The article discusses on the state of book publishing in Ireland. It discusses on the events that contributed to the decline of publishing such as the 1929 literary censorship following the revolution in Ireland's south and ultra-Catholicism. In a 1979 study, there are five major problems that contributed to the industry's current state namely the lack of finance due to small players, fragmentation of marketing effort, lack of state assistance, inadequate size of the domestic market, and migration of major writers to Great Britain. Three options are seen as solution to the problem. These are exporting books in a larger markets such as Britain and the United States, publicly subsidizing Irish works by publishers, and making smart business decisions and strategies on the publishers' part.
