In the Romanian legal system, usucaption is an original way of acquiring property rights. In court actions for the establishment of the existence of the right of ownership by virtue of usucaption, the question of the passive procedural quality has frequently been raised. The general rule is that the defendant is represented by the titleholder of the property to be usucaptioned. However, in practice there are different situations which need to be adapted to each individual situation. This paper aims to present the most common situations regarding the passive legal standing in actions for the establishment of ownership by virtue of usucaption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

3D textile ,Digital Image Correlation ,Textile reinforced cement (TRC) ,spacer ,transversal connection - Abstract
Discrete spacers allow to transversally connect planar textiles and to transform them into pseudo-3D architectures. These 3D textiles can provide the optimal reinforcement in cement composites as the concrete casting process is enhanced and the textile placement within the mould is well-controlled. This research investigated the effect of discrete spacer connections on the flexural properties and cracking behaviour of TRCs and performed a comparison with equivalent 2D TRC systems (same in-plane textiles but without connections) and with knitted 3D textiles. Additional investigated parameters were the material of the reinforcement (glass, carbon) and the density of the textile (fibre volume fraction of the composite). A four-point bending experimental campaign was conducted on four different textile configurations containing (i) no connections (ref), (ii) four spacer connections distributed over the shear zone, (iii) nine spacer connections distributed over the entire length between the supports (both shear and constant moment zone) and (iv) 3D knitted connections. The spacer connections resulted in a pronounced post-cracking stiffness increase and a positive influence on the crack formation of the TRC. Their influence was however dependent on the fibre volume fraction (Vf) of the in-plane reinforcement; configurations with a higher Vf required a higher degree of connections to showing a post-cracking stiffness increase.

Acute liver failure is a highly unpredictable disease that can evolve to a life-threatening situation within few hours. In a simplified manner, acute liver failure is the acute liver dysfunction with multiorgan damaging associated with numerous complications, and very poor prognosis, being caused by varied etiologies. Despite the numerous advances on pathophysiology, intensive care treatment, and transplantation techniques from the last decades, is still characterized by increased mortality. At present, the patients with acute liver failure should be managed in Intensive Care Unit where the therapy should be applied based on the specific etiology of the acute liver failure and it should be started as early as possible.

- Abstract
The early validation of components specifications requires a proven correct formalization of the functional behavior. We use the ACL2 theorem prover the establish safety properties on it. After the first design step, we automatically translate the synthesizable VHDL into a functional form. The combination of symbolic simulation, automatic transfer function extraction, and theorem proving is used to show that the VHDL design is functionally compliant to the specification. The approach is demonstrated on a SHA-1 cryptographic circuit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
We present a new methodology that permits to reuse an existing hardware component that has not been developed within the B framework while maintaining a correct design flow. It consists of writing a specification of the component in B and proving that the VHDL description of the component implements the specification using the ACL2 system. This paper focuses on the translation of the B specification into ACL2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Our study was part of a project aiming at the design and verification of a circuit for secure communications between a computer and a terminal smart card reader. A SHA-1 component is included in the circuit. SHA-1 is a cryptographic primive that produces, for any message, a 160 bit message digest. We formalize the standard specification in ACL2, then automatically produce the ACL2 model for the VHDL RTL design; finally, we prove the implementation compliant with the specification. We apply a stepwise approach that proves theorems about each computation step of the RTL design, using intermediate digest functions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AFLATOXINS ,NUTS ,PLASTICS in packaging ,METABOLITES ,FOOD contamination ,POLYETHYLENE terephthalate ,PLASTICS - Abstract
Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by various fungi. A very important category of mycotoxins are aflatoxins, considered to be the most dangerous in humans. Aflatoxin B
1 , well known as a favorable factor in the occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma in humans, is the most controversial of all mycotoxins. Aflatoxins, found in naturally contaminated food, are resistant to degradation by heat. Current food processing practices and conventional storage conditions do not completely eliminate aflatoxin contamination from the food supply chain. Long storage food products—such as peanuts, pistachio, nuts in general, and dried fruits—are susceptible to aflatoxins contamination. The type of plastic material can influence the concentration of aflatoxins during storage due to the permeability to gas and moisture exchange with the external milieu. Nuts in general and dried fruits are consumed in large quantities worldwide. Therefore, herein we investigated the effect of plastic material on the total aflatoxins and aflatoxin B1 content in 64 samples of nuts and dried fruits packed and stored in low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The method consisted in a cleanup procedure using immunoaffinity columns coupled with RIDASCREEN FAST immunoenzymatic competitive assays based on the ELISA technique. Collected data were subjected to statistical analysis and multiple comparisons tests were applied. From the total analyzed samples, 14.06% exceeded the maximum admitted European levels for total aflatoxins. The highest concentrations of total aflatoxins were obtained from samples packed in LDPE, followed by PP, PE, and PET. Aflatoxin B1 was detected in all samples packed in LDPE, PP, and PE. Most of the samples packed in PET had concentrations <1 µg/kg. These results indicate that nuts in general packed and stored in LDPE are more prone to contamination with aflatoxins, while PET is more suitable for maintaining the quality and safety of these products. - Abstract
INTRODUCTION: COPD exacerbation represents a condition determined by the respiratory system`s incapacity to maintain good alveolar ventilation, with hypoxemia, hypercapnia and respiratory acidosis. Subsequently, there are cardiovascular and neurological complications with vital risk for the patient. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between 2012 and February 2014 we used noninvasive ventilation in 7 cases diagnosed with COPD and respiratory failure. Some of them, which had severe exacerbation, were directly admitted in the Intensive Care Unit and needed tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation. After improving, they were transferred in our department and continued noninvasive ventilation with BIPAP- ST on facial mask. The initial pressures were 4/8 cm H2O and were modifi ed based on arterial blood gas and acid-base balance. The noninvasive ventilation was used in daytime in four periods of two hours and six hours in the night. RESULTS: The patients had a good and rapid recovery with carbon dioxide level lowered almost to the normal values and concomitantly with oxygen partial pressure growth. The patients could be mobilized after a few days and in 7-10 days were discharged. Most of them now use NIV only in the night and have a better quality of life. CONCLUSIONS: NIV introduction in our department practice determined a faster recovery of severe patients with shortening hospital admittance and costs lowering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate and provide insight into the prevalence and patterns of off-label drug use in the pediatric population from the perspective of community pharmacists, addressing the existing data gap in a developing setting., Methods: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted on Albanian community pharmacists in June 2021. The online administered survey explored the participants' demographic details, perceptions, and experiences with off-label prescriptions in pediatric patients. The statistical analysis conducted on the survey data comprised the construction of frequency tables and the application of the chi-square test for independence., Key Findings: Three hundred and thirty-six community pharmacists nationwide completed the survey, out of which 186 (55.3%) were practiced in Tirana, the capital of Albania. Over 80% of surveyed pharmacists (n = 275) had encountered off-label drug prescriptions in pediatric patients, yet only 40% of participants reported dispensing medicines for off-label use. Community pharmacists reported that general pediatricians tended to prescribe off-label medications more frequently than pediatric subspecialists or general practitioners. It was found that off-label prescriptions were more frequently observed among children aged between 2 and 11 years. Antibiotics were the most reported medicines for off-label use in this study mentioned in almost all off-label categories., Conclusions: Prescribing medicines for unapproved uses for the treatment of pediatric patients is present in community settings in Albania. This indicates the need for further data collection and analysis to understand off-label practices in our country's pediatric population comprehensively., (© The Author(s) 2024.
