the cytotoxicity in teeth with early‐stage erosion. This study evaluated the effect of solutions containing aminomethacrylate copolymer (AA) and sodium fluoride (F; 225 ppm F−) or fluoride plus stannous chloride (FSn; 225 ppm F−, 800 ppm Sn2+) against enamel and dentin erosion/abrasion. Solutions F, FSn, AA, F+AA, FSn+AA, and deionized water as negative control were tested. Bovine enamel and dentin specimens (n = 13/solution/substrate) underwent a set of erosion‐abrasion cycles (0.3% citric acid [5 min, 4×/day], human saliva [1 h, 4×/day], brushing [15 s, 2×/day], and treatments [2 min, 2×/day]) for each of five days. Initial enamel erosion was evaluated using Knoop microhardness after the first and second acid challenge on day 1, and surface loss with profilometry after day 5. KOH‐soluble fluoride was assessed. Data were analyzed with ANOVA/Tukey tests. The combination of fluoride and AA resulted in higher protection against enamel erosion, whereas this was not the case for the combination of AA and FSn. All treatments protected against enamel and dentin loss. The lowest surface loss values were observed with F+AA and FSn+AA. The polymer did not significantly influence the KOH‐soluble fluoride formation on enamel/dentin specimens. The aminomethacrylate copolymer effectively enhanced the efficacy of sodium fluoride against initial erosion and improved the control of enamel and dentin wear of F and FSn solutions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between erosion and bone mineral density (BMD) in RA and whether it can be driven by autoimmunity. Methods: Patients fulfilling the ACR 1987- or ACR/EULAR 2010-criteriae for RA. performed radiographs (erosions evaluated by the modified Sharp/van der Heidje erosion score) and biology for anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPAs), rheumatoid factors (RFs) and anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs) at intervals of less than 2 years from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for BMD assessment. Results: A total of 149 patients were included, (75.8% women, mean age of 62 y.o (SD 9.61) and a median disease duration of 132 months [60; 240]). A total of 61.1% patients were ACPA positive, 79.9% were erosive and 10.7% had a hip or spine T-score ≤ −2.5. A higher erosion score was associated with a lower BMD (value: −0.222; p = 0.009) and T-score (value −0.397; p < 0.0001) in the hip. ACPA status was associated with a higher erosion score (63.0 (53.2) vs. 45.5 (44.1) for ACPA- (p = 0.04)). ACPA titers were associated with a lower BMD in the hip (value −0.216; p = 0.01). In linear regression, erosion and BMD were still associated, but this association is not driven by ACPA status or titer. Conclusions: In RA patients, erosions and BMD are inversely associated but this relationship does not seem to be driven by autoimmunity only. ABSTRACT Objective Materials and Methods Results Conclusions Clinical Significance To characterize the composition, flexure resistance, and optical properties of a multilayer translucent zirconia in relation to its multi‐transition zones.A multilayer zirconia (5Y/4Y) and a conventional 3 mol% yttria partially stabilized zirconia (3Y) were investigated. Bar‐shaped specimens were obtained from the enamel and dentin layers, and the vertical cross‐section of 5Y/4Y (N = 10). A four‐point flexural (σf) test was performed using a universal testing machine (1.0 mm/min). Plate‐shaped specimens (N = 6) were also produced from the enamel, transition 1, transition 2, and dentin layers. Translucency parameters (TPab and TP00) were determined using a dental spectrophotometer (N = 6). X‐ray fluorescence and X‐ray diffraction techniques were used to analyze elemental (N = 2) and phase compositions (N = 2), respectively. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test (α = 0.05).The yttrium content and σf varied between layers of 5Y/4Y. 3Y had the highest σf, followed by dentin. Enamel and cross‐section showed lower and statically similar σf. 3Y and dentin groups had similar but statistically lower TPab and TP00 than the enamel.Different layers of multilayered zirconia have distinct compositions, which affect their mechanical and optical properties. The weak enamel layer compromises the mechanical properties of cross‐sectional specimens.The development of novel cubic‐containing multilayer zirconia ceramics to produce monolithic restorations brings new challenges to dental clinicians and laboratory technicians. Background: Erosive tooth wear is an increasingly common pathology in the youth population. It refers to the chronic, localized, painless loss of dental hard tissues caused by non-bacterial acids, often originating from external sources like acidic beverages. Energy drink consumption is on the rise, frequently preceding physical exercise to enhance perceived energy levels. However, there are other types of beverages that also provide energy, such as pre-workout drinks, classified as sports drinks. The main objective of this research study has been conducted with the purpose of analyzing the pH of energy drinks and pre-workout beverages, and studying the frequency of consumption of such beverages in amateur athletes who practice sports. Methods: A total of 67 beverages were examined, comprising 43 energy drinks and 24 sports supplementation beverages, also known as pre-workout or pre-training beverages. The participants were given a survey to complete. They were asked to respond whether they consumed any type of pre-workout or energy drink, and they were also asked about the timing of consumption. Results: The findings indicated an average pH of 3.3 among the studied beverages, indicating a pH below the critical threshold. Out of the 113 participants, 51% reported taking some form of supplementation. Conclusions: Consequently, it was concluded that most of the analyzed beverages recorded pH values low enough to classify them as erosive, posing a threat to enamel surface. When analyzing the frequency of consumption of energy drinks and pre-workout beverages in amateur athletes, we observed that most participants aged 29 years or younger took supplements 3 to 5 times a week, while the older age groups more frequently took supplements 1 to 2 times a week. Objectives: Noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are multifactorial and can be caused by the anatomical structure of the teeth, erosion, abrasion and abnormal occlusion. The aim of this case–control study was to explore the risk factors for NCCLs. Methods: Cone‐beam computed tomography was used to determine whether a wedge‐shaped defect existed at the cementoenamel junction. We compared 63 participants with NCCLs with 63 controls without NCCLs, matched for sex, age (±1 year) and toothbrushing‐related factors (e.g., type of bristle and brushing patterns, frequency and strength). All participants were asked to complete a questionnaire about self‐administered daily diet habits and health condition. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to determine the risk factors for NCCLs. Results: Significant variables in the univariate analysis (i.e., p <.2) included frequency of carbonated beverage consumption, sella‐nasion‐point B angle (SNB) and Frankfort‐mandibular plane angle (FMA). Multivariate logistic regression demonstrated that the consumption frequency of carbonated beverages (odds ratio [OR] = 3.147; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.039–9.532), FMA (OR = 1.100; 95% CI, 1.004–1.204) and SNB (OR = 0.896; 95% CI, 0.813–0.988) was independent influencing factors. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) value of regression Model 1 (established with the frequency of carbonated beverage consumption, FMA, SNB and sleep bruxism) was 0.700 (95% CI, 0.607–0.792; p <.001), and that of regression Model 2 (established using the frequency of carbonated beverage consumption, FMA and SNB) was 0.704 (95% CI, 0.612–0.796; p <.001). Conclusions: The consumption frequency of carbonated beverages and FMA was risk factors for NCCLs; the higher the frequency of carbonated beverage consumption and FMA, the higher was the probability of NCCLs. SNB was a protective factor for NCCL occurrence; the larger the SNB, the lower was the probability of NCCL occurrence. These findings have further clarified the aetiology of NCCLs and provided clinicians with valuable insights into strategies for preventing the loss of dental tissue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dental erosion represents the gradual and irreversible depletion of dental hard tissues due to a chemical process, independent of bacterial influence. It has emerged as a notable clinical concern in recent years, primarily attributed to substantial lifestyle shifts resulting in the heightened intake and frequency of acid-containing foods and beverages. Apart from the extrinsic erosive agents derived from external sources, such as dietary habits or medication, intrinsic erosive agents may exist due to pathological reasons with the contents of the stomach including gastric juice, mainly composed of hydrochloric acid, being their sole source. Currently, bioactive materials are used in various forms for the prevention of dental erosion. Such materials include, among others, bioactive glasses (BAGs). BAGs are a type of glass that, when in contact with biological fluids, can elicit a specific biological response. When they come into contact with bodily fluids, they can initiate a series of processes, including the formation of a hydroxyapatite layer on the glass surface. This bioactivity is particularly advantageous in medical and dental applications, where BAGs are used for bone regeneration, tissue repair, and dental restorative or preventive techniques. The aim of this literature review was to analyze and discuss the role of BAGs in protecting the tooth structures from dental erosion. The analysis of the existing literature regarding this topic indicated that the use of BAGs in preventive treatments against tooth erosion can be useful in dental practice. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effectiveness of highly concentrated fluoride products and remineralizing products (F-APC) in preventing erosive dental lesions in competitive swimming patients. A total of 48 teeth were extracted, preserved in saline solution and divided into three groups. In G1 (control group), each tooth was half-immersed in chlorinated pool water; in G2 (fluoride-treated group), after being totally immersed in chlorinated water, each tooth had half of its surface treated with a highly concentrated fluoride product once a week; in G3 (remineralization product-treated group), each tooth was totally immersed in chlorinated water and half of its surface was treated with a remineralizing product after each immersion. The study was conducted over a 4-week period, immersing the teeth for 4 h per day. In G1, statistically significant differences were observed in submerged versus non-submerged tooth surfaces at week 3 (T3) (p = 0.019) and week 4 (T4) (p = 0.0007), with four and eight surfaces showing erosive tooth wear (ETW), respectively. In G2, a difference was observed between fluoride-treated and non-fluoride-treated surfaces at T4 (p = 0.039), with three surfaces with ETW among the non-treated ones. In G3, the difference was observed between portions treated with F-APC and those not treated at T4 (p = 0.019), with four surfaces with ETW among the untreated ones. Chlorinated pool water is a potential erosive agent for teeth if water pH values reach a critical value. Treating the teeth surface with highly concentrated fluoride products, once a week for 5 min, and F-APC are effective in protecting teeth against tooth erosion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objective: Limited access to health services and low educational levels are factors in the rural population that are associated with the development of oral pathologies. However, the specific risk indicators contributing to erosive tooth wear (ETW) in these populations remain unclear. The objective of this study was to identify risk indicators associated with the prevalence of erosive tooth wear (ETW) in schoolchildren aged 8–12 years from rural and urban areas in the State of Mexico. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in public schools in rural and urban areas. The prevalence of ETW was evaluated using the Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE). The risk indicators studied were gastroesophageal reflux, vomiting, vitamin C, food, beverages, dental hygiene, bruxism, and hyposalivation. Logistic regression models were used to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: The prevalence of ETW was higher in the rural area (77.3%) compared to the urban area (51.2%) (p = 0.001). The odds of presenting ETW were more than twice in schoolchildren from rural areas compared to those from urban areas (OR: 2.25, 95% CI: 1.11–3.98). Risk indicators varied between rural and urban populations, with different factors such as the consumption of fresh tomato sauce, orange, tangerine, atole (artisanal corn-based drink), and teeth grinding in the rural area, and lemon, soft drink, fruit juice consumption, and the simplified oral hygiene index in the urban area (p < 0.05). Conclusions: To prevent ETW, strategies offering tailored dietary and hygiene advice should be proposed, considering the specific conditions of each geographic area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The scientific literature has studies that assess the influence of erosive challenges with citric acidic drinks and substances on the adhesive bond strength to enamel and dentin, but does not contain information about the influence of regional components of an acidic diet on this process. Thus, this study evaluated the erosive influence of Amazonian tucupi on enamel and dentin microshear bond strength. Materials and Methods: One hundred and sixty-eight healthy bovine incisors teeth were used, divided into 12 groups (n = 14). For erosive cycling, distilled water (negative control), cola-based soft drink (positive control), or tucupi were used, followed by adhesive strategies of (1) etch-and-rinse (conventional) (Adper™ Single Bond 2) and (2) self-etching (Clearfil SE Bond). All specimens were subjected to erosive cycling for 5 days and, after 24 h, composite resin cylinders were built up for the microshear bond strength test. The data showed normal distribution and were analyzed by two-way ANOVA, followed by the Tukey post and test (P ≤ 0.05). Results: There were no significant differences in enamel (P > 0.05). In dentin, only the groups exposed to cola-based soft drink showed significant differences (P < 0.01). The failure mode showed that Type II (mixed) was predominant (95%). Conclusion: The erosive challenge with tucupi did not influence the bond strength to enamel and dentin, regardless of the adhesive strategy used.

Results The findings indicated an average pH of 3.3 among the studied beverages, indicating a pH below the critical threshold. Out of the 113 participants, 51% reported taking some form of supplementation. Conclusions Consequently, it was concluded that most of the analyzed beverages recorded pH values low enough to classify them as erosive, posing a threat to enamel surface. When analyzing the frequency of consumption of energy drinks and pre-workout beverages in amateur athletes, we observed that most participants aged 29 years or younger took supplements 3 to 5 times a week, while the older age groups more frequently took supplements 1 to 2 times a week.

Background: Non-institutionalised older adults is the majority of older adults in Hong Kong. The study aimed to examine erosive tooth wear (ETW) and its association with dental conditions and oral hygiene habits among non-institutionalised older adults in Hong Kong. Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited dentate adults aged 60 or above from nine elderly daycare centres in the five main districts of Hong Kong. The study consists of a questionnaire survey and a clinical examination. A researcher used a questionnaire to collected the participants' demographic information, oral hygiene habits such as toothbrushing habits and dental visit behaviour. A calibrated examiner performed an oral examination in the daycare elderly centre to assess the ETW using basic erosive wear (BEWE) criteria. Oral hygiene was recorded using visible plaque index. Prosthetic status was recorded using the World Health Organization criteria. Logistic regression was used to examine the correlation between ETW and the dental conditions and oral hygiene habits. Results: This study recruited 433 dentate adults and 333 adults were female (77%). Their age ranged from 60 to 99 years and their mean age was 74 years (SD = 7). They all had ETW (BEWE > 0). Over half of them (57%) had BEWE score of 3, indicating severe ETW. Analysis showed increasing age (OR = 1.030, p = 0.029) and older adults with untreated dental caries had higher odds (OR = 1.822, p = 0.002) of presenting severe ETW. No other associations were found between the ETW and the factors studied. Conclusion: Hong Kong non-institutionalised older adults aged 60 or above had ETW and more than half of them had severe ETW. To date, no consensus exists regarding the management of enamel infractions (cracks and craze lines), which may be associated with sensitivity. Two clinical cases are presented on the management of enamel infractions using a modified erosion-infiltration protocol for resin infiltration. Initially indicated for the treatment of early caries lesions, Icon (DMG) low-viscosity resin infiltrant has also been used to mask unesthetic developmental defects of enamel in anterior teeth. Treatment using this modified infiltration protocol immediately eliminated tooth sensitivity associated with the enamel infractions. Dental erosion represents the gradual and irreversible depletion of dental hard tissues due to a chemical process, independent of bacterial influence. It has emerged as a notable clinical concern in recent years, primarily attributed to substantial lifestyle shifts resulting in the heightened intake and frequency of acid-containing foods and beverages. Apart from the extrinsic erosive agents derived from external sources, such as dietary habits or medication, intrinsic erosive agents may exist due to pathological reasons with the contents of the stomach including gastric juice, mainly composed of hydrochloric acid, being their sole source. Currently, bioactive materials are used in various forms for the prevention of dental erosion. Such materials include, among others, bioactive glasses (BAGs). BAGs are a type of glass that, when in contact with biological fluids, can elicit a specific biological response. When they come into contact with bodily fluids, they can initiate a series of processes, including the formation of a hydroxyapatite layer on the glass surface. This bioactivity is particularly advantageous in medical and dental applications, where BAGs are used for bone regeneration, tissue repair, and dental restorative or preventive techniques. The aim of this literature review was to analyze and discuss the role of BAGs in protecting the tooth structures from dental erosion. The analysis of the existing literature regarding this topic indicated that the use of BAGs in preventive treatments against tooth erosion can be useful in dental practice. Further clinical evidence is necessary to confirm the effectiveness of the particular preventive measures.

Introduction: Natural products are an option to be used in different conditions in the oral cavity, such as Camellia sinensis, which due to its different properties would be beneficial in the erosion of the dental surface. Abstract Background Eating disorders (EDs) pose a significant risk to health, especially when not diagnosed early. For several years EDs and oral health has been extensively studied, and now it is quite clear the existence of a correlation between specific oral manifestations and these disorders. While these oral signs could potentially aid early diagnosis of EDs, their identification and the eventual establishment of a correlation is currently heavily limited to the clinician’s experience. The present systematic review critically examines existing literature, offering an updated overview of oro-dental manifestations associated with EDs. Method MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, Scopus, and grey literature were searched, and relevant epidemiological comparative studies were screened using the Rayyan software. No limitations have been imposed on the research regarding oro-dental outcomes, encompassing all medically diagnosed EDs. The quality of the studies was valuated using AXIS appraisal tool for cross-sectional studies. Result Out of 3990 studies, 32 fulfilled the eligibility criteria and were included in the synthesis. The identified eating disorders include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and/or Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified, predominantly among female subjects, primarily originating from Europe. The evaluated oro-dental outcomes include dental erosion, caries, saliva assessment, hygiene-periodontal parameters, and mucosal tissue appearance. The association with erosion is confirmed while gingival recession, dentinal hypersensitivity, salivary flow thresholds and aspects relating to oral pathology are receiving increasing support from emerging evidence. Discussion This trend emphasizes the critical role of the complete intraoral examination to detect significant oro-dental signs that may indicate the onset of an ED.

Introduction: Erosive tooth wear (ETW) has been gaining attention due to its high prevalence. However, ETW clinical diagnosis is difficult and may go unnoticed by many professionals. The present study aimed to develop, implement and evaluate a theoretical–practical training using active methodologies in the development of undergraduate students' skills for the diagnosis of ETW compared to the traditional teaching method. Materials and Methods: This randomized controlled study involved two parallel groups: control group (n = 22), with learning based only on theoretical content and test group (n = 24), learning by theoretical–practical activity mediated by monitors/tutors. The theoretical class covered the current concepts of ETW, aetiology, diagnosis, use of the BEWE index, prevention and treatment. The practical training included exercises and discussions based on the diagnosis using BEWE scores of a collection of images and extracted teeth. To evaluate the efficacy of the teaching–learning methods, a theoretical multiple‐choice questionnaire and a practical test using images and extracted teeth were applied. The outcome was the number of correct answers. Groups were compared by Mann–Whitney (theoretical knowledge) and T tests (practical ability in diagnosis) (p <.05). Results: There was no significant difference between groups in the theoretical evaluation (p =.866). The test group showed higher ability to diagnose ETW lesions compared to the control group in the practical tests (p =.001). The performance of ETW diagnosis was similar when images were used in comparison to extracted teeth (p =.570). Conclusion: The practical activity associated with theoretical classes can be a promising strategy to improve the development of undergraduate students' skills in the diagnosis of ETW. Dental materials are challenged by wear processes in the oral environment and should be evaluated in laboratory tests prior to clinical use. Many laboratory wear-testing devices are high-cost investments and not available for cross-centre comparisons. The 'Rub&Roll' wear machine enables controlled application of force, chemical and mechanical loading, but the initial design was not able to test against rigid antagonist materials. The current study aimed to probe the sensitivity of a new 'Rub&Roll' set-up by evaluating the effect of force and test solution parameters (deionized water; water + abrasive medium; acid + abrasive medium) on the wear behaviour of direct and indirect dental resin-based composites (RBCs) compared with human molars against 3D-printed rod antagonists. Molars exhibited greater height loss than RBCs in all test groups, with the largest differences recorded with acidic solutions. Direct RBCs showed significantly greater wear than indirect RBCs in the groups containing abrasive media. The acidic + abrasive medium did not result in increased wear of RBC materials. The developed method using the 'Rub&Roll' wear machine in the current investigation has provided a sensitive wear test method to allow initial screening of resin-based composite materials compared with extracted human molars under the influence of different mechanical and erosive challenges. Introduction: Dermatomyositis (DM) is a rare systemic autoimmune disease characterized by a distinctive debilitating skin rash and skeletal muscle weakness. It is unclear if existing clinical outcome assessment (COA) measures include the concepts of priority to patients and those necessary to fully capture improvements in the active cutaneous manifestations of DM. This study aimed to develop the Cutaneous Dermatomyositis Investigator Global Assessment (CDM-IGA), a de novo IGA, for use in clinical trials of adult DM. Methods: Eight DM clinical experts participated in 60-min qualitative interviews consisting of concept elicitation and cognitive debriefing methodologies. Concept elicitation comprised open-ended questions with follow-up probes to explore clinicians' experiences of treating patients with DM, the impact of symptoms on patients' quality of life, and the severity levels of disease characteristics to explore DM progression. Cognitive debriefing required the clinical experts to perform a review of the CDM-IGA, designed to assess the severity of cutaneous disease activity of DM. After the interviews, a consensus meeting with three clinical experts was held to agree on any outstanding issues relating to the CDM-IGA. Results: The CDM-IGA was iteratively developed using the opinions of nine clinical experts. Feedback provided by all clinicians agreed that erythema was the main active cutaneous manifestation of DM and should be the primary characteristic on the CDM-IGA, split by erythema color and extent. To determine cutaneous disease severity, experts suggested adding a metric called secondary changes, which combined erosion/ulceration and lichenification, which could modify the patient's final score. Three clinical experts suggested that a photo-guide to support assessments of erythema across different skin tones could be beneficial. Conclusions: A novel CDM-IGA was developed for use with adult patients with DM in clinical trials, based on an iterative development process that combined qualitative feedback from clinical experts of DM and importantly adult patients living with DM. Background: Extrinsic factors for erosive tooth wear (ETW) have been widely reported, but the intrinsic factors for wear remain unclear. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors associated with the prevalence of ETW in patients with reflux oesophagitis (RO). To prevent severe ETW with RO, factors associated with severity of ETW were also evaluated. Methods: A total of 270 patients with RO were recruited. A modified tooth wear index was used to evaluate the prevalence and severity of ETW. Salivary secretion and buffering capacity were assessed prior to endoscopy. Subjects were asked to complete a medical condition and oral self‐care questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to identify factors collectively associated with the prevalence and severity of ETW. Results: A total of 212 cases were categorized as patients with ETW (148 with mild ETW and 64 with severe ETW). Multivariate analyses indicated that saliva secretion, severity of RO and proton pump inhibitor (PPI) resistance were associated with the prevalence of ETW, whereas age, BMI and severity of RO were associated with the severity of ETW. The odds ratio of saliva secretion and BMI were less than 1, meaning that higher saliva secretion resulted in a lower prevalence of ETW and lower BMI was associated with severe ETW. Conclusion: Saliva secretion, severity of RO and PPI resistance were associated with the prevalence of ETW, whereas age, BMI and severity of RO were associated with the severity of ETW. Objective: This scoping review aimed (1) to map, analyse, interpret and synthesize data from in situ studies on which substances were added to acidic beverages to reduce the erosive potential on tooth enamel and (2) to establish the level of evidence of the effectiveness of adding substances to acidic beverages to reduce the erosive potential on tooth enamel. Design: This is a scoping review, according to the methods from the Joanna Briggs Institute and PRISMA‐ScR, with high‐sensitivity searches in the databases PubMed (MEDLINE), Virtual Health Library, Embase (Elsevier), Scopus (Elsevier), Web of Science and ScienceDirect (Elsevier). In situ studies published in English until December 2022 were included. Studies that did not report a control group were excluded. To map and summarize the results, tables and figures were used. Results: From 895 potentially eligible articles, nine were included. Blackcurrant juices (n = 5) with the addition of calcium (n = 3) or xanthan gum (n = 2) formulations were the most tested in terms of reducing the erosive potential of the beverages on tooth enamel. The profilometer was the equipment of choice (n = 8) for evaluating the loss of enamel structure after the experimental tests. Conclusions: Calcium and xanthan gum are among the most tested by in situ studies, offering promising results in reducing the erosive potential of fruit juices and carbonated and energy drinks. This study evaluated in vivo, an intraoral device against the gold standard esophageal device for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) monitoring. Subjects scheduled for a catheter-based esophageal pH/impedance testing at a gastroenterology clinic were recruited. They were screened using the GerdQ questionnaire, demographics and dental conditions recorded. A prototype intraoral device, consisting of a Bravo™ capsule embedded in an Essix-style retainer fabricated for each subject, monitored intraoral pH. Concurrently, subjects underwent 24-h esophageal pH-impedance monitoring. A self-administered survey elicited the comfort and acceptance of both devices. The study recruited ten adult subjects (23 to 60-years-old) with a median GerdQ score of 9.5 corresponding to a 79% likelihood of GERD. Subjects with severe dental erosion had significantly (p < 0.05) higher acid exposure time and more non-meal reflux events. No adverse events were associated with the intraoral device while one was recorded for the esophageal device. The intraoral device was significantly more comfortable to place, more comfortable to wear, and interfered less with daily routine compared to the esophageal device. Accuracy of the intraoral device ranged between 86.15% and 37.82%. Being more tolerable than traditional esophageal pH monitoring, intraoral pH monitoring may be a useful adjunct for the diagnosis and management of GERD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The study aims to assess the prevalence of erosive tooth wear and risk levels amongst different age groups utilising Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE) amongst the population of South West Coastal India. Materials and Methods: One hundred and sixty healthy people participated in the research (n = 32 per group). Using sextants and the BEWE, index (0-18) allowed for the evaluation of erosive tooth wear. Questionnaires supplemented clinical data. Each participant was assigned to groups based on the severity of their erosive wear: high (BEWE sum ≥ 14), moderate (BEWE sum 9-13), low (3-8) and none (0-2). Results: There is no significant difference in the degree of erosive tooth wear across different age groups (χ²-20.11, P-0.067 [not‑significant]). There is a significant difference in response to questions across different age groups (χ²-487.21, P-0.01 [significant]). Conclusion: The prevalence of erosive tooth wear grows as individuals age. Older age groups, patients who are at a higher risk level require a more comprehensive form of treatment. Objective: To evaluate the effect of fluoride consistency and composition to protect enamel and dentin against the dental erosion. Materials and Methods: Bovine enamel and dentin specimens were treated with artificial saliva, neutral fluoride gel (NFG), acidulated phosphate fluoride gel (AFG), neutral fluoride foam (NFF), and acidulated phosphate fluoride foam. The samples were subjected to cycling. Micro energy‐dispersive X‐ray fluorescence spectrometry, surface roughness (Ra), contact angle (CA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were performed. Composition, CA and Ra data were analyzed by ANOVA and multiple comparison test (p < 0.05). Results: The dentin protected had a significantly higher mineral content than in the control. Eroded unprotected enamel had higher Ra values than normal surfaces. Fluoride treatments increased the Ra in dentin samples. AFG increased the CA in enamel. Fluoride foams increased CA in dentin with reduced mineral loss. SEM analysis found a deposited layer on enamel treated with AFG and remnants of deposits on dentin treated with NFG and NFF. Conclusion: Regardless of the form of application, fluoride provided protection against erosion, however with different levels. Micro-blasting is a general process for surface treatment of engineering components such as gears, dental implants, and screws. These components are put under solid particle impacts. To attain the acceptable final surface, it is important to present an accurate and fast prediction of erosion rate and other surface damage mechanisms of them under various conditions. To reduce the computational costs, this article aims to present a beneficial 3D model using representative volume element (RVE) technique for the simulation of multiple arbitrary angular solid particle erosion (SPE). This technique is used in finite element (FE) method in comparison with smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) to investigate their capability in SPE modeling. Johnson–Cook constitutive equations are performed to describe the erosive behavior of the titanium alloy. To verify the developed approach, SPE experiments were conducted on Ti-6Al-4V under various values of impact angle and particle velocity. Then, the effects of the impact angle on erosion rates are investigated to identify the critical angle in which the erosion rate is maximum. Moreover, an approximate equation is presented for variations of erosion rate. The article focuses on the erosion effect on the surface of the alloy by investigating SPE mechanisms. The results show the RVE approach, as well as the approximate equation, can predict the erosive damage in a good agreement with the empirical data. SPH showed more accurate results in higher velocities, while the FE model is more appropriate in the lower ones. According to the results, the impacting angle between 35 and 45° is critical. Acidic beverages are believed to elevate the risk of enamel surface erosion. In addition to the intake of soft drinks, the increased consumption of salad dressings has been linked to a higher prevalence of dental erosion. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the influence of bottled salad dressings on the development of enamel erosion in the presence or absence of pellicle through in vitro experiment. Preliminary pH and calcium analyses of solutions were performed. Highest pH and calcium content was found for sandwich spread i.e., 4.69 and 55.4 mg/100 g grams, respectively. Eighty tooth specimens (measuring 4 × 4 × 3 mm) were prepared from extracted human premolars and randomly assigned to four groups (group 1: orange juice; group 2: eggless plain mayonnaise; group 3: sandwich spread; and group 4: thousand island dressing) with 20 samples in each group. Ten tooth specimens from each group were immersed in 20 ml of the respective solutions for 5 min (control group). The remaining ten tooth specimens from each group were submerged in 5 mL saliva vials for 3 min to facilitate salivary pellicle formation before being immersed in their respective solutions for 5 min (saliva-covered group). Pre and post-experimental assessments of enamel roughness and hardness were conducted using a surface roughness tester and Knoop Hardness indenter, respectively. Overall, enamel roughness was notably elevated in the control group, with the eggless plain mayonnaise (0.52 ± 0.38) and thousand island dressing groups (0.57 ± 0.29) showing a significant increase in surface roughness post-test (p = 0.05). Nevertheless, there was no significant difference in the enamel roughness between the groups. On the other hand, regardless of the presence/absence of the salivary pellicle, a marked decrease in enamel hardness was observed among all groups except for group 3 (sandwich spread) with a mean score of 311.5 ± 82.6 (p < 0.05). A significant increase in surface roughness and reduction in enamel hardness was observed with salad dressings. Background: The acidic component of liquid medicinal syrups used by pediatric patients may cause erosion and partial demineralization. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cheese and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) on erosive lesions of primary teeth enamel following exposure to amoxicillin and ibuprofen syrups. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 60 noncarious deciduous molars were used. After measuring the surface microhardness of the samples, they were randomly separated into two groups and immersed in either amoxicillin or ibuprofen for 1 min three times per day. CPP-ACP, cheese, and artificial saliva were then applied to each of the three subgroups (n = 10). After each immersion time, 10 min of therapy was given. Between treatment intervals, the samples were kept in artificial saliva. The microhardness was remeasured after 1 week. Data were analyzed using SPSS software through repeated-measures ANOVA (α = 0.05). Results: All samples' microhardness reduced considerably after immersion in liquid pharmaceuticals (amoxicillin [84.9 kgf/mm2] and ibuprofen [75.1 kgf/mm2]), but increased significantly following exposure to therapeutic solutions. There was no difference between the amoxicillin-cheese and amoxicillin-CPP-ACP subgroups (P = 0.975). A statistically insignificant difference was found between the ibuprofen group and the ibuprofen-CPP-ACP subgroup (P = 0.499). This study aimed to assess the effects of fluoridated varnishes supplemented with micrometric or nanosized sodium trimetaphosphate (TMPmicro or TMPnano, respectively) against enamel softening in an early erosive model in vitro. Bovine enamel blocks (with mean surface hardness [SH] between 330.0 and 380.0 kgf/mm2) were selected and randomly assigned according to their SH (n = 8) into the following groups: Placebo (no fluoride/TMP; negative control), 5% NaF (positive control), 5% NaF + 5%TMPmicro, 5% NaF + 2.5%TMPnano and 5% NaF + 5%TMPnano. Blocks received a single application of the varnishes and were immersed in artificial saliva (6 h). Thereafter, the varnishes were removed and the blocks were subjected to four individual erosive challenges (1 min, citric acid, 0.75%, pH = 3.5, under agitation); SH was determined after each challenge. Data were subjected to ANOVA and Student–Newman–Keuls' test (p < 0.05). Overall, the highest %SH loss was observed for the Placebo, followed by 5% NaF, 5% NaF + 5% TMPmicro, and both varnishes containing TMPnano, without significant differences between 2.5% and 5% TMPnano. It was concluded that TMP enhanced the effects of a 5% NaF varnish against enamel softening in an early erosive model in vitro, with an additional benefit from the use of nanoparticles over microparticles. Background: The scientific literature has studies that assess the influence of erosive challenges with citric acidic drinks and substances on the adhesive bond strength to enamel and dentin, but does not contain information about the influence of regional components of an acidic diet on this process. Thus, this study evaluated the erosive influence of Amazonian tucupi on enamel and dentin microshear bond strength. Materials and Methods: One hundred and sixty-eight healthy bovine incisors teeth were used, divided into 12 groups (n = 14). For erosive cycling, distilled water (negative control), cola-based soft drink (positive control), or tucupi were used, followed by adhesive strategies of (1) etch-and-rinse (conventional) (Adper™ Single Bond 2) and (2) self-etching (Clearfil SE Bond). All specimens were subjected to erosive cycling for 5 days and, after 24 h, composite resin cylinders were built up for the microshear bond strength test. The data showed normal distribution and were analyzed by two-way ANOVA, followed by the Tukey post and test (P = 0.05). Results: There were no significant differences in enamel (P > 0.05). In dentin, only the groups exposed to cola-based soft drink showed significant differences (P < 0.01). The failure mode showed that Type II (mixed) was predominant (95%). The identified eating disorders include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and/or Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified, predominantly among female subjects, primarily originating from Europe. The evaluated oro-dental outcomes include dental erosion, caries, saliva assessment, hygiene-periodontal parameters, and mucosal tissue appearance. The association with erosion is confirmed while gingival recession, dentinal hypersensitivity, salivary flow thresholds and aspects relating to oral pathology are receiving increasing support from emerging evidence. Discussion: This trend emphasizes the critical role of the complete intraoral examination to detect significant oro-dental signs that may indicate the onset of an ED. Objectives: This study aims to map evidence on the relationship between hard drug use and dental wear. The scoping review is guided by the question: What is the relationship between hard drug consumption and dental wear? Materials and methods: Adhering to PRISMA-ScR guidelines, searches were conducted across PubMed, Embase, and four databases in March 2024. Inclusion criteria included studies investigating the association between hard drug use and dental wear, regardless of publication date or language. Data were presented through narrative exposition, tables, and a conceptual framework. Results: Twenty-eight studies (four case-control, three cross-sectional, five case reports, and sixteen literature reviews) were included. Among case-control studies, 75% observed an association between drug use and dental erosion; however, no cross-sectional studies demonstrated this association. Despite questionable quality, reviews established connections between drug use and dental erosion. Studies aimed to elucidate potential causes for dental erosion. Conclusions: Analysis suggests a potential link between hard drug use and dental wear, though indirect. Factors like bruxism and reduced salivary pH may contribute to dental wear among drug users. Further investigation through primary studies exploring this relationship is necessary. Clinical relevance: Dentists should focus not only on clinical characteristics of dental wear but also on mediating factors such as bruxism and decreased salivary pH associated with drug use. Dental wear arises from mechanical (attrition or abrasion) and chemical (erosion) factors. Despite its prevalence and clinical significance, accurately measuring and understanding its causes remain challenging in everyday practice. This one-year study with 39 participants involved comprehensive examinations and full-arch intraoral scans at the start and after 12 months. Volume loss exceeding 100 µ on each tooth's surfaces (buccal, lingual/palatine and incisal/occlusal) was measured by comparing three-dimensional scans from both time points. This study also assessed factors such as abrasion and erosion through clinical exams and questionnaires. There were no significant differences in dental wear in participants with sleep bruxism. However, noticeable wear occurred in the front teeth of those with waking bruxism and joint-related symptoms. Increased wear was associated with frequent consumption of acidic drinks, regular swimming, dry mouth, nocturnal drooling and heartburn, while no significant wear was found in patients with reflux. The used methodology proved effective in accurately assessing the progression of dental wear, which is important as many patients may initially be asymptomatic. The variability observed in dental wear patterns underscores the need to develop specific software applications that allow immediate and efficient comparison of wear areas based on extensive analysis of patient databases. In pediatric and operative dentistry, caries treatment benefits from a therapeutic option based on the use of silver fluoride (AgF) associated with potassium iodide (KI) to avoid dark colorations on dental tissues. The objective of this in vitro study is to evaluate the retention of glass ionomer cement (GIC) on a dentin when treated with AgF and KI. Twenty-two healthy human permanent molars and eight human primary teeth, all free of any decay, were cut to obtain occlusal flat dentinal surfaces and were then treated with AgF for a duration of 60 s. For half of the teeth, a drop of KI was applied for a duration of 30 s. All samples were covered with a plot of GIC and their resistance to shear bond strength was measured. The fracture resistance in both permanent and primary teeth does not show any statistically significant differences whether KI was applied or not. For permanent teeth, the resistance is slightly higher in the group treated with KI than in the group treated with AgF alone. To our knowledge, these data are the first to describe the possible application of KI both on primary and permanent teeth. In any case, further studies are needed to investigate the bond strength between dentin and GIC on a wider range of samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To investigate the effect of fluoridated solution based on silver nanoparticles (AgNano) associated or not with toothpaste containing high fluoride concentration (TP) on dental erosion. Material and Methods: Ninety-six enamel blocks from bovine incisors were prepared and analyzed for microhardness and initial roughness. Then, divided into 8 experimental groups (n = 12): G1 - brushing with water (H2O); G2 - brushing with TP; G3 - AgNano + TP; G4 - AgNano + H2O; G5 - SDF + TP; G6 - SDF + H2O; G7 - FV + TP; G8 - FV + H2O. SDF, AgNano, and FV were applied and, after 24 hours, all samples were submitted to erosive challenge with 0.3% citric acid (pH 2.6) and brushing with TP or H2O for 5 days. After treatments and erosion challenge, microhardness and roughness were again evaluated. The data were statistically analyzed by ANOVA followed by Tukey's test (microhardness) and Kruskal-Wallis test (roughness), α=0.05. Results: There was no difference between treatments (AgNano, SDF, and FV), (p>0.05); however, brushing with toothpaste with high fluoride concentration significantly decreases loss of enamel microhardness. Conclusion: AgNano associated or not with toothpaste containing high fluoride concentration was not able to reduce dental erosion in the enamel, as well as SDF and FV.

Objective: To evaluate the properties of fermented milk beverages containing probiotics and their potential demineralization on enamel after consumption. Material and Methods: Seven fermented milks were analyzed by titratable acidity and pH, and five were considered for erosive cycling. The beverages' calcium (Ca) and Phosphorus (P) were measured. For measurement of potential erosive, bovine dental enamel blocks (n=8) were individually treated (2 min - 4x/day for five days) with 1% citric acid solution pH 3.5 (control) and strawberry, grape, traditional, and orange fermented milk beverages. At treatment intervals, the blocks were immersed in artificial saliva (1h). The samples were evaluated by profilometry and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) at the end of cycling. The results were submitted to ANOVA and 5% Tukey tests. Results: For titratable acidity, the traditional flavor had the lowest value, 3.36 ± 0.46mmoles, and the grape flavor had the highest value, 10.7 ± 0.1mmoles. The lowest pH value was the strawberry flavor at 3.61 ± 0.07, and the highest was the orange flavor at 4.10 ± 0.07. The orange flavor showed the highest values of Ca (48.19%) and P (9.69%). The fermented milk beverages promoted surface loss; however, citric acid promoted higher values. Conclusion: Fermented milk is an acidic beverage with variations in inorganic components. Their erosive potential is lower compared with citric acid.
