By examining the sedimentary records from two new cores collected from the Sabrina Coast slope, we have developed an age model spanning from the late Pliocene to the present. From multiproxy sediment analyses of the piston and kasten core, PC03, and KC03, collected during the IN2017_V01 survey on the Sabrina Coast (East Antarctica) offshore the Totten Glacier, we here present the outcomes derived within the seismostratigraphic record coupled with the sedimentological, geochemical paleomagnetic, and biostratigraphic contexts. Our results highlight that the area has been affected by recurrent sediment slides facilitated by siliceous deposits, both biogenic and from an unprecedented tephra layer, during some of the major paleoclimatological events of the late Pliocene. Diatoms contributed not only to the biostratigraphic and depositional environmental definition but also to the instability of the slope, together with the tephra layer, as documented offshore the Sabrina–Aurora Basin for the first time.

O crescimento do futebol feminino mundial vem abrindo possibilidades para que cada vez mais tenham profissionais interessados na modalidade. O treinamento de goleiras de futebol feminino está evoluindo com a modalidade, dentro disso o desempenho de altura de salto em goleiras de futebol feminino é algo relevante. Assim, o objetivo do estudo foi conduzir uma revisão sistemática a fim de verificar o desempenho na altura de salto de goleiras de futebol feminino. A busca foi realizada nas bases de dados PubMed e SPORTDiscus em janeiro de 2023 e foram encontrados 109 artigos, dos quais 8 foram incluídos. A avaliação de salto mais utilizada foi o countermovement jump e o equipamento mais utilizado foi o tapete de contato. Os valores de desempenho de salto vertical variaram de 20,65 ± 5,05 até 54,00 cm. Assim, devido a variação dos resultados encontrados, sugere-se que os responsáveis pelas análises verifiquem se os dados de perfil do estudo estão de acordo com o contexto em que serão utilizados como parâmetros no planejamento do treinamento das goleiras de futebol feminino.

Abstract Excess harvesting power can threaten the long-term sustainability of fisheries. Indicators of excess harvesting capacity must include input–output-based estimates of economic production efficiency. The increasing use of drifting Fish-Aggregating-Devices (DFADs) has boosted fishing productivity in high-seas tuna fisheries, perhaps beyond the biological capacity of the stocks, and is an object of global debate. We carried out a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) of relative changes in production efficiencies of the French purse-seine fleet targeting tropical tuna in the western Indian Ocean using two fishing strategies: (1) on floating objects (FOB) and (2) free swimming schools (FSC) using tuna catch and effort data spanning 1992–2019. We show that FOB fishing evolved dramatically through time with an estimated change of 3.6%yr−1 (8.0%yr−1 2007–2019), in contrast to 2.1%yr−1 for FSC. While the efficiency level in combining and using inputs has barely changed for FOB fishing, it means that all the growth in productivity comes from technical change for this strategy. The dynamics is different for the FSC with a mixture of innovation and higher efficiency. Immediate plans to improve input-based management in this region are needed to prevent further risks of overfishing to yellowfin (Thunnus albacares) and skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) tunas.

We explored patterns of benthic diatom composition across sixty-two high-elevation alpine lakes spanning a wide range of nitrogen (N) concentrations due to atmospheric deposition and background variation in lake and watershed characteristics. Our goals were to (1) assess the effect of lake water N concentration on benthic diatom composition during late summer or fall conditions and (2) identify policy-relevant response thresholds. The analyses were carried out on a large set of diatom and water chemistry data, integrated with new data. Multivariate and correlation analyses revealed associations between pH, N concentration, and benthic diatom composition, but the effects of pH and N were confounded. However, partial correlation analysis allowed us to identify “N-responsive diatoms”; that is, diatom taxa with nonspurious associations with N. Focusing on these taxa, we detected a decline in the abundance of taxa preferring low N concentrations and an increase in the abundance of taxa preferring high N concentrations starting at NO3 concentrations of approximately 5 µmol L−1. We interpreted this shift as an effect of watershed N saturation due to atmospheric deposition. Based on the results, we suggest a late-summer or fall concentration threshold of 5 µmol NO3 L−1 to prevent change in benthic diatoms in high-elevation alpine lakes.

A utilização das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação (TICs) é constante em nosso cotidiano. No contexto educacional, elas oferecem possibilidades pedagógicas cada vez mais recorrentes. Considerando essa realidade, o artigo tem por objetivo apresentar uma pesquisa que buscou investigar e compreender processos pedagógicos mediados pelas TICs na educação profissional e tecnológica. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida como um estudo de caso envolvendo 5 professores e 73 estudantes de cursos técnicos de diferentes instituições de ensino do município em Santa Rosa, no Rio Grande do Sul. A metodologia aplicada incluiu revisão de literaturas, realização de entrevistas e aplicação de questionários. A análise dos dados demonstra que o uso das TICs na educação profissional exerce um papel importante na aprendizagem e na relação pedagógica.

O processo de contínua atualização de tecnologias, processos e produtos, tem colocado a inovação no centro das discussões de diferentes instituições. Uma vez que a necessidade de se manter competitiva, e para além disso, estar na vanguarda dessas modificações, se tornou algo necessário para a sobrevivência das organizações, o processo de renovação dos portfólios de projetos, bem como o gerenciamento desses é fundamental para trilhar o caminho rumo a inovação. Diversas metodologias estão disponíveis para promover a geração de ideias e potencializar os processos já em curso. Dentre essas, o Mapa de Rotas Tecnológicas (MRT) se mostra uma importante ferramenta para a coleta de ideias, auxiliando tanto no processo de formulação estratégica, quanto na definição das ações relativas ao planejamento de novos produtos, processos e tecnologias. A utilização da metodologia do MRT permitiu a uma empresa do segmento metalmecânico delinear seu portfólio de projetos a partir do levantamento e priorização de ideias de forma colaborativa. Assim, o processo de estampagem a quente foi considerado no ano de 2019 como um processo alinhado ao direcionamento estratégico da empresa, sendo priorizado e incorporado ao portfólio de projetos. A partir da utilização de corpos de prova com o aço para estampagem a quente 22MnB5 com 8,00 mm de espessura, por meio da análise de taxa de resfriamento, microestrutura e microdureza foi possível verificar comportamento mecânico e metalúrgico satisfatórios, possibilitando a utilização do aço para estruturas de veículos rodoviários comerciais

The pandemic represented a challenge for hospital managers at different levels, required to reorganise services without compromising care. This study aimed to analyse the experiences of hospital managers during the COVID-19 pandemic. A narrative inquiry was conducted in a multisite acute hospital. Data were collected through narratives and open-ended questions. Direct and non-direct-care managers were invited to participate. Data were analyzed considering Clandinin & Connelly’s (2000) framework and Braun & Clarke, (2006). Thirty-six narratives and open-ended question responses were analysed. Participants were nurses (n = 20), doctors, technicians, administrative and hospitality service managers. Themes were grouped into three narrative dimensions: (1) personal—“the emergency engulfed us”, (2) practical/professional—“managing the pandemic”, (3) social—“the strength of the team and people”. Different narrative threads were identified between direct-care and non direct-care managers. Problems faced, factors helpful for management and suggestions for improvement were also reported. The pandemic had an important impact on managers and their roles, in terms of the need for clear concise information, staff support, and adequate professional and technical resources. A sense of unity and belonging facilitated management.

The COVID-19 pandemic heavily impacted nursing care. This study aimed to understand which nursing interventions were instrumental in responding to COVID-19 patients’ needs by exploring the experiences of patients and nurses. In this mixed-method study with an explanatory sequential design, we involved nurses caring for COVID-19 patients in intensive and sub-intensive care units and patients. In the first phase, we collected data through a survey that assessed patients’ needs from the perspective of nurses and patients, as well as patient satisfaction. In the second phase, qualitative data were collected through interviews with patients and nurses. In the third phase, we extracted quantitative data from patients’ records. Our sample included 100 nurses, 59 patients, 15 patient records, and 31 interviews (15 patients, 16 nurses). The results from the first phase showed patients and nurses agreed on the most important difficulties: “breathing”, “sleep/rest”, and “communication”. Nursing care was rated positively by 90% of the patients. In the second phase, four themes were identified through the patients’ interviews: “my problems”, “my emotions”, “helpful factors”, and “nursing care”. Five themes were identified through the nurses’ interviews: “the context”, “nurses’ experiences and emotions”, “facilitators and barriers to patient care”, “nursing care”, and “the professional role”. From the third phase, the analysis of the clinical documentation, it was not possible to understand the nursing care model used by the nurses. In conclusion, nurses adopted a reactive-adaptive approach, based on experience/knowledge, pursuing generalized objectives, and adapting their response to the clinical evolution. In difficult contexts, nursing care requires a constant competent technical-relational presence at the patient’s bedside.

ABSTRACT Objective Methodology Results Conclusion Clinical Significance This systematic review aims to understand the limitations and benefits of the guided direct restorative technique, to optimize the final outcomes, considering the evolution from analog to digital, including planning, the diversification of guides, and the different resins employed.A search was conducted in the electronic databases PubMed, Cochrane, and through manual searches, initiated in May 2023 and updated in April 2024. The following search strategy was used: ((injectable composite resin) OR (direct pressed composite)) OR (3D‐guided), utilizing the PICO framework.Initially, 739 articles were retrieved. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 33 studies were considered suitable for data extraction, including 12 in vitro studies and 21 case reports or technique descriptions. The articles focused on comparisons of techniques, flowable, heated, and conventional resins, as well as various technique reports with variations in guides, materials, and planning, potentially aiding clinicians in more effective and safer execution of this restorative technique.The utilization of digital workflows presents greater solutions to the challenges of the guided direct restorative technique. Understanding the properties of the resins used is crucial for the results and should be chosen according to the patient's needs.A guided direct restorative procedure can deliver previously planned dental treatment based on individualized planning. Introduction Literature suggests that patient engagement in healthy lifestyle is of crucial importance in ensuring a more effective management of side effects of cancer therapies and better quality of life for patients. While many studies describe educational interventions to promote healthy lifestyles, few are focused on promoting active patient engagement in this field. This protocol paper outlines a study to determine the feasibility of a complex nurse-led patient education intervention aimed to promote cancer patient engagement in a healthy lifestyle.Method and analysis This is a randomised pilot and feasibility study. Research nurses will recruit 40 adult patients newly diagnosed with cancer. Consenting participants will be randomised to undergo the patient engagement in healthy lifestyle intervention or the control group by means of a four-block randomisation procedure. The intervention will be delivered by a clinical nurse trained in patient engagement strategies. The primary outcome will be a description of study feasibility (recruitment and retention rates, protocol adherence and stakeholder acceptability). Secondary outcomes include changes between and within groups in healthy lifestyle behaviours (ie, increase in healthy diet, smoke cessation or reduction, increase in physical activity), in quality-of-life rates after the intervention, in patient engagement levels, in the perception of the quality of care, in nutritional status; the number of recurrences or the onset of new cancer diagnosis; the number of hospitalization.Ethics and dissemination The study protocol has been approved by the Canton Ticino Ethical Committee (Protocol ID: 2020-02477 TI). The results will be published in peer-reviewed journals and will be presented at national and international congresses. Finally, patients’ organisations, such as the Swiss Cancer League, will be involved in the dissemination process. This study will inform the decision to proceed with a randomised controlled trial to assess the effect of this intervention.

Em fevereiro de 2020, a Organização Mundial da Saúde alertou sobre a gravidade da epidemia de Covid-19 e enfatizou que as iniciativas relacionadas ao seu combate têm sido acompanhadas por uma infodemia. O Ministério da Saúde do Brasil publicou diretrizes em relação ao manejo da doença com o “tratamento precoce”. O objetivo deste artigo foi construir uma linha do tempo visual de janeiro de 2020 até abril de 2021 por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e análise de conteúdo. Sistematizaram-se as principais notícias veiculadas no website do Ministério da Saúde sobre o “tratamento precoce”, as evidências científicas sobre os medicamentos relacionados a este e os dados das mortes e fatos relacionados à doença que aconteceram no Brasil. A linha do tempo evidencia a insistência da promoção do “tratamento precoce”, no contexto da desinfodemia, pelo Ministério da Saúde na existência de evidências contrárias a essa intervenção.

Abstract Background Fatigue is a complex and frequent symptom in cancer patients, influencing their quality of life, but it is still underestimated and undertreated in clinical practice. The aims of this study were to detect the presence of fatigue in cancer patients, describe how patients and nurses perceived it and how nurses managed fatigue. Methods This is a mixed methods study. Data were collected in two oncological wards using the Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI), an ad hoc questionnaire, patient interviews, focus groups with nurses and the review of nursing records. Interviews and focus groups were analysed through thematic analysis. We used SPSS 22.0 for quantitative data and Nvivo 10 for qualitative data analysis. Results A total of 71 questionnaires were analysed (39 males, mean age 65.7 years). Fatigue was reported 5 times (7%) in nursing records, while in 17 cases (23.9%) problems associated to it were reported. Twelve patients were interviewed. Five themes were identified: feeling powerless and aggressive, my strategies or what helps me, feeling reassured by the presence of family members, feeling reassured by nurses’ gestures, and being informed. Three themes were identified through the focus groups: objectivity and subjectivity in the assessment of fatigue, nurses’ contribution to the multidisciplinary management of fatigue, and difficulty in evaluating outcomes. Conclusions The approach to the management of fatigue was unstructured. Patients were satisfied with the care they received but needed more information and specific interventions. Useful aspects were identified that could be used to change health professionals’ approach towards the management of fatigue.
