Abstract

Multiple coronaviruses have emerged independently in the past 20 years that cause lethal human diseases. Although vaccine development targeting these viruses has been accelerated substantially, there remain patients requiring treatment who cannot be vaccinated or who experience breakthrough infections. Understanding the common host factors necessary for the life cycles of coronaviruses may reveal conserved therapeutic targets. Here, we used the known substrate specificities of mammalian protein kinases to deconvolute the sequence of phosphorylation events mediated by three host protein kinase families (SRPK, GSK-3, and CK1) that coordinately phosphorylate a cluster of serine and threonine residues in the viral N protein, which is required for viral replication. We also showed that loss or inhibition of SRPK1/2, which we propose initiates the N protein phosphorylation cascade, compromised the viral replication cycle. Because these phosphorylation sites are highly conserved across coronaviruses, inhibitors of these protein kinases not only may have therapeutic potential against COVID-19 but also may be broadly useful against coronavirus-mediated diseases.

Abstract

We study a linear stability of a resting state for flows of incompressible viscoelastic fluid in an infinite cylindrical channel under the influence of an external uniform magnetic field directed parallel to the cylinder axis (we use a generalized rheological Vinogradov–Pokrovski model as mathematical model) in a class of axisymmetric periodic along the axial variable flows. We establish that for some values of the parameters in the case of an absolute conductivity b m = 0 , the magnetic field can substantially lessen the real part of an exponent for perturbations of the radial velocity component, which is the main element of the instability development. For general case b m ≠ 0 , we justify the possibility of removing the instability based on the performed calculations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We study the linear stability of a resting state for a generalization of the basic rheological Pokrovski–Vinogradov model for flows of solutions and melts of an incompressible viscoelastic polymeric medium to the nonisothermal case under the influence of magnetic field. We prove that the corresponding linearized problem describing magnetohydrodynamic flows of polymers in an infinite plane channel has the following property: for certain values of the conduction current which is given on the electrodes, i.e. on the channel boundaries, the problem has solutions whose amplitude grows exponentially (in the class of functions periodic along the channel). Abstract

In data taken with the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS in 1999, 730 candidates of the weak radiative hyperon decay $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$ have been found with an estimated background of $58 \pm 8$ events. From these events the $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$ decay asymmetry has been determined to $\alpha(\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma) = -0.78 \pm 0.18_{stat} \pm 0.06_{syst}$, which is the first evidence of a decay asymmetry in $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$. The branching fraction of the decay has been measured to be $Br(\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma) = (1.16 \pm 0.05_{stat} \pm 0.06_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}$.

Abstract

A search for the decay $K_{S} \to \pi^{0} \gamma\gamma$ has been made using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Using data collected in 1999 during a 40-hour run with a high-intensity $K_{S}$ beam, an upper limit for the branching ratio $BR(K_{S} \to \pi^{0} \gamma\gamma, z \geq 0.2) < 3.3 \times 10^{-7}$ has been obtained at 90% confidence level, where $z = m_{\gamma\gamma}^{2}/m_{K_{0}}^{2}$. Abstract

A search for the decay $K_{S} \to \pi^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$ has been made using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. The decay rate of $K_{S} \to \gamma\gamma$ has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 149 $K_{S} \to \gamma\gamma$ events have been observed. The branching ratio is determined to be $(2.58 \pm 0.36(stat) \pm 0.22(sys)) \times10^{-6}$.

Abstract

The decay rate of the neutral K meson $\mathrm{K_{L} \rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}\gamma}$ has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 6864 events has been observed with an estimated background of 10 events. The branching ratio is $\mathrm{\Gamma(K_{L} \rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}\gamma)/\Gamma(K_{L} rightarrow all) = (1.06 \pm 0.02_{stat.} \pm 0.02_{sys.} \pm 0.04_{calc.})\times 10^{-5}}$. The parameter describing the relative strength of the two contributing amplitudes to this decay through $\mathrm{\alpha_{K^{*}}}$ intermediate seudoscalar or vector mesons, was measured to be $\mathrm{\alpha_{K^{*}} = -0.36 \pm 0.06_{stat.} \pm 0.02_{sys.}}$

Abstract

In a preliminary version of the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS, in which an iron- scintillator sandwich calorimeter was used as a photon detector, the ratio of K$_L \to \pi\mu\nu\gamma$ and K$_L \to \pi\mu\nu$ decays was measured. The branching ratio BR(K$_L \to \pi\mu\nu\gamma, \mbox{E}_\gamma^*\ge30~\mbox{MeV}$)/(K$_L \to \pi\mu\nu$) is found to be $(2.08\pm0.17$ $^{+0.16}_{-0.21})\times10^{-3}$, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The result is in agreement with theoretical predictions.
