Search

CompOSE (CompStar Online Supernovae Equations of State) is an online repository of equations of state (EoS) for use in nuclear physics and astrophysics, e.g., in the description of compact stars or the simulation of core-collapse supernovae and neutron-star mergers, see http://compose.obspm.fr. The main services, offered via the website, are: a collection of data tables in a flexible and easily extendable data format for different EoS types and related physical quantities with extensive documentation and referencing; software for download to extract and to interpolate these data and to calculate additional quantities; webtools to generate EoS tables that are customized to the needs of the users and to illustrate dependencies of various EoS quantities in graphical form. This manual is an update of previous versions that are available on the CompOSE website, at arXiv:1307.5715 [astro-ph.SR], and that was originally published in the journal "Physics of Particles and Nuclei" with doi:10.1134/S1063779615040061. It contains a detailed description of the service, containing a general introduction as well as instructions for potential contributors and for users. Astroparticle physics is undergoing a profound transformation, due to a series of extraordinary new results, such as the discovery of high-energy cosmic neutrinos with IceCube, the direct detection of gravitational waves with LIGO and Virgo, and many others. This white paper is the result of a collaborative effort that involved hundreds of theoretical astroparticle physicists and cosmologists, under the coordination of the European Consortium for Astroparticle Theory (EuCAPT). We study the behaviour of the $\chi_{c1}(3872)$, also known as $X(3872)$, in dense nuclear matter. We begin from a picture in vacuum of the $X(3872)$ as a purely molecular $(D \bar D^*-c.c.)$ state, generated as a bound state from a heavy-quark symmetry leading-order interaction between the charmed mesons, and analyze the $D \bar D^*$ scattering $T-$matrix ($T_{D \bar D^*}$) inside of the medium. Next, we consider also mixed-molecular scenarios and, in all cases, we determine the corresponding $X(3872)$ spectral function and the $D \bar D^*$ amplitude, with the mesons embedded in the dense environment. We find important nuclear corrections for $T_{D \bar D^*}$ and the pole position of the resonance, and discuss the dependence of these results on the $D \bar D^*$ molecular component in the $X(3872)$ wave-function. These predictions could be tested in the finite-density regime that can be accessed in the future CBM and PANDA experiments at FAIR.

Recently five $\Omega_c$ excited states have been reported by the LHCb Collaboration, four of them corroborated by Belle. The Belle Collaboration has also discovered in 2017 one excited $\Xi_c$ with mass of 2930 MeV. In view of these recent detections, we analyze the possible molecular description of these states, using a unitarized baryon-meson model that incorporates both chiral and heavy-quark spin symmetries in a consistent manner. We pay a special attention to the renormalization procedure, so as to determine the robustness of our predictions. Within our model, we generate dynamically several $\Omega_c$ and $\Xi_c$ states. We find that, at least, three of our $\Omega_c$ states can be identified with the experimental ones and have spin-parity $J=1/2^-$ or $J=3/2^-$. Moreover, we find a plausible molecular description of not only the $\Xi_c(2930)$ state, but also $\Xi_c(2790)$, $\Xi_c(2815)$ and $\Xi_c(2970)$, reported in the PDG. Interestingly, we determine that $\Xi_c(2930)$ and $\Xi_c(2970)$ are heavy-quark spin partners with $J=1/2^-$ and $J=3/2^-$, respectively, while obtaining that $\Xi_c(2930)$, $\Omega_c(3090)$ or the $\Omega_c(3119)$, and $\Sigma_c(2800)$ would belong to the same SU(3) multiplet., Comment: 6 pages, contribution to the proceedings of the XVIII International Conference on Hadron Spectroscopy and Structure (HADRON2019), Guilin, China, 16-21 August 2019

We study odd parity $J=1/2$ and $J=3/2$ $\Xi_c$ resonances using a unitarized coupled-channel framework based on a ${\rm SU(6)}_{\rm lsf}\times$HQSS-extended Weinberg-Tomozawa baryon-meson interaction, while paying a special attention to the renormalization procedure. We predict a large molecular $\Lambda_c \bar K$ component for the $\Xi_c(2790)$ with a dominant $0^-$ light-degree-of-freedom spin configuration. We discuss the differences between the $3/2^-$ $\Lambda_c(2625)$ and $\Xi_c(2815)$ states, and conclude that they cannot be SU(3) siblings, whereas we predict the existence of other $\Xi_c-$states, two of them related to the two-pole structure of the $\Lambda_c(2595)$. It is of particular interest a pair of $J=1/2$ and $J=3/2$ poles, which form a HQSS doublet and that we tentatively assign to the $\Xi_c(2930)$ and $\Xi_c(2970)$, respectively. Within this picture, the $\Xi_c(2930)$ would be part of a SU(3) sextet, containing either the $\Omega_c(3090)$ or the $\Omega_c(3119)$, and that would be completed by the $\Sigma_c(2800)$. Moreover, we identify a $J=1/2$ sextet with the $\Xi_b(6227)$ state and the recently discovered $\Sigma_b(6097)$. Assuming the equal spacing rule and to complete this multiplet, we predict the existence of a $J=1/2$ $\Omega_b$ odd parity state, with a mass of 6360 MeV and that should be seen in the $\Xi_b \bar K$ channel., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, 4 tables

We have reviewed the renormalization procedure used in the unitarized coupled-channel model of Phys. Rev. D85 114032 (2012), and its impact in the $C=1$, $S=-2$, and $I=0$ sector, where five $\Omega_c^{(*)}$ states have been recently observed by the LHCb Collaboration. The meson-baryon interactions used in the model are consistent with both chiral and heavy-quark spin symmetries and lead to a successful description of the observed lowest-lying odd parity resonances $\Lambda_c(2595)$ and $\Lambda_c(2625)$, and $\Lambda_b(5912)$ and $\Lambda_b(5920)$ resonances. We show that some (probably at least three) of the states observed by LHCb will also have odd parity and spins $J=1/2$ and $J=3/2$, belonging two of them to the same ${\rm SU(6)}_{\rm light-spin-flavor}\times$HQSS multiplets that the latter strangenessless heavy$-\Lambda$ baryons., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 6 tables, published in The European Physical Journal C

Open and hidden heavy-flavor physics in high-energy nuclear collisions are entering a new and exciting stage towards reaching a clearer understanding of the new experimental results with the possibility to link them directly to the advancement in lattice Quantum Chromo-dynamics (QCD). Recent results from experiments and theoretical developments regarding open and hidden heavy-flavor dynamics have been debated at the Lorentz Workshop "Tomography of the quark-gluon plasma with heavy quarks}, which was held in October 2016 in Leiden, the Netherlands. We investigate the structure and formation of charmed meson--nucleus systems, with the aim of understanding the charmed meson--nucleon interactions and the properties of the charmed mesons in the nuclear medium. The $\bar{D}$ mesic nuclei are of special interest, since they have tiny decay widths due to the absence of strong decays for the $\bar{D} N$ pair. Employing an effective model for the $\bar{D} N$ and $D N$ interactions and solving the Klein--Gordon equation for $\bar{D}$ and $D$ in finite nuclei, we find that the $D^{-}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}$ system has $1 s$ and $2p$ mesic nuclear states and that the $D^{0}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}$ system binds in a $1s$ state. In view of the forthcoming experiments by the PANDA and CBM Collaborations at the future FAIR facility and the J-PARC upgrade, we calculate the formation spectra of the $[D^{-}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}]$ and $[D^{0}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}]$ mesic nuclei for an antiproton beam on a ${}^{12} \rm{C}$ target. Our results suggest that it is possible to observe the $2 p$ $D^{-}$ mesic nuclear state with an appropriate experimental setup., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

We study charm production in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions by using the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach. The initial charm quarks are produced by the PYTHIA event generator tuned to fit the transverse momentum spectrum and rapidity distribution of charm quarks from Fixed-Order Next-to-Leading Logarithm (FONLL) calculations. The produced charm quarks scatter in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) with the off-shell partons whose masses and widths are given by the Dynamical Quasi-Particle Model (DQPM), which reproduces the lattice QCD equation-of-state in thermal equilibrium. The relevant cross sections are calculated in a consistent way by employing the effective propagators and couplings from the DQPM. Close to the critical energy density of the phase transition, the charm quarks are hadronized into $D$ mesons through coalescence and/or fragmentation. The hadronized $D$ mesons then interact with the various hadrons in the hadronic phase with cross sections calculated in an effective lagrangian approach with heavy-quark spin symmetry. The nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ and the elliptic flow $v_2$ of $D^0$ mesons from PHSD are compared with the experimental data from the STAR Collaboration for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ =200 GeV and to the ALICE data for Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ =2.76 TeV. We find that in the PHSD the energy loss of $D$ mesons at high $p_T$ can be dominantly attributed to partonic scattering while the actual shape of $R_{AA}$ versus $p_T$ reflects the heavy-quark hadronization scenario, i.e. coalescence versus fragmentation. We study the dependence on the quark mass of the compositeness of the lowest-lying odd parity hyperon states. Thus, we pay attention to $\Lambda-$like states in the strange, charm and beauty, sectors which are dynamically generated using a unitarized meson-baryon model. In the strange sector we use an SU(6) extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa meson-baryon interaction, and we further implement the heavy-quark spin symmetry to construct the meson-baryon interaction when charmed or beauty hadrons are involved. In the three examined flavor sectors, we obtain two $J^P=1/2^-$ and one $J^P=3/2^-$ $\Lambda$ states. We find that the $\Lambda$ states which are bound states (the three $\Lambda_b$) or narrow resonances (one $\Lambda(1405)$ and one $\Lambda_c(2595)$) are well described as molecular states composed of $s$-wave meson-baryon pairs. The $\frac{1}{2}^-$ wide $\Lambda(1405)$ and $\Lambda_c(2595)$ as well as the $\frac{3}{2}^-$ $\Lambda(1520)$ and $\Lambda_c(2625)$ states display smaller compositeness and so they would require new mechanisms, such as $d$-wave interactions., Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures, 5 tables

The Large Observatory For x-ray Timing (LOFT) was studied within ESA M3 Cosmic Vision framework and participated in the final down-selection for a launch slot in 2022-2024. Thanks to the unprecedented combination of effective area and spectral resolution of its main instrument, LOFT will study the behaviour of matter under extreme conditions, such as the strong gravitational field in the innermost regions of accretion flows close to black holes and neutron stars, and the supra-nuclear densities in the interior of neutron stars. The science payload is based on a Large Area Detector (LAD, 10 m 2 effective area, 2-30 keV, 240 eV spectral resolution, 1 deg collimated field of view) and a WideField Monitor (WFM, 2-50 keV, 4 steradian field of view, 1 arcmin source location accuracy, 300 eV spectral resolution). The WFM is equipped with an on-board system for bright events (e.g. GRB) localization. The trigger time and position of these events are broadcast to the ground within 30 s from discovery. We study the strangeness $+1$ meson-baryon systems to obtain improved $KN$ and $K^*N$ amplitudes and to look for a possible resonance formation by the $KN$-$K^*N$ coupled interaction. We obtain amplitudes for light vector meson-baryon systems by implementing the $s$-, $t$-, $u$- channel diagrams and a contact interaction. The pseudoscalar meson-baryon interactions are obtained by relying on the Weinberg-Tomozawa theorem. The transition amplitudes between the systems consisting of pseudoscalars and vector mesons are calculated by extending the Kroll-Ruderman term for pion photoproduction replacing the photon by a vector meson. We fix the subtraction constants required to calculate the loops by fitting our $KN$ amplitudes to the data available for the isospin 0 and 1 $s$-wave phase shifts. We provide the scattering lengths and the total cross sections for the $KN$ and $K^* N$ systems obtained in our model, which can be useful in future in-medium calculations. We study odd-parity baryonic resonances with one heavy and three light flavors, dynamically generated by meson-baryon interactions. Special attention is paid to Heavy Quark Spin Symmetry (HQSS), hence pseudoscalar and vector mesons and baryons with J^P = 1/2+ and 3/2+ are considered as constituent hadrons. For the hidden-charm sector (N-c-quarks = N-c-antiquarks = 1), the meson-baryon Lagrangian with Heavy Flavor Symmetry is constructed by a minimal extension of the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa (WT) Lagrangian to fulfill HQSS, such that not new parameters are needed. This interaction can be presented in different formal ways: as a Field Lagrangian, as Hadron creation-annihilation operators, as SU(6)xHQSS group projectors and as multichannel matrices. The multichannel Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved for odd-parity light baryons, hidden-charm N and Delta and Beauty Baryons (Lambda-b). We evaluate the width of the $\omega$ meson in nuclear matter. We consider the free decay mode of the $\omega$ into three pions, which is dominated by $\rho \pi$ decay, and replace the $\rho$ and $\pi$ propagators by their medium modified ones. We also take into account the quasielastic and inelastic processes induced by a vector-baryon interaction dominated by vector meson exchange, as well as the contributions coming from the $\omega \to K \bar K$ mechanism with medium modified $K$, $\bar K$ propagators. We obtain a substantial increase of the $\omega$ width in the medium, reaching a value of $129 \pm 10$ MeV at normal nuclear matter density for an $\omega$ at rest, which comes mainly from $\omega N \to \pi \pi N, \omega N N \to \pi NN$ processes associated to the dominant $\omega \to \rho\pi$ decay mode. We study baryon resonances with heavy flavor in a molecular approach, thus as dynamically generated by baryon-meson scattering. This is accomplished by using a unitary coupled-channel model taking, as bare interaction, the extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa SU(3) Lagrangian. A special attention is payed to the inclusion of heavy-quark spin symmetry and to the study of the generated baryon resonances that complete the heavy-quark spin multiplets. Our model reproduces the \Lambda_b(5912) and \Lambda_b(5920) baryons, which were recently observed by the LHCb collaboration. According to our analysis, these two states are heavy-quark spin symmetric partners. We develop a model to describe odd parity baryon resonances generated dynamically through a unitary baryon-meson coupled-channels approach. The scheme applies to channels with light and/or heavy quark content. Distinct features of the model are that, i) the interaction is an S-wave contact one, ii) it reduces to the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa Hamiltonian when light pseudoscalar mesons are involved, thus, respecting chiral symmetry, iii) spin-flavor in preserved in the light quark sector, and iv) heavy quark spin symmetry is fulfilled in the heavy quark sector. In particular, baryon-meson states with different content in c or in c-bar do not mix. The model is a minimal one and it contains no free parameters. In this work, we focus on baryon resonances with hidden-charm (at least one c-bar and one c quarks). We analyze several possible sectors and, for the sector with zero net charm, we write down the most general Lagrangian consistent with SU(3) and heavy quark spin symmetry. We explicitly study the N and Delta states, which are produced from the S-wave interaction of pseudoscalar and vector mesons with 1/2+ and 3/2+ baryons within the charmless and strangeless hidden charm sector. We predict seven odd parity N-like and five Delta-like states with masses around 4 GeV, most of them as bound states. These states form heavy-quark spin multiplets, which are almost degenerate in mass. The predicted new resonances definitely cannot be accommodated by quark models with three constituent quarks and they might be looked for in the forthcoming PANDA experiment at the future FAIR facility., Comment: 31 pages, 3 figures

We study the implications on compact star properties of a soft nuclear equation of state determined from kaon production at subthreshold energies in heavy-ion collisions. On one hand, we apply these results to study radii and moments of inertia of light neutron stars. Heavy-ion data provides constraints on nuclear matter at densities relevant for those stars and, in particular, to the density dependence of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter. On the other hand, we derive a limit for the highest allowed neutron star mass of three solar masses. The LHCb Collaboration has recently observed two narrow baryon resonances with beauty. Their masses and decay modes look consistent with the quark model orbitally excited states Lambda_b(5912) and Lambda*_b(5920), with quantum numbers J^P=1/2^- and 3/2^-, respectively. We predict the existence of these states within a unitarized meson-baryon coupled-channel dynamical model, which implements heavy-quark spin symmetry. Masses, quantum numbers and couplings of these resonances to the different meson-baryon channels are obtained. We find that the resonances Lambda^0_b(5912) and Lambda^0_b(5920) are heavy-quark spin symmetry partners, which naturally explains their approximate mass degeneracy. Corresponding bottom-strange baryon resonances are predicted at Xi_b(6035.4) (J^P=1/2^-) and Xi_b(6043.3) (J^P=3/2^-). After some short introductory remarks on particular issues on the vector mesons in nuclei, in this paper we present a short review of recent developments concerning the interaction of vector mesons with baryons and with nuclei from a modern perspective using the local hidden gauge formalism for the interaction of vector mesons. We present results for the vector baryon interaction and in particular for the resonances which appear as composite states, dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons, taking also the mixing of these states with pseudoscalars and baryons into account. We then venture into the charm sector, reporting on hidden charm baryon states around 4400 MeV, generated from the interaction of vector mesons and baryons with charm, which have a strong repercussion on the properties of the $J/\Psi N$ interaction. We also address the interaction of $K^*$ with nuclei and make suggestions to measure the predicted huge width in the medium by means of the transparency ratio. The formalism is extended to study the phenomenon of $J/\psi$ suppression in nuclei via $J/\psi$ photoproduction reactions., Comment: Short review paper, (18 pages)

We study the properties of charmed pseudoscalar and vector mesons in dense matter within a unitary meson-baryon coupled-channel model which incorporates heavy-quark spin symmetry. The LOFT mission concept is one of four candidates selected by ESA for the M3 launch opportunity as Medium Size missions of the Cosmic Vision programme. The launch window is currently planned for between 2022 and 2024. LOFT is designed to exploit the diagnostics of rapid X-ray flux and spectral variability that directly probe the motion of matter down to distances very close to black holes and neutron stars, as well as the physical state of ultra-dense matter. These primary science goals will be addressed by a payload composed of a Large Area Detector (LAD) and a Wide Field Monitor (WFM). The LAD is a collimated (<1 degree field of view) experiment operating in the energy range 2-50 keV, with a 10 m^2 peak effective area and an energy resolution of 260 eV at 6 keV. The WFM will operate in the same energy range as the LAD, enabling simultaneous monitoring of a few-steradian wide field of view, with an angular resolution of <5 arcmin. The LAD and WFM experiments will allow us to investigate variability from submillisecond QPO's to year-long transient outbursts. We study charmed and strange baryon resonances that are generated dynamically within a unitary meson-baryon coupled-channel model which incorporates heavy-quark spin symmetry. In this talk we present a short review of recent developments concerning the interaction of vector mesons with baryons and with nuclei. We begin with the hidden gauge formalism for the interaction of vector mesons, then review results for vector baryon interaction and in particular the resonances which appear as composite states, dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons. New developments concerning the mixing of these states with pseudoscalars and baryons are also reported. We include some discussion on the $5/2^+$ $\Delta$ resonances around 2000 MeV, where we suggest that the $\Delta(2000)5/2^+$ resonance, which comes in the PDG from averaging a set of resonances appearing around 1700 MeV and another one around 2200 MeV, corresponds indeed to two distinct resonances. We also report on a hidden charm baryon state around 4400 MeV coming from the interaction of vector mesons and baryons with charm, and how this state has some repercussion in the $J/\psi$ suppression in nuclei. The interaction of $K^*$ in nuclei is also reported and suggestions are made to measure by means of the transparency ratio the huge width in the medium that the theoretical calculations predict. We study charmed and strange baryon resonances that are generated dynamically by a unitary baryon-meson coupled-channel model which incorporates heavy-quark spin symmetry. This is accomplished by extending the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa chiral Lagrangian to SU(8) spin-flavor symmetry plus a suitable symmetry breaking. The model produces resonances with negative parity from s-wave interaction of pseudoscalar and vector mesons with $1/2^+$ and $3/2^+$ baryons. Resonances in all the isospin, spin, and strange sectors with one, two, and three charm units are studied. Our results are compared with experimental data from several facilities, such as the CLEO, Belle or BaBar Collaborations, as well as with other theoretical models. Some of our dynamically generated states can be readily assigned to resonances found experimentally, while others do not have a straightforward identification and require the compilation of more data and also a refinement of the model. In particular, we identify the $\Xi_c(2790)$ and $\Xi_c(2815)$ resonances as possible candidates for a heavy-quark spin symmetry doublet., Comment: 31 pages, 17 figures, 25 tables

The anti-D meson self-energy is evaluated self-consistently, using unitarized coupled-channel theory, by computing the in-medium meson-baryon T-matrix in the C=-1,S=0 sector. The heavy pseudo-scalar and heavy vector mesons, anti-D and anti-D^*, are treated on equal footing as required by heavy quark spin symmetry. Results for energy levels and widths of D^- mesic atoms in 12C, 40Ca, 118Sn and 208Pb are presented. The spectrum contains states of atomic and of nuclear types for all nuclei. anti-D^0--nucleus bound states are also obtained. We find that, after electromagnetic and nuclear cascade, these systems end up with the anti-D bound in the nucleus, either as a meson or as part of a exotic anti-D N (pentaquark) loosely bound state., Comment: 22 pages, 4 figures, 5 tables

The $\bar K^*$ meson in dense matter is analyzed by means of a unitary approach in coupled channels based on the local hidden gauge formalism. The $\bar K^*$ self-energy and the corresponding $\bar K^*$ spectral function in the nuclear medium are obtained. We observe that the $\bar K^*$ develops a width in matter up to five times bigger than in free space. We also estimate the transparency ratio of the $\gamma A \to K^+ K^{*-} A^\prime$ reaction. The $DN$ interaction is studied in close analogy to the meson-exchange $\bar KN$ potential of the Juelich group using SU(4) symmetry constraints. The model generates the $\Lambda_c$(2595) resonance dynamically as a $DN$ quasi-bound state. Results for $DN$ scattering lengths and cross sections are presented and compared with predictions based on the Weinberg-Tomozawa term. The properties of open charm mesons, $D$, $\bar D$, $D_s$ and $\bar D_s$ in nuclear matter at finite temperature are studied within a self-consistent coupled-channel approach. The interaction of the low lying pseudoscalar mesons with the ground state baryons in the charm sector is derived from a $t$-channel vector-exchange model. The in-medium scattering amplitudes are obtained by solving the Lippmann-Schwinger equation at finite temperature including Pauli blocking effects, as well as $D$, $\bar D$, $D_s$ and $\bar D_s$ self-energies taking their mutual influence into account. We find that the in-medium properties of the $D$ meson are affected by the $D_s$-meson self-energy through the intermediate $D_s Y$ loops coupled to $DN$ states. Similarly, dressing the $\bar{D}$ meson in the $\bar{D}Y$ loops has an influence over the properties of the $\bar{D}_s$ meson., Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables

In this talk we report on selected topics on hadrons in nuclei. The first topic is the renormalization of the width of the $\Lambda(1520)$ in a nuclear medium. This is followed by a short update of the situation of the $\omega$ in the medium. The investigation of the properties of $\bar{K}$ in the nuclear medium from the study of the $(K_{flight},p)$ reaction is also addressed, as well as properties of X,Y,Z charmed and hidden charm resonances in a nuclear medium. We follow a model based on the SU(8) symmetry for the interaction of mesons with baryons. The model treats on an equal footing the pseudo-scalars and the vector mesons, as required by heavy quark symmetry. A model of the DN interaction is presented which is developed in close analogy to the meson-exchange KbarN potential of the Juelich group utilizing SU(4) symmetry constraints. The main ingredients of the interaction are provided by vector meson (rho, omega) exchange and higher-order box diagrams involving D*N, D\Delta, and D*\Delta intermediate states. The coupling of DN to the pi-Lambda_c and pi-Sigma_c channels is taken into account. The interaction model generates the Lambda_c(2595) resonance dynamically as a DN quasi-bound state. Results for DN total and differential cross sections are presented and compared with predictions of an interaction model that is based on the leading-order Weinberg-Tomozawa term. Some features of the Lambda_c(2595) resonance are discussed and the role of the near-by pi-Sigma_c threshold is emphasized. Selected predictions of the orginal KbarN model are reported too. Specifically, it is pointed out that the model generates two poles in the partial wave corresponding to the Lambda(1405) resonance., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures

We obtain the $K$, $\bar K$ and $\bar K^*$ (off-shell) spectral functions in the nuclear medium and study their behaviour at finite density, temperature and momentum. We also analyze the energy weighted sum rules of the kaon propagator as a quality test of model calculations. We study the properties of $\bar K^*$ mesons in nuclear matter using a unitary approach in coupled channels within the framework of the local hidden gauge formalism and incorporating the $\bar K \pi$ decay channel in matter. The in-medium $\bar K^* N$ interaction accounts for Pauli blocking effects and incorporates the $\bar K^*$ self-energy in a self-consistent manner. We also obtain the $\bar K^*$ (off-shell) spectral function and analyze its behaviour at finite density and momentum. At normal nuclear matter density, the $\bar K^*$ meson feels a moderately attractive potential while the $\bar K^*$ width becomes five times larger than in free space. We estimate the transparency ratio of the $\gamma A \to K^+ K^{* -} A^\prime$ reaction, which we propose as a feasible scenario at present facilities to detect the changes of the properties of the $\bar K^*$ meson in the nuclear medium., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures, one new section added, version published in Phys. The energies and widths of several D^0 meson bound states for different nuclei are obtained using a D-meson selfenergy in the nuclear medium, which is evaluated in a selfconsistent manner using techniques of unitarized coupled-channel theory. The kernel of the meson-baryon interaction is based on a model that treats heavy pseudoscalar and heavy vector mesons on equal footing, as required by heavy quark symmetry. We find D^0 bound states in all studied nuclei, from 12C up to 208Pb. The inclusion of vector mesons is the keystone for obtaining an attractive D-nucleus interaction that leads to the existence of D^0-nucleus bound states, as compared to previous studies based on SU(4) flavor symmetry. In some cases, the half widths are smaller than the separation of the levels, what makes possible their experimental observation by means of a nuclear reaction. This can be of particular interest for the future PANDA@FAIR physics program. We also find a D^+ bound state in 12C, but it is too broad and will have a significant overlap with the energies of the continuum., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables

We study the properties of $D$ and $D^*$ mesons in nuclear matter within a simultaneous self-consistent coupled-channel unitary approach that implements heavy-quark symmetry. The in-medium solution accounts for Pauli blocking effects, and for the $D$ and $D^*$ self-energies in a self-consistent manner. We pay a special attention to the renormalization of the intermediate propagators in the medium beyond the usual cutoff scheme. We analyze the behavior in the nuclear medium of the rich spectrum of dynamically-generated baryonic resonances in the C=1 and S=0 sector, and their influence in the self-energy and, hence, the spectral function of the $D$ and $D^*$ mesons. The $D$ meson quasiparticle peak mixes with $\Sigma_c(2823)N^{-1}$ and $\Sigma_c(2868)N^{-1}$ states while the $\Lambda_c(2595)N^{-1}$ mode is present in the low-energy tail of the spectral function. The $D^*$ spectral function incorporates $J=3/2$ resonances, and $\Sigma_c(2902)N^{-1}$ and $\Lambda_c(2941)N^{-1}$ fully determine the behavior of $D^*$ meson spectral function at the quasiparticle peak. As density increases, these resonant-hole modes tend to smear out and the spectral functions get broad. We also obtain the $D$ and $D^*$ scattering lengths, and optical potentials for different density regimes. The $D$ meson potential stays attractive while the $D^*$ meson one is repulsive with increasing densities up to twice that of the normal nuclear matter. Compared to previous in-medium SU(4) models, we obtain similar values for the real part of the $D$ meson potential but much smaller imaginary parts. Charmed mesons in hot and dense matter are studied within a self-consistent coupled-channel approach for the experimental conditions of density and temperature expected at the CBM experiment at FAIR/GSI. The $D$ meson spectral function broadens with increasing density with an extended tail towards lower energies due to $\Lambda_c(2593) N^{-1}$ and $\Sigma_c(2800) N^{-1}$ excitations. The in-medium $\bar D$ meson mass increases with density. We study energy weighted sum rules of the pion and kaon propagator in nuclear matter at finite temperature. The sum rules are obtained from matching the Dyson form of the meson propagator with its spectral Lehmann representation at low and high energies. We calculate the sum rules for specific models of the kaon and pion self-energy. The in-medium spectral densities of the K and anti-K mesons are obtained from a chiral unitary approach in coupled channels which incorporates the S- and P-waves of the kaon-nucleon interaction. The pion self-energy is determined from the P-wave coupling to particle-hole and Delta-hole excitations, modified by short range correlations. The sum rules for the lower energy weights are fulfilled satisfactorily and reflect the contributions from the different quasi-particle and collective modes of the meson spectral function. We study charmed baryon resonances which are generated dynamically within a unitary meson-baryon coupled channel model that treats the heavy pseudoscalar and vector mesons on equal footing as required by heavy-quark symmetry. It is an extension of recent SU(4) models with t-channel vector meson exchanges to a SU(8) spin-flavor scheme, but differs considerably from the SU(4) approach in how the strong breaking of the flavor symmetry is implemented. Some of our dynamically generated states can be readily assigned to recently observed baryon resonances, while others do not have a straightforward identification and require the compilation of more data as well as an extension of the model to d-wave meson-baryon interactions and p-wave coupling in the neglected s- and u-channel diagrams. Of several novelties, we find that the Lambda_c(2595), which emerged as a ND quasi-bound state within the SU(4) approaches, becomes predominantly a ND* quasi-bound state in the present SU(8) scheme., Comment: 37 pages, 7 figures. We study the properties of $K$ and $\bar K$ mesons in nuclear matter at finite temperature from a chiral unitary approach in coupled channels which incorporates the $s$- and p-waves of the kaon-nucleon interaction. The in-medium solution accounts for Pauli blocking effects, mean-field binding on all the baryons involved, and $\pi$ and kaon self-energies. We calculate $K$ and $\bar K$ (off-shell) spectral functions and single particle properties. The $\bar K$ effective mass gets lowered by about -50 MeV in cold nuclear matter at saturation density and by half this reduction at T=100 MeV. The p-wave contribution to the ${\bar K}$ optical potential, due to $\Lambda$, $\Sigma$ and $\Sigma^*$ excitations, becomes significant for momenta larger than 200 MeV/c and reduces the attraction felt by the $\bar K$ in the nuclear medium.The $\bar K$ spectral function spreads over a wide range of energies, reflecting the melting of the $\Lambda (1405)$ resonance and the contribution of $YN^{-1}$ components at finite temperature. In the $KN$ sector, we find that the low-density theorem is a good approximation for the $K$ self-energy close to saturation density due to the absence of resonance-hole excitations. The $K$ potential shows a moderate repulsive behavior, whereas the quasi-particle peak is considerably broadened with increasing density and temperature. We discuss the implications for the decay of the $\phi$ meson at SIS/GSI energies as well as in the future FAIR/GSI project., Comment: 35 pages, 10 figures, 1 table

We study the renormalization of the properties of low lying charm and hidden charm scalar mesons in a nuclear medium, concretely of the D_{s0}(2317) and the theoretical hidden charm state X(3700). We find that for the D_{s0}(2317), with negligible width at zero density, the width becomes about 100 MeV at normal nuclear matter density, while in the case of the X(3700) the width becomes as large as 200 MeV. We discuss the origin of this new width and trace it to reactions occurring in the nucleus, while offering a guideline for future experiments testing these changes. We also show how those medium modifications will bring valuable information on the nature of the scalar resonances and the mechanisms of the interaction of D mesons with nucleons and nuclei.
