Land change science has become an interdisciplinary research direction for understanding human-natural coupling systems. As a process-oriented modelling approach, agent based model (ABM) plays an important role in revealing the driving forces of land change and understanding the process of land change. This paper starts from three aspects: The theory, application and modeling framework of ABM. First, we summarize the theoretical basis of ABM and introduce some related concepts. Then we expound the application and development of ABM in both urban land systems and agricultural land systems, and further introduce the case study of a model on Grain for Green Program in Hengduan Mountainous region, China. On the basis of combing the ABM modeling protocol, we propose the land system ABM modeling framework and process from the perspective of agents. In terms of urban land use, ABM research initially focused on the study of urban expansion based on landscape, then expanded to issues like urban residential separation, planning and zoning, ecological functions, etc. In terms of agricultural land use, ABM application presents more diverse and individualized features. Research topics include farmers’ behavior, farmers’ decision-making, planting systems, agricultural policy, etc. Compared to traditional models, ABM is more complex and difficult to generalize beyond specific context since it relies on local knowledge and data. However, due to its unique bottom-up model structure, ABM has an indispensable role in exploring the driving forces of land change and also the impact of human behavior on the environment.

Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common arrhythmia, is a major cause of stroke and systemic embolism. Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) has been proved to be noninferior to traditional Vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) as well as novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs), which is becoming an important alternative to prevent stroke in non‐valvular AF. Catheter‐based AF ablation (CA) is recommended to be a standard of care in patients with AF refractory to drug therapy due to a better rhythm control and improvement of life quality than antiarrhythmic drugs. Theoretically, the one‐stop combination with LAAC and CA tends to bring more benefits in patients with AF, as it not only relieves symptoms, but also reduces the risk of stroke significantly. However, several important questions still need to be considered in the combination procedure although quite a few attempts have already been made in clinical practice. This review provides a comprehensive update on the concept, technique, perioperative management, benefits and other critical issues of the “one‐stop” procedure.

Background Chlorogenic acid is a type of phenolic acid found in many plants. Chlorogenic acid has an anti-obesity effect with an unclear mechanism. The present study aimed to investigate the regulatory effect of chlorogenic acid on energy balance in high-fat diet (HFD) induced obese C57BL/6J mice administrated 100 mg kg-1 chlorogenic acid for 13 weeks. Results The consumption of chlorogenic acid ameliorated HFD induced obesity. Chlorogenic acid did not change the physical activity but significantly decreased food intake and increased body temperature, thermal dissipation and brown adipose tissue activity. Moreover, chlorogenic acid improved glucose tolerance but had a moderate impact on other blood indices. Additionally, chlorogenic acid failed to restore the microbiota change associated with HFD induced obesity, but modified the gut bacterial composition in a unique way. Conclusion Supplementation with chlorogenic acid can improve HFD induced obesity and associated glucose intolerance mainly via regulating food intake and energy expenditure. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

When using controlled blasting technology to demolish a building, the blasting vibration caused by the blasting process may harm the surrounding structure of the blasting area. To study the influence of blasting vibration on the adjacent subway structure, this paper takes the blasting demolition of a building in Chengdu as an example, analyzes the load during the blasting process, establishes the stratum-structure and load-structure finite element models of the subway structure, and simulates the dynamic response process of the structure, and then studies the safety impact of blasting demolition vibration on the adjacent subway structure. Studies have shown that: under the blasting construction scheme in this paper, the impact of blasting vibration on the subway structure is within a safe and controllable range.

The white-backed planthopper, Sogatella furcifera, is a phloem sap feeder that secretes watery and gelling saliva during feeding. In this study, we identified the major proteins in watery saliva of S. furcifera by shotgun LC-MS/MS analysis combined with transcriptomic analysis. A total of 161 proteins were identified, which were divided into 8 function categories, including enzymes, transporter, calcium ion binding protein, salivary sheath protein, cytoskeleton protein, DNA-, RNA-, and protein-binding or regulating proteins, other non-enzyme proteins and unknown proteins. Gene expression pattern of 11 secretory proteins were analyzed by real time quantitative-PCR. We detected the mucin-like protein, which had a unique expression level in salivary gland, most likely to be a candidate effector involved in regulation of plant defense. This study identified the watery saliva component of S. furcifera and it provided a list of proteins which may play a role in interaction between S. furcifera and rice.

We describe preparation of a ZSM-5 zeolite membrane, used for separation of benzothiophene and 3-methylthiophene from their n-hexane solutions. We have established the effect of the feed flow rate, the membrane operating time, filtration pressure, and concentration of sulfur compounds in the feed on the membrane flux. As the membrane flux increases, the desulfurization ratio gradually decreases. Filtration was carried out in two modes: cross-flow filtration and end-filtration. The separation factor and the desulfurization ratio were higher in cross-flow filtration.

Solid adsorbents Cu+-13X and Cu+-13X loaded with La element were prepared by ion-exchange method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to characterize the structure of the prepared zeolite. Adsorption of thiophene with different groups over the two adsorbents was investigated by static adsorption equilibrium and kinetic test. Static equilibrium data were correlated based on the Langmuir model and the modified Langmuir model. Kinetic data were fitted very well by Crank diffusion model. The results revealed that the adsorption capacity of single component over the Cu+-13X loaded with La element increased about 10% as compared to the non-doped Cu+-13X. Fitting results of ηi and De illustrated that loading of the La element into zeolite could change the interaction force between binary components. The kinetic test showed that the competitive adsorption became moderate, and thus resulted in the improvement of the total desulfurization capacity.

The phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)-AKT signaling pathway is considered to play an important role in tumorigenesis. Frequent somatic mutations in the PI3K subunit p110a (PIK3CA) occur in a variety of cancer types. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between PIK3CA mutation in breast cancer and pathological features and outcome of patients.The PIK3CA mutations in exons 7, 9, 20 were screened in 250 primary breast cancers using PCR and fluorescent (F)-SSCP, and the results were analyzed according to their cliniopathological data.The frequency of PIK3CA mutations among the 250 cases was 35.2% (88/250), point mutations in exon 7 were found in 8 (3.2%) cases,40 (16.0%) cases in exon 9 and 47 (18.8%) cases in exon 20. No significant correlation between PIK3CA mutation and age, histological type, differentiation, and lymph node metastasis was observed. Mutations were associated with larger tumor size (P = 0.004) and positive estrogen receptor status (P = 0.008). Patients with PIK3CA mutations showed a significantly worse survival (P = 0.004), particularly in those with positive estrogen receptor expression or non-amplified HER-2 (both P = 0.002).PIK3CA mutations may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and development of breast cancer. The association with large tumor size, ER+ and poor survival indicates that PIK3CA mutation could be an independent factor for tumor malignant phenotype and prognosis.

Pressure ulcers are a major clinical problem, with a large burden on healthcare resources. This study evaluated the effects of the heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycan mimetic, OTR4120, on pressure ulceration and healing. Ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) was evoked to induce pressure ulcers by external clamping and then removal of a pair of magnet disks on rat dorsal skin for a single ischemic period of 16 hours. Immediately after magnet removal, rats received an intramuscular injection of OTR4120 weekly for up to 1 month. During the ischemic period, normal skin perfusion was reduced by at least 60% and at least 20-45% reperfused into the ischemic region after compression release. This model caused sustained skin incomplete necrosis for up to 14 days and led to grade 2-3 ulcers. OTR4120 treatment decreased the area of skin incomplete necrosis and degree of ulceration. OTR4120 treatment also reduced inflammation and increased angiogenesis. In OTR4120-treated ulcers, the contents of vascular endothelial growth factor, platelet-derived growth factor, and transforming growth factor beta-1 were increased. Moreover, OTR4120 treatment promoted early expression of alpha-smooth muscle actin and increased collagen biosynthesis. Long-term restoration of wounded tissue biomechanical strength was significantly enhanced after OTR4120 treatment. Taken together, we conclude that OTR4120 treatment reduces pressure ulcer formation and potentiates the internal healing bioavailability.

Effects of pressure and/or magnetism on the critical superconducting temperature (Tc) of δ-MoN single crystal were investigated using a Maglab system. The δ-MoN single crystal was synthesized at extreme conditions of high pressure and high temperature. The carrier density of δ-MoN single crystal as a function of applied pressure was determined using Hall coefficient measurement.
