Analisamos o filme A terra das almas errantes (2000), de Rithy Panh, partindo da hipótese de que seus procedimentos esboçam uma forma de mise-en-scène que será, posteriormente, central ao dispositivo de S-21: a máquina de morte do Khmer Vermelho (2002). Nos dois filmes, Panh dá espaço para os filmados criarem a sua própria encenação e também intervém na cena, fazendo da relação entre filmador e filmado um campo de experimentação que produz questões e efeitos no interior da realização fílmica que tomarão a forma da mise-en-scène dialógica.

A 39-year-old man presented with peripheral eosinophilia, pulmonary eosinophilic infiltrate, and renal failure due to acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN). He had experienced childhood asthma and was negative for anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA). He was tentatively diagnosed with ANCA-negative eosinophilic granulomatous polyangiitis (EGPA) or idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES). Renal involvement of isolated TIN with eosinophil infiltration is rare in EGPA and HES and does not seem to have a good prognosis in the literature. However, his condition improved well with corticosteroids and mepolizumab. The revised classification of EGPA based on the etiology should dictate the proper treatment in suspected EGPA patients with nonsystemic vasculitis.

CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Esta pesquisa se dedica ao estudo da filmografia do cineasta cambojano Rithy Panh, em seu esforço de elaboração do passado traumático do seu país. Buscou-se analisar quatro documentários do diretor que abordam o genocídio perpetrado pelo regime do Khmer Vermelho no Camboja, no período de 1975 a 1979. Para compreender o trabalho de memória realizado pelo cineasta, a tese se apoiou em estudos da filosofia da história (Walter Benjamin) e da psicanálise (Freud e Lacan). A análise fílmica investigou a relação peculiar entre quem filma e quem é filmado, as narrativas de testemunho e a ressignificação das imagens de arquivo. Foram identificadas quatro modalidades de elaboração cinematográfica da memória coletiva cambojana: a nomeação em Bophana, uma tragédia cambojana (1996), o encontro em S-21, a máquina de morte do Khmer Vermelho (2002), o confronto em Duch, o mestre das forjas do inferno (2011) e a rememoração em A imagem que falta (2013). This research studies the filmography of Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh, in his effort in the elaboration of the traumatic past of his country. We sought to analyze four of his documentaries that address the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, from 1975 to 1979. To understand the filmmaker's work of memory, the thesis was based on studies of the philosophy of history (Walter Benjamin) and psychoanalysis (Freud and Lacan). The film analysis investigated the peculiar relationship between who films and who is filmed, the testimony narratives and the resignification of archival images. Four modalities of cinematographic elaboration of Cambodian collective memory were identified: the nomination in Bophana, a Cambodian Tragedy (1996), the encounter in S-21: The Khmer Rouge Killing machine (2002), the confrontation in Duch, Master of the Forges of Hell (2011) and the remembrance in The Missing Picture (2013).

Background Although the relationship between allergic sensitization and increased respiratory symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been suggested, which allergen has a significant effect on COPD pathology is unclear. This study aimed to identify the specific IgE related to clinical features of COPD and the diagnosis of asthma-COPD overlap (ACO). Methods We recruited 76 patients with COPD and analyzed 39 IgE using panel IgE test (View Allergy 39®). ACO was diagnosed according to the Japanese Respiratory Society Guidelines. Results As for perennial aeroallergens, the positivity for moth (31.5%), Candida (23.7%), Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (22.4%) and house dust (22.4%), and concerning pollen, Japanese cedar (35.5%) and Japanese cypress (22.2%) exceeded 20%. Only the positivity of IgE for Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and house dust was significantly higher in ACO compared with that in non-ACO COPD. Moreover, it contributed to the diagnosis of ACO in an IgE class-dependent manner. Patients with cockroach IgE exhibited higher residual volume, whereas those with Japanese cedar IgE exhibited better diffusion capacity than negative patients. The contribution for ACO diagnosis by the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was comparable among total IgE (cutoff value: 158 IU/mL), blood eosinophil count (234/μL), and fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (31.0 ppb). Conclusions The prominent role of mite-specific IgE in the diagnosis and pathology of ACO and the potentially detrimental effect of cockroach sensitization on air trapping in COPD were suggested. The finding highlights the future development of a treatment targeting IgE as a treatable trait in COPD.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common comorbidity among patients with asthma. In addition, functional dyspepsia (FD) is characterized by upper abdominal symptoms without organic disease manifestations. However, the prevalence of FD among patients with asthma remains uninvestigated; therefore, herein, we investigated the prevalence of dyspepsia symptoms in these patients.We recruited 156 patients with asthma from the outpatient clinic of Teikyo University Hospital and investigated the prevalence of dyspepsia symptoms using the modified Frequency Scale for the Symptoms of GERD. Further, the relationship between dyspepsia symptoms and clinical background of asthma was also investigated.Certain digestive organ symptoms were exhibited by 83% of patients with asthma, dyspepsia symptoms by 44%, and reflux symptoms by 26%. The dyspepsia-dominant group showed significantly higher female ratio and numerically lower %FEVA considerable proportion of patients with asthma exhibited dyspepsia symptoms, and the asthma severity in patients with dyspepsia was higher than those in asymptomatic patients. Based on the current findings, more attention should be directed to FD, in addition to GERD, as a comorbidity of the digestive system in patients with asthma.

Este trabalho analisa a retomada das fotografias de identificação tiradas na prisão S-21 em quatro documentários de Rithy Panh: Bophana, a cambodian tragedy (1996), S-21: The Khmer Rouge Killing Machine (2002), Duch, The Master of the Forges of Hell (2011) e The Missing Picture (2013). Buscamos analisar as variações dos procedimentos cinematográficos da retomada das fotografias, considerando-as como exercício incessante de interpretação dentro da própria forma fílmica que não toma os sentidos dos arquivos como dados, mas construídos pelos recursos expressivos do documentário. Partindo dos filmes em direção à teoria, aproximamos nossas análises as reflexões sobre a narrativa da história de Walter Benjamin, Theodor W. Adorno, Márcio Seligmann-Silva e Jeanne Marie Gagnebin, para pensar de que modo os documentários fazem uma elaboração do passado e uma recomposição da memória por meio da figura cinematográfica de nomeação.

O artigo analisa o filme Duch, le maître des forges de l’enfer (Duch, o mestre das forjas do inferno, 2012), de Rithy Panh, a partir das considerações sobre o estabelecimento de uma relação com o inimigo formuladas por Comolli em 2008. Dentro das narrativas das catástrofes, em que é preciso dar conta de um passado traumático, o testemunho e o uso de arquivos na produção de espaços de memória são feitos, em sua maioria, sob o ponto de vista das vítimas. O filme traz outra perspectiva ao trabalhar contra o esquecimento por meio da palavra do ditador. Cabe à obra confrontar como Kaing Guek Eav tenta tomar a palavra, usando para isso situações na mise-en-scène e de associações na montagem. This article analyzes the film Duch, le maître des forges de l’enfer (Duch, the master of the forges of hell, 2012) by Rithy Panh, from the considerations of establishing a relationship with the enemy elaborated by Comolli in 2008. Within the narratives of catastrophes, where a traumatic past must be dealt with, the testimony and the use of archives in the production of historical memories are mostly done from the victims’ point of view. The film brings another perspective when facing oblivion through a dictator’s word. Thus, the film must confront Kaing Guek Eav’s attempts to take the floor by creating situations in the mise-en-scène and associations in its montage.

A 60‐year‐old female with severe bronchial asthma developed persistent dyspnoea and an abnormal lung shadow. High‐resolution computed tomography (HRCT) demonstrated patchy ground‐glass opacities and diffuse, small nodular shadows. Elevated percentages of eosinophils were observed in the blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. These results collectively indicated that her asthma was accompanied by eosinophilic pneumonia and eosinophilic bronchiolitis. Although previous, rare case reports suggest that systemic steroid therapy is necessary and effective for the control of eosinophilic bronchiolitis, we chose to treat her with an anti‐interleukin 5 antibody, mepolizumab. Her asthma, eosinophilic pneumonia, and eosinophilic bronchiolitis each improved in response to mepolizumab as assessed from her symptoms, pulmonary function tests, and HRCT. Mepolizumab might be effective not only for asthma and eosinophilic pneumonia but also for eosinophilic bronchiolitis.

Propomos a análise e a comparação de dois filmes que tratam do centro de tortura e extermínio de Toul Sleng, conhecido pelo codinome S21, que operou durante o regime do Khmer Vermelho no Camboja: Inside Pol Pot's secret prison (2002), produzido por A&E Home Video para o The History Channel, e S21, A máquina de morte do Khmer Vermelho (2002), dirigido por Rithy Panh. Partimos da premissa de uma posição contrastante entre os documentários com relação à história determinada por seus modos específicos de articulação dos componentes imagem e som. Apostamos na contribuição de Régis Debray para pensar essas diferenças a partir de suas proposições acerca da contraposição entre a imagem do cinema e o visual da TV. Para construir passagens entre os filmes e as proposições de Debray, construiremos nossa argumentação com base na análise dos recursos audiovisuais.

Hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon (µc-Si:H) films were prepared by inductive coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) system using internal low inductance antenna (LIA) units on various under layer composed of Si, O, and N. The resultant changes in the crystallinity of the µc-Si:H films were investigated using Raman scattering spectroscopy and the details of the interface structure were observed by high resolution transmission electron microscope. We had found that µc-Si:H film on the SiN x layer treated by O 2 plasma has good interface quality. The highly crystallized µc-Si:H films with no amorphous incubation layer at interface of Si/SiN x could be directly deposited on the SiN x layer.

A novel inductively-coupled RF plasma source with internal low-inductance antenna (LIA) units was developed to synthesize microcrystalline silicon (µc-Si) film on a large glass substrate. A film thickness profile on a 600×720 mm2 glass substrate was achieved with high plasma uniformity and a variation of less than ±5% without a standing-wave effect. Raman and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis revealed that highly crystallized µc-Si films, which were directly deposited on a glass substrate, were synthesized without an amorphous-phase incubation layer at the substrate interface. A bottom-gate thin-film transistor (BG-TFT) was fabricated employing an optimized µc-Si layer and exhibited a field-effect mobility of 3 cm2/(Vs), which is one order higher than that of a typical amorphous silicon TFT.

The keV neutron capture cross section of 62 Ni was measured using an anti-Compton Nal(Tl) spectrometers.Prompt discrete γ -rays feeding from a neutron capture state of 62 Ni to low-lying excited states were observed. The Maxwellin-aver aged cross section at 30 keV is derived to be 37.5 mb, which is 2.9 times larger than the value used in the calculation of nucleosynthetic yields of massive stars. The observation of discrete γ -rays is crucial to unambiguously determine the small neutron cross section of 62 Ni.

The neutron capture cross section of 62Ni has been measured in the energy range from 5.5 to 90 keV by employing a prompt discrete γ-ray detection method with the use of an anti-Compton NaI(Tl) spectrometer. The Maxwellian-averaged capture cross section at 30 keV is derived as being 37.0 ± 3.2 mbarn, 3 times larger than the value currently used for the nucleosynthetic yield estimations in massive stars. The result could provide crucial information for the long-standing problem of the largest overproduction of 62Ni. The intense discrete γ-ray feeding from a neutron capture state to the ground state of 63Ni was for the first time observed at stellar neutron energy. This observation and the neutron energy dependence of the total neutron capture cross section of 62Ni indicate clearly that the dominant capture process of 62Ni is a nonresonant direct s-wave capture process and not a p-wave capture process as previously predicted.

The objective was to determine the presence and frequency of micrometastasis in lymph nodes of patients with rectal cancer treated by preoperative chemoradiation followed by curative resection.All 56 patients included were treated with 5-FU and leucovorin plus 5,040 cGy, followed by radical surgery and were diagnosed with stage II distal rectal adenocarcinoma after complete pathological examination (ypT3-4N0M0). Immunohistochemistry was assessed with cytokeratin monoclonal antibody AE1/AE3. Three 4-microm paraffin sections were obtained from each lymph node, cut at 50 microm apart from each other. The results were reviewed by two independent pathologists.Mean number of lymph nodes was 9.6 per patient. Four patients (7%) and seven lymph nodes (1.35%) were positive for micrometastasis. Three patients had pT3 and one a pT4 tumor. One of the patients had positive micrometastasis and the presence of mucinous deposits. One other patient had mucinous deposits without any micrometastasis. All four patients are alive with no evidence of recurrent disease. Fourteen patients negative for micrometastasis had recurrent disease (25%), eight systemic (14.7%) and six locoregional (10.3%). There were two cancer-related deaths. The mean follow-up period was 39 months.Patients with rectal cancer treated by preoperative chemoradiation showed a surprisingly low rate of micrometastasis detection (7%), even in high-risk patients (T3 and T4 tumors). Lymph node micrometastasis was not associated with decreased overall or disease-free survival. The identification of mucinous deposits on lymph nodes with no viable tumor cells may be direct evidence of lymph node downstaging. The downstaging effect of preoperative chemoradiation therapy may be significant in reducing even micrometastasis detection in low rectal cancer managed by this treatment strategy.

It has been reported that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma) ligands ameliorate the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) by endotoxin. In the present study, we investigated the effect of pioglitazone, a potent PPAR-gamma ligand, on the endotoxin-induced reduction of hepatic drug-metabolizing enzyme activity and on the down-regulation of the expression of hepatic cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A2 and CYP2C11 proteins in rats. Endotoxin (1 mg/kg) significantly decreased hepatic drug-metabolizing enzyme activity in vivo, as represented by the systemic clearance of antipyrine and protein levels of CYP3A2 and CYP2C11 24 h after intraperitoneal injection. Pretreatment with pioglitazone (10 mg/kg, 4 times at 10-min intervals) significantly protected the endotoxin-induced decreases in the systemic clearance of antipyrine and protein levels of CYP3A2, but not CYP2C11, with no biochemical and histopathological changes in the liver. Pioglitazone alone had no effect on the systemic clearance of antipyrine and protein levels of CYP3A2 or CYP2C11. Pioglitazone significantly protected endotoxin-induced overexpression of iNOS in the liver, but not the overproduction of nitric oxide (NO) in plasma. It is unlikely that the protective effect of pioglitazone against endotoxin-induced decreases in the hepatic drug-metabolizing enzyme activity and protein levels of CYP3A2 in the liver is due to the inhibition of the overproduction of NO.

A system for liquefying a gaseous sample has been constructed in order to study the neutron-capture reaction of a sample using keV neutrons. It consists of a cryostat with a refrigeration system, a temperature-control system, a gas-handling system, and a vacuum system. It can liquefy all gaseous samples (except for He). Since we use a small amount of a compound of light elements, such as polycarbonate and acrylic resin, as the vacuum cell and the sample cell, we can measure the small neutron capture cross section of a sample having a few μb with a high S/N value by employing a prompt γ-ray detection method. The system has been shown to operate continuously for a long-term experiment using natural Ne gas without any problem.

A fast (keV) neutron is a unique probe for studying important problems on nuclear astrophysics as well as on nuclear physics, and the neutron is produced by several reactions such as nucleon exchange reaction, photo-nuclear reaction, and spallation reaction. Among the neutrons produced by these reactions the spallation neutron has characteristic features such as a white energy spectrum and a well collimated beam. In this study, the neutron flux of the spallation neutron source (KENS) was measured from thermal energy to 90 keV: the flux at 30 keV is about 12 n/(cm2 s eV) at a sample position 7.34 m from the water moderator for the proton beam current of 5 μA, comparable to the flux obtained by the 7 Li(p, n) 7 Be reaction for the proton beam current of 10 μA at a sample position 12 cm from the 7 Li target. The measured flux was compared to a calculated one using a Monte-Carlo code.
