Professionalism is a fundamental concept in nursing and a central aspect of nursing care. The review aimed to synthesize evidence presented in qualitative studies related to the perception of professionalism in nursing practice. Six main analytical themes were generated from primary studies included in the literature review: everyday practice, ethical aspects of nursing care, nurses' identity, nurses' professional growth, achieving autonomy, complexity of relationships. Presented themes are considered key elements of nursing professionalism, are closely interconnected, and support the multidimensional structure of professionalism in nursing. Aim. To identify and compare research results aimed at determining the incidence of aggression of hospitalized patients towards nurses using Violence and Aggression of Patients Scale (VAPS) and the Perceptions of Prevalence of Aggression Scale (POPAS) measuring tools. Material and methods. The sample consisted of 1012 nurses from selected healthcare settings in the Czech Republic. Data was collected from June to November 2018. Identification of the occurrence of aggression of hospitalized patients towards nurses was performed using two measuring tools: POPAS and VAPS. Both tools describe specific forms of aggressive behaviour. Results. We identified a very high incidence of aggression of hospitalized patients towards nurses. As much as 97% of respondents encountered various manifestations and forms of aggression from patients, 61.96% of respondents encountered physical aggression (spitting, biting, scratching, pinching), and 76.4% experienced verbal aggression. A significant difference was identified between results obtained with POPAS and VAPS. Conclusions. With the use of two reliable measuring tools, we identified different experiences with aggression of hospitalized patients towards nurses in the same set of respondents, which points to the issue of comparing results of the incidence patient aggression towards nurses identified by different measuring tools. Aim: The aim of research was to describe self-care changes in two patients with Parkinson´s disease (PD) who were living in the home environment. Methods: For the method of data collection was used semi-structured interviews, structured observation, medical record´s analysis and chosen measuring tools. The main source of information was two patients diagnosed for PD. The secondarily source of information was the family relatives and the medical records. Results: Principally in relation with primary symptoms (with motor impairments) of Parkinson´s disease were identified patient´s problems in areas activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). Conclusion: Patients from initial stages of Parkinson´s disease are confronted with reduction of functional status with partial loss of self-sufficiency in realization ADL and IADL. Nursing care must be oriented at maintaining the maximum extent of self-sufficiency already in the early stages of Parkinson´s disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Trust is an essential phenomenon of relationship between patients and healthcare professionals and can be described as an accepted vulnerability to the power of another person over something that one cares about in virtue of goodwill toward the trustor. This characterization of interpersonal trust appears to be adequate for patients suffering from chronic illness. Trust is especially important in the context of chronic cardiovascular diseases as one of the main global health problems., Research Aim: The purpose of the qualitative study was to gain a deeper understanding of how people with chronic cardiovascular disease experience and make sense of trust in healthcare professionals., Research Design: Eleven semi-structured interviews with participants analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis to explore in detail their lived experience of trust as a relational phenomenon., Participants and Research Context: Participants with chronic cardiovascular disease were purposively recruited from inpatients on the cardiology ward of the university hospital located in central Slovakia., Ethical Considerations: The study was approved by the faculty ethics committee. Participants gave their written informed consent., Findings Four Interrelated Group Experiential Themes: Sense of co-existence ; Belief in competence ; Will to help ; Ontological security with eight subthemes were identified.
